Chapter 5.

Eventually, after a very awkward journey, we arrived at an extremely tall and modern building. It was mostly glass, showing the exquisite reception area with exotic plants and black leather couches for people waiting. I gawped at the posh building. A middle aged woman sat behind a sleek desk and she gave Zach a welcoming smile as he strode in. I followed closely behind, struggling to keep up in the newly bought heels. They hurt my feet a little but I didn't want to complain since they had cost so much for him to buy - there was no other option but to suffer in silence.

"Good evening, Mr Caldwell." she greeted and he gave her a curt nod. She looked over at me gave me a small smile. "So you're the new personal assistant!"

I nodded sheepishly and Zach sighed, looking at his watch quickly before speaking.

"Melinda, can you show Miss Whitlock around the building? I have a meeting I need to go to." he asked, but it was more of an order.

"Certainly, sir." she nodded, giving me a bright smile before gesturing me to follow her, "Come on dear! I don't want you getting lost!"

I followed the small plump woman as she lead the way down a corridor. The heels were starting to really hurt my feet but I shrugged it off and let her explain what everything was. She pointed to her right as she beamed at me.

"That's one of our recording studios - most of the rooms down this corridor are used for production purposes." she explained and I nodded before we turned a corner and she pressed the button for the elevator.

We stepped inside and she gave me a warm smile, "What did you say your name was, dear?" she asked.

"Lou." I answered politely, "Well, Louise, but I prefer Lou."

"Well, Lou, it's nice to have a new face! I mean, Noah always brightens up the office but he spends most of his time in the production studios now so we don't see him as often." she told me honestly before knitting her brows together.

"But I have to admit, I'm quite curious as to why Zach has given you the job of his personal assistant."

I looked at her, a little confused. "Why?"

"Oh! It's nothing to do with you dear! It's just that he's never had one, that's all. I'm just wondering why he suddenly wanted a personal assistant now. He's a very reserved character with quite a temper, anyone who knows him like Noah and I would rather jump in a pool of electric eels than be his personal assistant!" she chortled.

The colour drained from my face. Was he really that bad?

She seemed to read the expression on my face of pure dread.

"Don't worry! I'm sure you'll do fine honey." she gave me an encouraging smile, nudging my arm softly.

The elevator came to a halt and we stepped into an equally as sleek corridor. Melinda led me down the hall way and showed me the offices on the first floor. She showed me around and after half an hour we went back up in the elevator before stepping out onto the second floor.

"This is the second floor, where most of our staff work. The conference room is over there, Mr Caldwell's office is that way and I'll be right at that desk if you have any questions." she pointed to various different places before finishing with her desk.

"Okay, thanks." I smiled then frowned, "But what do I do now?"

"Well, Zach always likes coffee after his meetings which should end in about..." she trailed off as she checked her watch, "Five minutes. He likes it strong, but not black with only one sugar got that honey?"

I gave her a nod, "Strong but not black with one sugar, got it."

"Thank god, it's nice to have someone who I don't have to repeat everything twice to." she laughed, "The kitchen is there for the coffee so I'm sure you'll be able to handle it from there? If not, you know where I am." she gave me a broad smile before heading over to her desk.

Determined to be professional despite the fact I was working for a pompous asshole, I strode confidently to the kitchen, gaining a few looks from the people in the office. I felt a little self conscious when I saw some of the younger men shamelessly staring at my legs and up to my behind as I walked.

I blushed and quickly walked into the kitchen. It was fairly small but practical with clean granite counter tops and wooden cabinets. I found the kettle and switched it on as I prepared his coffee.

"Strong but not black, one sugar, strong but not black and one sugar..." I chanted to myself as I grabbed the coffee and scooped out a generous spoonful before plopping it into a glossy black cup.

I groaned, realising I was making my boss coffee. How cliché.

The bubbles gurgled wildly in the kettle, letting me know it had boiled as I poured a little bit of milk into the bottom of the cup.

My mood dropped when I remembered I had to work for Zach until my debt to him was paid off. Sighing, I poured the hot water into the cup, watching the coffee and milk swirl together before blending into a dark brown.

"Strong but not black." I grinned in triumph to myself, then mentally slapped myself for being so happy at such a small victory. "I may not be a bad personal assistant after all."

Carefully picking up the cup, I walked slowly out of the kitchen and looked at Melinda. She gave me a nod while thumbing over to Zach's office. I looked down proudly at my cup of coffee as the strong aroma met my nose.

"Strong, but not black with one sugar." I repeated quietly. I frowned for a moment, looking down at the coffee.

"I forgot the sugar." I huffed, cursing to myself before turning around only to see a tall figure right in front of me. I jumped in shock then panicked immediately when the coffee sloshed around in the cup. My breath caught in my throat as I silently prayed it wouldn't spill.

I let out a sigh with relief as the coffee settled to its original level.

"Whew." I breathed before looking up to see a familiar blonde grinning down at me.

"Lou! You're here!" Noah greeted happily, his eyebrows raising as he gave me a once over. "You look...smart." he laughed.

I glared at him, "You nearly made me spill the coffee!"

"Aw, not even a hello? Haven't you missed me?" he whined, giving me puppy dog eyes.

"Hello, Noah." I rolled my eyes as he smirked at me.

"Sorry about the coffee," he smiled sheepishly as he walked with me to the kitchen as I put some sugar in the coffee.

"It's okay, it didn't spill." I reassured him, before glancing over to Zach's office. "But I should probably take this to him before he decapitates me."

Noah chuckled before nodding, "Alright then, see you later." he winked and I almost dropped the coffee again.

Why was he so gorgeous?!

Making my way over swiftly, I reached Zach's office door. I bit my lip nervously before raising my hand to knock but it swung open before my knuckles even touched the wood. Zach stood in the doorway and looked at me with a bored look before turning around.

"You can put it on my desk." he told me abruptly as he strode inside, sitting down in his large black leather chair. I pressed my lips together in frustration at his simple sentence.

"Not even a thank you?" I dared to say, raising an eyebrow as I walked over in the painful heels before putting the coffee down on the desk. He gave me a disbelieving look.

"Do I even need to mention the fact that the only reason you're working here is because you damaged my car?" he asked plainly before adding, "And I bought you them clothes you're prancing around the office in."

I huffed angrily, "You ran me over! Plus, I told you I could have gotten cheaper clothes!"

"I wouldn't have ran you over if you were actually looking where you were going." he countered before leaning back in his chair, "And besides, I had to get you the clothes. I didn't really want you walking around in cheap clothes, it makes my company look bad."

"Well, I don't really care about your company, I'm only here because I have to be." I snapped, turning around quickly before storming out of his office.

Prick. I cursed in my head.

I heard the door suddenly open behind me, making me turn around to see a very smug Zach leaning against the doorway, a playful glint taunting me in his eyes.

"And where do you think you're going? You have work to do as my personal assistant...Miss Whitlock." he sniggered.

Double prick.

Scowling at him, I balled my hands into fists before reluctantly walking back into his office with a face like thunder.

I was going to end up killing him.
