In the night, I was lying awake, scared that the past could follow me into my dreams like it had before.

"Nic!", Kara's voice hissed out of the dark. I turned around to face her.
"What is it?"
"Didn't I promise that I would take you with me for stealing next time?"
I was more awake than ever. "Yes?"
"Come with me." She crept out of the tent and I followed her. Finally! I had been waiting for this!

It was pretty hard to follow Kara in the dark woods, but I made it somehow. From time to time, I thought I had lost her, just to hear her steps right in front of me and see her silhouette against the moonlight a second later. At once, she stopped out of nothing. I almost bumped into her.
"There we are.", she whispered.
I looked past her and was kind of disappointed. The "village" was actually just three small houses on a clearing.
Kara crouched down and started creeping over to the houses.
"What are you waiting for? The sun?", she hissed as she noticed I was still standing on the same spot as before. "Follow me!"
"S-Sure."
I followed her and we stopped in front of the first house. Kara turned around to me, put her finger over her lips and pointed at - the cellar windows! Of course! She pushed against it. Locked, obviously. Kara took out a long, thin something and slid it under the window. Then, she made some weird movement with her hand and... The window opened. We got inside to see tons of sacs! Kara and I went over to them to open some of them. I gasped. Potatoes! Nuts! Beans! And lots of other food!
"Come on!", Kara whispered. "Get some of the sacs and then let's go!"
I nodded, grabbed one of the sacs and-
I heard a loud thud from the window.
