chapter 6 - There's No Place Like Homecoming

Outfits in the external link

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in Pen's room, Pen opened the closet door, searching.

Something fell to the floor.

The other three girls gasped.

Dakota: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (Pretty Little Liars)"

Pen stepped closer. "Guys." She picked up the object from the floor. "Check it out."

It was lipstick.

Pen opened the cap, looking to the mirror that had lip stick written on it. She rubbed the stick on the back of her hand, walking toward the mirror, putting her hand on the edge of the mirror, comparing the two reds together.

It was the same shade.

Madison: (voice over from 1.05 Reality Bites Me) "It's Alison's color."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the school hallway, Pen, Peyton, Madison and Lucy were standing at Peyton's locker.

"You don't seriously think that a blind girl broke into my house," Pen told them.

"Well, I didn't say that Jenna was alone," Madison told them.

Lucy rolled her eyes. "Let's not go to the Toby place."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the elevator, Jenna and Madison were in the elevator.

Jenna pulled out lip stick, putting it on.

Madison stepping closer slightly to look at the shade of red she was using.

Madison: (voice over from 1.05 Reality Bites Me) "You guys think her guide dog left behind her lipstick?"

Jenna knew she was watching, putting the lipstick away. "Do you like the color?"

Madison backed away, nodding. "Uh-huh."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the Montgomery's living room, Byron and Ella were arguing.

Byron was sitting on the couch.

Ella was pacing angrily. "She lives in this town. I have to see her. I have to talk to her. I befriended this woman."

Mike: (voice over from 1.05 Reality Bites Me) "Do you think they're gonna work this out?"

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in Mike's room, Aria, Evan and Mike were on the bed, eating and watching TV

"I really don't know," Aria told them.

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the dentist office's hallway, Hanna walked out of a room.

Jenna walked past her, down the hallway.

Hanna followed her, staying on the other side of the wall.

Hanna: (voice over from 1.05 Reality Bites Me) "Let me get in the office and see what I can find."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the therapist's office, Hanna sat on the couch, looking over the paperwork, whispering. "Psychotherapy. You're her therapist."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", outside the country club, Peyton was practicing tennis.

Alex was watching. "You and I have very different ides of what's friendly. That's an angry serve."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the street, Sean got into Amber's car.

Hanna: (voice over from 1.05 Reality Bites Me) "If you want to take someone else to homecoming, Sean, you should."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the hallway of the dentist office, Hanna and Sean were talking.

"Why would I do that?" Sean asked. "It's not like I'd actually go with anyone else."

From 1.04 "Can You Hear Me Now?", in the school hallway, Dakota was at her locker.

She heard a group of jocks laughing, looking toward them.

The group of jocks were looking down the hallway.

Dakota followed their gaze toward where Toby was at his locker.

Toby opened his locker.

Shaving cream cascaded out of his locker to the floor.

The jocks laughed.

Dakota sighed in annoyance, closing her locker, walking toward the jocks. "Don't you have somewhere better to be?"

Dakota rolled her eyes, walking away.

Toby: (voice over from 1.05 Reality Bites Me) "I saw you yesterday. At the school, talking to the guys who pranked my locker."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the Apple Rose Grille, Toby was sitting at his table.

Dakota stood next to him, working. "Yeah, well, 'talking' isn't the word I'd use for that. I just don't think you're as bad as everyone says you are."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the kitchen of the Fields House, Mara was sitting at the table, working on her laptop and drinking coffee. She got an email from an unknown address, frowning in confusion, opening the email.

I know something about little sister Emily that you don't know. Lil' sis got kissed.

--A

A emailed her back.

File attached.

Mara opened the attachment, seeing the pictures of Maya and Emily together from the party in 1.03 To Kill a Mocking Girl, seeing that they kissed, surprised.

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the kitchen of the Fields House, Mara was still sitting at the table, looking at the pictures of Emily and Maya on her laptop, listening to music.

Emily and Lucy walked in, laughing.

Mara hurriedly closed down the pictures. "Hey. What about you two? You got anybody that you like?"

"Not really," Lucy answered.

"I like somebody from school," Emily told them.

"Is it somebody that you think likes you back?" Mara asked. Emily smiled a small smile, not knowing what to say. "Sorry. You don't have to tell me anything. But, if there's someone in your lives who cares about you, then I'm happy for you. No matter who they are."

Emily and Lucy nodded, smiling a small smile.

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in Ezra's apartment, Aria and Ezra were making out.

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the bar, Ezra and Hardy were playing darts.

"You are so screwed," Hardy told him. "When this is all over, she's gonna get her diploma. You're gonna get a pink slip and an orange jumpsuit."

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in Ezra's apartment, Aria and Ezra were arguing.

"How many of your friends did you tell?" Ezra asked.

"I didn't," Aria answered.

"'Cause if A knows, I'm thinking B and C and everybody else does, too," Ezra told her.

Aria walked out.

Ezra closed the door behind her.

From 1.05 "Reality Bites Me", in the kitchen of the McCoy House, Jean and Dakota were talking.

"Kota, you can take a night off of work to go to a school dance with your friends, even if you don't have a date," Jean told her.

"Did you go to homecoming in high school?" Dakota asked.

"No," Jean answered. "I was abandoned by my date, and left at a restaurant. That's where I met your father."

"And now you're always fighting because of his problems," Dakota told her. "The problems of addiction and gambling and stealing, the reasons why we're always moving."

"We're not moving this time," Jean told her. "We can stay here."

"But do you really think he's going to change?" Dakota asked.

Jean sighed, brushing back Dakota's hair. "I want him to. But I'm done trying to change him. But no matter what happens, we're always going to have each other. Okay?"

Dakota nodded, smiling a small smile.

Day One

Morning - Montgomery House - Aria's Room

(Song:) Hold Me - St. Lola in the Fields

Aria was in her bed, depressed, listening to the music through headphones. She was flashing back through her memories of being with Ezra.

Dakota pulled the headphones out. "Hey."

(Song Ends)

"What are you doing?" Aria asked.

"An intervention," Dakota answered.

Emily was holding magazines. "We brought takeout and rag-mags."

Hanna sat at the foot of the bed. "But you cannot have any of those until you get out of these sweats."

Aria sat up. "Why? What's wrong with these?"

"Nothing," Spencer answered. "Except they're starting to graft to your skin."

"Well, they're comfy," Aria told them.

"Yeah, so are mom jeans and platform flip flops," Hanna told them.

