---
Christmas was always a time of love, care and happiness and it was the time of the year where families got together and enemies became friends. Simply, it's one of the best times in the year. The layers of thick white snow covered the school grounds completely, blanketing the whole area with a pure, beautiful white. Students greeted each other as they passed down on hallways with friendly smiles and warm embraces. It was rather nice to have a complete day off and it was the first time most of them were celebrating Christmas with the new family they found out after arriving at the school. Shu rubbed his hands together letting out a small flicker of flame across his palms just enough to keep himself warm in the cold weather. This was the first time he was having the experience of a Christmas surrounding. Most of the time, around this time of the year he was strictly forbidden to go outside and much less have an interaction with the beautiful Christmas lights that decorated the Moeru streets. He was often inside his room, rolled between layers of blankets as maids and butlers frequently visited to give him medicine and more warmth, and Shu didn't remember how many times he tried to convince his parents that he had fire powers for god's sake.
Shu smiled to himself as he stepped out of the bed that morning. This time, there were no restrictions, no one forbidding him to stay away from the Christmas spirit and all of them were allowed to visit the city to participate in the Christmas celebrations, and Shu was sure it was going to be a pretty awesome Christmas considering the fact that it would be his first proper Christmas celebration.
"Merry Christmas!" Zac cheered, his usually energy flowing out of his vibrant blue eyes glistening with excitement.
Valt relayed the same message with a much louder voice which made half of them cover their ears in pain but none of the excitement or the smile faltered. The room was buzzing with energy and happiness. It was like that for long minutes until someone grumbled beside him. Shu inwardly scowled, turning to Lui who was watching everything with an annoyed face. Shu bit his lips, right, the black Santa is also with them this year. Zac twirled around, his red cloak catching his movements as the prince excitedly reached for Lui, "Smile Lui! It's Christmas!"
"Like hell I'd care" Lui muttered, "I'm going to train"
Shu's eyebrows shot up in surprise, "Today?"
Lui gave him a sceptical look, "I don't like to slack off like all of you"
"But what about the movie!" Valt grumbled from the corner of the room. Several heads whipped into his direction.
Free sighed shaking his head, "It's not invented yet Valt. You're most probably talking about a stage drama"
"Right" Valt grinned sheepishly, scratching the back of his head.
"Watching you freaks are enough drama for me" Lui shot back when he caught the eyes of the albino who was watching him with horrified eyes. Lui raised his brow, "What the heck is wrong with you?"
Shu clapped his hands together, "You're running the Christmas spirit and you are convincing me to be Krampus or at least a close minion of that evil Santa"
There was a pin drop silence before Lui growled, giving Shu the evil eye. Shu knew that it was his cue as the albino dashed out of the room and passed several surprised friends while the white shark chased past him down the halls in full speed. "Whoa Shu" Honcho shrieked jumping to the side as the albino whizzed past him.
"Merry Christmas, Honcho!" He cheered only sparing just enough time to give him a small smile before Lui tackled him into the ground with a murderous grin.
"I'll kill you," Lui said, pinning him to the cold floor of the hallway.
"You say that everyday," Shu said, as a matter of fact. "And it's Christmas! You don't kill people in the Christmas!"
"Do I look like I have a Christmas Spirit with me?" Lui finally pushed away from him.
Shu sat down on the ground, about to answer when his eye caught the magnificent sight of snowfall outside. He stood up instinctively and walked to the training ground covered in a blanket of snow. Snowflakes falling from the sky landing on his milky white locks. "Whoa"
"Someone might look at you and think you've never seen a snowfall"
Shu wordlessly looked at him, and it took a minute for Lui to realize it was the truth. "Wait, for real?"
Shu rubbed his palms together opened them up to catch the small snowflakes gathering on his skin, "I was never allowed to go out, the only thing I was allowed to was to see the view from my bedroom window"
Lui watched Shu silently from his side. Snowflakes landed on his porcelain white skin and equally white hair. His red eyes were wide and beautiful, as they darted wildly around taking in everything. Lui tilted his head for the side and just watched the albino, realizing that he was almost like the child of Winter, funny he had a fire quirk to oppose that. He almost fit in too perfectly with the surrounding, almost like a snowflake, unique and delicate. "Oi!" Lui sighed, walking to him as he took off his white fur coat, "You're going to catch a cold like that."
