2nd POV
Flashback
It happened when you were still a 1st year at Inarizaki. You were new, you were fresh, and most importantly, you were the newest victim.
The bullies at Inarizaki do not go unnoticed. They'll move with ever chance they get at picking on the weak, or what they think is weaker than them.
You remember on your first week that some students were making fun of your twin pigtails that rested above your chest, and your dark red glasses. They teased that you looked like a middle aged librarian who would tweak at the slightest noise in a library.
The glasses were a gift from your dad before he died from his disease. He smiled on his last breath as he uttered the words that stung your heart as he gave a box that had red glasses inside.
"I've always... known.. that you.. came to like reading..," He coughed, "I knew that.. before I part ways.. with you, my darling, that I ought ... to give you one, last simple.. gift."
You were 6 years old back then. You thought that reading a disgustingly amount of books will help you get smarter and know how to cure your dad's disease. You were young. You were just a kid.
An event at the school made you breakdown on the bench just beside the gymnasium where squeaks of shoes were heard. You were drenched in water that janitors used to clean the mop with. The smell was hideous.
There was a boy that saw you and approached you to ask what was wrong, dismissing the smell that was emitting from the liquid poured unto you.
"Yo, the hell is that smell?" He coughed.
Your glistening eyes behind your red frame met his squinted ones. His eyes softened.
"Sorry.. it's mop water..," You sniffled as you choked a laugh, "Students here can be.. challenging."
He was uncomfortable at the fact that you found humor, or forced humor, from the bully community of the school. He had his experiences because of that and he was not quite fond of it.
"You know what," He sighed as he crouched, his fox-like eyes met yours, "You could become our manager. That way, no one can fuck with you anymore."
Your eyes widened at his strong choice of words and shook your head, "That won't solve it.. besides.. what manager are you talking about anyway..?"
"Maybe it won't solve it, maybe it won't," He shrugged, "Managing a club that consists of guys who play volleyball. Worth a try though, don't you think?"
You raised your head as you saw his grin, his eyes disappeared. He looked so cute.
"Well, I gotta go back now or my seniors will kick my ass," He grumbled and waved as he jogged away, "See ya!"
After that encounter, you didn't hesitate to return to school and asked your teachers about the volleyball club. Eventually, you found out that the manager spot was available. After they guided you to where it was, you met the captain and his teammate who is bound to take on the captain role as he graduates, as the coach introduced you to them.
"I like your glasses."
You blushed as the guy complimented you, "Thank you, they were from my late father."
"I see, sorry to hear. He is an amazing guy to have had gifted his strong daughter," He smiled, "I'm Kita Shinsuke. You are?"
You stammered, "I-uh-I'm..," You shakily inhaled, "..Sorry.."
He laughed, "Take your time. It's alright."
You guys became closer and it surprisingly didn't take too long to do so. Everyday he would compliment your glasses, until he introduced you to the members of the team.
"Your glasses look weird."
"Did you tie your own hair."
Your face paled at the first words of the twins that stood taller before you. Kita was about to scold them but you just laughed a bit.
"I guess so," You took your glasses off hesitantly, "They are kinda weird, aren't they?"
Their mouths formed an 'O', "Wow, you're like, really pretty without them too! You should stop wearing them, in my opinion."
The other twin smacked his brother, "He's stupid. It's your hair that makes you look weird."
"What did you do that for, 'Samu?! You know it's her glasses!" The other twin growled.
The guy 'Samu rolled his eyes, "Shut up, 'Tsumu. Your judgements are weird!"
Kita went off to scold them as you just stared at the glasses in your hands and you touched the two tied hair that stay rested on your shoulders. You raised your eyes and met the guy's gaze from before.
You were about to wave when he started walking away. Weird, he didn't seem to recognize you or remember you.
The next day, the twins were surprised when you entered the gym in your tracksuit with your h/c hair untied and glasses nowhere to be found on your face.
"Wow, put two and two together. You get it!" Atsumu laughed and tried pat you on the shoulder. Osamu has came from nowhere and kicked him from the side, sending him flying to somewhere.
The twins continued to bicker as Kita frowned when he came up to you, "You changed your style."
"It's alright, I need change once in a while," You chuckled, "Transience will bless us."
He was worried, but let it be. You looked around the gym and hoped to find Suna, the guy whose name you learned from Kita. Sadly, he was too busy practicing with others.
You shook your head. You have given up on letting him know that you were the girl he talked to before. You just wanted to thank him. Without his suggestion, your life at school would've stayed intolerable. It worked.. the students stopped bullying you. At least some of them. Some guys even took their chance to confess to you after your 'glow up'.
From then on, the club became most of your life.

The twins showed up outside your classroom door after class. You were unsurprised when you saw girls swarming them as you exited the room.
"L/n!" Atsumu grinned as he greeted you with a matching wave of his hand. Osamu pushed through the girls along with his twin and made their way to you.
You tilted your head a bit, "This is a surprise. What's going on?"
"We wanted to invite you to lunch," Osamu said as he munched on an onigiri he has on his hand, "Want sum?"
