Today is to draw attention to those,

abducted and illegally held captive,

after being tortured during interrogation,

sadly they are not allowed to live.

Today was created to remember all those individuals imprisoned in terrible conditions and their location unknown to their relatives and legal representatives. Those missing may be held in foreign countries, hospitalised, being tortured or dead. The International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance came into effect in 2010. The hope is that this will help prevent  enforced disappearances but if this does happen then relatives and survivors will receive justice.
