I got up. My body ached. I groaned. I slowly walked. This forest must be huge. Nothing moved. Nothing made noise. Nothing made sense. The trees were darker than darkness itself. The sky was even darker. It was almost impossible to see at all. I suddenly heard very quiet footsteps. So quiet, they hardly made a sound.

I turned towards it. "Show yourself," I told the thing. It came out of the bushes. It was a human, but not a human. It had three eyes, the extra one being on its forehead. It had fangs and blood red eyes. Its skin was scaly and it had long purple hair. It was actually taller than a normal human.

"I'm Nyx," it told me. It was a girl. She held out her hand for me to shake.

"I'm Amanda," I told Nyx, taking her hand. We shook hands.

"What are you?" I asked.

"I'm a monster with witch powers," she declared proudly. She looked at me closely. "Human, right?" asked Nyx. I nodded. She smiled. "Did you hear about the new queen?" she asked excitedly. I shook my head no. I didn't think she knew I just...fell into this world. "So, there's a new queen. Nobody's allowed to see her yet. Rumor has it she looks human, but she is actually the most powerful monster in the world," Nyx told me.

"What's her name?" I asked slowly.

"Queen Elise," Nyx answered me. I gasped. It was Mrs. Darkson!

"I know her! I have to get to her!" I blurted. Nyx blinked. She slowly smiled and rubbed her hands together.

"Lucky for you I have a reputation to break in places," she admitted.

"Oh no," I sighed. Nyx laughed evilly, although it sounded fake. She grabbed my hand.

"Let's go!" she exclaimed. She led me through the forest. I could hear things now. The quiet rustling of leaves. Footsteps, although they were always scampering away from us. Nyx had an iron grip on my hand. She led me through the maze of trees. "Okay, let's see, oh! There's that path!" she told me once. I was looking at nothing. Just trees. That's all I ever saw. Nyx must have had some super vision.

Nyx suddenly stopped. "It's getting late. Do you want to rest?" she asked me. I nodded. My feet ached and my hand hurt from her grip. She let go of me. I sighed as she started pulling branches of the trees. She was strong. She laid them in a pile. Next, she put leaves on the pile. Nyx suddenly made a potion in a glass bottle. It was bright orange and was bubbly. It was the brightest thing is the world to me. "Watch out," she told me. I stepped back. She drank the potion all at once. She sucked in air, and blew out fire. The pile she made turned into a crackling camp fire. I smiled and sat near it. Nyx sat next to me.

"Nyx, can you tell me more about this place?" I asked. I looked at her.

"It's a long story," she told me.

"We have time," I replied.
