THE ROAD SO FAR
(Song:) Carry on My Wayward Son - Kansas
From 5.01 "Sympathy for the Devil", in St. Mary's Convent, the blood pouring out of Lilith had finished its pattern on the floor, almost like a vortex of a door. A brilliant white light flowed from the central point of the pattern. The convent began to tremble. Dean grabbed Catty's jacket. Catty grabbed Sam's shirt. Sam grabbed Catty's arm.
From 5.03 "Free to Be You and Me", in the bar, Reggie tried to punch Sam. Sam ducked, kneeing Reggie in the stomach, making him double over in pain, kicking him in the face, making him fall to the floor.
From 5.15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", in the Singer Salvage Yard, on the ground, Ness grabbed the shotgun, turning toward the Zombie, shooting him in the head, killing him.
From 5.09 "The Real Ghostbusters", in the hotel's library, Sam swung an iron poker through the Ghost boy that was pinning Catty to the wall. Dean swung an iron poker through the Ghost boy that was pinning Ness to the floor. The boys disappeared.
From 5.03 "Free to Be You and Me", in the Vampire barn, Ness elbowed the Vampire in the face, making him let go, rolling him to the ground, straddling him to the ground, raising the blade over her head, stabbing it down into his neck, decapitating him, killing him.
From 5.01 "Sympathy for the Devil", outside of John's Lockup, Dean opened the trunk of the Impala. Dean and Sam loaded guns. Catty took out her knife, putting it into her sleeve, closing the trunk.
From 5.01 "Sympathy for the Devil", in St. Mary's Convent, Octavia turned to watch the white light build and build, shielding her head, disappearing, burning away with the light.
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the warehouse, an Angel appeared behind Castiel, slashing toward him with an Angel Blade. Castiel ducked, spinning to face him, turning the blade to face him, stabbing him in the stomach, killing him with a flash of bright white light, letting him fall to the floor.
From 5.13 "The Song Remains the Same", in the Campbell House, the windows and light bulbs shattered, glass falling everywhere, plunging the room into darkness.
From 5.08 "Changing Channels", in the comedy sit com's motel room, Gabriel/The Trickster looked at Sam, Dean and Catty. "Dean's got to let his little siblings grow up to who they are supposed to become. Sam, starring as Lucifer. Catty, starring as Michael." He grabbed Dean by the collar, turning around, pushing him into the wall. Sam and Catty stepped toward them to stop him. 'Ness' grabbed Sam and Catty, easily keeping them back. Gabriel looked at Sam and Catty. "You're gonna suck it up, accept your responsibilities, and play the roles that destiny has chosen for you." He looked at Dean. "And you're gonna stop keeping them on that tight leash of yours so that they can."
From 5.01 "Sympathy for the Devil", in John's Lockup, Catty glared at Zachariah. "I'm a vessel?"
"You're the vessel," Zachariah told her.
"The answer's no," Catty told him.
From 5.03 "Free to Be You and Me", in Sam's motel room, Octavia morphed into Lucifer. "You know who I am."
"Lucifer," Sam answered.
"You're the one, Sam," Lucifer told him. "You're my vessel."
"That'll never happen," Sam told him.
From 5.15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", in the Singer Salvage Yard, Dean was outside the Singer House, leaning against the Impala.
From 5.03 "Free to Be You and Me", in the bar, Sam turned to face the bar.
From 5.14 "My Bloody Valentine", in the Singer Salvage Yard, Ness seemed to be in pain from seeing Catty's pain like this, wrapping an arm around Catty soothingly, comfortingly. Catty looked away, crying silently, unable to help it, still trying to remain strong.
From 5.02 "Good God, Y'All!", at the mountain rest area, Ness pulled Dean into a long, passionate kiss for a long moment. Dean responded instantly, only slightly surprised.
From 5.04 "The End", in the future, Catty walked around the destroyed city of Kansas City in confusion.
From 5.17 "99 Problems", in Brett's Loft, Brett and Catty stood in front of the window wall that allowed the view of the entire city.
"Things are about to get really bad," Catty told him.
Catty kissed Brett's cheek, letting a tear fall.
Brett: (voice over from 5.17 99 Problems) "Whatever you're thinking of doing, don't do it."
Catty walked away toward the door, walking outside, leaving without another word or look. Brett watched her go in confusion, knowing that there was nothing he could do to stop her.
Catty: (voice over from 5.17 99 Problems) "I have to. It's me or him."
From 5.19 "Hammer of the Gods", roadside, Dean, Catty and Sam were watching the video.
Gabriel: (on video) "The Cage you sprung Lucifer from? You can shove his ass back in. Key to the Cage? Four rings from the Horsemen."
From 5.02 "Good God, Y'All!", on Main Street, Ness took War's right hand, slamming it against Catty's Mustang, cutting off all four of his fingers, making him scream in pain. The ring clinked on the pavement.
From 5.14 "My Bloody Valentine", outside Biggerson's, Famine sat in his wheelchair, having a Horsemen ring on his hand ring finger.
From 5.21 "Two Minutes to Midnight", in the nursing home, Castiel looked at Pestilence's ring in his hand.
From 5.21 "Two Minutes to Midnight", Death stepped out of the car, his face yet unseen, closing the door, wearing his ring.
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the Singer House's Library, Sam, Dean, Catty, Castiel, Octavia, Ness and Bobby were gathered around the window seat, looking at the body there.
"Is that him?" Bobby asked.
Adam was revealed to be the body, covered in mud, still unconscious.
"Yeah," Sam answered. "That's Adam. That's our brother."
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", Zachariah visited Adam in his dream.
Ness: (voice over from 5.18 Point of No Return) "What do you mean, 'Adam is gone'?"
Octavia: (voice over from 5.18 Point of No Return) "The Angels took him."
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the Singer House's Library, Castiel looked at everyone. "So they were really willing to move on from Catty to Adam."
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the warehouse, Catty walked toward Castiel, Ness, Sam and Dean. "You think Adam's okay?"
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the Angelic Green Room, the blindingly bright white light grew even brighter. Adam turned around in confusion.
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the warehouse, Castiel looked at Catty, Ness, Sam and Dean. "Doubt it. Ava, either."
From 5.18 "Point of No Return", in the warehouse, the Angels ran closer to Castiel and Octavia. Instead of stabbing the blade into the Sigil on Octavia's back, Castiel cut his hand, slamming the blood over the Sigil. Light vibrated out of Octavia's body, making the rest of them disappear with a violent flash of bright white light from within her, all except Castiel.
