chapter 19 - A Person of Interest
Outfits in the external link
From 1.17 "Thee New Normal", in Emily's car, Paige suddenly put a hand on Emily's head, leaning closer to kiss her, surprising her so much she didn't even close her eyes.
Lucy: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (Pretty Little Liars)"
Paige pulled away, looking scared. "Don't tell."
From 1.18 "The Badass Seed", in Dakota's bathroom, shower, Caleb turned to face Dakota in amusement. Dakota put a finger over his lips, and a finger over her own to tell him to be quiet.
Caleb smirked. "You want to share a towel, too?"
From 1.17 "The New Normal", at the Rosewood town limits, Toby and Spencer were talking.
"2-1-4," Toby told her.
"It could be anything," Spencer told him. "A house number, an area code."
"We have to figure it out, for both our sakes," Toby told her.
From 1.18 "The Badass Seed", in the school, Jenna was talking to Mara. "I would like to compose the music for the play."
"Sure," Mara told her. "That'd be great."
From 1.18 "The Badass Seed", in the school courtyard, Pen and Evan saw Ian and Jenna standing together.
"I didn't even know they knew each other," Evan told her. They watched as Ian handed a green bad to Jenna. "What is that? What did he just give her?"
From 1.14 "Careful What U Wish 4", in the Hasting House, the girls were watching the video sent to them by A.
Alison was on the video. "I know you want to kiss me."
Alison took the camera, turning it to Ian. The girls gasped in shock.
From 1.18 "The Badass Seed", in the school auditorium, the girls were looking at the trophy.
"Is that blood?" Aria asked.
"You think that's what Ian used to kill Alison?" Lucy asked.
From 1.18 "The Badass Seed", in the courtyard, the girls were sitting at two tables.
Detective Beyer stood in front of them. "Which one of you found the trophy? It's not human blood."
"Why would there--" Hanna started.
"Let's save our questions for the precinct," Beyer told them. "Follow me."
The girls stood, following Beyer.

Same Day - Day One
Morning - Rosewood Police Station - Interrogation
The girls were all being questioned one at a time.
Spencer was at the table. "The video was sent to us by an anonymous source."
Emily was at the table. "Probably the same person who sent it to you."
Hanna was at the table. "It was loaded onto Dakota's laptop."
Aria was at the table. "This time, we saw who Alison was talking to."
Dakota was at the table. "It was Ian."
Pen was at the table, looking upset. "He told her to come closer, and she did."
Peyton was at the table. "Ian and Alison were together the weekend before she went missing."
Lucy sat at the table. "Pen called Hilton Head."
Madison sat at the table. "It was Pen... who talked to the desk clerk."
Hanna sat at the table. "Ian lied to Spencer and Peyton."
Dakota sat at the table. "He stayed at Hilton Head last summer."
Spencer and Peyton sat at the table with Veronica.
"This is what I don't understand," Beyer told them. "Ian was a star athlete, right? popular guy, dating a beautiful woman like your sister. You really think he would risk all that to be with Alison? She was barely 15."
"Well, maybe he has a thing for younger girls," Peyton told them.
"Why would you say that?" Beyer asked.
Peyton looked at Spencer, sighing. "I don't know."
"Were there other younger girls he was interested in?" Beyer asked.
Spencer shook her head. "No one but Alison."
Emily and Lucy sat at the table, shaking their heads. "No."
Hanna and Madison sat at the table. "No."
Aria sat at the table. "Not that I know of."
Pen sat at the table, shaking her head. "I don't think so."
---- -----
Hallway
The girls were now in the hallway with Mara, Byron, Ella, Ashley, Pam, Veronica and Jean.
Beyer followed. "You'll be available for more questions?"
"Of course," Veronica answered. "The girls have nothing to hide."
Beyer walked away. Pam walked out. Mara, Ashley, Bryon, Ella, Veronica and Jean pulled aside to talk.
"My mom just stepped out to call my dad," Mara told them.
"Are they being charged with something?" Jean asked. "Conspiracy to commit an honest mistake? Sorry. Haven't they been through enough?"
Veronica nodded. "The girls are free to go."
"I'm still trying to process this," Byron admitted.
"It seems they have been the victims of a cruel joke," Mara told them.
The girls were standing down the hallway, watching Mara and their parents talk.
"Whoever said 'the truth will set you free' never met A," Dakota told them.
"Jesus," Emily told them. "It's from the Bible. Jesus said it."
"Then Dakota's right, because that bitch is going straight to Hell," Madison told them.
"I wasn't completely honest in there," Spencer told them. "I should have been, but my mom was right next to Peyton and me, and with the whole Wren thing, I couldn't bring myself to say that I also hooked up with Ian."
"That has nothing to do with this," Aria told her.
"Emily and I lied about it too, Spence," Lucy told her.
"You know, sometimes telling the truth does more harm than good," Pen told them.
"Who said that?" Dakota asked.
"Alison," Pen answered.
Mara walked toward the girls. "Come on, girls. We can go home now."
Deputy Garrett Reynolds walked closer. "Hey, Mara. Emily, Lucy."
"Garrett?" Lucy asked.
"You're a cop now?" Mara asked.
"Look, uh, sorry they're putting you through this," Garrett told them.
Beyer was standing down the hall, looking at Garrett. "Officer Reynolds."
Garrett looked toward him.
Beyer nodded for him to come over.
Garrett looked at the girls. "Probably wants a refill on his coffee and another jelly donut."
Garrett walked away.
"He looks good in a uniform," Hanna told them.
The girls smirked. Mara chuckled in amusement, shaking her head.
Garrett walked up to Beyer. "Sir."
"You know those girls?" Beyer asked.
Garrett nodded. "My parents lived down the street from Emily, Lucy and Mara Fields, so we used to be neighbors."
"You think they're telling the truth?" Beyer asked.
"Uh, I don't know why they would lie, sir," Garrett told him.
Beyer sighed. "Neither do I. But you're gonna help me find out."
"Sir?" Garrett asked.
"Unless you'd rather be writing parking tickets," Beyer told him, walking away.
Garrett looked down the hallway toward the girls.

