Tiger by the Tail

When I asked my love, his love to prove,

he made the most audacious move.

He took me in his arms, at last;

I tried to leave - he held me fast.

Chills I got upon my spine,

as soon, knew I, his love was mine.

Surprised, he'd cast me in his play,

too afraid, was I, to stay.

Are you quite certain, of what you do?"

Nervously, I asked.

Of course,' he said, 'I love you - 

and loving you'll be my life's task.'

I'd worked so hard to enthrall,

now, I did my best to stall.

"Perhaps the time's not right, right now,

our love, to be declared?"

His look bemused, he then employed:

'Now listen, love – fair is fair.'

'I'd hardly thought to ever find,

another of the self-same mind.'

'But, here you are, so very sweet

and look at you, dragging feet.'

"But truly, now, I'm not so sure."

'Too late my love, to be demure.'

"Perhaps we might, just think a while?"

I stuttered then and forced a smile.

'But why?' He growled, 'I do insist!

Come over here - you must be kissed.'

Oh drat! I thought, what if this fails? 

I've caught the tiger by his tail.
