4: "Dancing Shoes"

George had put on Chuck Berry's Around and Around. It was a very nice song, and I liked it a lot, especially since it reminded me of my grandma when she would play Chuck Berry on the weekends.

As George went to get drinks, All the guys got up to dance, trying to get me to dance. John was dancing so ridiculously, I nearly fell over from laughing. Ringo was nodding his head and clapping to the beat while Paul was just doing his thing.

Paul danced his way over to me, and pulled me from my seat. " No, I'm terrible at dancing!" I lied. I mean I wasn't bad, but I also wasn't really good at dancing. I only really know how to dance ballet.

He stood in front of me and told me just twist my hips and to try to have fun. He started off and I followed his lead. He smiled and swung my hands in his. I felt so shy and weird to be dancing with him. We both couldn't keep our eyes off each other as we danced.

We stopped and hopped on to the couch, completely out of breath.

" So, I wanna know more about ya. Do you have any talents?" Paul asked sitting so closely.

" Well... I'm a dancer." I said shyly.

" Oh. What type of dancer?" He said, getting closer as he got more interested. I pushed him away just a little bit and continued.

" I'm a ballet dancer." I blushed.

" Well, you twist quite fine for a ballet dancer." He smiled. I giggled and nudged his arm.

He nodded as I kept talking about my other small talents like, drawing and painting, and a little of piano and guitar.

George came in with an arm full of beers, " Alright guys, after a few drinks and few songs, we'll go have dinner for both John and Alice's birthday. How does that sound?" He said as he began to set them down.

Everyone agreed and grabbed a bottle. We chatted and got to know each other a little more. It made me a bit more comfortable that they knew more about me than before. They seemed so open and understanding.

" Alice, have ye ever fancied someone?" Asked Ringo.

I paused and shyly stared down at my hands. " Once... I liked him a lot, before..." Sighed. Tears started to burned my eyes and memories came back to me. I swallowed and looked up at them. I quickly gave a wide smile and shook my head." He was a jerk... that's all."

" A jerk, huh?" Paul took out a napkin and handed it to me." Did he break your heart?"

I took it and wiped a tear that rested on my cheek." Yeah... It's silly. I'm fine, honestly."

" You don't deserve anyone like that anyways." Said another voice. I looked and saw George with his arm around me. He looked down at me and wiped the tear that trickled down my cheek.

Ringo patted my back " You don't need anyone like that, Alice. He sounds like a real loser." I smiled and chuckled softly at his comment.

Things stayed a bit quiet before John hopped off the sofa and stared at the clock." Well! Looks like we've got a reservation to get to. Ye all ready?" He said eagerly.

Everyone got up, including me, and started to get things ready. George's shirt was tear-stained and dirty from my eyeliner. I quickly apologized and offered to clean it off, but he just said that it was okay and that he'll just change.

I went back to the bathroom and cleaned my face. After wiping the ridiculous makeup off, I just stood there, staring at myself. My hair, my face, my cloths. So much change, in very little time.

' How did this happen? Why am I here? Is this a dream?' I kept asking myself. No answers popped into my head.

I heard my name being called and hurried downstairs. George was holding my coat that we got, and my new shoes.  I took them and put them on my feet. As we headed out the door, thunder had crashed and it started to rain lightly.

" Let's hurry, before we miss our reservations." Paul said.

Everyone rushed to the car and we drove off to the restaurant they made reservations for. I stared out the window and admired my new surroundings. I occasionally would point out things in awe, and have Paul tell me what they were called, and the building names.

We arrived at the most fanciest place that I have ever been to. I mean, it looked very top-notch and elegant. I felt underdressed, but Paul  told me,

" It's alright. Ye look beautiful. And besides, some of the people here are a bit too posh." He chuckled. I nodded and laughed lightly.

We got seated immediately and began to order drinks. Everyone seemed to have gotten either a lager or some cocktail. I didn't want to get anything pricey, so I asked for water.

" Oh come on, Alice! Get sometin' nice, it's ye birthday." Ringo suggested. He told the waiter to get me something, but I couldn't hear him say what.

The boys chatted away and discussed different topics. The drinks came and we heard a voice from the front desk.