Hastings House - Living Room
Peter and Veronica were sitting on the couches. Peyton walked downstairs.
"Hey," Veronica told her. "How was your nap?"
"Better than most," Peyton answered. "Where's Spencer?"
"She left for a little while," Peter answered.
"Yeah, we all needed a little bit to settle down and rethink this," Veronica told her.
Peyton sat down. "Have you... talked to Melissa?"
"Yeah," Peter answered. "Yeah, we talked to Melissa and Ian. They... weren't that surprised."
"In hindsight, your sister saw it coming, and we should have, too," Veronica told her.
"Saw what coming?" Peyton asked.
Veronica sighed, shaking her head. "We should have insisted that you see someone after they found Alison. We're not blaming you, we're blaming ourselves."
"Like--like a shrink?" Peyton asked skeptically. "Dad?"
"Look, you--you told the police everything you know," Peter told her. Peyton nodded. "So while they're doing their job, we just think you should see a therapist, talk about how you feel."
"I--we feel scared," Peyton admitted. "Okay, we feel scared every day that he's here. Please, there's nothing wrong with me, or with Spencer."
Ian and Melissa walked in, but Peyton wouldn't look at them.
"I hope you get the help you need," Melissa told her.
"Peyton, I want you to know I'm not angry with you," Ian told her. "I'm... confused, but I'm not mad."
"What I don't understand is why you came back to Rosewood," Peyton told him. "You got away with it."
Melissa gave Peyton a look. "You're sick."
"Melissa," Peter chastised.
"That's how I deal with this, Dad," Melissa told him. She looked at Peyton. "I have to believe you're ill."
Peyton ignored her, looking at Ian. "If you had just stayed away, no one ever would have known."
"Peyton, that's enough," Veronica told her.
"The trophy wasn't real, but that doesn't mean that he didn't do it," Peyton told them.
"Oh, my God, do you hear yourself?" Melissa asked incredulously.
Ian sighed, looking at Melissa. "I'm just making things worse by being here. Peyton... I meant what I said."
Ian left the house.
Melissa looked at Peyton angrily. "Why can't you or Spencer just let me be happy?"
"This isn't about you," Peyton told her in annoyance.
"You're right," Melissa told her. "Like always, it's about the two of you."
Melissa left the house.
Peyton rolled her eyes, looking at her parents. "Look, I know what this must look like, and..."
Veronica shook her head. "No. No, I don't think you do."