From 5.15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", in the Jones House, Ezra Jones stood, lunging at Sam, slobbering over him. Catty drew her gun instantly, shooting Ezra in the head, killing her, making her fall to the floor.
From 5.03 "Free to Be You and Me", in the cabin, Catty lit her lighter, dropping it onto the circle of Holy Oil Raphael had just walked into. Flame surrounded Raphael, alerting him to the fact that he was now stuck in a circle of Holy Fire.
From 5.21 "Two Minutes to Midnight", in the hospital, Octavia laid in bed. "Why aren't I healing on my own? It's like..."
"Like you're Human," Castiel finished.
From 5.21 "Two Minutes to Midnight", in Nexus, Octavia used her shotgun to hit the Demon in the head, making him fall off of Sam to the floor, sliding over the tile on her knees toward Catty's Knife, throwing it into the Demon's chest, killing him, making him flash with red and fall to the floor, dead. Octavia stood, shooting the Croat that was strangling Ness in the head, killing him.
Ness: (voice over from 5.21 Two Minutes to Midnight) "You're angry and defiant and yet passionate enough to figure this all out, Ava."
From 5.20 "The Devil You Know", in the abandoned house, Brady was tied underneath the Devil's Trap with the burlap sack over his head, speaking it through it. "Ness Singer." Ness crossed her arms over her chest. "Mm, even after Lucifer and Death warned you, used your mother against you, you're jumping back in to help your friends." He chuckled. "So fearless. So brave. So stupid."
Ness rolled her eyes.
From 5.20 "The Devil You Know", in the abandoned house, Ness and Sam were sitting across from each other at the table in front of the fireplace.
"What if you guys lead the Devil to the edge and I jump in?" Sam asked.
Ness stood, looking at Sam in exasperation. "Are you three trying to kill me?"
From 5.20 "The Devil You Know", in Catty's Mustang, Ness was driving. Sam was in the passenger seat.
Ness sighed. "Look, Sammy... if there was even a chance that you could go through with this suicidal plan... the only thing that could help you get control is something that you really care about. That's how I got through to my dad. The only thing that could've gotten through to him..."
"Was you, Ness," Sam finished. "So the only things that could get through to me are Dean and Catty."
Ness shook her head. "But it's so much more than that, Sam. You know, it was the same Demon that tried to make my mom kill me. The same one that made Dad kill Mom. And he was trying to make Dad kill me the same way all these years later."
Sam raised his eyebrows, nodding to himself. "Yeah. Sentimental and monumental moments."
"Exactly," Ness told him. "So please tell me that you have a moment like that that can break you out of your own head. This would be the hardest thing that you would have to do. You're trying to control Satan himself. But how are you gonna control Lucifer when you can't control yourself?"
Sam didn't answer, thinking very seriously about what she had said, looking out of the window.
From 5.10 "Abandon All Hope...", outside the hardware store, the hardware store exploded, glass shattering, fire spreading, killing everyone and everything inside. Across the street, Catty, Sam, Dean and Ness couldn't help but stop, looking back into the flames to watch it blow, knowing that Ellen and Jo were gone, breathing heavily, mourning their loss silently, numbly. Ness was crying silently, looking more angry than sad, but despaired all the same.
From 5.15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid", in the Singer House, Bobby's room, Dean walked in to see Karen dead with Bobby and Ness by her side. He looked at them expressionlessly, sympathetic. Ness stood, looking at the gun in her hand, having been the one to kill her mother, tears in her eyes. She could barely meet Dean's gaze.
From 5.17 "99 Problems", in the Singer House, Ness was sitting in front of the fireplace. Bobby was sitting at his desk, facing Ness.
Ness looked at Bobby, realizing he was completely serious, smiling a small smile. "If we can stop the Apocalypse, after all of this is over, I promise that I will gt out. I promise I'll live a nice, normal, safe Human life. That's if I live long enough to try to get out."
Ness looked as if she hadn't believed a word that either of them had said, holding the pendant of her necklace.
From 5.20 "The Devil You Know", in the abandoned house, Ness and Sam were sitting across from each other at the table in front of the fireplace.
"Uh, Bobby told me that he made you promise to try to get out of the life once all of this is over," Sam told her. I'm going to ask Dean and Catty to promise they will get out of this life, and if they're alone, then they'll just slip right back into their old ways, and I don't want them to."
From 1.19 "Provenance", in the Blake Auction House, Brett and Catty continued to kiss in the doorway.
From 3.02 "The Kids Are Alright", in the park, Brett and Catty smiled sadly, looking down, still remaining close.
Sam: (voice over from 5.20 The Devil You Know) "So I'm gonna ask Catty to go to Brett. See if his offer about taking her in still stands."
From 5.20 "The Devil You Know", in the abandoned house, Ness and Sam were sitting across from each other at the table in front of the fireplace.
"And for Dean..." Sam trailed off. Ness looked up. "Ness, I just..."
From 5.03 "Free to Be You and Me", in TJz, Dean and Ness looked at each other for a long moment, smiles playing against their lips. Dean finally kissed Ness. Ness responded slowly, building up passionately.
From 5.20 "The Devil You Know", in the abandoned house, Ness and Sam were sitting across from each other at the table in front of the fireplace.
Ness knew what he was getting at. "Are you saying that you want me to live a normal life with Dean?"
From 5.21 "Two Minutes to Midnight", in the warehouse, Death, Dean and Catty sat at their table.
Death took off his ring, holding it up for them to see. "You're going to let your brother jump right into that fiery pit."
From 5.21 "Two Minutes to Midnight", in the Singer Salvage Yard, Dean, Catty and Ness sat at the table.
Bobby stood nearby. He looked at Dean and Catty. "So, I got to ask the both of you. What exactly are you afraid of? Losing? Or losing your brother?"
Dean and Catty didn't answer, looking at each other, looking as if they didn't know the answer themselves.

NOW
§
Flashback
Day - Car Factory
There were flashes of men building cars.
Chuck: (voice over) "On April 21, 1967, the 100 millionth GM vehicle rolled off the line at the plant in Janesville. A blue two-door Caprice. There was a big ceremony, speeches. The lieutenant governor even showed up."
§
Now
Day One
Morning - Chuck's House - Living Room
Chuck was sitting at the table, glasses on, reading from a manuscript.
Chuck: (voice over) "Three days late, another car rolled off that same line. No one gave two craps about her."
Chuck read aloud. "'But they should have'."
§
Flashback
Day - Car Factory
The Impala was just built, shimmering and shining.
Chuck: (voice over) "Because this 1967 Chevrolet Impala would turn out to be the most important car--"
§
Now
Day - Chuck's House - Living Room
Chuck paused in reading. "No, the most important object in pretty much the whole universe."