Shu turned to him, his soft smile faltering from his lips at the thought of a cold, "But I can warm myself"
Lui clicked his tongue wrapping the coat over his shoulders surprising the younger. Shu blinked, rubbing his fingers against the soft white fur which tickled against his fingers. "I don't think you can fight against a whole winter with that power"
Shu hummed, a soft pink blush dusting his face, "What about you?"
Lui gave him his signature cocky grin, "Duh, I practically shoot ice from my fingers. The fur coat was just for show"
Shu shot him a suspicious look but decided to keep the coat nevertheless because of the warmth it was giving to him, not at all because the white tyrant gave him the coat. "Thanks.. I guess" Shu muttered under his breath sinking himself to the comfy feeling of the coat. Lui reached out his hand and brushed away a stray strand of white hair off his eyes as a speck of snowflakes suddenly fell down. Lui raised his brow.
"I bet you have so many flakes on your hair and no one can even see them, Santa's child"
Shu huffed shaking his head as a sprinkle of snowflakes kissed the ground beneath his feet. Shu squealed softly looking up to see Lui's grinning face, "I told you so"
Shu was about to have a good comeback when Zac suddenly burst out from the hallways with a grin stretched over his face. "Guys! C'mon, we're going on a sleigh!"
"Wait" Shu chirped, "For real?"
Zac threw an arm around Shu's shoulder and ruffled his hair, "Yes! Everyone is by the stables, c'mon"
Lui grumbled something under his breath and for a moment Shu thought he wouldn't be joining them, but as they walked down to the stabled Lui quietly followed them with an unreadable face. The silence and the rush of wind slowed when they arrived by the stables. Everyone was gathered around the numerous coloured sleighs shining against the white snow, two horses in front of each of the sleighs. Valt waved at him as he arrived, "Shu! Look at these"
Shu tilted his head and smiled, "They're beautiful!"
Lui clicked his tongue behind them watching everyone getting on their sleighs. It was like everyone else had already gotten a partner and when they looked closely it was the pairs assigned by the Headmaster to the tournaments and none of them have bothered even to change their partner. Lui and Shu shared a look as the first sleigh took off across the slops, the excitement cries of Xander and Ruway filling the air. "I'm not going" Lui finally declared as Valt's and Free's sleigh disappeared in the distance.
"Figured" Shu said, a disappointing tone lacing with his voice as he kicked on the snow absentmindedly.
"Shooting star!" Zac called, "Come join us then!"
Shu looked up to see Zac, his ever loving smile welcoming him warmly, but the truth was the sleigh was designed only to carry two people at a time and it seemed to him that Orochi was ready to give up on the ride for him and Shu certainly didn't want to cut off the happiness of another person in Christmas. "It's fine Zac! You two go ahead"
Zac looked at him hesitantly, "But you wanted to go on one, didn't you?"
"I'll take him in that goddamn sleigh or whatever the frick it is, go ahead sunburn"
Shu almost jumped at the sudden outburst, "Wha-"
Zac grinned, giving him a slow bow as he slid down the slope, "See you two by the city!"
Shu was frozen to the ground as he gave out a stunned look at Lui who walked toward the sleigh with Shiro and Kuro tied to the front. The two horses neighed loudly as he checked the reins and got on, the sleigh was painted pure white with crimson and light blue streaks painted across the surface, with snowflakes and candy canes decorating the edges. "What the hell are you staring at, c'mon"
Shu stepped to the sleigh accepting Lui's outstretched hand and got on. The cold winter wind surrounded them. The snow seems to shine against the faint sun rays filtering through the thick layer of clouds in the sky. The two horses started their way down the slope. The surrounding seemed to whizz past by them, the wind rushed against his ear colouring them with a bright red. "This is so fun!" Shu said, puffs of air coming out of his mouth. His cheeks flushed red from both coldness and excitement and Lui thought his bother of coming along well worth it.
