Chapter Two

Doctor's POV

I looked at Emma carefully. She had long, straight dark brown hair, deep green eyes, and a thin face . Of course, all that shielded a ferocious personality.

She and Clara had struck up a conversation. First it was about Dragon, then-

"What did you have on your TARDIS?" asked Clara.

"I had an 'alchemy' room, which basically I create cures and antidotes for poisons and illness and all that jazz, bedrooms, I lost count of how many, and a library," Emma replied, counting the rooms off on her fingers.

"The Doctor has a library too-" Clara began, but Emma held up her hand once she heard "library". I was guessing she was remembering when I told her a didn't have one. Busted. I shuddered to think what Emma was going to think up. She had a bad temper, and was strong, too.

"What does she mean by that?" hissed Emma at my face. I avoided her eyes and said, "Ummm...."

"Were you lying to my face?" Emma asked. Honestly, how does Crystal live with her and still be here? Emma could send people to their graves with her eyes alone.

"Rule number one: the Doctor lies," I said, looking her straight in the eyes.

Crystal muttered to me, "I think breaking rule number one is quite necessary when around Emma, Doctor." Crystal had been hanging around me while Emma and Clara had their little chat. I was the only person she was comfortable around besides Emma. She was quite shy. The TARDIS loved her of course, because she treated it like it had feelings and respected it. Crystal was careful about what she touched.

I nodded in agreement to her comment. Emma turned away, her hair swinging in unison, and sat crossed-legged next to Clara. The TARDIS shuddered to a stop. "We've landed, haven't we?" Crystal asked me.

"No," said Emma sarcastically. "We're still in flight." She rolled her eyes. "Crystal, you make me question my motto."

"And that is...?" asked Crystal, eyebrows raised.

"Don't be stupid, Crystal. You know what it is."

"What if I don't?" teased Crystal. Emma glared at her until she sighed.

"There are no such things as stupid questions, only stupid people. Emma, you say that I make you question your motto with every question I say. Some questions are actually logical. Of course, you wouldn't know."

I was already dreading the bloodshed, but I prevented it by throwing open the doors. A typical town greeted us, but I knew it was no ordinary town. Emma joined my side and said evasively, "I've always wanted to come here."

"It's just a town," said Crystal.

"Not an ordinary town," said Emma, sounding like a magician, "this town is located on an asteroid, an asteroid half the size of Rhode Island, and in the shape of Texas."

"Very American," Crystal sniggered.

"Don't make fun of the United States, they proved freedom isn't free, and they've got the best economy in the world..." then Emma muttered something about the president but I didn't quite catch it. Then Emma continued, "Anyways, in the top peninsula thingy- I don't know what to call it-"

"A peninsula is land surrounded by water on three sides," corrected Crystal.

"Shut it, Crystal, I know what a bloody peninsula is, anyways, the top of it is a maze. I wonder which town we are..." Emma's voice trailed off as she pondered this question.

"The one by the maze, obviously," I said, pointing out the hedges towering over the town.

"Those are some hell of hedges," commented Clara, with a glance at Crystal. She didn't notice the cursing.

"We should go into town," suggested Emma, which seemed like the most obvious idea.

Emma's POV

It was a nice town. But what really caught our eyes was the hotel. But compared to the hedges, it was dwarfed by comparison, even though it was as tall as the Empire State Building.

God, I'm thinking too much about the U.S.

We decided to check out the hotel, which seemed like a great idea, because Crystal was dead on her feet.

"You guys continue exploring, I'll check out the hotel," I told the Doctor and Clara while practically holding Crystal. "I'll give you a call."

They nodded and Crystal and I went into the hotel.

"Hello, this is the Sweet Escape Safe Place, how may we help you?" asked the lady at the front.

"Safe place?" I questioned.

"Where beings go to to escape war or death," said the lady like she couldn't believe I didn't know what a safe place.

"Um, we're not escaping from war or death, we just need a place to stay," I said.

"We provide that too. Let me show you to your room- well, would you like to share a room or have different ones? Most siblings prefer separate rooms," said the lady.

"I'll share a room with her," I said, not questioning how she knew we were sisters. The lady nodded and stood up.

As we were walking to our room, I asked her about the hotel. Mainly, the guests. "Who else is here?" I asked.

"Four humans, I'm one, and a Dalek. Not many people come here," said the lady, whose name was Jenna.

"Dalek?!" that woke Crystal up. She hated Daleks.

"You know about Daleks?" Jenna asked incredulously.

I nodded. "We're Time Lords. You work at this hotel?"

"Oh, no, I just watch over the front desk for my sister," Jenna said quickly. "Oh, yeah, I just remembered, we've got these, well, aliens that have these little tenticles hanging out of their mouths and they carry around little orbs in their hands and-"

"The Ood?" I asked. "How many?"

"One," Jenna shrugged. "He works in the kitchen. He seems happy to work for the hotel."

"Shocker," I rolled my eyes. Crystal asked sleepily, "What's an Ood?"

"You'll meet one," I told her.

"We've got a family here," said Jenna. "Two kids, one mom. I guess that makes five humans."

"Seven guests. Wow," I said.

Jenna nodded. "Here's your room, -"

"I'm Emma, and this mush is Crystal," I said, opening the door with the key she handed me.

The hotel room was really nice. It had blue curtains, white sheets, crimsion bed spreads, a TV, some stationary and pens and pencils, a fridge, a coffee machine, and a phone. In a few words, it was like a regular hotel room. I asked her, "Can you make calls on this phone other than the front desk?"

She nodded and left. I sat down on one of the beds, then laid down. "Here we are, Crystal- wow, these beds are comfy." Then I stood up. "I'm gonna call the Doctor now."

Crystal nodded, already half asleep. "You do that."

I picked up the phone and punched in the Doctor's number. It seemed so long ago that I did the same thing instead of a few hours.

Clara's POV

"I think your phone's ringing," I told him as we walked past the closed icecream parlor. He pulled it out and answered. "Helloooo?"

I could barely hear Emma's voice. "Hey, we've checked out a room."

"A room?" asked the Doctor.

"You can check out your own room, unless of course you'd like to sleep in our second bed, because Crystal likes sleeping with me, but I'm assuming you don't want to and you can check out your own room, because if you can't, well then..." Emma's voice trailed off.

"I can check out my own room," the Doctor said.

"Oh, goody! I also just found out that it isn't a real hotel, it's- in the lady at the front desk said, her name's Jenna and her sister runs the hotel, she's just a doctor- a safe place, which is a place for refugees."

"I don't know what to say to that," said the Doctor.

"It's for freeeee," coaxed Emma.

"I don't need coaxing." The Doctor stole a glance at me. "We'll be there."

"Adios, amigo!" sang Emma. The Doctor shut his cell phone and looked at me. "Well, then..."

"Back to the hotel?" I asked.

"Back to the hotel."
