ROAD TRIPS HAVEN'T always been my most favorite getaways. Mostly due to Evelin always screaming in her carseat, the roads being too bumpy to sleep, or the trip being too long overall.
But, this road-trip with Louis so far has been calming. I could actually take a small nap if I wanted to, even though it still wouldn't be the most enjoyable. We were only 30 minutes into the drive, however. And I couldn't grade his road-tripping skills just yet.
Personally, I've never stayed at Big Bear. I've definitely heard of it from Daniel or my grandparents who stay there almost every year for their anniversary. From the photography I've seen, I could already tell it has alluring scenery and sometimes during the winter, snow. It's not much of course, but it's just enough for my liking since I've never seen snow before in my 17 years of living.
The past road-trips I've been on have been with my family and we don't go too far from home really. Just 1 hour south to Laguna Beach, or long 7 hours north to Lake Tahoe. We used to take a small vacation every year until Evie turned 2, since she became a little too much to handle and a car filled with 7 people was overwhelming.
It just being the two of us, Louis and I, felt out of place but it's something I could get used to. I don't have to scurry around trying to get comfortable or worry about how loud my phone's volume is. I can just sit there and talk to him about the most random things for the rest of the drive without thinking too much of it.
The last few days haven't been interesting in the slightest. All I've done is attend school, do homework, and just watch Netflix mostly. Other than Daniel, Ivy, Mariah, and I going dress-shopping for the upcoming Frosted Formal. It felt blissful to get out and spend time with my idiotic best-friends.
"Are you cold?" Louis questioned, turning his glance over towards me. His fingers hovered over the turning nobs as he waited for my response.
Adjusting my legs that I held against me in the passenger seat, I shook my head "no" at him. The air-conditioning in the car was blaring, but I don't mind. My oversized hoodie and sweatpants were enough to keep me warm and cozy.
I grade Louis' driving a seven out of ten. He drove pretty well, even if he only drove with his left hand on the steering wheel. His concentration is better than mine at-least. I can drive, but definitely not as well as Louis or any other person I know really.
The sunset filled the entire sky with the deep color of rubies, setting the clouds ablaze. It looked as if a giant painting was planted into the sky above the high-way we were driving on. Shades of pinks, reds, oranges, and purples all blended in together, making a stunning illustration for us to examine.
6:34 PM is the time and we have another hour and a half to go. Even though staying in the car for long amounts of time was aggravating to me, I enjoy it when it's with Louis. The two of us couldn't even be having a conversation at all, but I would still like being beside him. His presence is welcoming and cheery to me.
Louis spoke, "You brought your swim suit, right?" I glanced over at him before looking down at my water-bottle placed in the cup holder. "Yeah, why?"
Laughing, he shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I wanna go swimming, it's been forever!"
Even though I live in California, Louis is from a place in the world where it's not warm most of the time. Definitely not in the season of winter. And of course, him being very busy with his rising acting career, he didn't have the time to swim a whole lot this past summer.
But, it being the beginning of winter, I didn't know where we were exactly going to swim. Since Big Bear is practically known for it's snowy weather, swimming wasn't the most amusing idea.
"Where are we going to swim?" I replied, I let my seat back a small bit so I could get more comfortable.
Louis took his eyes off the road for a few seconds and gazed over at me. His brown eyes were lightened by the sun setting into them. It made them into the pools of honey I loved looking into when I first met him.
"Indoor pool."
That made somewhat more sense. There was no way I was going to swim in the freezing Big Bear Lake. A indoor pool however, I was fine with.
And I nodded once again at him, letting the scenery out the window take my attention.
"There's only one bed, so I hope you don't mind." Louis confirmed, letting out a small laugh to set the mood. I watched him take the key-card and unlock the hotel-room door. "That's fine with me."
There only being one bed wasn't the worst thing in the world, considering we've slept in my bed together before and I'm honestly too sleepy to even care honestly. I figured he felt the same way.
Car rides have always made exhaustion wash over me, no matter how long or short they are. Watching the outdoors out the car window quickly creep by was soothing, yet distracting. It felt like I was examining the same trees and the same grass for hours even though that might not be the case.
The two of us guided ourselves into the hotel-room Louis previously rented, which I appreciated dearly. It looked like a normal room, with the bed placed against the right wall and a medium-sized television and dresser on the left. And at the end wall, was a giant window that looked out at the gorgeous lake of Big Bear. There wasn't a lick of snow from what I could recall, but it's not something I worried about.
Louis dropped his backpack onto the floor beside the bathroom door. I watched the childish teenage boy run and jump onto the comfy double bed, he sunk his head into the fluffy white pillows. I dropped my bag as well, letting out a giggle.
"Can we go swimming now?" His muffled voice made me grin. It was like I was his mother and he was a little boy begging, amusingly. "Yes, we can go swimming, Louis."
Before I could even say another word, Louis sprung up and sprinted towards his backpack that was placed on the floor earlier. I heard the zipper unzip shakily and his hands gripped ahold of his swimming trunks. I'm guessing he grabbed a bunch of random clothes out of his suitcase, since his clothes were messily placed into it.
The bathroom door swung open and he ran into the small room, flicking the light-switch in the process. The sight was quite humorous, but I couldn't stand there for long since I knew he would bug me if I did.
Bending down to the floor, I unzipped my backpack as well and my fingers grabbed my pink colored bikini. Honestly, I didn't know if he was being serious about the swimsuit earlier, so I grabbed a random suit in my bottom drawer in my dresser.
