Mahira would get one snickers every single Sunday during her visit to Khan Villa since that Maya incident. They don't talk about it, just pass some shy smiles and secret glances like always. They just don't talk at all.
Two years passed by, and to say a lot has happened would be an understatement. For starters, her older sister Mawra got married to Ameen's older brother, Ibrahim making them practically families now. It was totally unexpected for both of them, they were happy for their siblings anyway. But what freaked them out was, how will their parents react to their relationship. Whatever it was.
They didn't talk it out, they never did, but the fear was clearly visible in both of their eyes. Mahira wondered how long will this go, the phase of no talks and only secret glances. Because, damn she wanted some freaking progress.
By now, she knew Ameen felt the same way as well. His actions spoke louder than words, and that was the only thing that kept her sane for the past two years.
She glanced at her phone and sighed exasperatedly seeing no wishes from Alizah, or anyone else. Nor did her family wish her. It was her freaking eighteenth birthday that day. She was in an awful mood and seeing her married sister getting all the attention even on her special day made her lose cool, yes she was jealous and childish. But it wasn't in her control that day.
Mahira walked downstairs to the dining table angrily as their parents were advising Mawra regarding some marriage-related stuff. Her sister has been staying at their place for probably a week now. She couldn't care less. All she wanted was some love and wishes on her birthday, but people were too busy to care it seems.
"Ammi. I will be coming home late today." She told hurriedly whilst grabbing an apple from the dining table and started eating it,
"Why?" Mahira almost rolled her eyes at that question, but stopped in between with a fuming look on her face, "did anyone remember what day is today?" Her family passed each other confused glances, making her angrier if anything.
"Thought so." her voice was filled with hurt.
"For your kind information, today is my eighteenth birthday, but no one remembers anything about me anyway. It's always Mawra this or Mawra that." Mahira glared at her sister, whose face widened at her accusation.
"Why don't you go back to your home and leave us all alone?" Mahira snapped making everyone gasp in horror, "Mahi!" her parents' stern voice shuts her up as she threw the apple in the dustbin and walked out of there before yelling, "I'll be celebrating my birthday with a friend. Unlike you guys, someone remembers and cares."
It was all lies. There was no friend. And definitely no celebrations. But she wanted to be away from her home that day, and the only way to stop her parents from worrying was that lie and so she lied.
Thinking of friends, she is planning to murder Alizah today. How dare she forget her birthday? Mahira frowned annoyedly as she got into the bus and sat in her usual place.
Her awful mood turned worse when Alizah was absent that day, so were her other friends.
The evening arrived late and finally, it was time to go home. There was a saying that when you wait for something so eagerly then the time flies slower and that was her case too. With a sigh, she slid her school bag and walked in the corridors, heading to the park.
She was just in the entrance of the park and was caught off guard when a hand came from behind and muffled her mouth, leaving no chance for her to scream.
"What the-
Her eyes went wide when all her friends stood behind her with a goofy grin on their faces.
Alizah was the first one who came towards her and squeezed her into a bone-crushing hug, "how did you think that I've forgotten your birthday?"
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAHIRAA!" The rest of her friends yelled together cheerfully, leaving her in tears. She did not expect this, not even in the dreams.
"I'm so mad at you nevertheless. Why did you take leave, It was very boring without you." Mahira whined at her friend, who smiled sheepishly.
"A special someone wanted us to do this and we couldn't deny his cute request you see." Alizah smiled teasingly making her go speechless yet shy, heat raised onto her cheeks at the thought of having him somewhere close to her. The first thing she did was to look at herself and thankfully her uniform was neat. The next thing she did was to look around to see where he was.
"You look fine, babe and have a little patience, he'll be here soon." Mahira blushed furiously and chose not to reply to that.
Shaking her head with a teasing laugh, Alizah grabbed the school bag from her, confusing her a little bit, "give this to me and go inside..." Mahira was literally pushed into the park and only then did she notice how empty it was.
Her heart skipped a beat as she saw rose petals strewn on a paved path. She walked on it curiously and stopped at once seeing that familiar figure standing near a bench with a nervous smile plastered on his face.
The world seemed to freeze for them, as he stared at her and she, at him. They couldn't move an inch nor was she able to blink her eyes, she was still in shock seeing him do all these lovely gestures for her. Damn, why was he so good?
"Hira..." he whispered her name so sweetly and her stomach did a summersault at that, Ameen came forward and handed her a bar of snickers. A chuckle left her lips as she took it from him. It was their special thing, he always gets her that. Her Sundays are incomplete without them and getting one from him on her eighteenth birthday just made it a hundred times more special.
"T-thanks." And there goes the stuttering. They both had that effect on each other.
"No stuttering today..." He grinned teasingly making her cheeks go on fire.
"You se-seem to have ga-gained a lot of courage." Mahira wanted to tease him back, but damn. It was all too overwhelming for her. She couldn't believe it was happening in the first place, her eyes were on the floor the whole time. She freaking couldn't eye him properly without blushing like a fool.
"I did, I've waited for this day since a long back." Ameen sighed dreamily making her look up at him, and her heart skipped a beat as his eyes stared into hers with so many emotions. Heat raised onto her cheeks.
"You did?"