" John!" We looked over where the voice was.

Cynthia was heading towards our table, holding a swaddled child which I assumed was Julian. John was happy to see his wife and child, and he stood up to hold them both and kissed each of their cheeks.

I smiled since they looked so adorable together.

" Uh, Cyn, this is Alice. Alice, ye might know Cynthia and little Julian." I shook hands with her and smiled sweetly at the baby.

She was so nice, and friendly. She leaned over to John and said to him," She looks just like her! Like a twin!" She whispered loudly. John shushed her and told her to sit and not talk about " it".

Who is 'her'? I thought. I felt that it was weird that she said that.

After ordering food, me and Cynthia started to connect a bit more. She told me how she met John and how she had went out earlier to get Julian more clothes, since he has out grown some of his own. I held Julian in my arms, and watched him yawn and make quiet noises. Just the ordinary baby stuff.

"He's so adorable... You must be so proud." I told her. She smiled and reached out to hold him. She un-swaddled him and gave him to John, who was more than eager to hold his son.

" You know, I should get going. I have go and catch a cab home." Said Cynthia.

John grabbed her wrist." But why? Have dinner with us, darling, it's cold out anyways. Besides, it's my birthday." John gave a sad face. She had a worried look on her face. That died down to a for relaxed expression. " Okay then. I'll need a minute though, to feed Julian privately."

" Alright then, off you go. Love ya." He kissed her cheek. She hurried off to someplace else, and disappeared behind a corner.

We stood quiet for a second, leaving only utensils clattering and a low volume of chatter in the restaurant. I could hear my tiny fob watch ticking, around my neck. I unhooked it and held in my hands, under the table.

" What's that?" Asked Paul. His sudden words made me flinch a little. He held my shoulder, and rubbed it gently. " It's alright. You're quiet easy to scare then, eh?"

I chuckled lightly and showed him the necklace. His eyes feasted upon the strange device-jewelry-thing.

The rest of the guys wanted to see what I had.

" It ticks, then?" Asked Ringo as he rose it to his ear. I nodded and watched as each of them took it and held it to their ears, commenting on it. Cynthia came back and sat with us. She saw the tiny fob watch and was intrigued at the amount of detail it had.

The fob watch seemed strange and almost felt like it had a slight static feel to it, like when you touch an older tv after it's just been turned on.

I clipped it back on as our food arrived. I was taken back at how good the food smelled. The smell of the meat, spices, and sauces, all harmonized into a delicious entree. I sliced through the steak with my knife, like warm butter, and took a bite.

" This is so good!" I said at a whisper. The guys smiled and chuckled at my reaction.

" What? Is the meat back in America not as good?" Asked Paul as he took a bite of his lambchop. I forgot that he wasn't vegetarian yet, so it was weird to watch.

" No... Not really. My sister isn't a really good cook, and all she knows how to make is undercooked chicken." I said trying to be as sarcastic as possible.

I ate most of my steak and salad and was full instantly. I felt like I had eaten a whole thanksgiving dinner ( which I've never felt before). Paul patted my back. " Are ye full already?" He asked. As I was about to answer, the waiter plopped down two cheesecakes, one for me and one for John.

I lightly burped and smiled at Paul. He chuckled and rubbed my arm.

" Alright then, on the count of three. One, two, three..." They sang happy birthday to me and John, but instead, they changed the lyrics around. They made it more comical and special.

After we blew out our candles, we sat the table and had a few drinks. The boys got a little drunk, especially John.

After getting kicked out of the
restaurant, we decided to head home. George had insisted that I could sleepover his place, so we made a few arrangements before heading over to his.

-----------

It was a long drive over to his, and I became sleepy. I figured this was the end of the " dream", so before falling asleep in the car, I rested my head on his arm and said in a whisper," Goodbye, George..."

    It was very bright.

    There was a ringing sound.

     Someone was holding my hand...

  " I had a dream."

" What was that dream about?" A voice answered in an echoey tone.

" It was my birthday..." I said, smiling and with my eyes closed.

" And what happened on your birthday?" The distorted voice replied.

" I was with The..." I started to go out again. I was tired.