"Plus, how are we gonna help you choose a homecoming dress if you don't try some on for us?" Emily asked.

"Oh, that's easy," Aria told them. "I'm not going."

"What do you mean, you're not going?" Hanna asked.

"Yeah, you can't just not go," Spencer told her.

"What are you doing instead?" Dakota asked.

"I don't know," Aria told them, flipping through the magazines. "I guess I'll just read these and then inhale a gallon of Chunky Monkey."

"Hey," Spencer told her. "Cutting yourself off from the rest of your life is not gonna help your parents. And besides, they might still work it out."

"Yeah, they're barely speaking to each other," Aria told them.

"People get angry, they blow up," Emily told them. "It doesn't mean it's over."

"Emily, they didn't blow up over her dad missing their anniversary," Hanna told her. "He slept with one of his students." She looked at Aria. "Sorry."

"I'm just saying, things could blow over on Friday," Emily told them. "And by Monday, all is forgiven. Somethings just take time."

"Yeah," Aria told them. "Maybe."

"Okay, so you're coming," Dakota told her, reaching down to grab Aria by her legs, trying to pull her up. "Come on."

Aria groaned, sitting up. "I'll think about it."

Aria stood, standing between Emily and Dakota.

"Well, if you're not coming, can you at least cast an absentee ballet?" Hanna asked. Dakota scoffed. "What? I need her vote."

"Hanna, stop all ready," Spencer told her. "You've got the homecoming queen locked down."

"Really?" Hanna asked. Spencer sat down. "You can rig the election?"

"Sorry, I have enough to do already, thanks," Spencer told them. Emily started to take the takeout out of the bag. "I'm ahead of the committee, half of which is out sick with the flu, so I'll be restocking the ice and refilling the humus bowl and trying to look cute."

"Why, who are you bringing?" Hanna asked.

"I'll be working most of the night, so no one, because I don't want anyone to think that I'm freezing them out," Spencer answered.

"Okay, moving on," Dakota told them. "Em, who're you gonna bring?"

"I think I"m gonna go stag," Emily told them.

Dakota smiled. "Thank you."

"I will, too," Aria told them.

"Ooh, Em, why don't you come with me?" Spencer asked. "And Aria, Dakota, you can go together."

"How did I just go from wearing mom jeans to being Samantha Rosen?" Aria asked.

Spencer laughed.

Dakota shrugged. "Who cares who anyone goes to this thing with? I mean, it's just a dance. You should bring someone you'll have fun with."

"I might wanna go with someone," Emily told them. "I just don't want people thinking it means more than it does."

"So, who's the mystery dude?" Aria asked.

Emily didn't answer. "I'm starving."

"Mm, me, too," Dakota told them.

They grabbed the boxes of food.

Dakota opened her fortune cookie, freezing.

"What's wrong?" Hanna asked. "Bad fortune?"

Dakota read aloud. "'Lions and tigers and bitches, oh, my. There's no place like homecoming. See you there. A.'"

Spencer reached for the bag of fortune cookies, taking out the cookies one by one, breaking them apart, reading the fortunes.

The other girls watched.

They all said the same thing.

A closeup of Lucy's brown eyes showed her applying mascara to her lashes.

The Pierces: (voice over) "Got a secret."

Dakota applied lipgloss to her lips with a small brush.

The Pierces: (voice over) "Can you keep it?"

Spencer fastened her black high heel.

The Pierces: (voice over) "Swear this one you'll save."

Hanna curled a piece of her blonde hair.

Madison painted her nails pink.

The Pierces: (voice over) "Better lock it."

Aria applied eyeshadow to her eye.

The Pierces: (voice over) "In your pocket."

Pen stood next to Alison's coffin, closing her eyes.

The Pierces: (voice over) "Taking this one."

Emily folded Alison's arms over her chest.

The Pierces: (voice over) "To the grave."

Mara, Lucy and Emily closed the coffin.

The Pierces: (voice over) "If I show you then I know you."

The girls were standing around Alison's coffin, all in black funeral dresses.

The Pierces: (voice over) "Won't tell what I said."

There was a closeup of Pen. She put a finger to her lips. "Shh."

The Pierces: (voice over) "'Cause two can keep a secret."

Pen disappeared.

A message appeared in the clouds that had been behind her.

Worlds Colliding (Pretty Little Liars)

The Pierces: (voice over) "If one of them is dead."

Day Two

Morning - Rosewood High School - Real Love Waits Club

Amber and Sean were enacting a scene.

"So, my parents are gonna be out of town this weekend and I thought maybe you could stay the night," Sean told her. "I've been doing a lot of thinking, and I'm ready... to o it."

"Sean, I'm not ready," Amber told him. "I made a commitment to myself. A commitment I want to honor."

The rest of the club was watching.

Hanna rolled her eyes.

The teacher looked at Amber and Sean. "Good. Nice work, you guys. Sit down." Sean and Amber took their seats on either side of Hanna. "May I have two other volunteers, please?" Hanna took a drink of coffee. "Hanna. You wanna give it a go?"

"No," Hanna answered. "See? I can say no."

"So can I," the teacher told her. "Get up. You can be the instigator." Sean and Hanna exchanged a look. "Lucas."

"Uh, no, I'm really more comfortable in an observational role during sexercise," Lucas told them.

"Come on, you two," the teacher told them. "Let's go."

Hanna and Lucas stood, facing each other.

Hanna sighed. "So, you want to come up to my room?"

"I can't do this," Lucas told her.

"But you make me so hot," Hanna told him.

"No, I mean, I can't do this with you," Lucas told her. He looked at the teacher. "Girls like her don't approach guys like me unless they have deep-seated self-esteem issues and a serious drinking problem."

"Just play along, Lucas," the teacher told him.

Lucas sighed. "This is embarrassing."

"Why?" the teacher asked.

"Because I don't need to know how to rebuff the advances of a genetic splice between Barbie and Shakira," Lucas answered. "It's just never gonna happen."

Hanna took that as a compliment, looking down.

"The point of this is to be prepared for the situation when it does arise," the teacher told them.

"Let's look at the facts," Lucas told him. "I have the upper-body strength of screech, and I spend my weekends playing Wii... alone. I think my virginity is pretty well safeguarded."

"Both of you, start again," the teacher told them.

Hanna looked at Lucas. "So, you wanna come up to my room?"

Lucas wanted to get out of this badly. "Yes."

Hanna chuckled.

Hallway

The bell rang.

Aria walked down the hallway.

Ezra walked out of his classroom.