"Hold on tight" He announced as he increased the speed.
Beside him, Shu unconsciously clutched to his hands, his eyes focused on the appearing decorations of the city, everything was red and colourful and filled with a buzzing happiness he can't quite place. Lui safely stopped the sleigh just beside the rest of them, lined perfectly at the edge of the city. Lui was not surprised to see all of them empty. Considering the face he has several hypercreative classmates it was a giving. Lui looked down as he felt some warmth flashing through his palm. He raised his brow at Shu who was staring straight ahead, his eyes filled with excitement and genuine innocence. "Lui" He said, tugging on his arm, "Let's go!"
Lui rolled his eyes, not even bothering to hide the annoyed, yet fond smile playing over his lips as he was dragged across the streets filled with decorations. Small children ran across the streets holding into various small items and stockings coloured red and green. People passed out greetings and Lui spotted several familiar heads over the crowd and everyone was shopping gifts for their friends and to send to their families. The two walked along the snowy paths, vendors selling various things all around them. They didn't move from each other or unlace their laced fingers, instead the two were focused on wandering through the lanes with their eyes darting around. Christmas was a time where people got together after all. The peace of their minds were short-lived as a group of kids crashed against them tackling all of them to the ground.
Lui groaned, "What the hell?"
Shu elbowed him, "Lui, there's kids here"
Lui rolled his eyes as the little ones stood up giving them an apologetic look, "Sorry!" Shu looked at them, dressed in Christmas sweaters and warm clothes clutching into identical pairs of socks.
Shu smiled. He bent down to ruffle their hair fondly, "It's okay!"
One of them smiled, "Mister, you look like the younger version of Santa Clause" He cheered, "I'm going to wait for Santa today. We made cookies and milk for him!"
Lui sighed, "Listen kids, technically Santa is not-"
Shu harshly elbowed him at his side, making him stumble a few steps, "Don't" He looked back to the small kids, "Don't listen to that Krampus. Santa will come and see you two for sure! Merry Christmas Kids!"
The two smiled at him as they disappeared around the corner with their socks still clutched tightly to their hands. Shu rubbed his hands together, that was a close call, he thought, turning around to beat the shit out of Lui when he spotted the latter kneeling in front of a bunch of kids telling them something. The group of youngsters looked so disappointed over whatever the thing he was saying. Shu took a few steps forward as one of the kids spoke, his bottom lip quivering ever so slightly, "So, Santa ain't going to visit us?"
"He's not even real," Lui reasoned.
Shu attacked Lui from behind, tackling him into a harsh headlock, "He's lying!" Shu announced, a bit too louder than he initially thought that several people turned around to see the commotion.
"Oi!" Lui grumbled, pushing Shu away, "I'm just telling them the truth as it is!"
"No!" Shu scolded, "Don't ruin their innocence moron. Let them have their hopes! Santa is coming to visit them and that's the last!"
"How do you know?" Lui challenged, crossing his arms. That jerk. "Have you seen him? Or are you-" Lui gasped mockingly, "One of those elves that work in his workshop or something?"
The kids turned to him with surprised gasps, "Do you know Santa?"
Shu blinked, trying to come up with a story, "I-I actually do?" he tilted his head.
"I knew it!" One of the kids cheered, "You're his son, aren't you?"
Shu did a double take but at the moment he had to take all the steps to secure their innocence. "Yeahhhh..." He said cringing at his own thoughts, "I am here to stop this Krampus! He's spreading the evil spirit" Shu said in a hushed tone as the kids gasped, "Do you guys wanna help me to get rid of his evil spirits?"
The kids were more than willing and the next half and hour Lui was wrestling kids off his body while Shu calmly watched him from across the street with an amused grin. "I'm seriously considering to kill you" Lui glared, finally chasing off all of the little brats off him.
Shu did a dramatic bow, "Have some spirit Lui, it's Christmas!"
"Bullshit" He grumbled, "Aren't you supposed to be inside?"