The manuscript read "Swan Song."
§
Flashback
Day - Car Factory
The price on the windshield of the Impala read "$3999."
A bald man in a suit without the jacket walked toward the Impala with her keys.
Chuck: (voice over) "She was first owned by Sal Moriarty, an alcoholic with two ex-wives and three blocked arteries."
Sal got into the car, holding up a thumbs up.
§
Night - On the Road - The Impala
Sal was driving alone. There was an angel figurine hanging from the rear view mirror. There were Bibles on the passenger seat.
Chuck: (voice over) "On weekends, he'd drive around giving Bibles to the poor." (southern accent) "'Getting folks right for Judgement Day'." (normal voice) "That's what he said."
§
Now
Day - Chuck's House - Living Room
Chuck was still sitting at the table, still reading the manuscript, taking a drink of alcohol.
Chuck: (voice over) "Sam, Catty and Dean don't know any of this, but if they did, I bet they'd smile. After Sal died, she ended up at Rainbow Motors."
§
Flashback - 4.03 "In the Beginning" - 1978
Day - Rainbow Motor's Car Dealership - Outside
The Impala was sitting in the parking lot. The price said $2204. It was dusty.
Chuck: (voice over) "A used car lot in Lawrence."
Catty opened the hood of the Impala for Young John to see.
Chuck: (voice over) "Where a young Marine bought her on impulse. This is, after a little advice from a friend."
§
Now
Day - Chuck's House - Living Room
Chuck was still sitting at the table, still reading the manuscript.
Chuck: (voice over) "I guess that's where this story begins."
Chuck took off his glasses. "And here's where it ends."
§
Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Singer Salvage Yard
Sam was sitting on the hood of the Impala, leaning against the windshield behind him, taking a long drink of beer. Catty and Dean walked closer.
"Hey," Sam told them. Dean took a beer out of a cooler, leaning against the Impala. "What's going on?"
Catty and Dean exchanged a look, looking at Sam.
"We're in," Catty told him.
"In with..." Sam trailed off.
"The whole 'up with Satan' thing," Dean answered. "We're on board."
Sam sat up, turning to face them. "You're gonna let me say yes?"
"No," Catty answered. "That's the thing. It's not on us to let you do anything. You're a grown--well, overgrown--man. If this is what you want, we'll back your play."
"That's the last thing I thought either of you would ever say," Sam told them.
"Might be," Dean told him. "I'm not gonna lie to you, though. Obviously, we talked about this, and it goes against every fiber we got. I mean, truth is... You know, watching out for you... it's kinda been my job, you know, that Catty picked up the second she thought she had to. But more than that. It's... it's kinda who we are. You're not a kid anymore, Sam, and we can't keep treating you like one. Maybe we got to grow up a little, too. I don't know if we got a snowball's chance. But... But I do know that if anybody can do it... it's you."
"Thank you," Sam told them.
"If this is what you want..." Catty trailed off. "Is this really what you want?"
"I let him out," Sam told them. "I got to put him back in."
"Okay," Catty told them. "That's it, then."
Catty, Dean and Sam each took a drink, looking away.
§ Worlds Colliding (Supernatural) §
Warehouse
Bodies hung upside down over a Devil's Trap. Sam wiped blood off a large knife. Castiel put the lid on a jug of blood. Dean and Catty stood nearby.
§
Outside
Sam and Castiel were carrying gallon jugs of blood, putting them in the truck of the Impala. Bobby, Ness and Octavia were standing by Ness' Car.
Ness looked at Bobby. "I still can't get used to you at eye level." Bobby smiled sarcastically. Octavia smirked. Dean and Catty walked toward them. Ness looked at Dean and Catty. "So, was I right?"
"As always, Yoda," Catty answered. "Two stunt Demons inside, just like you said."
"Did you get it?" Octavia asked.
"Yeah, all the 'go juice' Sammy can drink," Dean answered.
"You okay?" Ness asked.
"Not really," Catty answered. "What do you got?"
"Not much," Bobby answered. "These look like omens to you?" He handed Dean a newspaper. "Cyclone in Florida, temperature drop in Detroit, wildfires in LA."
"Wait," Catty told them. "What about Detroit?"
"Temp's dropped about 20 degrees, but only in a five-block radius of downtown Motown," Bobby explained.
Catty nodded. "That's the one. Devil's in Detroit."
"Really?" Bobby asked. "As far as foreboding goes, it's a little light in the loafers. You sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure," Catty answered.
Sam looked toward them nervously.
§
Night - On the Road
The Impala drove down the road. Ness' Car followed shortly behind.
§
Ness' Car
Ness was driving. Bobby was in the passenger seat. Castiel was behind Bobby. Octavia was behind Ness, asleep.
Ness looked into the rear view mirror to see Octavia sleeping. "Ava? Aw. Ain't she a little Angel?"
"Angels don't sleep," Castiel told them.
Bobby and Ness exchanged a look, not liking the sound of Octavia sleeping if Angels didn't sleep.
§
The Impala
Dean was driving. Sam was in the passenger seat.
Catty was in the backseat. "Guys, I got a bad feeling about this."
"Well, you'd be nuts to have a good feeling about it," Dean told her.
"You know what I mean," Catty told them. She looked at Sam. "Detroit. He always said he'd jump your bones in Detroit. Here we are."
"Here we are," Sam agreed.
"Maybe this is him rolling out the red carpet, you know?" Catty asked. "Maybe he knows something that we don't."
"Catty, I'm sure he knows a buttload we don't," Dean told her. "We just got to hope he doesn't know about the rings."
Sam hesitated. "Hey, um... on the subject... There's something I got to talk to you about."
"What?" Dean asked.
"This thing goes our way, and I... Triple Lindy into that box..." Sam trailed off. "You know I'm not coming back."
"Yeah, we're aware," Dean answered.
"So both of you got to promise me something," Sam told them.
"Okay," Dean told him. "Yeah. Anything."
"You got to promise not to try to bring me back," Sam told them.
"What?" Dean asked. "No, we didn't sign up for that."
"Dean--" Sam started.
"Sam, we're not just gonna sit by and do nothing," Dean told him.
"Once the Cage is shut, you can't go poking at it," Sam told them. "It's too risky."
"No, no, no, no, no," Catty told him. "As if we're just gonna let you rot in there."
"Yeah, you are," Sam told them. "You don't have a choice."
"You can't ask us to do this," Dean told him.
"I'm sorry, guys," Sam told them. "You have to."
Dean and Catty looked at each other, knowing that Sam was right, but hating every minute of it, slowly giving in.