Rosewood High School - Girls Locker Room
Emily was at her locker.
Paige walked in, stopping when she saw Emily. "I forgot my bag here last night."
Paige got her locker open to grab her bag.
"Have you been swimming at nights because you know I'm here in the mornings?" Emily asked.
Paige shook her head. "It's just kind of worked out that way."
Emily cleared her throat. "I left you a couple of messages."
Paige turned to face her nervously. "I went to visit my aunt. She's old and sick."
Emily pulled on her jacket. "I thought maybe you were avoiding me."
Paige continued to put things into her bag. "No, I just... no."
"Okay, this is beyond awkward," Emily pointed out. "Can we please talk about what happened?"
"There's nothing to talk about," Paige told her.
"You kissed me, remember?" Emily asked.
Paige looked behind Emily toward where a few girls were standing. "Emily, just drop it."
"So you want to pretend like it didn't happen?" Emily asked.
"Yes," Paige answered. "Please."
Emily closed her locker. "Consider it forgotten."
---- -----
Edgewood Motor Court - Outside
Spencer and Toby got out of a car. Toby went around the car to open the trunk, getting his bag.
"Are you sure that you want to stay here?" Spencer asked.
Toby closed the trunk. "I can't handle another fight with Jenna. I don't want to go home until my parents get back, and I don't think your parents are gonna offer me the guest room."
Spencer sighed, shaking her head. "It's my fault she's making your life so miserable."
"I didn't have to take her phone," Toby told her.
Spencer crossed her arms. "How does she know it was you?"
"She doesn't," Toby answered. "But with Jenna, suspicion is enough."
"I really am sorry," Spencer told him.
"That's okay," Toby told her. "My folks will be back on Monday, and they're usually a decent buffer."
Spencer chuckled. "You never talk about your parents."
"Neither do you," Toby replied.
They smiled a little.
"Yeah, well, the house of Hastings isn't exactly my safe place to land right now, either," Spencer told him.
"Spencer, if Jenna has anything to do with you guys being framed, I'll do whatever I can to help you," Toby promised.
"Thank you," Spencer told him.
Toby walked toward his motel room. Spencer was about to get back into her car when she heard a flute playing, walking toward the motel room where it was coming from, knocking softly. The flute stopped. Spencer looked into the motel room, seeing the same bag that Ian had given to Jenna at school. She looked at the motel room number, seeing it was 2-1-4.

McCoy House - Kitchen
Dakota was in the kitchen, watching as Jean walked up the stairs. "Enjoy your shower."
"I intend to," Jean told her, walking past Caleb as he walked downstairs. "Good morning, Caleb."
"You, too, Mrs. McCoy," Caleb told her. Jean cleared her throat, giving him a look. Caleb corrected himself. "Jean. Sorry." Jean walked upstairs, leaving. Caleb walked toward Dakota. "Your mom does not like to be called Mrs. McCoy."
(Song:) Two at a Time - Shelly Fraley
"No, she does not," Dakota agreed, handing him a cup of coffee. "Here."
"Thanks," Caleb told her.
Dakota showed him boxes of cereal. "Okay, pebbles or puffs?"
"Uh, surprise me," Caleb answered.
Dakota opened the puffs, pouring them into a bowl. Caleb stood behind Dakota, pulling her hair aside, kissing her neck.
Dakota chuckled. "That tickles."
"Really?" Caleb asked in amusement. "You're not laughing."
Caleb trailed a finger along Dakota's arm to get a reaction out of her.
Dakota pressed her lips together over a smile, taking a deep breath, looking at her watch. "Crap, I'm gonna be late for work." She picked up the cereal bowl. "Better take this to go."
Dakota walked toward the front door, grabbing her bag on the way.
Caleb followed. "Wait. You forgot something."
Dakota turned to face him. "What?"
Caleb pulled Dakota into a kiss for a long moment before finally pulling away, smiling. Dakota smiled, walking out, leaving.

Rosewood High School - Hallway
Emily was at her locker, opening it. A note fell out of her locker to the floor. She picked it up, opening it to read it.
Meet me at 202 W. Chester Pike
7 PM
-Paige
Emily put the note in her pocket, closing her locker.
Lucy walked down the hallway alone, stopping at her locker when she saw Mara talking to Jenna down the way. Her phone beeped. She pulled it out, looking at the text.
The SISTER and the SCORNED are now BFFs. Scared yet? You will be.

