Chapter 7.

"We ran out so I went to get some with Noah..."I explained timidly, trailing off as he continued to glare vexingly at me.

"Noah." he seemed to almost growl the name, "You were slacking off with him, weren't you?" he accused.

"No!" I denied.

I could hear my whispering co-workers from the office desks and it seems so did Zach, because, if it were possible, he seemed to get even more annoyed. Without saying another word, he grabbed my elbow and began dragging me along. I scowled, trying to push him away but he was too strong.

Zach slung me into his office first before slamming the door behind him and storming toward me. I backed off a little as he looked at me indignantly.

"Tell me-" he began with annoyance clear in his tone of his voice, "If you weren't slacking off with Noah, why was he so close to you in the kitchen?"

"He was just grabbing his coffee." I answered simply, frowning at him.

"Do you really expect me to believe that?" he sneered, unimpressed.

"Believe what you want, I don't care." I snapped, crossing my arms across my chest.

"I won't have you whoring around my office, it makes my company look bad." he snarled.

My jaw dropped and if looks could kill, he would have been six foot under the ground and my blood boiled the longer I looked at him.

"We're just friends!" I yelled.

"Of course, that's why you were in the kitchen like that together!" he bellowed, making my bones shake with fear but I shrugged it off as I glared at him angrily.

"Like what?!" I asked, imagining daggers stabbing him in every direction.

"Like-" He cut himself off with a deep sigh, then stood staring at me silently for a moment, pinching the bridge of his nose before pressing his lips together in frustration.

"Just- do your work. Take these to the photocopying room." he muttered sternly, pushing some papers into my chest. I snatched them from his hand and glared at him one more time.

"Gladly." I huffed before storming out of the room.

What the hell crawled up his backside? I thought as I slammed the door behind me.

For the rest of the day Zach ordered me around twice as much and he was in a seriously bad mood. I just ignored him and his bad attitude until it was finally time for me to go home. I almost did a happy dance, but I knew that if I did my heels would hurt even more.

"Hurry up." he ordered as he strode out of his office, leaving me to hurry after him in my painfully high heels. I almost fell twice but he didn't seem to notice - either that or he just didn't care. We got to his car and he slid inside, leaving me to hurry to the other side and clamber into the passenger seat. I bit my lip awkwardly as we sat in silence.

While he drove I found myself glancing in his direction discretely. Strands of hair fell carelessly over his forehead and his jaw was clenched. My eyes dragged down his flawless profile; admiring the angles of his face structure, his sharp cheekbones and full lips. His dark eyes suddenly flickered in my direction, catching me as I ogled him like an idiot, my mouth open slightly, before he looked back towards the road.

I quickly looked out of the window in embarrassment and I felt like smacking myself in the face. Arrogant prick. Arrogant prick. Arrogant prick...

Once we arrived at my house I got out as fast as I could without looking back and stormed into my house, ignoring the deep goodbye he muttered after me. I kicked off my heels and winced as I realised I had blisters around my ankles and on my heels.

"Stupid heels. Stupid job. Stupid-" I ranted to myself before I heard my Mum call from the living room.

"Is that you, Louise? How did your first day of work go?" she asked cheerfully.

Like hell. I thought, but stopped myself from letting the words slip out of my mouth.

"It was okay." I replied simply before making my way upstairs and collapsing on to my bed.

I sighed and stretched into a starfish position face down into my sheets. How was I supposed to survive another day working for that big headed prick, never mind pay off the damage to his stupid expensive car?

For the rest of the week Zach had been making me do the same pitiful jobs just to make my life miserable. I was beginning to detest this rich snob of a man and the worst part of it all was the fact he didn't seem at all fazed by my presence at all.

I also hadn't seen Noah for the whole week too; he seemed to be spending much more time down at the recording studios, much to my disappointment. If I didn't have a decent conversation soon my soul would be lost forever amongst boring papers.

"File these for me." Zach ordered nonchalantly as he handed me a neat pile of documents.

I did as I was told without any complaints and strode to the other side of the room to place them in the filing cabinet. I held in a hiss as I tried my hardest not to be affected by the ridiculously high heels scraping against my skin.

My feet were covered in plasters to shield my blisters from the friction of the heels and it was beginning to get me down. I could have refused to wear them, but since I was in debt with Zach he would probably kick off with the fact I wasn't 'chic' enough for the company.

"Thanks." he muttered curtly as he began signing different contracts. I stood in front of his desk, feeling the heels dig into my skin. I bit my cheeks to suppress a noise when he looked up and raised an eyebrow.

