he wanted her to last forever

so he carved her likeness

in alabaster stone

he placed it in the garden

so the sunlight would always

shine upon her face

but soon he realized

that stone could never

wave at him or whisper

sweet nothings under

a full moon

he was still as empty as

he was when she left him

long ago