---- / -----
Lucy walked up to Mara and Jenna. "Sorry to interrupt. I was just hoping to talk to my sister, Mara."
"I was just leaving, Lucy," Jenna told her. "Thank you again for your help, Mara."
Mara nodded. "Absolutely, Jenna."
Jenna passed Lucy by. "She's all yours."
Lucy looked at her older sister. "Mara, what were you guys talking about?"
"Jenna was telling me her plans about composing the music for the play," Mara answered. "Lucy, are you okay?"
Lucy sighed, shrugging, shaking her head. "I'm just feeling out of it. You know, paranoid, after the whole trophy set up thing."
Mara nodded in understanding. "Yeah, I get it. We're gonna find out who pulled that sick prank. And find out what really happened to Alison. Soon, Lucy. I promise."
Lucy nodded nervously. "Yeah. I know. Thanks, Mara."
Emily walked toward them. "Hey, Mara, Lucy."
"Emily, hey," Mara told her. "Both you and Lucy look like you need to talk. You want me to walk you to your next class?"
"I was honestly thinking about skipping it altogether, because after what happened today, everyone is looking at us like we're anti-Christs," Lucy answered.
Mara chuckled in amusement. "Don't worry. By tomorrow, it'll be fading news. Come on, let's go. I can get you two something from the vending machine on the way."
Lucy smiled. "Okay."
Emily, Mara and Lucy smiled, walking down the hall. Mara walked away from her sisters to get them things from the vending machine.
Madison, Hanna, Dakota, Pen, Spencer and Peyton walked up to Emily and Lucy.
"I can't believe that this is happening," Pen told them.
"Do you want us to talk to them for you?" Madison asked.
"No," Spencer answered.
"Who?" Lucy asked.
"Spencer and Peyton's parents think they're nuts," Hanna explained.
"Unstable," Spencer corrected. "And why would they believe us? I mean, we have no proof. We're the girls who cried wolf."
"And the wolf is living in your backyard," Hanna told them.
"Right, which is why I need to get into room 214," Spencer told them.
Dakota looked at Emily and Lucy. "Spencer thinks Jenna has a room at the Edgewood Motor Court."
"Did you see 214?" Emily asked.
Pen nodded. "And Spencer saw the bag that Ian gave her. It's in the room."
"Okay, I think we need to take a break from playing Charlie's Angels," Madison told them. "I don't want to spend another night with the Rosewood PD."
Garrett walked through the hall.
Lucy walked after him. "Hey!"
"And there goes Lucy Liu," Madison told them.
Hanna chuckled. "Well, Lucy can relate to Lucy Liu. And not just because of her name."
"Garrett, can I talk to you for a second?" Lucy asked.
"Sure," Garrett answered. "What's up?"
"I know that most of the evidence we have on Ian is weak," Lucy told him.
"'Weak'?" Garrett repeated. "It's nonexistent."
Lucy shook her head. "You have to follow up on Hilton Head. We know that he was there. Pen talked to the clerk, we all heard it."
"I'm waiting for a manager to call me back," Garrett told her. "If Ian was there with Alison, I'll find out."
Lucy nodded. "Thank you."
Lucy turned to leave.
"Hey, Lucy," Garrett told her.
Lucy turned back. "Yeah?"
"Why would Ian want Ali dead?" Garrett asked.
Lucy sighed. "Because she was going to tell Melissa about their affair."

Girls' Bathroom
Aria was washing her hands.
Jenna walked in. "I understand why you're so fond of Mr. Fitz. He takes such a personal interest in his students. I feel like I can tell him anything. I was thinking of suggesting he add Orwell's '1984' to the reading list. You know, big brother's always watching you."
Aria rolled her eyes. "Mr. Fitz isn't seduced by controlling characters."
"You do know him better," Jenna told her, walking away.
Aria watched her go nervously.
---- -----
Hallway
Pen was going through her locker.
Evan leaned against the locker next to hers. "Looks like you girls have gotten into more trouble, Penny."
Pen chuckled. "Nothing we can't handle, Evan. We're strong, if you haven't noticed."
"Considering that we started seeing each other before you moved away for a year, and that Aria's my sister, and I know all your little friends, yeah, I've noticed," Evan told her. Pen smiled a little. "You okay?"
"Been better," Pen answered. "Been worse."
"Well, since Pen DiLaurentis is always in the need of a distraction, maybe I can help with distracting again," Evan told her.
Pen smiled. "Oh, yeah? And what does the distraction king Evan Montgomery have in mind this time?"
"Maybe dinner, maybe movies," Evan answered. "Oh, or we could go kick ass at the arcade again."
Pen laughed. "That sounds like a lot of fun."
"But..." Evan trailed off.
Pen sighed, rolling her eyes a little. "But, with all the trouble me and my friends have been getting into recently, my parents have been calling me nonstop until I stop avoiding them and pick up the phone."
"That's why all phones have an off button," Evan pointed out.
"Yeah, but if you knew my parents like I know them, you know that ignoring them for so long is a big mistake," Pen told him.
Evan nodded in agreement. "That is true. So talk to them, Pen. And I'll take you out tonight and get your mind off things. How does that sound?"
Pen looked at Evan for a moment, closing her locker, leaning closer to kiss Evan passionately and sweetly for a long moment, pulling away, leaning her head against his, smiling a small smile. "That sounds like the best night I can come up with tonight."
Evan chuckled. "All right. Good. Let's do it. So, what will it be? Movies? Dinner? Arcade?"
"Can we do all three?" Pen asked.
Evan laughed, nodding. "Yeah, we can definitely do all three."
Pen gasped teasingly. "Can we do karaoke, too?"
Evan shrugged. "Whatever you want. Just don't make me sing with you."
Pen smiled. "Awesome. I've been looking to blow off some steam."
They walked down the hallway when Pen's phone vibrated. She looked at the text.
"What is it?" Evan asked. "Pen. Something wrong?"
"No," Pen answered. "It's just my friend from Philadelphia, when my parents moved me out of town after Ali disappeared. Her name's Jenny, and she's been going through a rough time."
"Well, we can't help everyone, Pen," Evan told her.
"I know, Evan," Pen told him. "I just wish that I could."