Aria caught up to him. "Hey, can I talk to you?"

"No, I can't," Ezra answered. "I have a staff meeting."

"No, I just need--" Aria started.

"I'm late," Ezra told her, walking away, leaving.

Aria watched him go, sighing.

Cafeteria

Emily was getting something from the vending machine.

Maya walked closer.

"Hey," Emily told her.

"Hey," Maya told her. "Haven't seen you in a while."

Emily nodded in agreement. "Yeah. Thing have been kind of busy. Me, Pen, Aria, Dakota, Lucy, Spencer, Peyton, Madison and Hanna have been working on the memorial for Alison. Mara gave us the idea."

Maya nodded. "Oh, right."

Maya walked toward the vending machine to get a soda.

Emily turned to face her. "You going to homecoming?"

Maya turned to face her. "Um, I don't think so. Dance music isn't my thing. I'm not really gaga for Gaga." Emily smiled, chuckling. "So, maybe we should... try to catch up sometime?"

"Yeah," Emily answered. "We should. I have to go to class."

Emily walked away.

Maya watched her go.

Elsewhere

Hanna was sitting at a table.

Madison walked up to her, sitting down next to her.

"Way to sneak up on people, Maddie," Hanna told her.

"Sorry," Madison told her. "Hanna, can you get it today?"

"Get what?" Hanna asked.

"Jenna's file," Madison answered.

"No," Hanna answered. "They canceled my shift at work."

"Well, go in anyway," Madison told her. "It's a therapist's office. Pretend you're having a nervous breakdown."

"Well, if I lose the crown to Heather Perez, I won't have to pretend," Hanna told her.

"Hanna, I'm serious," Madison told her. "That file might be our only chance to find out what Jenna Marshall is A."

"Madison, I'll get it," Hanna told her. "Why the panic attack?"

"It's because I know about what really happened that night," Madison answered.

Hanna looked at her in surprise. "What?"

"Pen, Lucy, Peyton and I saw you, Dakota, Aria, Spencer, Emily and Alison at the Cavanaugh house the night that Jenna went blind, Hanna," Madison told her.

"Madison, why didn't you guys say anything?" Hanna asked.

"Because we didn't want to get you in trouble," Madison answered. "And you didn't tell us, so we knew that it was supposed to be kept a secret from us. And I just saw Toby, who's never had a date in his life, buy two tickets to homecoming."

"So, Jenna's coming, too," Hanna told her. "We got fortune cookies saying that A would see us there."

Mona walked closer, sitting across from them. "Hey, Hanna. Madison, is it true that you're going to homecoming stag?"

"Yes, I am," Madison answered.

"You don't have a date since what happened with Ben?" Mona asked.

"I don't want to talk about it," Madison told her.

Mona nodded. "Right. Ben's such a creep."

"Knock it off, Mona," Hanna told her.

"What?" Mona asked.

"Madison said that she doesn't want to talk about it," Hanna told her. "Can you go get me a fro-yo with sprinkles?"

Mona stood, walking away, leaving.

Madison looked at Hanna. "Wow. That was exactly the thing that I've been trying to avoid since Ben."

"Don't pay any attention to her," Hanna told her. "She's just insecure."

"Yeah, like a pit bull," Madison told her. "Why are you friends with her?"

"Once you get to know her, she's really funny," Hanna told her. "And she's always there for me, even if it's just to watch me try on shoes. Look, she's a good person. She just talks tough so people will forget what a geek she used to be." Toby walked up to the table by the window. Madison saw him, hitting Hanna on the leg. "Ow. Maddie, you need to chillax, or I need to start carrying a tranq gun."

"Shh," Madison told her.

Toby reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone, accidentally riding up his shirt on the side to reveal a tattoo.

901

Free at last

"What is that?" Hanna asked.

Toby lowered his shirt.

(Song:) Sheila Take a Bow - The Smiths

Dakota was standing at her locker, going through it.

Toby walked closer. "Hi."

"Hey," Dakota told him.

"I was about to come look for you," Toby told her.

"You were?" Dakota asked. "How come?"

"Well, I wanted to talk to you about something," Toby answered.

"Is it about those guys who pranked your locker?" Dakota asked. "Are they still messing with you?"

"No," Toby answered. "They backed off after you 'talked' to them. And I wanted to thank you for that, again, by the way."

Dakota smirked. "You're welcome."

Toby hesitated. "Do you want to hang out tomorrow?"

"Um, I would, but I can't," Dakota told him. "I'm going with my friends to homecoming."

"That's too bad," Toby told her, pulling out two tickets. "I was hoping maybe you'd go with me."

"To homecoming?" Dakota asked in surprise. "Uh... I didn't think that was your scene."

"I have a scene?" Toby asked. "I didn't think listening to the Smiths alone in my room was a scene."

They chuckled.

"You know what I mean," Dakota told him.

"I think what you mean is that you don't want to go with me," Toby told her.

"No, it's not that," Dakota told him. "It's just... I would've thought you think homecoming is lame."

"It is pretty lame, but... you're not," Toby told her.

Dakota thought for a long moment, nodding. "Okay."

Toby was surprised that she said yes. "So... I'll pick you up at 9:00."

Dakota nodded in amusement. "Sure. But it starts at 8:00."

Toby smirked. "Lame."

Toby walked away, leaving.

Dakota sighed.

Gym

(Song:) Genius of Fun - Love Grenades

The committee was getting ready for the dance tomorrow night.

Peyton was painting a post.

Alex walked toward her. "Hey. Need any help?"

"You're a little early," Peyton told him. "The dance doesn't start for 27 hours."

"But I wanted to do a dry run, test out the route, time myself door-to-door," Alex told her. Peyton looked at him curiously. "I'm joking." Peyton laughed. "I'm about to buy a suit, and I wanted to know what color your dress is so we can match."

Peyton smiled. "Don't bother. Look, I'll match my outfit to yours. Just wear whatever you have."

"Okay, we can't both show up in jeans and a T-shirt," Alex told her.

"You sure that you want to?" Peyton asked.

"Yes, I want to," Alex answered. "It's a good excuse to buy a suit, and, uh... here."

Alex took out money, holding it toward her.

"What's that for?" Peyton asked.

"The tickets," Alex answered.

"No, don't worry about it," Peyton told him. "This is my treat. It's just... I know how hard you work. I don't want you to spend your money on some stupid dance."

"Well, tough luck, 'cause I want to," Alex told her, reaching around her to put the money into her back pocket.

They smiled.

"I'm wearing a light blue strapless dress," Peyton told him.