Dean looked at Sam. "So then what are we supposed to do?"
Sam sighed. "Bobby made Ness promise that if we managed to do this, and we stopped the Apocalypse, that she had to give up the life." Catty and Dean were surprised. "That once all of this was over and Ness survived, that she would life a normal one, because of everything that happened to them this year. Dean, I want you to live that normal life with Ness. Cat, you go to Brett. You pray to God he's dumb enough to take you in." He looked between them. "You--you have barbecues and you go to football games. You go live some normal, apple-pie life. Promise me."
Catty and Dean didn't answer, looking at Sam, then each other, looking away.
§
Detroit, Michigan
Alley
The Impala and Ness' Car were parked together. Everyone was out next to the cars.
Castiel looked toward the building toward a man who was standing in the window. He walked toward the others. "Demons. At least two dozen of them. Something's up."
"More than something," Catty told them. "He's here. I know it."
Dean and Catty walked toward the trunk of the Impala. Sam looked at Bobby and Ness.
"I'll see you around, kid," Bobby told him.
"See you around," Sam told him, wrapping his arms around him.
Bobby returned the embrace. "He gets in... You fight him tooth and nail, you understand? Keep swinging. Don't give an inch."
Sam pulled away. "Yes, sir." He looked at Ness. "You remember what we talked about?"
Ness looked toward Dean. "Yeah, I remember." She looked at Sam. "But I didn't promise you anything."
"Yeah, but Dean did," Sam told her. Ness looked toward Dean again, this time in surprise. Dean noticed. Ness looked at Sam. "Just... you already promised your dad to get out. Ness, promise me... you'll help Dean stay out, too."
Ness hesitated, nodding barely, looking as if she was hiding what she really felt. "I promise, Sam. I'll be there."
Sam and Ness embraced. Ness sniffled, pulling away.
Sam walked toward Octavia, sighing. "Thank you, Ava. For, uh, being there to save us, even if you got hurt or died, I guess."
Octavia smiled a small, sad smile. "Sam, I was doing what I knew was right. No matter what the cost. Just like what you're doing now."
Sam nodded in agreement. "No matter what the cost."
Sam held his hand toward Octavia.
Octavia took Sam's hand in her own, leaning closer to kiss Sam on the cheek, pulling away. "Goodbye, Sam."
Sam smiled a small smile. "Bye, Ava." He held a hand toward Castiel. "Take care of these guys, okay?"
"That's not possible," Castiel told him.
"Then humor me," Sam told him.
"Oh," Castiel told him. "I was supposed to lie. Uh... sure. They'll be fine."
"Just--just stop... talking," Sam told him. Catty smiled sadly, looking down. Sam walked toward Dean and Catty, looking into the trunk where the open jugs of Demon blood sat. "You mind not watching this?"
Dean and Catty walked away toward Bobby, Ness, Octavia and Castiel. Sam picked up a jug.
§
Later
Sam cleared his throat, closing the trunk, walking toward them, taking a deep breath. "Okay. Let's go."
Sam walked past them. Dean and Catty hesitated, looking at Ness, Octavia, Bobby and Castiel for a moment, following Sam. Ness, Octavia, Bobby and Castiel watched them go.
§
Street
Sam, Catty and Dean walked toward the building with all of the Demons.
Catty raised her arms in a shrug. "All right! We're here, you sons of bitches!" She lowered her arms. "Come and get it!"
Three Demons walked outside.
"Hey, guys," Dean told them mockingly. "Is your father home?"
§
Inside - Apartment
The three Demons dragged Catty, Sam and Dean inside.
Lucifer was standing next to the window, his vessel looking worse than before. "Hey, guys. So nice of you to drop in."
Catty, Sam and Dean didn't answer, breathing deeply, not showing a reaction.
§
Lucifer breathed on the window pane, drawing a pitchfork in the condensation. "Sorry if it's a bit chilly. Most people think I burn hot. It's actually quite the opposite."
"Well, I'll alert the media," Catty told him sarcastically.
Lucifer turned to face Catty, Sam, Dean and the Demons restraining them. "Help me understand something, guys. I mean, stomping through my front door is... a tad suicidal, don't you think?"
"We're not here to fight you," Sam told him.
"No?" Lucifer asked. "Then why are you?"
"I want to say 'yes'," Sam answered.
"Excuse me?" Lucifer asked.
Sam took a deep breath, closing his eyes, using magic to kill the three Demons behind them easily. The Demons flashed with red light in the head before falling dead.
Lucifer looked at Sam. "Chock-full of Ovaltine, are we?"
"You heard me," Sam told him. "Yes."
"You're serious," Lucifer realized.
"Look, Judgement Day's a runaway train," Sam told him. "We get it now. We just want off."
"Meaning?" Lucifer asked.
"Deal of the century," Sam told him. "I give you a free ride, but when it's all over, I live, they live, you bring our parents back--"
"Okay, can we please drop the telenovela?" Lucifer asked. "I know you have the rings, Sam."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Sam told him.
"The Horsemen rings?" Lucifer asked, stepping closer, standing between Catty and Sam. "The magic keys to my Cage? Ring a bell? Come on, Sam." He walked past them, turning to face them. "I've never lied to you. You could at least pay me the same respect." Dean, Sam and Catty turned to face him. Lucifer looked between them. "It's okay. I'm not mad." He looked at Sam. "A wrestling match inside your noggin... I like the idea. Just you and me, one round, no tricks. You win, you jump in the hole. I win... Well, then I win. What do you say, Sam? A fiddle of gold against your soul says I'm better than you."
Sam looked at Dean and Catty. "So he knows. Doesn't change anything."
"Sam," Dean told him.
"We don't have any other choice," Sam told them.
"No," Dean told him.
Sam looked at Lucifer. Dean and Catty exchanged a worried look, looking from Sam to Lucifer.
"Yes," Sam told him.
Lucifer closed his eyes, making a bright light emanate from him.
§
Outside
Ness, Octavia, Bobby and Castiel watched as the windows of the building blazed with light, hearing the ear-piercing noise of Angel speak, then dimming, fading into darkness and silence.
§
Inside
Dean and Catty looked over the room. Sam was motionless on the floor.
Catty took the Horsemen rings out of her pocket, which were connected like before, throwing them at the wall, making them stick. "Bvtmon... Tabges... Babalon. [Open the mouth of the cave to the wicked.]"
The wall started to break, crumbling into a hole of darkness, air being sucked into the hole, along with the pieces of the wall, everything around them being affected by the wind. Sam stirred awake. Dean and Catty ran to Sam's side.
"Sammy!" Dean told him.
