Chapter 2 - Razzle Dazzle

1745 WORDS (What is your preferred word count on a multi-chapter fic like this?)

-----------

Adora slowly became aware of herself, noticing one thing at a time. Catra wasn't there. A crushing pain was in her leg. Something had pinned her down. There was a faint light. A rustling noise grew closer.

Suddenly, the pieces of metal on her back lifted, as a tiny old lady peered down at her.

"Well," She croaked "You sure aren't a pie! What do we have here?"

"My name is Adora. Who are you?"

The lady grinned and helped her up. "Mara!!? Oh, Mara dearie! You left your sword behind when you left me! Let's go bake a pie."

"I left my...who exactly do you think I am?"

"What dearie? I don't have my glasses, you'll have to speak up!"

"Do...have you seen my friend? She has puffy hair, ears, a tail? She's basically a cat. But not."

"Let's pick some berries."

Adora stared at the lady. "What did you say your name is?"

"Madam Razz, but you know that Mara"

Adora nodded and followed her, too tired to protest the weird lady rambling. She had crashed a speeder, gotten knocked out, and woken up to a strange lady who has a weird fascination with the name 'Mara' She needed time to think and rest. Then she had to get back to Catra. And this would be her best chance, even if that chance is picking berries with a random old lady.

"Hey, wait!" Adora was even more confused now as she asked; "We are in district 2. There aren't any woods within the fences. Where are you gonna find berries?"

"You need to change out of that uniform. Its too nice to mess up. Come here dearie." Razz completely ignored her.

Adora shook her head and allowed the old lady to lead her to a shack in a dead end alley. She was ushered in and handed a pile of clothes.

"While you change dearie, I'll go get broom. He will want to meet you."

"He... as in the broom?"

"Do hurry dearie."

Adora quickly changed into the clothes that Razz had shoved into her arms, then stashed her uniform on a nearby shelf. She looked around the room she had been left in. On the wall was a large sword, golden with a teal jewel set on the hilt. She stepped forwards and gently put her hand on the hilt. Adora took the sword off of the wall, and brandished it. She swung it around, then jumped as Razz burst into the room.

"Oh, who are you again?" Razz seemed startled that Adora was in her house.

"Umm... I am Adora. You found me in the alley and offered me berry picking."

"Oh yes, of course. Sit down, drink tea, and tell me your life story."

Adora shrugged and followed Razz to the other room. It was tiny, had a small gas stove and a coffee table. Razz took a teapot off the stove and brought it to the table. Adora sat down on the floor, and waited.

Razz looked for a teacup to pour it in, but when she realized that she didn't have one, she poured it out a window then sat down.

"Well, dearie? I believe I asked for your story. Where did you come from?"

Adora winced, "I actually don't know. I was discovered by Shadow Weaver as a kid. The first memory I have is...is my best friend, Catra."

"I think you said that name before. Who is she?"

"I found her when we were both really little, shortly after I was found. I have been with her forever. I need go find her now."

"Tell me who you are."

"Well... I have a mutation.  Kind of. You see, there is something in our blood and the Peacekeepers have something that can sense it. Thats how I was found, actually. The sensor was going off like crazy. According to the test I should have some massive mutation or powers, or maybe even both. But somehow I don't. Not yet anyway."

"That isn't who you are."

"It is! I am also a SSHP cadet."

"But it isn't who you are."

Adora grew frustrated with the loony lady."Well, if you know so much about me, the why don't you tell me?"

"I know where you can get help. And bring your sword."

Razz led Adora, who carried the sword strapped to her back, into the center of town, then vanished. Adora wasn't surprised. Something about the old lady was off, like she wasn't just crazy, like she actually knew what she was talking about (but was also crazy at the same time?) Adora kind of already knew she wouldn't stick around for very long.

Adora looked around, trying to find someone to tell her where she was, but nobody was around. If today was the day after she went out with Catra, then all the citizens would be at the center of town listening to President Prime speak. And if the Horde guards are there, which they always are, then that's her best chance of getting home.

So Adora set out. Of course, she turned a corner and immediately tripped and fell flat on her face. Then, out of nowhere a small cart pulled by a beautiful long-legged animal barreled towards her. Adora froze, then closed her eyes as the cart rammed into her.