Edgewood Motor Court - Toby's Room
Toby was sitting on the bed.
Spencer was going through a bag of board games, hyped up on caffeine. "Scrabble. Mad libs." She pulled out a magazine. "'Bikes to die for, babes to fight for'. Page 12. It's a great read."
Toby took the magazine, amused but confused. "Thanks."
"And I downloaded this app that turns my phone into a listening device," Spencer explained. "That way, if anybody goes next door, we'll be able to hear them through the wall. Caffeine?"
Spencer was about to open a Monster.
Toby took the Monster away from her. "I think you've had enough."
They heard a door open and close from next door, standing, leaving the room.
---- -----
Outside
Spencer and Toby walked outside to find a maid.
"Hey, did you just come out of room 214?" Spencer asked. "Is there any way that we can get in there?"
"Is it your room?" the maid asked.
"No," Toby answered. "But we--"
The maid scoffed. "I've got work to do."
Spencer reached into her pocket to pull out money. "Wait, um, for a 20... can we pretend that he said yes?"
---- -----
Room 214
Spencer and Toby walked in, looking around.
Toby picked glasses up from the floor. "Spencer, Jenna's glasses. This is her room."
"The bag was on the bed," Spencer told him. They both started to search the room, under the bed, in the drawers. Spencer ran to the closet, opening the doors to reveal the bag on the shelf, pulling it down. They looked inside. Spencer sighed. "Nothing."

Night - Diner - Outside
Emily pulled up to the bar in her car.
GPS: "You have arrived at your destination."

Inside
(Song:) Woman - Band of Thieves
Emily walked into the diner, looking around, finding Paige at a table, walking closer, sitting down, sighing. "Do you come here a lot?"
Paige shook her head. "I didn't realize it was so..."
Emily pulled off her jacket. "Rustic?"
Paige nodded. "I found it online. I thought it would be..."
"Remote?" Emily finished.
Paige couldn't help a small smile. "You gonna finish all my sentences?"
"Sorry," Emily told her.
"That was a joke," Paige told her.
Paige said, "I was...", the same time Emily said, "I think..."
Emily shook her head. "You go first."
"You were right today," Paige admitted. "I was avoiding you. I scared myself that night when I..."
"Kissed me?" Emily finished.
Paige chuckled. "There you go again. The first time I saw you with Maya, when I realized you were together, I finally admitted to myself that I was like you."
"Am I the first girl you've kissed?" Emily asked.
Paige nodded. "Romantic, huh?"
Emily chuckled. "Definitely surprised me."
"So, was Maya your first girlfriend?" Paige asked.
"She was," Emily answered. "But she... wasn't the first girl I've ever kissed." She touched the bracelet with her name on it that Alison had given her. "I was in love with Alison."
"Was she in love with you?" Paige asked.
"No," Emily answered.
Paige hesitated. "I didn't know her well, but... she seemed like a very dynamic person."
Emily nodded in agreement. "She was that."
"Maya was kinda like that, too, right?" Paige asked.
"Yeah," Emily answered. "I... guess I like..."
"Ballsy women," Paige finished.
They both chuckled.

Ezra's Apartment
(Song:) Breathe - Rowan
Aria was setting up a romantic dinner for Ezra, in a purple dress, ready for when he walked in the door. "Welcome home, honey."
Ezra was very impressed. "Wow. Hi." Aria walked closer, kissing Ezra passionately. They pulled away. "Are we celebrating something I'm not aware of?"
"No," Aria answered, fixing his tie.
Ezra nodded, taking off his jacket. "You're wearing this dress because..."
Aria smiled. "Because I just... wanted to hear you say wow."
Ezra chuckled. "I like coming home to you." They both chuckled, sitting down at the table. "Sorry I'm late. Things took longer than I thought."
"What things?" Aria asked.
"Well, besides a meeting, I was helping Jenna with a paper essay," Ezra answered. "Jenna is submitting a short story to a competition."
Aria looked nervous. "Oh, I thought music was her thing."
Ezra nodded. "I think she's got a shot at winning."
"What's her story about?" Aria asked.
"Exposing people," Ezra answered. "The protagonist is blind, But she 'sees; more than sighted people."
"So it's about her?" Aria asked nervously.
Ezra shrugged. "She says it's fiction... But it begins on the night of an accident, and her brother is responsible for it. Was it really Toby's fault?"
Aria hated lying to him. "He-- he set fire to the garage, but he didn't know Jenna was inside."
Ezra sighed. "Her story suggests that it wasn't an accident."
Aria shook her head. "I wouldn't know."
"I can't stop thinking about her story," Ezra explained.
Aria held up a piece of food. "Cheese ball?"
"Sure," Ezra answered, taking it. "Her story is so raw, which is surprising, coming from somebody so guarded. Was she always like that?"
Aria shrugged. "We were never that close."
"Can't imagine what her life must be like," Ezra admitted. "How does a family just get over something like that?"
"They don't," Aria answered curtly. She took a moment to calm down. "Can we just talk about something else?"
Ezra nodded. "Yeah."
Aria chuckled. "Dinner's almost ready."
Aria stood, walking away to get food.