"Can't wait to see you in it," Alex told her.

They smiled.

"See you tomorrow," Peyton told him.

Alex nodded. "See you tomorrow."

Alex walked away, leaving.

Peyton smiled, looking around.

Pen was at her locker, putting her books away, closing her locker, revealing Evan leaning against the lockers on the other side, jumping. "God. Evan, don't do that."

Evan smirked, chuckling. "Sorry. I just wanted to ask you something that's not CD mix or school project related."

Pen looked at him in amusement, chuckling. "I think I know where this is going, but let's see if you can surprise me anyway, Evan."

"Okay," Evan told her. "Word on the street is that Pen DiLaurentis was planning on going to homecoming alone, but she never ever goes anywhere alone."

"Mm, that's true, Evan Montgomery," Pen told him.

"And we've been hanging out a lot since you've been back," Evan told her. "I was wondering if you'd like to go to homecoming with me."

Pen smiled. "I was wondering when you were gonna ask, Evan. Didn't think that you would wait until the day before. But then again, it doesn't surprise me."

"So, is that a yes?" Evan asked.

"No," Pen answered. Evan looked at her curiously. Pen smiled. "It's a hell yes."

They smiled, chuckling.

"Well, that was easier than I thought it would be," Evan told her.

"Well, we've waited long enough, right, Evan?" Pen asked.

Evan nodded, smiling a small smile. "Right. I'll see you there."

Pen smiled, tilting her head. "Can't wait."

Evan walked away.

Pen watched him go, smiling.

Outside

Jenna was sitting on a stone bench outside.

Toby walked toward her. "Hey. Sorry I'm late."

"Were you talking to her?" Jenna asked.

"Who?" Toby asked.

"Dakota," Jenna answered. Toby didn't answer. Jenna stood. "Why are you doing this?"

"What are you talking about?" Toby asked.

Jenna scoffed. "You know you're only fooling yourself, right? I mean, once she finds out the truth about you, she'll hate you."

"Who's gonna tell her?" Toby asked.

Jenna didn't answer, holding her hand toward Toby.

Toby sighed, walking closer.

Jenna held his arm for him to guide the way.

Fields House - Outside

Mara was taking the trash out.

Maya was getting out of her car across the street.

Mara thought for a moment, walking closer. "Hey, Maya."

Maya looked at her, smiling. "Mara. Hi."

Mara looked at the violin on her back. "I didn't know that you were in a band."

"Jazz band," Maya told her. "I don't march, Mara. Saying march and Mara in the same sentence is weird, but a funny kind of weird, Mara."

Mara chuckled. "Nice. Hey, the alumni for the school have a former homecoming queen crown the night's winner for the dance, and they picked me this year."

Maya smirked in amusement. "Mara, you were a homecoming queen?"

"I was a little edgy in teenage years, so I did a lot of things on bets," Mara told her. "This being one of them." Maya smiled. "Will I see you there?"

"I don't think so," Maya told her.

"Too bad," Mara told her. "I know Emily really wanted you to come. Lucy told me that Emily wanted you to come, actually, I think."

Maya looked at her in surprise. "Oh. Mara, um... I'll think about it."

"You should," Mara told her. "I'm sure it'll be fun."

Maya smiled. "Then I guess I'll see you there. All the Fields sisters, huh, Mara? You, Emily, Lucy?"

"And all the Hastings," Mara answered. "Spencer and Peyton's older sister is chaperoning."

Maya chuckled. "That should be fun. Right, Mara?"

Mara smiled. "Yeah. I'll see you."

Mara walked away toward her house.

Maya smiled.

Dentist Office - Hallway

Hanna was walking through the hallway, wearing scrubs, walking toward the therapist door.

A man opened the door, looking at the guard. "Careful with that. Are you blind?" He looked at Hanna. "Can we help you?"

The two men were moving boxes.

"What are you guys doing?" Hanna asked.

"Baking a cake," the man told her sarcastically, gesturing to the paint on the floor.

"Well, are you gonna be done soon?" Hanna asked.

"No," the man answered.

Hanna pushed the lock on the door so that it wouldn't lock when they closed the door, walking out, leaving.

Montgomery House - Aria's Room

Spencer, Aria and Hanna were talking.

"How long did you wait?" Spencer asked.

"I finally left when Chewy's five-o-clock shadow turned into a beard," Hanna told them.

"Did you tell Madison?" Aria asked.

"Relax," Hanna told them. "I rigged the door so we can get back inside later this weekend. Hey, do you have anything a little less hippie and a little more bourgie?"

"Whatever's in there is what I have," Aria told her.

"Okay, so, what do you think?" Hanna asked, showing them a hoop earring. "'It's an honor just to be nominated'." She showed them a chandelier dangly earring. "Or 'It's about time. Where's my throne?'"

"They both look good," Spencer told her.

Aria looked down.

Hanna stood, walking closer. "Aria, I know what you're going through. When my parents were fighting, I barely left my room. I wore my headphones and blasted Jay-Z to drown them out. It got to the point where I'd only take them off to shower. Like, the worst part is now, waiting."

"Which is why you need to get out of the house," Spencer told her. "We will have an amazing time at the dance, and I know someone who has a huge crush on you."

"Who?" Aria asked.

"Chris Buzzini," Spencer answered.

"I thought he was bringing Lisa," Aria told them.

"He is, but he told me he'd rather take you," Spencer told her. "He just thinks you're not into him."

"Well, I'm--I'm not," Aria told them.

"So who are you into?" Hanna asked. Aria didn't answer, looking down. "Oh, my gosh, I knew it. You're already seeing someone."

Aria looked up. "No."

"Yes," Hanna told her. "You met someone when you were living in Iceland. What's his name?"

 Aria looked down.

"Forget it," Spencer told her. "We probably can't pronounce it, anyways. Look, Aria, this guy may be cute and all, but that booty call is a long distance. It's time to say goodbye to your Viking and move on. You're in two completely different places right now."

"Maybe you're right," Aria told her.

"Of course I am," Spencer told her.

Hanna showed them two dresses. "So, what are you gonna wear?" She showed them a red dress with short sleeves. "'The bell jar'." She showed them a sparkly black spaghetti strapped dress. "Or 'Let's get this party started'?"

They smiled.

Day Three

Night - Rosewood High School - Gym - Homecoming Dance

(Song:) Worry About You - 2 AM Club

Everyone was here, dressed up and having a good time.

Lucy walked in to make the latest appearance.

Every one else was already here.