"I can handle a little cold!" Shu shot back as they arrived at the frozen lake at the border of the city. Several of their classmates were already skating through the ice. Valt clumsily shrieked, clinging to Honcho as they fell down. Wakiya was laughing his butt off at the duo. Zac was sliding elegantly through the ice while Free dozed off in the corner barely even trying to mix himself with the buzzing energy around him. Shu paced around the edge of the area, not quite sure how to react when someone breathed against his ear.
"In you go" Lui grinned, pushing him into the skating area. The albino yelped as he stumbled in, various types of people skating around him at a lightning speed and he was standing in the middle without knowing anything, much less how to skate. Lui gave him a thumbs up mouthing, payback and Shu genuinely saw his life flashing by when a group of guys around eighteen skated towards him, and Shu was frozen to the ground as he realized for sure as hell he was going to die on Christmas day.
"Get out of the way" One of them screamed, unable to control their speed at the moment. Shu closed his eyes shut tightly, ready to take whatever the impact was when a pair of arms grabbed him by the waist, guiding him out of the way. Shu snapped open his eyes to see Lui staring at him, wait, did he look worried? Shu thought at a moment of hysteria.
"What the hell Snowflake, you don't know how to skate?"
Shu looked down, pouting. "I thought I told you it's my first Christmas spending outside like this!"
Lui sighed, taking both of his hands as he took Shu's by his forearm, trying to help him find the balance. "Keep your legs at a fair distance" Shu nodded, trying to balance himself on the slippery surface clinging to Lui in the process.
"O-Okay" He said, trying to take a step forward when he stumbled right back into Lui's arms. Lui swiftly caught him, wrapping one of his arms around his waist, balancing both of their bodies skillfully. "You're good at this," Shu wondered aloud.
Lui scoffed, "I have ice powers"
"Right" Shu muttered, feeling Lui's hand tracing soft circles across his skin, trying to calm him down. "Thanks" He looked into his violet eyes which seemed to put him in a trance. It was like a deep ocean was hidden behind those eyes, layers of mysteries just to be uncovered by the right person at the right time.
"You two!" Zac said waving at them, "We have to get back! Lot to be done"
Shu broke his gaze from Lui's face awkwardly clearing his throat, "L-Let's go!"
Lui matched his own awkwardness as he led Shu out of the frozen lake, realizing that both of them were having a moment back there and for god's sake he hated Christmas and moments. Especially with that certain albino snowflake. They arrived at the school with hands full of Christmas decorations and ingredients needed for cookies and cakes. The Princes were in charge of taking care of the kitchen because they all trusted Shu to make some decent food. The kitchen staff had given them half of the kitchen to make their own sweets and it did take a while to convince the headmaster to allow them in the kitchen all together with the promise that they would not burn anything down.
They all pulled out the various ingredients out of the bags and placed them neatly on the table. Zac sighed, "This Christmas got me feeling Santa-mental"
There was a long echoed silence as they respectively cringed at the pun when Free spoke, "Oh deer"
Valt chuckled, "Yule be sorry" He said looking over to Lui who looked furious at their horrible attempts to pun, "look at his resting Grinch face"
"What the actual-" Lui stopped cracking his knuckles, "You all will be sorry, stop that"
"Interesting" Xander grinned, "That look suits you Lui"
Lui's left eyes twitched, "I dare you to say one more, I'll be in for a kill"
"Hey Lui, have your-elf a merry little Christmas!" Shu winked, taking a step back ready to take precautions against the gnawing anger of the other.
"That's it" Lui said, "Get the elf out of here" He said, giving all of them an exasperated sigh.
Zac gasped, "Oh elf! Lui's in it! Everyone retreat"
There was a chorus of laughter from the rest of the chefs and the workers inside the kitchen who were busily preparing for the Christmas dinner. "You all should hurry up"
"Yes, Sir!" Zac said, walking to the ingredients. Shu took the lead of advising everyone the steps as they started. They all work in a comfortable silence for a while. Zac humming softly under his breath mixing the dough. The warm air rushing through their skin, everything was perfect when at last they were looking at the trays with still unbaked cookies and the batter for the cake.