"Dean!" Sam told them. "Catty!"
"Sammy!" Dean told him.
Sam groaned in pain. "I can feel him. Oh, God."
"You got to go now," Dean told him. "Come on!" Catty and Dean helped Sam stand. "Go now, Sammy. Now!"
Sam walked toward the hole, taking several deep breaths, about to jump. He stopped, turning to face Catty and Dean, smiling. "I was just messing with you. Sammy's long gone." They glared at Sam/Lucifer. Sam/Lucifer turned to the hole in the wall. "Chdr bvtmon tabges babalon." The hole closed, replacing the wall, as if nothing happened. Sam/Lucifer removed the Horsemen rings from the wall, turning to face Catty and Dean, looking at Catty. "I told you. This would always happen in Detroit."
Sam/Lucifer disappeared. Dean put his hands to his head in anger and despair. Catty turned away, putting her hands to the face, tears in her eyes.
§
Building
Five people were standing in a loose circle. Most of them were wearing suits. A girl was wearing a white evening gown.
Sam/Lucifer walked in, stretching, flexing. He turned to a mirror. His expression was different in the mirror. "Come on, Sam. I can hear what you're thinking. And you got me all wrong, kiddo. I'm not the bad guy here. Inside your grapefruit... I can see it all. How odd you always felt, how... out of place in that... family of yours. And why shouldn't you have? They were foster care. At best. I'm your real family."
The reflection in the mirror was actually Sam. He shook his head. "No, that's not true."
"It is," Sam/Lucifer told him. "And I know you know it. All those times you ran away? You weren't running from them. You were running towards me. This doesn't have to be a bad thing, you know. I let Dean and Catty live, didn't I? I want them to live. I'll bring your folks back, too. I want you to be happy, Sam."
"I don't want anything from you," Sam told him.
"Really?" Sam/Lucifer asked. "Not even a little payback?"
"What's that supposed to mean?" Sam asked.
"Look closely," Sam/Lucifer told him. They looked around the room. "None of these little devils look familiar to you?"
Sam looked at Man 1. "That's Mr. Bensman. One of my grade-school teachers."
Sam/Lucifer looked at Man 2. "And that's your friend Doug from that time in East Lansing." He looked at the girl in the prom dress. "And Rachel..." He looked into the mirror to look at Sam. "Your prom date. Sam Winchester, this is your life. Azazel's gang, watching you since you were a rugrat, jerking you around like a dog on a leash." Sam was overwhelmed and angry. "I know how you feel about them. Me, too. Like I said. Why don't you and I get a little payback?"
Sam didn't answer.

Day Two
Morning - Street
Castiel, Octavia, Dean, Catty, Ness and Bobby were watching the news playing on TVs in a store window.
Woman: (on TV) "Reports are flooding in a 7.6 earthquake in Portland, 8.1 in Boston, more in Hong Kong, Berlin, and Tehran. The U.S.G.S. has no explanation but says to expect a six-figure death toll."
"It's starting," Castiel told them.
"Yeah, you think, genius?" Dean asked.
"You don't have to be mean," Castiel told him.
"So what do we do now?" Octavia asked.
"I suggest we imbibe copious quantities of alcohol," Castiel told them. "Just wait for the inevitable blast wave."
"Yeah, swell," Octavia told him sarcastically. "Thank you, Bukowski. I--I mean, how do we stop it?"
"We don't," Castiel told them. "Lucifer will meet Michael on the chosen field, and the battle of Armageddon begins."
"Okay, well, where's this chosen field?" Catty asked.
"I don't know," Castiel told them.
"Well, there's got to be something that we can do," Catty told them.
"I'm sorry, Catty," Castiel told her. "This is over."
"You listen to me, you junkless sissy," Dean told him. "We are not giving up."
"Dad?" Ness asked. Bobby didn't answer. Ness looked at Bobby. "Dad?"
"There was never much hope to begin with," Bobby told them. "I don't know what else to do."
Octavia sighed, turning away. Dean was irritated and impatient, losing hope. Catty was losing her usual drive. Ness was thinking.
§
Building
The five Demons were dead on the floor.
Sam/Lucifer sat on the steps, breathing deeply. He looked into the nearby mirror to see Sam looked more disturbed and scared than angry and content. "So... you feel better now?"
§
Flashback
Day - On the Road
The Impala drove under a bridge, down the misty road.
Chuck: (voice over) "In between jobs, Sam, Catty and Dean would sometimes get a day, sometimes a week, if they were lucky. "
§
4.09 "I Know What You Did Last Summer"
Night - Bar
Catty was hustling pool with the man named Brian. She looked at Sam and Dean, showing no trace of drunkenness to show them she was just hustling him, raising her eyebrows, smiling. Dean raised his eyebrows at Catty, impressed. Sam smirked.
Chuck: (voice over) "They'd pass the time lining their pockets. Sam used to insist on honest work, like Ness worked at TJz as a bartender, even though Ness was still a hunter like them, but now he hustles pool, like his brother and sister."
§
Multiple
There were flashes, glimpses and blendings of the Impala driving down roads, up inclines, down hills, night and day.
Chuck: (voice over) "They could go anywhere and do anything. They drove 1,000 miles for an Ozzy show, two days for a Jayhawks game."
§
Night - Field
Sam, Catty and Dean were sitting on the hood of the Impala, drinking beers, and looking at the night sky above them. Catty was pointing numerously, suggesting she was counting stars.
Chuck: (voice over) "And when it was clear, they'd park her in the middle of nowhere, sit on the hood, and watch the stars. For hours. Without saying a word. Sometimes, when Catty was feeling well, she'd count the stars and say that's how many days they'd get of peace and evil, depending on the size, shape and color of the star."
§
3.10 "Dream a Little Dream of Me"
Night - Woods
Catty was sleeping in the driver's seat. Dean was sleeping in the passenger seat. Sam was sleeping in the backseat.
Chuck: (voice over) "It never occurred to them that, sure, maybe they never really had a roof and four walls..."
§
Now
Night - Chuck's House - Living Room
Chuck was still sitting at the table, still reading the manuscript.
Chuck: (voice over) "But they were never, in fact, homeless."
Chuck nodded to himself. "That's a good line." His phone rang. He picked it up from the table, answering. "Mistress Magda?"
Ness' voice was on the other line. "Um, no, Chuck."
Chuck had a busted look. "Oh, uh, Ness. Uh, wow. I, uh, I didn't know that you'd call."
Ness was in an alley, leaning against her car. "Mistress Magda? Really?"
In Chuck's House, on the table, there was a newspaper article for an escort line. The face of the add had the subtitle Mistress Magda.