"We have wasted a lot of time... Not anymore. I wanted to ask you this question for a very long time. Will you be my girlfriend, Hira?" Ameen's smile vanished as he asked that and his eyes held something like fear. He was dreading her answer. He'd never force her to be his girlfriend, but it'd hurt like hell if she said no.
"Will you promise to climb trees with me and catch random flies?" A shy smile appeared on her cheeks as she gazed at the land again. They both felt nostalgic at her question. Mahira could feel him getting slightly relieved, "I mean, yes I think."
"You think?" She lifted her head to gaze at him quizzically and found his cheeky smile which warmed her insides, "Will you take me on your bike and teach me how to drive?"
"I'd love to." He didn't hesitate even once before answering that, which got her blushing furiously again not that she wasn't blushing before.
"Then I think my answer will be yes." She smiled teasingly. Of course, she would say yes even if his answers were no, but it was fun pulling his legs.
"Damn, Hira. You scared me for a while." Ameen's face broke into a huge grin making her swoon literally.
"I totally forgot, Happy eighteenth birthday." he handed her a small box, wrapped in a golden paper which she took shyly whilst mumbling a small thanks.
"FINALLY GUYS! YOU BOTH WERE SLOWER THAN A TORTOISE!" It was none other than Alizah, who appeared out of nowhere and pulled her best friend into a happy hug.
"Ali!" Mahira smiled shyly and hugged her friend, trying to believe all of this was actually happening in real.
"I'm so happy for you." "And you, Mr If you ever hurt my friend, I'll kill you." Ameen raised his hands in surrender with a shake of his head. Damn, that girl can be scary when she wants.
It turned out to be the happiest day of Mahira's life. Her friends along with Ameen gave her a surprise party in the park and her parents also made it up to her in the evening with a homemade cake and apologies. She ended that day while chatting non stop with her boyfriend, Ameen. God, it still felt so freaking unbelievable.

"Can I get one too?" Mawra asked her sister with a teasing smile, who was sulking in her bedroom looking at all those boxes. Mahira couldn't believe he has sent those many snickers to her.
"Go away, Mawra." She sighed whilst munching a snickers bar angrily. He did give her those, what's the harm in eating them? Its hers anyway.
"I mean. Sharing is caring." Mawra giggled whilst taking one bar from her forcibly.
"Hey! That's mine. Give it here." She snatched it back in no time and glared at her sister, "are you seriously going to eat all these?" Mawra asked while looking at the number of boxes in front of her. It was too much to last for a year at least.
"What if I am?" Mahira asked in between munching her snickers bar, with a disinterested look on her face.
"You both are crazy. I mean seriously... You knew him since seven years old and never told me?" Mawra questioned with shock and surprise, it still amazes her to know that her sister knew Ibrahim's brother for all these years.
"We were not exactly close to share such personal things, Mawra. Why are you here so early in the morning? Go away, I'm sleepy." Mawra smiled sadly, it was true though. They both were not like any other sisters. There was always this gap between them and she regretted it later. Maybe, she should have tried to bridge the gap earlier. It wasn't too late for that is what she hoped.
"I'm sorry, Mahi. For not being there when you wanted someone to share your feelings with. I'm the worst sister, right?" Mahira's eyes widened at her genuine words, of course, she needed someone. A lump formed in her throat as she stared at her sister, who was smiling sadly at her.
"The past is past, Mawra. Let's not talk about it." Mahira gave her sister a side hug and smiled softly. Their trance was broken by a little storm who entered her room with a goofy grin.
"Mama. Chocolate." Abeera grinned cutely while looking at so many chocolates in front of her. It felt like she was in heaven.
"No, Mama ki Jaan. You should eat lunch first." Mawra hated saying no to her daughter, but when it comes to her health she was a little strict.
"Is it lunch already?" Mahira asked with a sheepish look. She was sleeping for a while then.
"Chachi, chocolate." Abeera pouted at her, determined to have at least one chocolate. There were so many in the room after all.
Mawra and Mahira's eyes widened at her words. They both passed each other shocked glances while staring back at the little girl, who just wanted one chocolate.
"Chachi, please."
"Who taught that to you?" Mahira asked curiously, cautious with her tone. Abeera was still a baby after all. But she was furious from inside knowing very well of whose game it is.
"Abeera jaani, she's your khalla. Not Chachi." Not yet, Mawra thought with a hidden smile.
"No. She is Chachi." The little girl has got the stubborn genes from her mother, who smiled sheepishly.
"I totally forgot to ask. What are you doing here and who else came?" Mahira raised her brows in curiosity, something felt fishy and being called as Chachi just confirmed it, "I thought you'd never ask. My whole family is downstairs." Mawra smiled, whilst not meeting her gaze.
"What do you mean?" "Is he here as well?"
"He's a part of my family, Mahi. Of course, he's here."
"What for?"
"Uh... To ask your hand in marriage. We are going to be sister-in-laws now, Mahi." Mawra exclaimed happily making her sister jump in shock.
"WHAT?" Did she hear it right or was it another one of her imaginations? Mahira wanted to pinch herself and see if this was real.
"Chachi. Chocolate..." All Abeera wanted was chocolate, but why are they so mean? The little girl thought with a pout and ran away from the room to complain to her father.
"I'm going to kill that guy today. What does he think of himself." Mahira marched out of her room in her satin pyjamas and messy hair with a frown etched on her lips.