Woods
Dakota was setting up a tent in a woods.
Caleb was outside making a bonfire, teasing. "'Hey, Caleb. Let's go camp in the middle of the woods in the middle of the night so we can get away from the drama of the city.'"
Dakota walked out of the tent, toward him, hearing an usual hooting. "Owls do that when they dive for prey."
Dakota took the smoking marshmallow from him, pulling off the black, holding it toward him.
Caleb took the stick back, eating the marshmallow. "Wow. Hot."
Dakota chuckled. "Well, it's not supposed to be cold."
Caleb laughed sarcastically. "Smartass. All right, Jungle Jane, what gives?'
"What do you mean?" Dakota asked.
"Out in the real world, you're somewhat of a moody goth, but out here, you're like Dora the Explorer," Caleb answered.
"My dad used to bring me and my mom camping to clear our heads before or after we moved towns, or during the summer before school started," Dakota explained. "One of the few good memories I have of my dad with us as a family."
Caleb seemed impressed. "You have any other personalities I should know about?"
Dakota took a moment to respond. "Yeah, actually. Did I ever tell you why I blew up at my old job?"
"No," Caleb answered. "I never asked."
Dakota looked down, taking a deep breath. "I have... intermittent explosive disorder. I get these sudden episodes of impulsive... aggressive... violent behavior, and react way out of proportion for the situation. But I take a anticonvulsant mood stabilizer called Carbamazepine. It helps me keep that part of me under control. I exploded at the Applerose Grille because I didn't have my medication."
Caleb took all of this in. "You didn't have to tell me that."
Dakota shrugged slightly, looking at him. "I want you to know who I am."
Caleb looked down. "I know that you have a lot of issues with your father. I never met mine. When I was five, my mom dropped me off at my aunt's house to go shopping. She never came back. When I was ten, she sent me a birthday card. It said, 'Happy Birthday. Love, Mom'. That's it. I should have been pissed, right? I was so happy to get that card. It was postmarked from Arizona. That's the last place I know she was."
Dakota looked at him for a moment, kissing him softly, pulling away. Caleb turned to her, putting a hand on her cheek, kissing her deeply. Dakota wrapped an arm around his neck as they continued to kiss.

Karaoke Place
Pen was on the stage, dancing around a little as she was singing karaoke. Evan was watching, smiling.
Pen was singing 'Dance With Me Tonight' by Olly Murs. "I was wondering if you and me could spend a minute / On the floor up and close getting lost in it / I won't give up without a fight / I just wanna, oh baby / I just want you to dance with me tonight / So come on, oh baby / I just want you to dance with me tonight." The song played on, but Pen smiled when she got an idea. "Hey, everybody, can you help me get my boyfriend Evan up here to sing along?"
There was cheers and applause.
Evan shook his head. "No. No way."
"They love you already, Evan, come on," Pen told him.
Evan chuckled. "I don't do karaoke."
Pen gave him a look. "Take a walk on the wild side."
There was more cheers and applause. Pen grabbed another mic, waving it around.
Evan chuckled, shaking his head, giving in, walking up, taking the mic. "I am so gonna get you back for this."
"You're the one that brought me out for a night of distractions," Pen replied. She started to sing again, dancing around. "Don't stop, keep going till the morning light, yeah / When I saw you there, sitting all alone in the dark acting like you didn't have a care."
Pen and Evan sang together. "I knew right then, that you'd be mine / And we'd be dancing the whole damn night like / Oh baby, I just want you to dance with me tonight / So come on, oh baby / I just want you to dance with me tonight / I just want you to dance with me tonight."
To finish off the song, Evan took Pen by the hand, spinning her around in a dance, surprising her when he lowered her into a dip, pulling her back up to kiss her passionately. The whole crowd cheered and applauded. Pen and Evan pulled away, looking at each other, smiling, continuing to kiss passionately.

Edgewood Motor Court - Toby's Room
Spencer was lying on the bed, talking to Toby.
"Jenna might not even be here till morning," Toby told her, walking closer, sighing, sitting down, looking at the word that Spencer put down for 'Scrabble.' "'Glyceraldehyde'?"
Spencer nodded. "With the 'C' on the double letter, it is 32 points, plus the triple word score gets me 96 points."
Toby put his word down. "'Goofball'. You can put down 104 points for me. Thanks for the 'G'. I've been waiting for it. 18 points times the triple word score, plus the 50 point bingo bonus."
Spencer was impressed but sheepish that he beat her with a simple word when she had used a complex word. "Well, 104 points. Good for you."
Toby chuckled. "I like this game. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but... you can't be comfortable in that jacket and that tie."
"I'm fine," Spencer told him unconvincingly.
Toby held up a shirt and pajama pants. "Top or bottom?" Spencer looked at him in surprise. Toby smiled. "I'm just kidding."
(Song:) Glitter in the Air - P!NK
Toby tossed the shirt to Spencer, walking into the bathroom to chance, but couldn't close the flimsy sliding door all the way, taking off his shirt to change into pajamas. Spencer found herself watching while he removed his shirt. When Toby walked out of eyeline, Spencer snapped out of her haze, shaking her head.

