Chapter 5

Walking into Sally the first which I notice is that it is jam-packed. Although it is not surprising as Sally is a famous restaurant in the town, which naturally makes it a public favorite. It is situated on a deck and most of the beachgoers love to enjoy Sally's food.

Nick and I, both, share a look of helplessness when we can't find a single empty table.

Since it is lunchtime so it's crammed with people, even there is hardly any space in the open area of the restaurant. Waiters are running through the people like a headless chicken, trying to serve as many people as they can. The aroma of delicious food wafting through the air making our stomach grumble in protest.

Suddenly Nick perks up, his gaze fixed on someone. Following his line of sight, I find Lina sitting on a table in the far end corner.

Nick looks at me then points to her and even before I can stop he already starts walking in her table's direction. As soon as he reaches her table, she looks up at him and smiles.

I watch her nodding her head with a smile, as Nick back is facing me I can't make out what he says to her. However, when Nick turns and motions me to come over there, I figure we are going to share the table with her.

Great!

Simply nodding my head in a silent greeting I take one of the chairs opposite her, which a waiter has placed. Nick starts a conversation with her, as we wait for our orders to be placed.

Surprisingly, I can understand most of her sentences easily, just like the day when we had first met. Normally, it is easier for me to lip-read people who I know, as it becomes difficult to understand people with different pronunciations. Because the movements of the lips vary with different intonations.

However, with her, I am not facing any such difficulty.

From what I can figure from their conversation is that she has been maybe vacationing here for some days. She met Caleb at the beach where he was surfing with his friends and he asked her to visit the store to buy some water sports stuff.

Nick excuses himself to go to the bathroom, leaving us. She looks at me, in anticipation, as if she wants to talk with me, but I stay silent. Because I don't know what to say, old Jason was good at conversing with everyone, but this new Jason feels uncomfortable.

My eyes instantly move to her face, when she moves a little. My gaze keeps flickering between her lips and face, waiting for her to speak.

My neutral expression turns into a scowl when she sticks her tongue out at me and starts doing weird things with her mouth. Moving her lips quickly from left to right, then again right to left, then rolling her upper lip inside, then jutting her lower lip forward.

When I glare at her, she idiotically wiggles her eyebrows. There is no doubt, she has some special powers to annoy me with her presence.

"You were not willing to teach me lip-reading, then what makes you think I will let you read my lips?" She leans back in the chair and arches her eyebrow. Then continue making weird faces at me, not even bothering the people around her are giving her a strange look.

It is just been two days, and I already hate this girl.