Lucy smiled, walking down the steps toward the dance floor, walking toward her friends.

Pen, Evan, Peyton, Alex and Madison were waiting.

"Oh, there she is," Pen told them, smiling. "Lucy."

"I'm ready to have a fantastic time," Lucy told them.

"And you're without a date, like me," Madison told her. "So sorry, Lucy."

"Whatever," Pen told them. "You guys can share my date. Right, Evan?"

"Yeah, I have no problem with that," Evan told them.

"Yeah, and mine," Peyton told them, turning to Alex.

Alex nodded in agreement. "Yeah."

Lucy offered her hand to Alex. "Hey, I'm Lucy."

Alex shook it. "Alex. Nice to meet you."

"You, too," Lucy told him.

Peyton saw Melissa across the room, letting her smile fall, turning to Alex. "Um, will you excuse me for just one sec?"

"Yeah, sure," Alex answered.

Peyton sighed. "Lucy, talk to him."

Lucy nodded in agreement. "Yeah."

Peyton walked away toward Melissa. "What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you, too, sis," Melissa told her.

"No, seriously, what are you doing here?" Peyton asked.

"I'm chaperoning," Melissa answered. "I wanted to be here for my little sisters."

Peyton smiled nervously. "Great."

Peyton turned away.

"Oh, by the way..." Melissa trailed off. Peyton turned to face her. "They posted the winning Golden Orchid essays online, and I had a chance to read yours. Or, should I say, mine?"

"Look, I've already told Mom and Dad, and they think a retraction would be more of an embarrassment for us," Peyton told her. "It was a really stupid thing to do, and I'm so sorry."

"I get why you would do it," Melissa told her. "You've always felt like an outsider in this family because you have to work so much harder than the rest of us to get to where we are. You and Spencer, always taking what is mine."

"I'm sorry," Peyton told her.

They heard a girl's voice. "Oh, my God, Melissa."

Melissa turned to face her. "Hey, Trish."

Melissa and Trish walked away.

Peyton watched them go, sighing.

Hanna and Mona were standing together, watching other people.

"Ugh, that's awful," Mona told her.

"Is that Becky Newman?" Hanna asked.

"It looks like her hair got in a fight with her face and they both lost," Mona told her.

Lucas stood nearby, taking a picture of Hanna and Mona. "Yearbook pictures. Hey."

Hanna smiled. "Hey. Nice bowtie."

"Oh, thanks," Lucas told her. "It's my grandpa's." He looked at Mona. "Hey. I'm Lucas."

"Great," Mona told him. "Can you be Lucas over there?"

Lucas looked down. "Um... I'll see you around, Hanna."

"Yeah, see you around," Hanna told him. "Have fun." Lucas nodded, walking away. Hanna turned to Mona. "Rude much?"

"Am I in a parallel universe, or did you just engage in conversation with Hermie?" Mona asked. "Isn't that what Alison called him?"

"He is not a hermaphrodite, okay?" Hanna asked. "He's a nice guy. Saying hi to him is not a crime."

"It should be," Mona told her. "You didn't bust your ass to become Rosewood's 'it girl' just to make chit-chat with shim." Hanna gave her an annoyed look. "If you and I start slipping up, we're gonna be right back at the bottom again."

"Yeah, well, I'm starting to think I've lost a few things on the climb up," Hanna told her.

"Look, you can go kamikaze if you want, but I will cut your rip cord before I let you drag me down with you," Mona told her, walking away.

Hanna ate a piece of chocolate.

Peyton, Spencer and Alex were talking, smiling.

Melissa walked up to them, looking at Alex. "Hi. I'm Melissa, Peyton and Spencer's older sister."

Alex shook her hand. "Alex. Nice to meet you."

"We've met, at the club," Melissa told him. "Are you on the homecoming committee, as well?"

"Alex doesn't go here," Peyton told her. "He goes to school across town."

"Where do you go?" Melissa asked.

"PS 187 on Elmhurst," Alex answered.

"You wouldn't have heard of it, Melissa," Spencer told her. "It's not in the same zip code as the Prada outlet."

Mara walked up to them. "Spencer, catering crisis."

"Okay," Spencer told her. "Thanks for letting me know, Mara."

Mara nodded. "Let's go."

"Hi, Mara," Peyton told her.

"Bye, Peyton," Mara told her.

Melissa smirked, waving. "Bye, Mara."

Mara and Spencer walked away.

(Song:) Same Night Sky - 2 AM Club

Aria and Ezra were working.

Ezra was trying to ignore her the best he could.

"I didn't plan this," Aria told him.

"I already said I believe you," Ezra told her.

"Yeah, but you don't," Aria told him.

"I do," Ezra told her. "Can you hand me those, please?"

Aria handed him a tub of bean bags, walking closer. "Hey, nice haircut."

"Thanks," Ezra told her.

A couple walked up to the tent, paying.

Ezra handed them the bean bags.

Aria spun the wheel.

The guy tossed three bags.

"Great," Ezra told him. "Well done."

Ezra handed him a stuffed alligator.

The guy handed the animal to the girl.

They walked away.

Aria walked toward Ezra. "I didn't tell anyone about us."

"Let's just drop this, okay?" Ezra asked. "I'm just grateful it ended before one of us got seriously hurt."

"Too late for that," Aria told him. "It wasn't a friend who sent that text."

Another couple walked up.

Aria walked toward the wheel.

The girl handed over tickets.

Ezra handed them bean bags.

Aria spun the wheel.

The girl tossed the bags.

"Oh, that's all right," Ezra told her. "You just missed it, but there you go." He handed her a small stuffed puppy. "Have a good one, rest of your night." The couple walked away. Ezra turned to Aria. "So who's A?"

"It's someone who's messing with me," Aria answered.

"Aria, why would someone want to mess with you?" Ezra asked.

Aria sighed, looking down. "Because last summer..." She looked toward Hanna, Emily and Spencer, shaking her head, looking at Ezra. "I don't know. It's complicated."

A teacher walked up to them. "If you've had enough, I'd be happy to relieve you."

"Oh, thanks, Ms. Welch," Ezra told her. "I'm fine."

Welch nodded to Aria. "I was talking to her."

"Oh, I've had enough," Aria told them, walking away.

Ezra turned to the two waiting couples. "So, who's up?"

Outside

Dakota and Toby approached the school.

"You know, they're showing a Fritz Lang double feature at Rosewood Cinema tonight," Toby told her. "If we leave now, we'll only miss the credits."

