Depths
summerguest701 Your words inspired me, and this is my own take on that idea—perhaps a bit different than yours or perhaps the same.
An ever-reflective pool that's as deep as it is wide,
So far that you can't see the other shore with your mere eyes,
And yet you think that it's reflective surface is what's real,
But you know nothing of the depths that I will always feel.
This place is not a physical or tangible existence,
You can never find its secrets or its lies without persistence,
For unless you truly know me and see through my two eyes,
You'll never know the truth, or the depths of my own mind.
While gazing through its waters you might accidentally see
A glimpse of color, shadow, light, or even a memory,
But that image is distorted by a reflection in the night,
Do not mistake my darkness for the reflection of your light.
To traverse its treacherous waters you must never go alone,
But if you listen carefully I'll guide you toward my home,
A sunken city beneath the lake that houses my true thoughts,
I hope that you might make the journey before I get too lost.
This lake might be a prison though I think that I can leave,
I've just never really tried it—never wanted to be free,
Although my greatest desire is to soon be clearly seen,
I cannot risk escaping the depths and losing this place that is me.