("Okay, now" Valt said, pulling out a square shaped machine out of one of the big bags in the corner of the room. "This is an oven. We can bake it all here"
Zac gasped, "That's not even invented yet! How the hell did you find that?"
"We time traveled" Free said helping himself with some more cookie dough"
"Stop eating the cookie dough!" Shu complained.
"It was weird," Valt agreed. "There were those big buildings and all and not a soul outside. The calendar said 2020 so we borrowed one from an empty store"
Lui crossed his arms, "How the hell are you freaks gonna find electricity for that thing?"
"Eh?" Valt tilted his head.
Shu messed up his hair, "All of this is so wrong! This is an historical AU, stop messing it up for us"
"I don't even know how I know this thing's name" Valt admitted.
"The concept of electricity is not found yet either, the author should stop messing with the plot" Xander reasoned.
Zac huffed, "But this will make it easier for us to bake"
"Electricity" Lui said again, "Just take that back to wherever that shit came fro- oi Snowflake what the frick are you doing?"
Shu hummed thoughtfully warming up the oven with his fire, "Will this work if I artificially-" He didn't even get to finish his sentence as the thing caught up in flames, "I'll take that as a no" he said intelligently putting it aside, "Moving on!"
Xander burst out laughing, as Zac crossed his arms, "Author, get back to the frigging story")
Shu put the trays neatly on the stone oven used to bake anything. He bent down and lighted up the firewood just underneath it and adjusted the temperature and closed the two wooden doors setting the hourglass beside it, waiting for it to come out in perfect shape.
"What's the temperature?" Lui asked, tapping his foot impatiently against the floor. The rest of the Princes went to help out with the decorations while Lui and Shu waited to add the final touches for the cake.
"I'm not increasing anything just because you are impatient. We need this to be perfect"
"Perfect my foot" Lui grumbled looking at the baked cookies on the counter. He reached to the tray to grab one when Shu stopped him.
"Have some patience! It's for everyone!"
Lui blinked, "Look, a spider!" He said, pointing beside Shu's foot as the latter shrieked, jumping to the side. Lui took the chance from his distraction and stole one of the cookies and bit into them. He blinked as the delicious smell of chocolate chips spread through his mouth. "Oh wow"
Shu, who was frantically searching for an invisible spider, finally looked up, "You little-" He opened his mouth trying to yell at Lui when the white tyrant broke the cookie in half and put it in his mouth, stopping him down on his tracks. Shu stopped in mid sentence and stared at Lui, his lips parted the chocolate cookie almost melting in his mouth. Lui smiled, closing his mouth.
"It is quite good"
Shu munched on the treat trying to ignore the heat on his face or the fact that the jerk was smiling so softly at him like what the heck Lui wasn't supposed to know how to smile. "Yeah"
Lui tapped his fingers against the counter humming softly, "Don't you think Santa Clause is creepy? Like, it's the legend of a big fat man creeping in a cold night to the house with presents made by tiny people who stalks you throughout the year watching whether you've been good or bad"
Shu scowled, "Stop running Christmas for me!"
Lui shrugged, "I'm just telling it as it is."
"It's done!" Shu suddenly cheered, startling Lui's Krampus mood. He watched as Shu skipped to the massive oven and pulled out a perfectly baked chocolate cake out of it. He placed it on top of the counter and reached for the icing, "You wanna try?"
"No," Lui answered but Shu wasn't ready to take an answer like ''no. He reached for Lui's hand and handed him the icing tube. He looked at Shu who was watching him with an eager face as he gestured at the cake, "I might ruin this thing" he said, not quite sure whether he would be flattered that Shu is trusting him with something delicate as this. Shu got closer to him and took his hands.
"Let me help!" He said with a small smile. His lips stretched into a soft smile, his eyes shining. How does a mere mortal like him can say no to that angel, so Lui went, "Okay.. I guess? But don't blame me if I ruined this whole thing"
Shu elbowed him, "Stop being pessimistic, It's Christmas!"