"It's nothing," Chuck told her. "She's a, uh, a--just a, uh... a close friend."
"Yeah, I'll bet," Ness told him sarcastically. "Real close. Whatever happened to Becky?"
"Didn't work out," Chuck told her. "I had too much respect for her." He cleared his throat. "This can't be why you called."
"Sam said yes," Ness told him.
"I know," Chuck told her. "I saw it. I'm just..." He looked at the manuscript. "Working on the pages."
"Did you see where the title fight goes down?" Ness asked.
"The Angels are keeping it top secret," Chuck told her. "Very hush-hush."
"Aw, crap," Ness told him.
"But I saw it anyway, Ness," Chuck told her. "Perks of being a Prophet. It's tomorrow, high noon. Place called Stull Cemetery."
"Stull Ceme--" Ness started. "Wait. I know that. That's--that's an old boneyard outside of Lawrence. Why Lawrence?"
"I don't know," Chuck told her. "It all has to end where it started, I guess."
"All right, Chuck, look," Ness told him. "You know of any way to short-circuit this thing?"
"Besides the rings?" Chuck asked. "No. I'm sorry."
"Well, do you have any idea what's gonna happen next?" Ness asked.
"I wish that I did, Ness," Chuck told her. "But I--I just--I honestly don't know yet."
"All right," Ness told him. "Thanks, Chuck."
Ness hung up, thinking. Chuck hung up, looking at the manuscript he had been reading all along. He looked over to several other manuscripts that were gathered on nearby tables.
§
Alley
Dean closed the trunk of the Impala. Catty and Ness stood next to him. Bobby, Castiel and Octavia walked closer.
"You going someplace?" Octavia asked. Ness, Dean and Catty turned to face them. "You're going to do something stupid. You all got that look. You might not be going, Ness, but Dean and Catty are, right? You're going to go talk to Sam? Trying to get through Lucifer to get to Sam."
"You're a genius Angel, Ava," Ness told her.
Bobby shook his head. "You three just don't give up."
"It's Sam," Octavia told them. "Of course they wouldn't give up."
"If you couldn't reach him here, you're certainly not gonna be able to on the battlefield," Castiel told them.
"Well, if we've already lost, I guess we got nothing to lose, right?" Dean asked.
"I just want you to understand," Castiel told them. "The only thing that you're gonna see out there is Michael killing your brother."
"You mean our half-brother we barely know killing the brother that we've known our whole lives," Catty told him. "Well, then, we ain't gonna let him die alone, Cas."
Castiel sighed. "Catty..."
Catty got into the passenger seat of the Impala.
"Dean..." Ness trailed off. Dean looked at Ness. Ness barely nodded. "Be careful."
Dean nodded. "See you around, Ness."
Dean got into the driver's seat of the Impala. The Impala drove away. Ness watched them go, seeming to be thinking.

Lawrence, Kansas
Day Three
Morning - Stull Cemetery
Sam/Lucifer stood in the cemetery. Adam/Michael appeared.
"It's good to see you, Michael," Sam/Lucifer told him.
"You, too," Adam/Michael told him. "It's been too long. Can you believe it's finally here?"
"No," Sam/Lucifer answered. "No really."
"Are you ready?" Adam/Michael asked.
"As I'll ever be," Sam/Lucifer answered. "A part of me wishes we didn't have to do this."
"Yeah," Adam/Michael agreed. "Me, too."
"Then why are we?" Sam/Lucifer asked.
"Oh, you know why," Adam/Michael told him. "I have no choice, after what you did."
"What I did?" Sam/Lucifer repeated. "What if it's not my fault?"
"What is that supposed to mean?" Adam/Michael asked.
"Think about it," Sam/Lucifer told him. "Dad made everything. Which means he made me who I am. God wanted the Devil."
"So?" Adam/Michael asked.
"So, why?" Sam/Lucifer asked. "And why make us fight? I just can't figure out the point."
"What's your point?" Adam/Michael asked.
"We're going to kill each other," Sam/Lucifer told him. "And for what? One of Dad's tests? And we don't even know the answer. We're brothers. Let's just walk off the chessboard."
"I'm sorry," Adam/Michael told him. "I--I can't do that. I'm a good son, and I have my orders."
"But you don't have to follow them," Sam/Lucifer told him.
"What, you think I'm going to rebel?" Adam/Michael asked. "Now? I'm not like you."
"Please, Michael," Sam/Lucifer told him.
"You know, you haven't changed a bit, little brother," Adam/Michael told him. "Always blaming everybody but yourself. We were together. We were happy. But you betrayed me. All of us. And you make our father leave."
"No one makes Dad do anything," Sam/Lucifer told him. "He is doing this to us."
"You're a monster, Lucifer," Adam/Michael told him. "And I have to kill you."
"If that's the way it's got to be... then I'd like to see you try," Sam/Lucifer told him.
Sam/Lucifer and Adam/Michael slowly circled each other. They heard the sound of a car engine.
§
The Impala
(Song:) Rock of Ages - Def Leppard
Catty put a tape into the tape deck, turning up the volume all the way up.
§
Outside
The Impala drove up in front of Sam/Lucifer and Adam/Michael, pulling over to a stop. Catty and Dean got out of the car.
Catty leaned against the car next to her, crossing her arms over her chest, smirking. "Howdy, boys."
"Sorry," Dean told them, clearly not sorry at all. "Are we interrupting something?"
(Song Ends)
§
Dean looked at Sam/Lucifer. "Hey. We need to talk."
"Even for the two of you, this is a whole new mountain of stupid," Sam/Lucifer told them.
"I'm not talking to you," Dean told him. "I'm talking to Sam."
Catty looked at Adam/Michael. "Oh, and Adam, while we're at it, yeah?"
"You're no longer the vessel, Catty," Adam/Michael told her. "And you have never been one, Dean. You got no right to be here."
"Adam, if you're in there somewhere, I am so sorry," Catty told him.
"Adam isn't home right now," Adam/Michael told them.
"Well, then you're next on our list, buttercup," Dean told him. "But right now, we need five minutes with him."
Dean nodded to Sam/Lucifer.
"You little maggot," Adam/Michael told him. "You are not a part of this story. You never were!"
They heard Castiel's voice. "Hey, ass-butt!"
Sam/Lucifer, Catty, Dean, and Adam/Michael looked toward Ness, Bobby and Castiel. Castiel was holding a Molotov cocktail, throwing the flaming bottle at Adam/Michael, setting him on fire, making him scream in agony. Sam/Lucifer, Catty and Dean turned away, shielding their eyes and faces. Adam/Michael disappeared with the burning fire.