You shook your head, "Thank you," Your eyes met Atsumu's, "Where's Suna?"
His eyes faltered a bit, "Oh, Suna? He's at the benches eating his own lunch."
"What? And you didn't even think to invite him as well?" You frowned as you walked past them and towards the benches area, hoping to find Suna.
"Well, we were after you!" Atsumu yelled as your figure got smaller and smaller. He frowned as he turned to Osamu, "What now?"
Osamu shrugged, "Told ya we should've gotten Suna first. Don't tell me you failed to notice L/n's eyes when she looks at him these days. Hey, 'Tsumu, I decided I don't like Suna anymore."
"No I don't. What are you talking about? Why are you so quick to decide?" Atsumu scrunched his nose in confusion.
Osamu shrugged, again, "You should stop too, in my opinion."
"Why would I?"
"You and I both know it won't work," Osamu took the final bite of his food, "It's like, the universe is telling us they're meant to be together."
Atsumu was silenced. He couldn't help but look back to the bench area afar from the center of the hallway.
You finally spotted him and walked to where he was. He looked up at you and his eyes relaxed to a 'Oh great' look.
"Hey," You greeted and took a seat next to him.
He swallowed the food he was chewing, "Uh, hi."
"Mind if I join you for lunch?" You said, already taking your sandwich out of your lunchbox.
He frowned, "You say that as if you gave me a choice.."
You smiled as you bit on your food, "My bad. How are you?"
The air was relaxing just outside the open hallways of the school. Whoever thought of having a small field outside with benches definitely deserved a raise. This is a comfortable spot to eat lunch at.
"I'm okay. You?" He saved words and just continued eating his food.
You hummed as you took a biscuit from his box, "I'm good. I was hoping to wait for you again after practice later."
He frowned when you took his biscuit, but he reached for one of your cookies and ate it, "Oh yeah? Why?"
You giggled at his action and noticed he tried to stifle his smile as well.
"Why not? I think it's fun having someone to walk home after school with," You told him as you drank on a new box of juice you bought from a vending machine, "Oh shit, this tastes good."
"What made you think that though? I thought I was fine going home with the twins," He said as he eyed your box of juice.
"Change, Suna. It's fun, too, once in a while," You said as you brought the box of juice closer to his lips to which he shook his head to, "Ah, it's okay. You can taste it too."
He hesitated but sipped on it anyway.
His brows shot up, "Oh, wow," He gulped, "Is that fruit?"
"Yeah, some combination of some kind," You said as you reached more in your lunch bag, "I also have these."
You almost smiled so big when his eyes sparkled at the jelly fruit sticks you were holding.
"Can.. I have some?"
You laughed and gave him three, "Of course. They're my favorites."
"They're my favorites, too," He finally showed a small smile and began to open one to eat.
Lunch went by as the two of you made small conversations. It was refreshing, you totally forgot about returning to the twins for lunch.
Once the bell rang, you proceeded to head back to your class after seeing Suna off. You had a smile that was hard to erase from your lips, and some of your classmates noticed that as well. Especially the 'stalker guy' from your peripheral vision. You were unfortunate enough to have a class with him.
I miss you already, Suna.
As though gods from above answered your blessing, time went by relatively fast and it was time for you to head to the gym where all the members are practicing.
You were about to enter the gym when you are suddenly pulled aside to the trees.
"You!-" You tried to complain but the guy who was stalking you for days covered your mouth.
"Shh! Shut up. Please let me confess my love for you," He said as his eyes has a glisten of lust and a disturbingly sickening look.
You rolled your eyes and kicked him in his abdomen with your knee. You huffed, "At least do it properly, you ass."
He was enraged and was about to punch you but someone caught his wrist.
"You heard her. Do it properly. I don't recall whatever is morally right about confessing to someone you like by attempting to punch them in the face. Jackass."
You turned in shock to a pissed off Suna who had a nonchalant face, but a cold look in his eyes.
"Let go of me!" The guy yelled and pulled his arm from Suna, trying to run away.
Suna caught his collar and shoved him on the ground.
"Go near her again with that same disgusting look on your face, you won't see the light of day again."
The guy stumbled on his feet and tried to run. You caught his collar and gripped his neck tight with your hand.
"Just so we're clear," You pulled his struggling state closer, "I know what you have been doing. Try it again, and I'll make sure you won't live a second life."
You pulled him closer, "I also know that you are the one spreading fake rumors about Suna and making people think wrong. Do you know how many people I've dealt with when I realized?"
He started to shake out of fear when you whispered those to him.
Suna was just watching amusingly. He leaned on a tree and watched as you intimidated the guy, unaware that you were giving threats for the sake of him.
"I've dealt with garbage in silence, just to clear Suna's name. I'm sure you're aware that he's been getting bullied not knowing why," You whispered lowly, "If I hear word about Suna getting hurt again, I'll burn you alive."
You shoved him away as he scattered to run. The guy was scared for his life.
"Well shit, you didn't need me," Suna snickered as you both walked to the gymnasium.
You turned to him confused, "What do you mean?"