Dakota chuckled. "I... might be a little overdressed."

"This may sound stupid, but I've never been to one of these things before," Toby told her.

"What are you so nervous about?" Dakota asked. "Meeting up with Aria, Pen, Lucy, Emily, Spencer, Peyton, Hanna and Madison?"

"Who think I'm a freak," Toby told her.

Dakota shook her head. "Not all of them. Lucy and Emily especially. Since you grew up down the street from Mara, Lucy and Emily. I mean, they'll get over it because they want me to be happy. It's just a party. You know, if we get hungry, we get some chips, have some punch..."

Toby smirked. "Punch, really? Are we gonna Jitterbug, too?"

"You don't have to dance," Dakota told him.

"Good, 'cause I--I don't," Toby told her.

Dakota chuckled. "Okay, so how about you stand there and do this..." She waved her hands slightly and moved her feet slightly. Toby mimicked her movements. "And I'll dance around you."

"I think I'd rather drink the punch," Toby told her.

They laughed, walking inside.

Hanna, Emily, Spencer and Aria were talking.

Emily looked at Aria. "Hey, that was a quick shift. You okay?"

Aria shook her head. "No. My claustrophobia kicked in. Can you find someone to take my place?"

"Yeah," Spencer answered. "Alone in a dark booth with Fitz? It's, like, every freshman girl's dream."

Maya walked closer. "Hey, Emily."

Emily was surprised to see her. "Hi."

"Hey," Hanna told her.

"What are you doing here?" Emily asked. "I mean, I thought you said you weren't gonna come."

"I know," Maya told her. "But your sister convinced me otherwise."

"Who, Lucy?" Emily asked.

"No, Mara," Maya answered.

They looked toward where Mara was chatting with chaperones.

Emily frowned in confusion. "Why would Mara do that?"

"Hey, have you guys seen Dakota?" Spencer asked.

"No," Hanna answered. "I was just about to text her."

Hanna reached into her bag.

Aria looked toward the door in shock. "Don't bother."

Toby and Dakota walked in.

Toby and Dakota walked toward her friends.

"Hey, guys," Dakota told them.

The girls only looked at Toby.

Toby looked at Dakota. "I'll go get us some drinks."

Dakota nodded.

Toby walked away.

Peyton, Pen, Madison and Lucy walked up to the five girls.

Madison looked at Dakota. "You're here with Toby?"

"Either you've got some genius plan of sleeping with the enemy, or you have lost your mind," Pen told her.

"Madison, Pen, what's the big deal?" Emily asked.

"You don't even know him," Dakota told them.

"What is there to know?" Spencer asked. "Who else could've helped Jenna? He has every reason to hate us."

"Well, he doesn't," Dakota told them.

"Dakota, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a freaking duck," Hanna told her.

Lucy scoffed. "Wow. I'd thought at least someone would understand."

Aria sighed. "Emily, Lucy, I know why you two don't want to think of him as the bad guy, because he lives right down the street from you and Mara and you know him better than any of us. But what has gotten into you, Dakota?"

"I just don't think he's as bad as everyone makes him out to be," Dakota told them. "Including all of you."

Dakota walked away.

Emily looked toward Mara, looking at the others. "Just give Dakota some space. She'll calm down. I got to ask Mara something."

Emily walked away.

Alex was looking at a car that could be won.

Melissa walked toward him. "So, did you buy a raffle ticket yet?"

Alex turned to face her. "Not yet."

"Where's Peyton?" Melissa asked. "Did she leave you all alone?"

"It's cool," Alex told her. "I like people-watching."

"I'm glad to hear that," Melissa told him. "I mean, most guys would be uncomfortable being... used like this, but if you're not, then no one's getting hurt."

"What are you talking about?" Alex asked.

"I'm talking about Peyton, you know, dating you to piss off our dad," Melissa told him. "She's always trying something new to make him crazy." Alex looked hurt. Melissa walked around him toward the car, smirking, turning back to him. "You really should buy a ticket. That is a beautiful car."

The other girls were watching Toby and Dakota.

"Did I miss something?" Lucy asked. "When did she start hanging out with Toby?"

"I have no idea," Aria told them. "Aside from her serving him food and drinks at the Grille, I've never even seen her talk to him. Speaking of, Pen, since when are you into Evan?"

Pen opened her mouth to speak, but no sound came out.

Sean, Alex and Evan walked closer.

"There you are," Sean told them. "You keep disappearing on us."

"Yeah, we... had to... get ice," Hanna told them.

Alex looked at Peyton. "Hey, wanna dance?"

Peyton smiled. "Let's do it."

Peyton and Alex walked toward the dance floor, along with Sean and Hanna.

Evan offered his arm to Pen. "You wanna dance, Pen?"

Pen smiled, taking his arm. "I thought you'd never ask, Evan."

They walked toward the dance floor, starting to dance.

Madison was watching Toby and Dakota, realizing something, walking toward Aria and Spencer. "Can you guys come here?" They walked away to talk alone. "I figured out what Toby's tattoo means."

"What?" Aria asked.

"901 free at last'?" Madison asked. "It's September 1st."

"That's the day Ali disappeared," Spencer told them.

They nodded.

"Hanna, you've gotta get that file," Aria told her.

Hanna sighed. "Tonight?"

"Dakota, Emily and Lucy are not going to believe us without proof," Spencer told them. "Dakota could be walking into a trap."

"Could we do it after they announce the homecoming queen?" Hanna asked. "Please?" They gave her a look. "Okay, fine. Fine. I'll get it. Keep an eye on Dakota until I get the file. Madison, keep an eye on Sean."

"What?" Madison asked.

"I can't exactly tell him where I'm going," Hanna told her. "Madison, if I make something up, he'll want to come with me. Just keep him busy."

"How am I supposed to do that?" Madison asked.

"I don't know," Hanna told her. "Just figure it out, Madison."

Hanna walked away, leaving.

The other girls returned to the dance.

(Song:) Make You Mine - 2 AM Club

Peyton and Alex finished their dance.

"You wanna go to the fortune teller?" Alex asked.

"Yeah, sure," Peyton answered. "It might be kind of fun."

They walked toward the fortune teller.

Madison walked up to Sean. "Sean, hey."

"Hey," Sean told her. "Where's Hanna?"

"Oh, she's with Spencer, getting some more ice," Madison told him.

"More?" Sean repeated. "Is there a heat wave going on in here I don't know about?"

"Oh, right," Madison told him. "Right, she actually said that there was... uh, a crisis with the band or... do you want some food?"