"It's just another day" Lui scoffed, starting to decorate the cake. Shu's soft hands guided him through the activity. They worked in silence. Lui could feel Shu's warmth against his body, pressed tightly to his side. His fingers resting on his hands. He felt butterflies dancing inside his stomach, his heart racing ever so slightly.
"Done" Shu cheered, breaking his stance.
Lui looked at the cake. It was not perfect, he noted but he had done a pretty decent job at decorating the cake and he was sure that Shu's guidance paid off. Shu took a lid off the shelf and covered the cake. "We'll have this when it's dinner time"
Lui nodded, washing his hands as he dried them using a towel. The two of them made their way out of the kitchen to help others when Shu noted it was snowing again. "It's snowing again!"
"So?"
Shu just grinned playfully walking down the stairs and reached outside, Lui sighed and chased off the albino realizing that it would not be good for Shu to stay outside in that cold for hours. No matter how okay he seems to be, there would be a time his sickness will come back. He was about to call Shu to his senses when something soft hit squarely on his face. A shudder passed through his body as the snow sprinkled on his face. Lui opened his eyes to see Shu, grinning competitively at him with two more snowballs in his hands. When the second one came to his side, he was ready to dodge. He glared at Shu, 'You're on freak show! You don't know what's about to hit you!"
"No powers!" Shu shrieked, dashing off from Lui as he violently started throwing snowballs at Shu. Shu dodged and leaped, having no opening to attack and he knew Lui had the experience and the murderous intent to win this battle but who cares, Shu laughed, throwing his head back falling back to the snow. After a long time he was enjoying this, he was enjoying Christmas. Lui reached to him and fell back beside him, staring at the sky, the snowflakes falling over their faces.
"Lui" Shu breathed, "Don't you just love Christmas?"
Lui just hummed, "Have you ever made a snowman?"
Shut shot up into a sitting position, "No?"
"You're missing out the best parts" Lui said standing up as he helped Shu to stand up. The two of them started gathering snow as Lui advised him the steps and soon enough they were staring at a snowman without a face.
"This is creepy," Shu admitted, sticking out two pebbled to his eyes.
Lui made a sharp crystal for his nose and stuck out two branches to hands. And it started to look more like a snowman than a faceless slender man. Lui had done this many times with his sister Yuki and it was the first time he did this with someone else and seeing Shu's happiness, he was sure he didn't regret it, Well, at least until Shu sneezed. "Oh" Shu muttered, coughing.
Lui shook his head, finally dragging him out of the cold snowy fields. "To the medicine room it is"
Shu whined trying to stop coughing. His eyes watered at the attempt. "I don't want this day to be ruined!"
But Lui didn't stop until they were standing in front of a very judgmental Mitsuba who gave Shu the bitter red liquor. Shu grimaced, "Sorry Mitsuba, I should've been sensible"
Mitsuba sighed, "Drink up. This will help you to spend the rest of the Christmas just as you want"
Shu gave her a small smile and gulped down the medicine which left a foul taste inside his mouth. Lui just waited for him by the door watching Shu wished Mitsuba a merry Christmas exiting the room making a face. "That medicine ruined Christmas for me"
Lui fished out a cookie from his pocket. "Want this?"
Shu gasped, "You stole another one!" He said, nevertheless accepting the cookie. He flipped it in his hand staring at the small chips sticking out of the smooth crispy surface. He bit into the treat and stole a glance at Lui, "Want some?"
Lui raised his brow. He was not a cookie person, much less had a sweet tooth but he bent down and took a bite from the cookie in Shu's hand. "Yeah" Lui said matter of factly, licking the crumbs off his lips.
Shu stopped dead on his feet, staring at the half eaten cookie, "You-" Shu managed, "I-" He stopped again. Instead, he closed his eyes and wished for his cheeks to turn into their normal colour again.
"You're blushing" Lui pointed out boldly, "Why? Do you get the hots for me or something?"
Shu scowled, "Dream on Krampus, you're just delusional. It's just cold"
Lui shrugged following him to the main hall where everyone was decorating the Christmas tree standing in the middle of the room.
