August 31st Trinidad and Tobago Independence Day.
In Trinidad and Tobago on August 31st 1962,
the country gained its independence,
at midnight on August 30th,
the British flag made its final appearance.
Trinidad and Tobago became an independent nation on August 31st 1962. Many festivities took place to celebrate the end of rule by Great Britain, those went from August 28th to September 5th. Each year on this date there are parades, National Awards Ceremony and of course fireworks. The music for the parades is performed by the Protective Services, Army, Police, Fire and Prison Officers which also includes a 21 gun salute. After the parade comes the calypso music from the people with singing an dancing. The final event is the firework display which takes place at Queen's Park Savannah in Port of Spain, Trinidad and at the Port Authority Compound in Scarborough in Tobago.