Hanna was pacing, on the phone. "Hi, could I get a cab to Rosewood High School, please? Great. Thanks." Hanna hung up. Lucas walked outside. "Hey."

"The homecoming queen is leaving?" Lucas asked.

"Nominee," Hanna corrected. "And yeah, sort of."

"Isn't that kind of like Han Solo abandoning 'The Millennium Falcon'?" Lucas asked.

"Uh, honestly, I have no idea," Hanna told him. "Why are you leaving?"

"Got enough photos for the yearbook," Lucas answered.

"You came just to take photos?" Hanna asked.

"Yeah," Lucas answered. "And to cast my vote for you."

Hanna smiled.

Lucas started to walk away.

Hanna turned after him. "Listen, um, I left a check for the band at the office where I work. Would you mind driving me there and back?"

"It's either that or watch the new 'Hoarders' episode with my parents, so yeah," Lucas answered. He started to take off his jacket. "Here. Uh, you look cold."

Hanna took the jacket. "Thank you. Let's go."

They walked away.

Alex and Peyton were sitting with the fortune teller, Sandy

"There's a lot of anxiety in these cards," Sandy told her. "Are you a worrier?"

"Yeah, I guess so," Peyton answered.

"This indicates a journey," Sandy told her. "It's unclear whether it's a journey from the past or in the future, but I'm seeing an image. You could be taking care of someone. They could be... hurt."

"What else do they say?" Peyton asked.

Sandy flipped the cards.

Lucy and Emily walked toward her older sister.

"Mara," Lucy told her.

Mara smiled. "Hey, Lucy. Emily."

"You asked Maya to come here, Mara," Emily told her. "Why?"

"For you, Emily," Mara answered.

"What?" Emily asked. "Mara, why would you ask her to come for me?"

Mara sighed. "I got an email."

"An email?" Lucy repeated.

"Yeah," Mara answered. "It was an unknown address, but it was signed from A."

Lucy looked at her worriedly. "What did it say?"

"It didn't say much of anything, but it had pictures, Lucy," Mara told her. "Of Emily and Maya."

Emily realized what the pictures had been of. "Oh, my God."

Mara took her hands in her own. "Emily, it's okay. I meant what I said the other night. About me being okay with whoever you're with as long as you're happy."

Lucy looked at Mara in surprise. "Mara... Emily's with Maya?"

"Not exactly," Emily answered. "It's... complicated, Lucy."

"It always is, Emily," Mara told her. "But I just want you know that it's okay. There's nothing wrong with you. I'm just trying to help you stop hiding it."

Emily sighed heavily. "I'm not hiding anything, Mara."

"Emily, look me in the eye and tell me that you have no feelings for Maya," Mara told her.

Emily looked away.

Lucy and Mara looked at her knowingly, rubbing her arms comfortingly.

Sean and Madison were talking.

"Madison, this is typical Hanna," Sean told her. "She makes a big deal about coming to this thing together, and then she ditches me."

They started to dance to the upbeat song.

Fortune Teller's Booth

Sandy, Alex and Peyton were still at the table.

Sandy pointed at a card. "Now, this card is reversed. It indicates something from which you are running away." Pen and Evan were dancing in the crowd. Aria was watching them, smiling a small smile at them being happy. "The lovers is a joyful card, but paired with judgment, it means there's something wrong with this couple. It's a bad match. Here, there's darkness in him, maybe even violence or vengeance."

(Song Ends)

Sandy flipped over a card.

It had a message with a lipstick print.

Kiss bye bye to a BFF.

Sandy frowned in confusion. "Where did this come from?"

Peyton looked toward the balloon dart game to see that Toby and Dakota were gone. She looked around worriedly.

Ezra walked toward his classroom.

Aria followed him. "Ezra, wait." Ezra turned to face her. "Just let me talk for a second, please." Aria walked closer, stopping some distance away. "I don't want to argue or try to convince you of anything... I know it's over. I know that. But... I just can't stand the idea of you walking around and hating me."

"Hate you?" Ezra repeated. "The only person I hate right now is myself for asking too much of you. Seeing you out there tonight, out on the dance floor, having fun with guys your own age, not sneaking around and holing up with me in my apartment to watch videos and eat one of the three things I can actually cook? Because..." He sighed. "Because I can't take you to the movies. I can't take you out to a nice restaurant, and for the record..." He walked closer, shaking his head. "I could never hate you. I figured you'd be here tonight. The new haircut wasn't to impress Ms. Welch. I gotta go."

Ezra walked away.

Rosewood High School - Cafeteria

Dakota walked into the empty lunch room.

A man walked closer.

Dakota turned to face him, uneasy. "Aren't you a little old to be at a high school homecoming?"

"Not too old to sit in a round with your dad," the man answered.

Dakota froze, looking at him in surprise. "What did you just say?"

The man stepped closer, shaking his head. "Yeah, I'm not the kind of guy that repeats myself."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Dakota told him, trying to step around him.

The man stepped in her way. "I think you do."

Dakota tried to walk away.

The man grabbed her arm tightly to stop her.

"Let me go or I'll scream," Dakota told him angrily.

"Oh, no, don't do that," the man told her sarcastically, tauntingly. "I just need to know where I can find your dad."

"Let me go," Dakota told him.

The man tightened his hold on her arm, making her groan in pain.

Toby walked in. "Let her go."

The man let Dakota go, giving them a mocking look, turning to Dakota. "Tell your father we're looking for him."

The man walked out, leaving.

Dakota turned to Toby. "Hey."

"Are you okay?" Toby asked.

Dakota nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." She sighed, tilting her head back. "God." She raised her head. "You didn't hear him, did you?" Toby didn't answer. "There's something that you don't understand about that."

"You don't have to explain to me," Toby told her. "I get it. You have a dad that does things that does worse than making you work your ass off at two different jobs." Dakota looked down, not really knowing how she felt about someone knowing the truth about that. "And it does more. It can put you in danger."

Dakota sighed, nodding. "Yeah, I know."

"Is that why you move a lot?" Toby asked.

Dakota looked up, barely nodding. "Yeah."

There was a long moment of silence.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Toby asked.

Dakota nodded, sighing. "Yeah. I'll be okay."

There was shouting from partiers outside.

"Why don't we go upstairs to the chem lab?" Toby asked. "It's quiet up there."

Toby offered his hand.

Dakota took it.

They walked out of the room.

Peyton was looking around worriedly.

Alex was with her. "What's going on? You seem distracted."

