Hire more people
This shift was a doozy. I was scheduled 8:30 am to 4 pm. Not a bad time honestly but I do prefer night shifts since I like my coworkers. Which by the way, we just had 4 people fired. Anyways, I clock in at 8:25 am and I start working on chips. I made 12 full hotel pans of chips I just didn't have time to bag them since my manager sent everyone on break so we'd all be back before opening the store.
There was only one troublesome customer, but I don't really think it was her fault until my manager escalated it. She was asking about the price for tacos, and he just said a rough estimate without even checking first even though I could pull up the exact price. She is saying $13 for three tacos and I know that's not right. My manager just throws his hands up and says "I don't have time to deal with this s--t!" and walks off. I help on salsa to try to get the line moving. I get two orders of their tacos done and ring it up and then my coworker on line asks if I could put the next order of tacos in a bowl while he starts the next order and of course I agree. This lady is literally yelling at me "How much!" Like, I'm helping someone right now, give me just a second. Then my manager is walking past to put rice on DML and she yells the same thing at him and snaps her fingers. He gets upset and yells back "Does it look like I'm doing cash right now? She'll ring you up" and walks off again. He's not helping the situation at all. I get the two orders of tacos rung up and tell them their total, I think it was $32 something since they got two drinks, steak tacos w/ guac, and al pastor tacos w/ guac. They yell at me about the prices and I explain how it's that much and she tells me that's not how much my manager said it was going to be. I print off a preview of the receipt for them to see and they try to argue but end up paying anyways.
Everything else was fine up until three rolled around. My manager and my other two coworkers were leaving which only left me and my favorite manager who just came in. I was stuck with doing both the line and cash while my manager hopped between online orders, grill, prep, and dishes. Most of the customers were nice during the hour until another coworker clocked in and hopped on the online orders. Just before 4, my manager asked me if I could stay until 6 when my other coworker gets there. I agreed of course because I'd feel bad if I left them all alone with a line out the door, orders off the screen, and nothing cooked.
My coworker who was doing online orders had to stop to help with dishes so no online orders were being done while I was doing the line. I help this older couple, they were really nice and understanding, they called me a team player for staying over. Then I get to the next people and this is how that went:
*me walking over to them*: "Hi, what can I get started for you?"
*Mother being passive aggressive*: "How about hiring more people?"
*Me laughing a bit as a stress response*: "That would be nice. So what can I get for you?"
*She rolls her eyes and starts her order. scoffs when I have to grab her protein from DML because my other manager left us nothing before leaving at 3. Pauses after getting her protein*: "Do you not have the peppers and onions?"
*me trying to just get her food done and move on with my life*: "No, sorry, we didn't have time to get them prepped"
*Lady scoffs and makes comments about never having them and blah, blah, blah. Get the rest of her salsas and then looks at the empty guac pan*: "and I want guacamole on there"
*me just trying to get this lady out of here so I go look on DML for any guac. There's only like 4 more servings so I wasn't going to give any to her. I walk back over to the main line*: "We're out of guac as well"
*She looks to her family and scoffs*: "Now they're out of guacamole too. This is unbelievable." *Turns back to me* "Just give me the rest of it"
*I scrape the rest of the guac out and go to put it on her already overflowing bowl. I swear I didn't do it on purpose, I think it was the universe serving justice. The guac falls off the bowl and she does an annoyed laugh. She totally deserved it.*
*I put her food on the tray and go to ring it up because there was five of them and I didn't want to forget something and not charge them for it. I go to swipe the card and she gets all upset with me saying*: "I have way more orders"
*Me over with her BS*: "I know, I'm just ringing yours up right now so I make sure not to leave anything out"
The rest of her group wasn't any better and I get them rung up and send them on their way without even saying a good day. I tell people I like to have a great/ wonderful day, people who get on my nerves a good day, but the worst of the worst who makes me really question why I'm still at this job nothing.
I'm able to hold out until 6:30ish. My other coworker clocked in at 6 but I wanted to make sure to knock the line out and restock before I left. I made sure to tell both my coworkers to not die and to not do anything that would put them in jail.
After work I stopped at Dutch Bros because I had enough points for a free drink and I think I deserved it after that shift.