Catty looked at Castiel. "'Ass-butt'?"
"He'll be back, and upset, but you got your five minutes," Castiel told them.
"Castiel," Sam/Lucifer told him. "Did you just Molotov my brother with Holy Fire?"
"Uh..." Castiel trailed off. "No."
"No one dicks with Michael but me," Sam/Lucifer told him, snapping his fingers.
Castiel exploded in a rain of blood and flesh.
Catty was horrified. "No!"
Dean slowly looked at Sam/Lucifer. "Sammy, can you hear me?"
Sam/Lucifer turned to face Catty and Dean. "You know, I tried to be nice... for Sammy's sake. But you two... are such a pain... in my ass."
Sam/Lucifer threw Catty onto the windshield of the Impala, making it shatter. Ness and Bobby shot Lucifer in the back. Sam/Lucifer turned to face Ness and Bobby. Ness and Bobby shot Sam/Lucifer in the chest. Sam/Lucifer looked from the bullet wounds to Ness and Bobby, twisting his hand, using magic to snap Bobby's neck.
Ness watched Bobby's body fall in horror, agonized. "No!"
Sam/Lucifer looked at Ness. "Yes." He glared at Ness. Ness started to gasp for breath, unable to breathe. "I warned you to stay out, Ness. You should have listened."
Ness lowered to her knees painfully, vomiting blood onto the ground in front of her.
Dean was worried, horrified, in denial. "Ness!" Dean punched Sam/Lucifer in the face. Sam/Lucifer punched Dean in the face, making him fall to the ground, punching him repeatedly, making Dean's face swell and bleed badly. Dean spit up blood. "Sammy? Are you in there?"
"Oh, he's in here, all right," Sam/Lucifer answered, punching Dean in the face. "And he's gonna feel the snap of your bones." He punched him in the face. "Every single one." He pulled Dean to his feet. Catty slid off of the hood of the car. "We can either do it quick or take or time. I vote for option one."
Sam/Lucifer looked as if he was about to make a motion to break all of the bones in Dean's body.
Catty took a piece of glass from the hood, stabbing Sam/Lucifer in the shoulder, making him groan in pain, and stop from killing Dean. "Sorry, Sammy." Sam/Lucifer turned to face Catty angrily. Catty raised her eyebrows. "How you like me now?" Sam/Lucifer punched Catty in the face twice, making her lip bleed and her turn away. He grabbed Catty's shoulder, pushing her against the car door of the Impala, punching her repeatedly. Catty put a hand to his jacket. "Sam, it's okay. It's okay. I'm here. Dean's here. We're not gonna leave you." Sam/Lucifer punched Catty in the face twice. "We're not gonna leave you."
Sam/Lucifer punched into Catty's chest hard enough to make bones crunch, crushing in on themselves. "Sounds like I hit a lung. Which means you're gonna drown in your own blood."
Dean laid weakly on the ground, unable to do anything. "No."
Sam/Lucifer pushed Catty onto the ground next to Dean. Catty gasped for breath, unable to breath, blood trailing from her mouth to the ground. Dean looked at Catty in horror, unable to do anything. Sam/Lucifer glared at Catty and Dean, walking closer to finish them off. Octavia was behind him, trying to stake Sam/Lucifer with her Angel Sword. Sam/Lucifer turned to face Octavia, catching her wrist, gripping her throat. Octavia glared at Sam/Lucifer, unable to breathe but not seeming as fazed as a normal Human.
Sam/Lucifer smirked. "Well, look at that. An occupied vessel, but powerless. Oh, that's fascinating. There's not a speck of Angel in you, is there, Octavia?"
Octavia's anger gave her enough power to make her hands glow white, the magic burning Sam/Lucifer, making him let go. "Maybe just a speck."
Sam/Lucifer walked toward Octavia angrily. Octavia spun her Angel Sword quickly yet slowly in a pattern, using it as a reflection to aim at Sam/Lucifer of the following images: the sunlight, the Impala, and Dean and Catty's dying bodies. Sam/Lucifer stopped in confusion, focused on the sword and the reflections.

Now
Day - Stull Cemetery
Sam/Lucifer was slowly brought out of his trance. Octavia stopped spinning the Angel Sword, falling back into a fighting stance, sword held ready just in case.
Sam was able to take control, looking at Octavia, breathing heavily with the effort. "It's okay, Octavia. Ava, I've got him." Sam took out the Horsemen rings, tossing them to the ground. "Bvtmon tabges babalon."
The ground caved in around the rings, air pulling in everything around. Octavia relaxed, lowering the sword to her side, watching worriedly. Sam looked at Bobby's body in guilt. He looked at the beaten Dean holding Ness and Catty's bodies in anguish. He looked at Octavia.
Octavia didn't react, looking sad to see him go. "Sam..."
"It's okay, Ava," Sam told her.

Adam/Michael appeared. "It's not gonna end this way! Step back!"
"You're gonna have to make me," Sam told him.
"He's not going to stop, Sam," Octavia told him.
"I have to fight my brother!" Adam/Michael told him. "Here and now. It's my destiny!"
Sam looked from Octavia to Dean to Ness and Catty's bodies, closing his eyes, raising his arms. Adam/Michael ran toward him, grabbing Sam's jacket. Sam grabbed Adam/Michael's arms, jumping into the hole, pulling him with him, both of them falling into the darkness. Octavia watched Sam fall into the Pit with Adam/Michael in worry. After a few moments, the hole closed in a blinding flash of light, restoring the ground as if nothing had happened. The Horsemen rings burned bright in the grass on the ground where the hole had been. Octavia slowly looked from the rings on the ground to Dean, to Catty, Ness and Bobby's bodies. Dean was still holding Ness and Catty's bodies, crying silently, too beaten and bleeding to make a sound.
§
Octavia slowly walked toward the rings on the ground, not seeming to find the victory here. She seemed saddened and guilty over the major deaths they had faced, lowering to her knees, picking up the rings, looking at them in her hand. Dean was still holding Ness and Catty's bodies, tears mixing with blood, anguished. Castiel walked closer to them.
Octavia heard the sound, looking up cautiously, standing, turning to face them, raising the Angel Sword until she realized who it was. "Cas, you're alive?"
Castiel smiled a bit. "I'm better than that, Ava."
Castiel looked at Dean, and Catty and Ness' bodies, putting two fingers tips to either of their heads, using magic to heal Dean and to bring Catty and Ness back to life. Ness and Catty gasped alive, completely healed, looking around in confusion.
Catty realized what happened, looking at Castiel, standing. "Cas, are you God?"