("Is that Plastic?" Shu asked, matter of factly.
"How many times do I have to tell you all, don't mess up the time slots!" Zac scolded Shu flicking his forehead softly.
"This tree is very alive" Honcho said grinning as he patted the tree, "It didn't even move to his motions"
"That's plastic" Lui said again, "You guys are using a plastic Christmas Tree in a historical au"
"The frigging fourth wall!" Wakiya said, crossing his arms. "Stop breaking it ya'll"
"Tell that to the author" Free yawned, taking out more plastic ornaments from the big box resting near the tree.
Naoki appeared out of nowhere with a cement bag and a shovel, "Dang you all. I don't get a break even on Christmas!")
The tree was shining against soft lights breaking through the windows. Zac and Akira were arranging the candles to a pattern all across the room. "I need more candles," Zac announced.
The two parted their ways to help the others. Shu crossed the room to get the box of candles as Lui reached for the box consisting of the small golden bells just near it. The two of them were about to pick them up when Sisco suddenly pointed at something, "They are standing under the mistletoe"
The two stopped dead, almost everyone stopped and turned to them. Lui looked up, "Bullshit" He muttered, looking at Shu who was still staring at the mistletoe above them.
"Kiss!" Zac cheered, clapping his hands.
"NO" Shu said, a little too quickly for his matter.
Valt pouted, "But it's the tradition"
"Over my dead body" Shu muttered again, turning to Lui who had a shit eating grin on his face. Shu stepped back instinctively, "Stay back perv"
Lui shrugged, "If you say so"
"No way!" Honcho huffed, 'You guys have to kiss"
Ruway nodded, "It's how it goes. Don't break traditions"
"Kiss Kiss Kiss" Zac cheered dancing around them and it seemed like the whole room was joining the chanting. Lui groaned looking at Shu.
"Well?"
Shu nodded hesitantly, clenching his fists. The colour rushing to his face even before the kiss as Lui stepped to him closing the space in between them. Shu's eyes fluttered close as Lui cupped his cheeks and pressed his surprisingly soft lips against Shu's. Everyone held their breath watching the two kissing. Shu felt Lui's warm lips lingering over his own for a few seconds before finally pushing away. Both of them equally flustered as they broke the kiss. "Sweet!" Zac cheered laughing giddily. "That was so cute"
"Shut up Sunshine" Shu grumbled picking up the box of candles as he walked across the room to reach Akira.
Lui averted his gaze walking to the opposite direction with the box of bells. The rest of the night was eventful. Several pairs found themselves under the mistletoe. Wakiya and Honcho kissed for longer than any of them and both of them refused to look at each other for two solid hours after that. Valt and Shu found themselves under the mistletoe, the two best friends laughed at each other as Shu leaned into kiss Valt's cheek and the other melted in the bliss of their platonic love. They had done the decorations magnificently and the only thing they had to do is place the star on the top of the tree. Xander easily reached for the top and placed a star which shone against the candles shining on the tree. Lui and Shu were sitting under the tree wrapping the gifts. Shu sighed, "You're wrapping it all up like a mess Lui! Have some neatness will you?"
Lui shrugged, "The key is to wrap them and there" He holds up an ugly looking horribly unshaped object in his hands.
"That's hideous." Shu grumbled, "Let me bring some more papers. You're ruining all of them"
Shu walked across the room just the moment Free bumped into him. There was another hushed silence before they realized they were standing under the mistletoe again. "Mistle-" Zac started just when a spike of ice came out of nowhere dropping the mistletoe to the ground. Shu yelped surprised looking at Lui who was doing jazz hands.
"My bad"
Xander snickered, "Sure"
Shu just blinked as Free walked away with a smile, "Make sure you get the guy Lui" Free said, giving him a knowing smile as Lui raged on, attacking him with ice and it took half of the room to calm down the white tyrant.
Soon, everyone was gathered beside the tables as they cheered with each other. After having a grand Christmas Feast everyone stepped out to walk to the city to see the night Christmas candle lights lighting up the city in various colours. Akarui kingdom has their own magical moments and Christmas was always one of them. Shu and Lui wandered away from the crowd and ended up near their favourite river bank giving away a magnificent view of the whole city when the climbed the small cliff beside the river. "How was it?" Lui asked, breaking the silence.
