she had put on her favorite

hot pink shoes

and wore her favorite perfume

she did not know

this would be the night

her heart was broken in two

the table's candelight

illuminated his eyes

and she was sure

that this was the time

he would pull out a Tiffany box

and ask her to be his bride

but instead he said

he needed his space

he still loved her

but he was being smothered

she could't hear it all

words dimmed to a murmur

they drove home

in awkward silence

she stared at distant stars

wishing she was that far

away as the light in her heart

burned out and went dark