The two occupants gasped in surprise, and so did Adora when she realized she was still standing up. She slowly opened her eyes, then was immediately confused as to why she was so much higher than she was a second ago.

Adora was holding the majestic animal in one hand.

SHE WAS HOLDING THE ANIMAL IN ONE HAND. FUCK

She looked down, saw that her body was giant and glowing and in a white flowy uniform. She glanced at her other hand, where she had somehow subconsciously drawn the sword, then staggered in shock. When Adora caught her balance, she was no longer a giant glowy lady and the animal that she was holding was VERY heavy. She dropped it and started running.

There was only one explanation.

Her mutation had finally kicked in! Wheeee!!!! Catra would be so proud!!! And President Prime would be even more impressed than before!!

A voice from the cart behind her shouted; "She-ra!" and Adora heard footsteps chasing her. Shit. What did she do wrong this time. And what is she-ra?

- - - - - - - -

Catra woke up in a tiny dark room, without Adora. She immediately backed up into the corner, facing the door. Waiting for something to happen.

Eventually, a normal Peacekeeper opened the door. He gestured towards the hallway beyond.

"The outstanding President Prime wishes to see you ..." He muttered quieter, but not too quiet for Catra's cat ears to pick up, "mute scum."

She hissed and made a move to attack him, but the guard pulled out a taser and pointed it at her.

"And if you make one wrong move, I have permission to zap you to oblivion."

Catra begrudgingly followed the asshole to a large chamber, ears back, then was unceremoniously shoved inside. The door slammed behind her, so she approached the large throne that was turned away from the entrance, freezing when a strong voice rang out.

"So this is the fool who lost my best Mutation."

Catra winced at the term. While they were regularly called mutes or mutations it still hurt to think that they weren't people with mutations. They themselves were giant, ugly mutations.

The large chair turned, revealing Horde Prime. Catra spat on the floor at his feet.

Before she even saw what happened, she hanging three feet above the ground, with Horde Prime holding her by the throat. Catra tried to claw at his hands, but they were like steel, her claws didn't even leave the smallest scratch. Her vision faded, and she went limp.

As soon as Prime felt her stop moving, he dropped her, returned to his chair, and watched her struggle to stand.

"You failed her, and in turn failed me. Adora was the only one of you that showed any true promise."

Catra winced and got to her feet. "B-but you wanted the entire team"

"No, fool. I offered Adora a chance, but she refused to take it unless you were by her side. And, looking at you now, I cannot imagine why. Weak. Helpless. Stupid. You left her in an alley. She probably hates you." How did he know?

"Adora doesn't hate me." She felt like an idiot, pleading in her voice.

"Then why didn't she tell you you were not wanted. Why didn't she answer you when you called for her. Why hasn't she returned? If you meant anything to her, she would be here, wouldn't she?"

"Adora doesn't ... hate me." Catra's voice faltered.

"Ah, but do not worry child. You can redeem yourself. Fetch her, return her home. Then you will go on to achieve your dreams."

Catra dropped to her knees. "Yes, Lord Prime."

He smiled. "You may be of some sort of use to me yet."

-----------

Adora was being chased by a sparkly child and a child with weapon.

Ugh. She dodged into a few dirty backstreets, and ran away from them as fast as the could, towards the outer border of district 2.

The girl chasing her caught up, flashing in and out of sight in a poof of glitter. She was a princess!!

Adora, terrified by the realization, raced towards the giant fences that enclosed district two. As she reached them, Adora, in one smooth motion, unsheathed her sword, cut a hole, and dove through it. The two were no longer behind her, so she propped up the fence so it looked fine, and sat down to catch her breath and get her bearings.

As soon as she sat down, her back to the woods so she was facing the fence and district 2, the two pursuers appeared behind her.

The shiny princess spoke; "There is an easier way through the fence you know?"

Startled, Adora jumped up and away, attempting to draw her sword, but forgot she had set it down in the mud.

The glittery princess stepped forwards and grabbed it, holding to her chest like a ... idk, something you treasure. Like a Catra.

Then, the boy with a crop-top took out his bow and nocked an arrow, aimed straight at Adora's chest. Even though he was five feet away.

Adora slumped to the ground, and said "Shit."