Peyton's phone rang. She pulled it out. "I'm sorry. I promise, this is the last time."

"The phone's not the problem," Alex told her. "Maybe my work for the night is done."

"What do you mean?" Peyton asked.

"Just go ahead," Alex told her. "Answer it."

"I'm sorry," Peyton told him. "I'll just be a minute." She turned away, answering. "What is it?"

Hanna was on the other line, in the therapist room. "Peyton, hey. Spencer, Emily, Lucy, Aria, Dakota, Madison and Pen are not answering their phones."

"Spencer, Emily, Lucy and Aria all looking for Dakota and Madison and Pen are having a good time with Sean and Evan," Peyton told her. "Spencer, Emily, Lucy and Aria even asked Mara for help to find Dakota."

"Find Dakota?" Hanna repeated.

"What did you find?" Peyton asked.

"I'm looking through the entire 'M' section, and there's no Jenna Marshall," Hanna told her.

"Well, check under Cavanaugh," Peyton told her. "She's Toby's stepsister. Maybe his dad adopted her."

"Hey, my phone's dying," Hanna told her. "What did you say?"

"I said check under Cavanaugh," Peyton answered.

"But what if the--" Hanna started, cutting herself off when her phone died, sighing.

"Hanna?" Peyton asked, sighing, hanging up, turning around to see that Alex was gone.

Spencer walked up to her. "Hey, Peyton, where's Alex?"

Melissa walked closer smugly. "He left."

"What do you mean?" Spencer asked.

"He left," Melissa answered. "Do you need me to Tweet it to you?"

"What did you say to him?" Peyton asked.

"I didn't have to say much, Peyton," Melissa told her. "You screwed up this one all by yourself."

Melissa walked away, leaving.

Spencer turned to Peyton. "She's trying to ruin our night by driving a wedge between you and Alex and making me work all night, Peyton."

Peyton sighed. "Well, it's working, Spencer."

Toby and Dakota walked into the dark lab.

"It's so weird to be here at night," Dakota told him.

"Wanna talk more about what happened?" Toby asked.

Dakota turned to face him. "Not really."

"Was this the first time something's like this happened?" Toby asked. "When someone that knows your dad comes to you?"

"No," Dakota answered. "But it's the first time they've gotten that rough."

"I understand," Toby told her.

Dakota shook her head in confusion. "Why do you like me?"

"What?" Toby asked.

"Why are you so nice to me when--when you know what me, Alison, Spencer, Emily, Aria and Hanna did?" Dakota asked. "When you know that Pen, Madison, Lucy and Peyton have known all this time but they didn't say anything to anyone because they wanted to protect us?"

"I guess it's because I've also done things that I'm not proud of," Toby answered. "We've all got secrets, Dakota."

Toby closed the door.

Mara was onstage, talking to the crowd through a mic. "And don't forget to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a brand-new Toyota Corolla. That is one sweet ride." Hanna walked in, looking at Aria, Spencer, Emily, Pen, Lucy, Peyton and Madison, gesturing for them to follow her. "And now, for the reason we're all here. I can still remember the feeling of joy I had when, as a Rosewood student, I heard my name called." The girls walked toward Hanna. They walked out. "Please welcome your new homecoming king and queen, Sean Ackard and Hanna Marin." There was cheers and applause. Sean walked onto the stage alone. Mara put the crown on his head, smiling. They realized Hanna wasn't coming. "Sean Ackard and Hanna Marin."

They were confused as to where Hanna was.

"Is that Jenna's file?" Lucy asked.

"No," Hanna answered. "I got Toby's. Turns out Jenna wasn't the patient. The therapist had her come in for one session to see how she felt about Toby coming back home."

"Oh, my God," Emily told them. "Well, what else does it say?"

"Well, the dates prove he wasn't away at school when Ali disappeared," Hanna told them. "He was still here in Rosewood."

Pen took the file from Hanna to see for herself.

"What else?" Madison asked.

"See for yourself," Hanna told them.

Pen read from the file. "Session 12, August 15th."

Toby and Alison were talking.

"Think I didn't see what was going on in there?" Alison asked.

"It's not what it looked like," Toby told her.

"Maybe not to you," Alison told him.

"What were you doing here, anyway?" Toby asked. "What the hell did I ever do to you?"

"You've been peeping in my window for years," Alison told him.

"I never looked in your window," Toby told her.

"Well, I've looked in yours, and we're not taking the blame for this," Alison told him.

"Oh, yes, you are," Toby told her.

"No, not unless you want the entire world to know how close you are with your stepsister," Alison told him. "You talk, and I'll make sure everybody knows you've been doing it with her."

Night - Rosewood High School - Room

The girls, except Dakota, were talking.

"So that's what Ali had on him?" Madison asked.

"It's enough to want her dead," Hanna told them.

Pen was worried. "Dakota."

Pen took out her phone, calling her.

Dakota and Toby were still in the dark lab.

Dakota's phone was ringing. She pulled it out.

Pen looked at the other girls. "She's not picking up."

"Text her," Lucy told her.

"We have to find her," Emily told them. "Come on."

Chemistry Lab

Toby and Dakota were in the dark lab.

"What are you talking about?" Dakota asked.

"I'm just trying to be honest," Toby told her.

Dakota's phone beeped. She looked at the text from Pen.

You're with Ali's killer! We have proof.

"Who's that from?" Toby asked. "Is that from one of your friends?"

"I've gotta go," Dakota told him.

"Why?" Toby asked. "Wait."

"No, I've gotta go," Dakota told him, backing away.

Toby grabbed her arm to stop her. "Wait. Just hear me out."

"Let go!" Dakota told him, pushing him back into a shelf of containers, making them shatter and him fall to the floor.

Toby stood. He was bleeding on the cheek, wiping the blood away, exposing the tattoo on his side.

Dakota came to the same conclusion about the tattoo as the other girls did, knocking over a chair, running out, leaving.

Toby followed her. "Dakota, wait!"

A man helped steady her. "Hey, you okay?"

Dakota looked toward the school, breathing heavily. "Yeah. I just need to get away from here."

The man from inside who had cornered Dakota before Toby told him to go away walked toward them. "Good. 'Cause I think we can help you with that."

Dakota looked at Man 1 angrily, backing away.

Man 2 put a cloth of chloroform over her mouth, making her breathe it in until she fell unconscious so they could take her away.

The figure in black, A, spray painted blue over the last 8, dipping a paint brush into white paint, painting a 7 as the last digit, now making the number 7987.
