Chapter 5
"So... These are Russula paludosa. Edible." Kara pointed at some mushrooms that had a color of something between red and purple. "Let's take some with us." She cut them off and put them into one of her pockets on her belt.
A few days had passed since I had accidentally poisoned myself with some poisonous fungus. And since Kara had saved me. I was able to walk and run again, so she showed me edible and inedible plants.
"And here: Celandines." She picked a few yellow flowers. "You can eat them and they're really healthy. But don't mistake them for crowfoots."
"Why do you know the Latin names? Aren't they hard to remember?" I asked, impressed by her knowledge.
"I don't really think it's hard, no. Why?"
"I don't know. I propably wouldn't remember them."
She shrugged. "Maybe."
Which was the end of the conversation. She kept on explaining things I couldn't really remember and I tried to at least keep in mind which plants I could eat and what they looked like. But the Latin names? No. Forget it.
Later, when we were sitting in Karas tent, she showed me how to combine the plants. I tried a salad(not like these sad salads made of a few salad leaves and that was it, it looked way more creative) and wow, it was very good!
"Wow, Kara, how did you do this? It's great!"
She actually smiled. "Well... I got experience. And I know which food to combine to get something tasty and healthy."
"I really didn't think it was gonna be like this! Can you write down the recipe or something?"
"It's really easy. You just have to combine several good plants that fit together and... That's it."
"If you say so."
We were interrupted by a scream. Kara jumped up. It was the scream of a dying animal.

A/N: Word count: 309! Which animal is dying and why? How is Kara going to react? So many questions - and I don't know the full answers myself... We'll see in the next chapter! Stay tuned!
