Mirror III
Turn the corner, enter the room
And gaze upon a figure
A stranger
Reflecting as it smiles
You smile back
Wave, quick motions
See the face, the sculpted lips
The angled nose and piercing eyes
Pupils black
Colors bright
Winking and glinting and foreign
Strong shoulders back
Tall posture high
Poised and toward the sky
Lifted chin
Arching brow
Grown and tougher still
Curling fists and palm pressed forward
Hand to hand you stand
Touch your smile
Stranger does too
And watch the tears roll down
Brush at skin, twist at hair
For now, impossibly fair
A new-furnished face
A strong set stride
Grown and foreign inside
Gaze upon the figure
The stranger
Still turn to leave
To memorize
The shapes, the lines
That curve and collide
To form the you, the foreign you
That stands inside
The mirror