He shrugged, "I saw you entering the gym then disappeared. I thought it was kinda funny seeing you get swiped from nowhere. Then I got curious and went outside to check."
"Has he been bothering you?" You didn't fail to notice the sudden change in his voice.
Suna really is sensitive about cases like this. Someone getting hurt or bullied. He knows all too well that it's an annoying feat to experience.
"He was, for almost two weeks now. But it's alright, really. I have it handled," You said as you and him entered.
"You were about to get hit on the face."
You were quiet as you hid the pocket knife in your pocket a little deeper, "I was about to dodge."
"Yeah, right," He scoffed and was about to go back to the court.
"Were you concerned?" You asked, not expecting him to answer.
He stopped in his tracks and turned to you.
"Why? Would it be weird if I was? Or more normal if I wasn't?" He asked.
"Change, L/n," He shot a quick grin and went back to court. You smiled, he used your own words against you. Whether he was mocking you or not, it definitely made you happy.
You aren't expecting it after all. You were only here to save him, you didn't think much about yourself.
But it wouldn't hurt if you assumed that he can be there for you as well.

Practice ended and it was time to clean up. The twins were tired so they went ahead to tell you and the team that they were heading back first.
You wanted something new to experience, so you called them back.
Atsumu smiled, "What is it, L/n?"
"I was wondering if.. you guys walked home with me and Suna? This time?" You fidgeted, expecting no for an answer.
"Why not?" Osamu said as Atsumu nodded, "Sure. Hey, let's stop by a vending machine later!" Atsumu said with sparkles in his eyes.
Osamu rolled his eyes and crossed his arms, "I'm pretty sure you just want to stop by the ramen place."
"What?! Between you and me, you're the one more interested in food!" Atsumu crossed his arms in competition.
"Hah, so what? Food is amazing," Osamu huffed as they both started to bicker again.
You smiled in relief as you unknowingly pulled them both in a hug.
They both froze when you did that.
Your smile dropped and you felt scared as you pulled back. You cursed yourself internally for such an unconscious thing to do.
"Sorry, I got carried away..," You nervously laughed and looked away.
You didn't expect them to hug you.
Tears almost swelled in your eyes. Memories of pain in their eyes from your former life flashed in your mind – reminding you how lucky you are to be given a second chance like this.
Aran, from afar, sighed, "Kids. They get along well don't they? Cute sight.. good for them."
Kita smiled as he nodded. Both of them exiting the gym with the other members.
"Don't stay out too late!" Kita said as they left.
After a few seconds, the twins and you pulled away. Osamu patted your head, "Don't be sorry, L/n. We love hugs!"
Atsumu laughed, "We sure do! Although it was unexpected coming from you."
"You guys done?" Suna said from behind them, walking to you with your bag.
"Oh, you didn't have to. Thank you," You said as you got your bag from Suna.
He shook his head, "It's fine. Are they coming with us?"
"Yeah," You smiled at him as he nodded. The four of you exited the gym as the three guys talked about volleyball stuff, until it moved to random stuff.
I'm... happy.
You smiled to yourself as you all walked together to a ramen shop. Suna walked away from Atsumu's side and walked beside you.
"Hi," He blankly said, looking forward.
You stifled your own smile, "Hi."
"Hi."
"Hi."
You and Suna looked at the twins who were looking at you both.
"What," Suna said blankly.
The silver head raised a brow, "What, aren't we all saying hi to each other?"
"Were we supposed to not say hi too?" The omelette head asked. What made you laugh was the fact that they were both serious about it.
The dark haired boy rolled his eyes, "Whatever."
The four of you entered the ramen shop and ordered your food. The guys were all talking with Suna occasionally teasing them, unfortunately for the twins, they can't ever match the humor behind how Suna makes fun of them. The twins kept asking you to save them from him with a pout, to which you just laughed at.
This is nice. You smiled to yourself again.
After the early dinner with the guys, eventually it was time to part streets. The twins waved you and Suna good bye as they went ahead their own roads.
"I'm glad."
Suna hummed in confusion as he looked at you.
You sighed lightly, "I'm glad that you hung out with us."
Suna took a while to examine your features. They were gentle, you looked sincere.
He shrugged and looked away, "I didn't see the problem with it."
You chuckled, "No, I was worried you were going to decline and push us away. I didn't like the thought of it."
"Would you have been devastated if I said no?" He sarcastically said. Suna refused to give in. He felt the dangerous thought of getting attached.
"No," You smiled.
He whipped his head to you as he saw you grinning, "Oh."
You raised your head in the sky and stopped grinning, but a relaxed faint smile was on your lips.
"I would have pushed you anyway," You turned to him, "I wouldn't let you walk home by yourself."
Suna raised a brow, "No, because I thought it would just be the two of us?"
"Ah, yeah. But, still – you were fine with it weren't you?" You lightly pushed him on his side with yours.
He hid his smile, "Yeah, I guess so."
Your heart was happy.
You didn't want this moment to end. Confidence flooded you, thinking that you will save him ahead of time. It suddenly felt like the odds were in your favor.
What could possibly go wrong?