Hanna was sleeping in a chair. Madison was sleeping on the window seat. Mara smiled slightly, chuckling, shaking her head, turning the light off, closing the door, walking away.

Caleb spoke softly. "Are you sure?"
Dakota nodded, speaking just as softly. "I'm sure. Do you have..."
Caleb nodded. Dakota smiled. They continued to kiss deeply, heatedly, rising up onto their knees, their arms wrapped around each other. Caleb lifted her shirt over her head, letting it fall, lying her down.

Day Two
Morning - Fields House - Lucy's Room
Aria, Hanna, Madison, Peyton and Lucy were sitting on the bed.
Aria showed them a magazine. "We want?"
"We need," Madison answered.
Aria checked her phone.
"I thought your Saturdays were saved for coffee and cartoons with Fitz," Hanna told her.
"Why are you avoiding him?" Madison asked.
Aria shook her head. "I'm not exactly avoiding him."
"He's called you three times since you've been here," Peyton told her.
Aria put down her magazine. "Okay, I'm avoiding him."
"Does this have to do with Jenna helping Mara and Fitz with the play?" Madison asked.
Hanna sighed, rolling her eyes. "Oh, it does, doesn't it?"
"It's not just that," Aria told them. "Ezra's helping her with a writing project, and keeps asking questions about her. Like, 'Was it really Toby's fault, can you imagine how hard her life must be'? I mean, oh, my God."
"So what do you say?" Madison asked.
"I lie," Aria answered. "Over and over again."
"Do you want to tell him the truth?" Lucy asked.
"Doesn't matter," Hanna told them. "We made a promise."
"Shut up for a sec, Hanna," Peyton told her. "Aria, do you want to tell him?"
"Or do you feel like you need to?" Madison asked. Aria nodded. "Then you don't have a choice. I don't know about Spencer, Peyton, Pen, or Dakota. But if you trust him... we do, too."
Hanna and Lucy nodded in agreement.

Edgewood Motor Court - Toby's Room
Spencer woke up, realizing that while in her sleep, she had wrapped an arm around Toby while he faced away from her. She slowly took her arm away as to not wake him up, sitting up, looking stunned. When she noticed that Toby was starting to wake up, she stood. "Hey."
Toby sat up slightly. "Have you been up all night?"
Spencer shook her head. "Mm-mm."
They heard something outside, walking toward the door quickly.
---- -----
Outside
Toby and Spencer made their way outside, hearing the sound of a flute playing in Room 214. They noticed that the door was opening, walking closer.
---- -----
Room 214
Toby and Spencer made their way into the room, seeing that no one was here, and the flute sound was coming from a CD player. Spencer walked closer to turn it off.
Toby looked at Jenna's bag on the bed, which had a message he read aloud. "'You're getting colder'."
Spencer walked closer. "What?"
Spencer looked in the bag, seeing it was full of ice, and that the message was on a post-it note signed by -A.
"Who is A?" Toby asked.
Spencer shook her head. "I--I have no idea."

(Song:) Moth's Wings - Passion Pit
Emily and Paige were laying on a blanket set up for a picnic.
"I love this band," Emily told her.
Paige smiled. "Me, too."
Emily looked at her. "They're playing in the city next month. We should go and see 'em."
"I'd like to, but, you know..." Paige trailed off.
"What?" Emily asked.
"We might see people we know there," Paige answered. "I can't risk being seen with you." Emily looked hurt and annoyed, sitting up. Paige sat up. "I thought you understood."
Emily nodded. "I so understand. Believe me, I do. But hearing you say that, ouch."
"I didn't mean to hurt your feelings," Paige told her. "I had an amazing time last night. And I would really like to keep seeing you."
"Like this?" Emily asked. "Always in the middle of nowhere, hiding?"
"It's the only way I can do it," Paige told her.
Emily took a deep breath, shaking her head. "I'm not ashamed of who I am, but I used to be, and if we have to hide like this all the time, I'm gonna start to feel that way again."
"I really like you, Emily," Paige admitted.
"I like you, too, and I'll always be here for you, but I think it has to be as friends," Emily told her. "I'm sorry."
They both looked away awkwardly.

Ezra's Apartment
Ezra opened the door to reveal Aria outside. "Hey. I've been leaving you messages all morning."
Aria nodded. "I know, I've been avoiding you."
"Why?" Ezra asked. Aria slowly stepped inside. Ezra closed the door as they turned to face each other. "What's going on, Aria? You're starting to scare me."
"I've been walking around your block for the past two hours, trying to talk myself out of what I'm about to tell you, because I know if I do, there's a chance that you'll never look at me the same again," Aria explained, tears in her eyes, nervous and scared.
Ezra stepped closer worriedly. "Aria."
Aria was still scared that she could lose this relationship when he knew the truth.

