Prologue
I can still remember the day it happened. It all started with an explosion...
She opened the door to the bathroom of the small café and thought about that day when she stood unaware in the smoke and fire. The sky above her was red as blood, plumes of fire shot past her. Abandoned by all the world, she had to fight her way through the soot spread in the air and the smell of sulfur.
I was alone. Abandoned by the whole world. And I felt incomplete... So torn...
Confused and thoughtful, she leaned on the sink and turned on the faucet. The girl closed her eyes for a moment and listened to the running water, which calmed her.
I was different from other people. Everyone I've met so far... They've all been afraid of me. And that even though I couldn't even do anything about it...
One of the toilet stalls opened and a woman stepped out. Her eyes immediately went to the girl.
"Are you okay?" the woman asked in a slightly worried voice when she noticed the girl leaning against the sink. She didn't give an answer. Instead, she pulled a crumpled photo out of her pocket. It depicted two people, a boy and a girl. The boy had brown hair, the girl's was dyed cobalt blue.
They made a silly face in the photo. Had fun together. Were happy...
The girl's free hand balled into a fist, anger bubbling throughout her body.
A man told me where I came from. And who is to blame for what made me THIS...
"Young lady?" the woman tried to speak to her again. This time the girl glanced sideways without moving her head.
"There's nothing wrong with me.." she answered and now turned her head completely to the woman, who put her hand over her mouth as if she were seeing an incredibly scary monster. "I am doing well."
The woman began to panic. To scream and grab the doorknob to escape.
But that didn't bother her. She would rather be alone than in the same room with someone who didn't accept her for who she was.
I didn't know what was so frightening about me... Until I noticed it myself and saw myself for the first time.
She cast her gaze down to the reflective surface of the large puddle of water in the sink. With the hand holding the photo, she turned off the faucet so she could see herself more clearly. And then she frightened herself. In front of her own face...
Anger coursed through her veins like blood. She immediately hit the puddle of water with her shaking fist. Ice-cold drops of water splashed in all directions.
And now that I know it, I'm only after this one thing that I deserve.
She had golden blonde hair that reached her shoulder blades. Plus two sky blue, beautiful eyes. However, the upper left quarter of her face was missing. Shards of her skin, her face, floated in the air, close to the missing spot and seemed to follow her no matter where she went. She placed one of her shaky but gentle hands on the entire side of her face and stroked her cheek, staring at the surface of the water, which was still making ripples from her stroke.
Revenge...