"It was nice. I think the best Christmas I ever had"
Lui smiled, reaching his hand to lace his fingers with the other. Shu didn't push him away, he gave Lui's hand a comfortable squeeze. Lui fished out a small package from his packet and it was neatly wrapped, "There"
Shu looked genuinely surprised, "You got a gift for me?"
Lui shrugged, "I guess?"
Shu took off the wrapping to reveal the replica of a Crystal Flower made of glass hooked to a small pin. Small carvings elegantly ran through the petals which were coloured in a beautiful violet, "It's beautiful" Shu breathed. Lui took it from his hand and pinned it on his hair.
"There, even better" He said, his touch on his hair lingering for a second before it limply fell to his side. Shu fished out his own pocket to present a gift. Lui raised his brow,
"You got me one too?"
Shu wordlessly nodded, dropping it into Lui's open palm. Lui unwrapped it to reveal a snow angel with a snowflake in her arms. It was also made of glass, and in tiny letters under the snowflakes was two words, Soulmate charm.
Shu flushed slightly, "I thought it looked good"
"It's pretty" Lui agreed running a finger through the see through material, "Thank you"
Shu nodded as they fell into a comfortable silence again. Lui stole a glance at Shu who was staring at the lights. He unconsciously leaned against him and recognizing Shu's surprised flushed face he stopped midways, reconsidering his thoughts when a pair of lips clashed against his. It took Lui a second to come back into his senses to realize that Kurenai Shu was kissing him. He wrapped his arms around Shu's waist as Shu's arms rested around his neck. Lui pressed him closer savoring Shu's warm, soft lips against his own. There was no one around to bother them. It was just the two of them, it was their moment. The world seemed to fade away from their visions as they basked in each other's warmth feeling the moment, living it to the brim.
Out of breath the two broke the kiss but still kept the grip on each other holding the other closer to their body. Lui leaned in and kissed Shu's scar, the slightly rough edges lingering against his lips. "You're beautiful"
Shu flushed, but didn't break eye contact, "I-" He stopped biting down his bottom lip, flustered.
Lui smiled, "I love you, Shu" He traced one of his hands across Shu's spine and reached to his cheek, he peppered kisses along his jaw and pecked his lips.
Shu basked in the other's warmth and love as the words left his mouth, "I love you too, Lui"
After all, Christmas was the time of the year where love is always in the air.
Bonus:
("You two are lovers now?" Zac asked matter of factly.
Lui grinned, "The guy is mine"
Shu flushed dark red as Zac clapped his hands. "We can finally get out of this au and live our normal life as bladers!"
"Valtryek!" Valt cheered, "I'm coming back!"
"I'm not even trying to tell them about the fourth wall," Xander said, rubbing his forehead.
"Mind you" Sisco groaned, "The author said this is just a bonus chapter. These two dorks are still pining over each other in the real story. This doesn't relate to the original"
Honcho sank to the ground dramatically, glaring at Shu and Lui. "Get hooked up fast will you?"
Shu crossed his arms, tilting his head. "It's not my fault. The author is just a crazy shipper of this ship and besides I think you'll like getting tortured in this one better than her upcoming book"
"I mean, how bad she can be?" Wakiya asked.
Naoki appeared out of nowhere, "She says she's taking it as a challenge"
"Frick" Wakiya muttered.
"You jinxed it" Honcho scolded while Valt stood beside them questioning life and becoming a straight up zombie from the lack of love from Valtryek.
"This book is also not so pretty romance" Lui grumbled, "I want some peace. Bye" He muttered, grabbing Shu's wrist as the albino blinked, realizing the murderous glare of Naoki.
"Stop breaking the goddamn fourth wall!" He said running to them with his shovel aimed at all of them.
"Crap" Shu yelled, "EVERYONE RUN!!"
No one needed to be told twice as they ran away from Naoki to save their dear lives!)