"You can have a break if you like." he told me simply before he lifted the cup of his fresh coffee I'd made only moments ago to his lips. I hated the way his dark chocolate eyes scanned my every move; it made me extremely self conscious. My body burned as he stared at me intensely for a few seconds before his gaze flicked back to his desk and he cleared his throat.

"Thank you." I murmured politely. My eyes lingered on him, silently approving of his handsome appearance. I bit my lip and turned around quickly before he could see the blush rising to my cheeks. What the hell was wrong with me? He's the devil in disguise!

I shook off my bizarre thoughts and quickly strode out of the room. Everyone was chattering in the office as I made my way through when I saw Melinda hurry over to me.

"Lou!" she came over to me with a huge grin, "Noah asked me to tell you to meet him in the recording studio."

The way she accentuated each word made me feel like the information she was sharing was as top secret as the Pentagon.

"Oh." was all my remarkable brain could come up with. Melinda gave me a wink before tottering off back to her desk.

I sauntered across the room to the elevator as I retraced my steps, remembering the quick guide Melinda had gave me the first time I arrived. The metal doors dinged open, showing me inside the expensive lift that was so big and nicely decorated it may as well have been another room. It was empty as I floundered inside, still under constant harassment from my heels from hell with every step I took.

My finger pushed the ground floor level and I stood patiently waiting for my destination to arrive. Shortly after the doors opened to let me out and I exited the elevator before heading to the vaguely familiar corridor Melinda had trotted through beforehand with me trailing behind.

A brunette woman was suddenly striding towards me fiercely, her dark brown eyes lit up in agitation as she held her phone to her ear. Her lips pursed together as she spoke and I couldn't help but overhear since she was speaking so loudly.

"You have got to be kidding me-" she let out a frustrated huff, "I don't care if he has a meeting with the Queen; I don't need an appointment to see my own brother! This is ridiculous!"

She looked up just before she crashed into me and gave me an apologetic smile as she diverted around me timidly, "Excuse me." she said softly. I returned her smile as I let her past and saw her stalk right into the elevator I'd just came from.

I wandered absentmindedly down the corridor, peeking through the small window on each door to the recording studios Typical. Noah asks me to meet him in a recording studio but doesn't even tell me which one he's in. I noticed they all had silver number plates beside the doors as I walked, trying my hardest to ignore the stinging sensation from my blisters. Ten. Twelve. Thirteen. I read the numbered rooms as I searched before finally spotting the back of a familiar blonde's head.

A few other people were in the room with different instruments and I watched as Noah stood up and turned to the side to talk to them. He laughed at something and smiled as he spoke, using his arms as he spoke but I couldn't hear anything through the door. He looked as charming as ever in a pale blue shirt rolled up to his elbows, some black trousers with glossy black shoes and his giving him a casual but smart appearance. After a minute he saw me out of the corner of his eye and turned to give me a grin as he beckoned me inside.

I shyly opened the door, not wanting to intrude.

"Hey Lou!" he greeted me with a big toothy grin. "I'm just finishing up here, give me a minute and I'll be right with you."

I nodded and stood as I watched him talk to the band, I tried not to listen in to let him get on with his work. A few moments later, he ushered them out of the room with playful shoo motions.

"I'll see you all tomorrow! Don't get too drunk!" he bellowed after them with a laugh before turning to face me, his grey eyes sparkling.

"Now, you have my full attention. Was there anything you wanted to talk about? Is Zach still giving you a hard time? " he fired questions at me in concern, sitting down on a chair backwards, his arms folded on the top as he stared at me.

"Uh..." I trailed off, feeling nervous under his weirdly intrigued expression. "Melinda said you wanted me-"

Then it clicked.

Her suggestive tone and that wink she gave me before she went back to her desk...

I groaned. She'd set me up.

Noah raised an eyebrow for a moment in confusion but a smirk followed shortly after as I stood there awkwardly, wishing for the floor to just swallow me whole.

"I see Melinda is having fun impersonating cupid." he chortled, his eyes glistening with amusement.

"Apparently so." I commented, a little disappointed Noah hadn't actually wanted to see me for anything in particular and my heart shrivelled in disappointment. We lapsed into silence for a moment until he cleared his throat.

"Well, I've just got on my break and as much as I love my job, I really don't want to spend it in here." he grinned and I watched as the dazzling blonde stood up. I laughed as he held his hand out in an old fashioned manner, again imitating a posh accent.

"Shall we go?" his stormy grey eyes twinkling with mischief. I rolled my eyes before placing my hand in his, letting him lead me out of the recording studio.
