Prisoner.
You have the key to my heart.
But an eternity has passed
Since the last time you opened that door.
Spider webs now cover the entrance
Intricate patterns of soft white thread,
Bound together, somehow stronger than we ever were.
Birds have begun to nest, blocking the entrance of
The one solace you used to seek.
They caw and they squawk.
I try to scare them away with the beating of my heart,
Like sweaty palms against hollow wood,
But my heart beats only for you.
You are gone.
So I become a place all sorts of creatures call home,
All except for you.
The void you left in me remains
Unfilled and unfulfilled:
I am trapped, knowing only my love for you.
I cannot open the door, which has now been plugged
By the moss and the ivy that has grown since the last time
I was in your arms.
I cannot escape you.
I am encased inside myself,
A prisoner to your love.