"That's a nice compliment, Catty," Castiel told her. "But, no." Dean and Ness stood. "Although, I do believe he brought me back. New and improved."
Castiel walked toward Bobby's body, putting two fingers tips to his head, using magic to bring him back to life. Bobby gasped alive, completely healed, looking around in confusion. Castiel walked toward Octavia, putting two finger tips to her head, using magic to heal her. Octavia still didn't seem happy, even with a turn around like this. Castiel nodded understandingly, walking away, leaving. Octavia looked at the Horsemen rings in her hand.
Chuck: (voice over) "Endings are hard."

Chuck's House - Living Room
Chuck put down the manuscript "Swan Song", pouring himself a drink, drinking.
Chuck: (voice over) "Any chapped-ass monkey with a keyboard can poop out a beginning, but endings are impossible. You try to tie up every loose end, but you never can. The fans are always gonna bitch. There's always gonna be holes. And since it's the ending, it's all supposed to add up to something. I'm telling you, they're a raging pain in the ass."
Chuck put the glass down, thinking.

Day Four
Day - Woods
Octavia was standing alone, closing her eyes, concentrating, using magic to make a wind blow all around her, blowing around leaves and her hair, revealing she was back to full potential due to Castiel healing her the day before. She let the wind die down, opening her eyes. "What are you gonna do now?"
Castiel walked closer. "Return to Heaven, I suppose."
"Heaven?" Octavia repeated.
"With Michael in the Cage, I'm sure it's total anarchy up there," Castiel told her.
"So, what, you're the new sheriff in town?" Octavia asked.
"I like that," Castiel told her. "Yeah. I suppose I am. What about you, Ava?"
Octavia thought for a moment. "I'll help you." Castiel nodded. Octavia sighed. "We got what we asked for, Cas. No paradise. No Hell. Just more of the same. I mean it. What would you rather have? Peace... or freedom?"
Castiel didn't answer. Octavia looked away. Neither of them looked as if they had the answer themselves.

Singer Salvage Yard
Dean and Ness were standing next to the Impala, Ness' Car and Catty's Mustang.
Dean looked at Ness. "So, you died yesterday."
Ness shrugged. "Yeah, and so did Catty and Cas. Again. And my dad. Ava almost died again, too." She looked at Dean. "Yeah, well, you're not a real hunter unless you've died and come back to life. Too bad it doesn't matter. I promised my dad that I would hang it up after the Apocalypse was over. Of course, I thought that I wouldn't have to follow through on it, because I thought that... I thought that the Apocalypse was never gonna be over."
Dean nodded in understanding. "Yeah, good heads up with that, too."
Ness looked up. "Sam told you about that?"
"Uh-huh," Dean answered.
Ness looked down. "What else did Sam say to you?"
"He told me about him trying to make you promise to be there for me when he's gone," Dean answered. "Like Catty did when she died. But, uh, Sam made me promise to live a normal life. He made Cat make the same promise, to go to Brett. But he told me that you didn't promise him anything. Yet."
"Is that something you'd want?" Ness asked.
"Honestly?" Dean asked. "It's something... It's something that I need."
Ness looked at Dean. "You mean that, don't you?"
Dean took a moment to respond, nodding. "Yeah. Yeah, I do. I've been saying that I was done for a while. But I never really thought that I could just... stop. But now Sammy goes and makes me and Catty promise that we both would. Me with you, Cat with Brett. And Sammy makes you and me promise that we would be..."
Ness nodded. "Yeah."
"You know, when I saw something other than this crazy life we've been stuck living in..." Dean trailed off. "It was a normal, safe, apple-pie life with you. And if it's not too late... I'd actually like to make that into a reality."
Ness turned to Dean, nodding reassuringly. "It's never too late."
Dean nodded barely.

Later
Dean and Ness were packing away into the Impala. Catty was packing her things into the trunk of Catty's Mustang, closing the lid, walking toward them and Bobby. Bobby and Dean embraced, pulling away. Bobby and Catty embraced, pulling away. Bobby and Ness embraced.
"Thank you," Ness told him. "For everything."
"Don't you dare say goodbye, Nessie," Bobby told her. "This isn't a goodbye."
Ness pulled away, shaking her head. "No. I'm not leaving my job. I'm not leaving this town. It's the closest thing I have to a normal life. Always has been. And so have you." Bobby smiled sadly. He looked at Dean and Catty, nodding. Dean and Catty in return. Ness walked toward Catty, wrapping her arms around her. Catty returned the embrace. "Bye, Catty."
Catty sniffled, pulling away. "Bye, Ness. Thank you. For literally being a sister to me."
Ness smiled a small, sad smile, stepping aside. Dean and Catty looked at each other, embracing.
"Be safe out there," Dean told her.
Catty was trying not to cry. "I will."
Dean and Catty pulled away. Catty took a few deep breaths.
Chuck: (voice over) "This is the last Dean and Catty will see of each other for a very long time."
Catty looked at Dean, nodding. Dean forced himself to smile for Catty's sake.
Chuck: (voice over) "But for the record, even without seeing each other, they will keep in touch. And so will Catty and Ness."
Catty nodded to Ness. "Take care of him for me, will you?"
"Of course I will take care of Dean, so you take care of yourself, Cat," Ness told her.
Catty nodded, looking at Bobby, waving sadly.
Chuck: (voice over) "Catty didn't want Cas to save her. Every part of her, every fiber she's got, wants to die, or find a way to bring Sam and Adam back."
Catty walked toward Catty's Mustang, getting into the car, driving away.
Chuck: (voice over) "And even while he doesn't want to die, Dean also wants to find a way to save their brothers."
Dean watched her go. Dean and Ness looked at Bobby, then each other, getting into the Impala, driving away, leaving.
Chuck: (voice over) "But they're not gonna do either. Because they made a promise."

Brett opened the door to find Catty standing outside.
Catty smiled brokenly, barely speaking above a whisper. "Hey, Brett."
Brett sighed in relief. "Oh, thank God. Are you all right?"
Catty slowly shook her head, slowly stepping inside into Brett's arms, starting to cry silently.
Brett didn't need an explanation, worried as he held Catty.
Chuck: (voice over) "So, what's it all add up to? It's hard to say. But me, I'd say this was a test... for Sam, Catty and Dean. Ness, Castiel, Octavia and Bobby, too. And I think they did all right."

Dean was sitting at a table.
Ness brought food and drinks, looking at Dean. "Dean? You okay?"
Dean took the bottle of whiskey from Ness. "Yeah. I'm good." He took a drink of whiskey. Ness sat down across from him, taking a drink. "Hey, Ness?"
