Today is Moldova Independence Day,

in which they celebrate the birth of their nation,

in 1991 they broke away from the Soviet Union,

no longer under their administration.

Each year the President makes a speech.

there are sports events and exhibitions,

there is a concert in the National Square,

all keeping with their lasting traditions.

The Republic of Moldova is situated between Romania and Ukraine. It was in 1940 that the Soviet Union annexed the country so becoming a territorial entity of the Soviet Union. On August 27th 1991 Moldova declared its independence from the Soviet Union and on March 2nd gained membership to the United Nations.