Edgewood Motor Court - Outside
Spencer was about to leave, talking to Toby.
"If it gets too uncomfortable at home, I'm here for one more night," Toby told her. "You can always come back."
Spencer chuckled. "I might actually take you up on that." They smiled. "I'm sorry this was a bust."
"It wasn't... a complete wash," Toby told her. "To be honest, it was really fun to kick your ass at Scrabble."
Spencer and Toby looked at each other for a moment, eventually kissing slowly and softly, pulling away, smiling.
"I was not expecting that," Spencer admitted.
Toby chuckled. "Me neither."
They held hands as Toby backed away, letting their hands slip apart as he went back to his room.
Spencer smiled, remembering what he had said about Scrabble. "Hey, it was not a complete ass-kicking, by the way."
Toby looked back, smiling. "Goodbye, Spencer."
When Toby headed inside, Spencer smiled.

McCoy House - Kitchen
Dakota and Caleb had just returned to the house, still in their clothes from the night before.
Jean was cutting up food in the kitchen, in her work clothes. "Hey, Dakota. Caleb."
"Hey, Mom," Dakota told her. "Food smells good."
Jean chuckled. "Where were you two?"
"Uh, we camped out," Dakota answered, putting her bag down, turning to walk out of the kitchen. "Just got back. And I will be right back. Again."
"Where are you going?" Jean asked.
"I'm gonna go shower," Dakota answered. "And then I'm changing. But first..." She walked toward the fridge, opening it to take out a can of cherry Pepsi. "I'm getting a soda." She opened the soda, taking a drink, closing her eyes, smiling a little. "Yep, needed that." Caleb chuckled. "Want one?"
"Sure," Caleb answered.
Dakota took out another soda, handing it to Caleb, looking at Jean. "Food looks good, too, Mom. I'm hungry, if you hadn't noticed. Hopefully when I get back... it'll be ready. No hurry." She walked closer to kiss Jean on the head. "Love you."
"Love you, too, Dakota," Jean told her.
Caleb drank his soda. "I just wanted to say..." Jean and Dakota looked at him. "Thank you... for letting me stay here for this long. Nobody has really done that for me."
"Well, the two of us, of all people, understand your situation," Dakota told him. "We were in it. Sometimes still are."
Dakota took a drink of soda, walking out of the room.
Jean continued with the food, looking at Caleb. "She's right. But I don't want Dakota getting hurt. After everything she's been through with her dad, the kidnapping, her disorder, everything at school..."
Caleb nodded. "I understand. Thank you."
Jean smiled a small smile, walking out of the room for a moment.

Outside
Caleb walked outside nervously, guiltily, making a call. "I can't do this anymore. It's over. I'm out."

Ezra's Apartment
Aria and Ezra were sitting on the couch. Ezra was holding her.
Aria had her head on his shoulder. "I try not to look back, but if there's anything that I could change in my life, it would be that night."
Ezra turned her head for Aria to look at him. "Hey. I love you. And nothing you just said to me changes that."
Aria was so relieved she looked ready to cry. "Thank you for looking at me today the same way you did yesterday."
Ezra kissed Aria on the head. Aria laid her head on his shoulder as he continued to hold her.

Hastings House - Kitchen
Peyton had returned home, looking at Melissa, who was sitting at the counter. "Why is there a police car in the driveway? Did they talk to Ian? Did they find out that he was at Hilton Head with Ali?"
"No," Melissa answered. "Because he wasn't with Alison. He was with me." She looked as if she was going to cry. "He lied to protect me. I was pregnant that summer, and... we went there to get an abortion. I lost the baby before we went to the doctor. That's why this baby is so important to me."
Veronica and Peter walked in.
Veronica sighed. "Oh, Peyton. We're trying to help you, but you need to start being completely honest with us."
"Police are waiting in the living room," Peter told her. "They know you and your sister lied to them."
"Peyton, they know that Spencer was seeing Ian, and they know that you knew about it," Veronica told her.
Peyton looked at them nervously, worriedly.

Night - Hastings House - Outside
The rest of the girls, aside from Spencer and Peyton, had met up outside the house, watching as Spencer and Peyton were talking to the police.
"What's going on in there?" Madison asked.
"Did she send anything else?" Lucy asked.
"Just the SOS," Hanna answered.
Their phones rang, beeped, buzzed and dinged. They took them out to read the message from A.
Aria read aloud. "'Breaking news, bitches.'"
Madison read aloud. "'Spencer and Peyton Hastings, now both people of interest.'"
Hanna read aloud. "'In my death.'"
Dakota, Hanna, Emily, Aria, Madison, Lucy and Pen read aloud. "'A'."
They looked toward Spencer and Peyton worriedly.