It didn't take him long to change, since he was ready to get downstairs and into the pool that was practically calling for him. The bathroom door opened once again and out came a smiling Louis.
He was dressed in only his trunks and no shirt upon his chest.
Of course, I wanted to stare at the excited boy who was ready to shove me into the restroom so I could change . But, I knew it wasn't the best idea.
"Hurry!" He boasted. I playfully rolled my eyes and trotted into the bathroom. I already kicked off my sneakers by the front door, so that was one task already checked off the list.
After undressing and dressing into my suit, I felt nearly naked even though I really wasn't.
Wearing things like a bikini around the one boy who made me the weakest isn't something I'm thrilled for. I don't even like wearing them around my friends, let alone Louis.
It's not that I'm insecure.
Well, yes, yes it is. I won't lie a single bit.
My mother has always told me that my body is amazing in her eyes and God's eyes and that God doesn't make garbage. But, I've convinced myself she's only saying that because she's my mom. It's true that mothers do lie to make their offsprings feel better, but I didn't know if she was fibbing or not in this situation or not.
I've always felt like a hypocrite when I reassure Margot that she's one of the most stunning girls I've ever laid eyes on. I definitely wasn't lying though, my sister has always been beautiful and everyone around her can back me up on that. But, everything I tell her, I get told as well and I don't believe it a single bit. It's hard to when you don't look like the girls you seen on social media.
Louis interrupted, "I know you're ready!" My gloomy thoughts were soon taken over by Louis.
This trip isn't for me to worry about my body in a swimsuit or anything of the sort. It's for spending time with the goofy British boy who was about to drag me out of the bathroom if he could.
Smirking, I opened the bathroom door and held my clothes and two towels in my hands. "Finally!"
Louis glared at me up and down. It was quick though and his cheeks became red soon after.
"Are you ready, Louis?" I teased, shoving my before clothes into my backpack. "Of course!"
I playfully threw a white towel at him and grabbed my phone off the wooden dresser. I heard the hotel door creak open, making me turn around to see Louis standing against it.
The two of us left the room, making sure we locked the door behind us. I held my towel against my chest and watched Louis fast-walk through the hallway in front of me.
He walked past the elevator, confusing me a bit. But, I followed behind him all the way to the emergency stairway. "Elevator takes too long!"
His impatient self made me grin, but that grin soon left when I watched Louis sloppily hop down the stairs. Almost falling in the process, I winced. Falling upon the concrete stairs wouldn't be the best thing to do.
"Slow down, you dork." I joked, my feet slapping against the stairs.
Louis soon hit the bottom floor. It didn't take us long due to our hotel room being on the 3rd floor. Even though he was ready to get out the door, he stood there and waited for my slow and careful self.
We finally made our way into the indoor pool area.
That familiar smell of chlorine stirred joyful thoughts of the season of summer. A whiff of pool water lingered in my nose, which was somewhat delightful. The room was warm, but not warm enough for it to be hot.
Throwing his towel onto a round metal table, Louis waited for me to get situated. I could tell he was still impatient, which made me laugh slightly.
I set down my things as well.
Me standing there gave Louis the perfect opportunity to swing me over his shoulder, surprisingly. I felt a giggling Louis get my body situated.
His cold fingers rested upon the back of my thighs, making sure not to drop me. My only view was his bare back. Small giggles never stopped leaving his mouth as he started making his way towards the pool.
I hit his back with my fist a couple times, not wanting to be thrown in just yet. The temperature of the water isn't something I'm familiar with yet and being thrown into freezing water isn't the most loving thing.
I pouted, "Don't throw me in yet, Louis." He tightened his grip on my thighs.
Louis pulled his both into the pool, reeling me underwater with him. I had enough time to hold my breath before however.
Rising to the top, I laughed and waited for Louis to rise as well. My wet hair annoyingly swept across my face. I watched him come up from under the water.
It wasn't as cold as I imagined it to be, it was definitely in between. Perfect temperature to swim in, in a indoor pool.
Tiny water droplets were scattered across his collarbone and chest. His before messy hair was now soaking wet, it resulted in water dropping into his eyes. Another chuckle left his mouth.
Both of us swam in the clear water, splashing and trying to dunk each other in the process. I don't think my grin ever left my lips.
I wrapped my arms around Louis' neck and leaned against his back. He happily grabbed ahold of my thighs and tried wrapping them around his waist.
"Are you happy now that you're swimming?" I poked, earning a quick nod from him. His hair that normally smells like expensive shampoo and cologne, now smells like chlorine.
Louis corrected, "I've been happy, Ryan." I rested my chin on top of his head. "Me too."
Even though he was only dressed in swimming trunks and his entire body was engulfed in water, he still looked as good as he usually does.
There's never a dull moment when I'm with him. And it's one of the reasons I've started to grow a larger liking of him.
Joyful and full of laughter- it's something I need in my life and I'm hoping it stays forever.
I'm worried to expose this growing crush to him, though.
Rejection is one thing I can't handle, even though I've gone through it multiple times. My friends have reassured me multiple times that Louis most likely does like me back, but of course, I'm still not confident in it.
Especially since he's Louis Partridge. Why in the hell would he choose a random teenage girl that lives on her family's farm to like? Out of all the girls he could get? It doesn't make sense to me.
"Thank you for coming with me." Louis affirmed, he swam through the pool with me on his back. "No, thank you, for even inviting me."
This spontaneous trip was something I knew would be exciting, but I didn't know I was going to enjoy it this much so far.
It's not even done yet, but I love road-tripping with this child-like teenage boy.
