What About Massachusetts?

The dull lighting from the far away sun shown through Delia Acker's transparent windows. There were many stains from hot liquids she accidentally spilt on the glass while she was trying to sip out of a cup. She had bad luck with keeping the liquid inside the actual container.

She was lazy, yes but she always thought she'd clean up the window another time but her memory lacked memorization. As she looked out the window, down below in the meadow were little boys playing pirates with one another, pretending their long sticks that they found on the ground were their sharp, iron swords.

And a few meters away sat a kind eyed woman with chocolate brown eyes. As far as she could see, the woman was looking after what seemed to be her grandsons. In her hands was a ball of yarn in which she was knitting something to keep her entertained as the boys tried to spear each other with a stick.

Beside the old lady, a scrawny boy with chocolate brown, carefree hair with eyes that shined like gems sat and talked to the old lady while she was distracting herself with her activities. The boy looked mysterious to Delia, she was intrigued but she knew she would never walk out there and introduce herself, never in a million years.

One boy looked younger than the rest, but did more damage than his others. He had a long stick, the length of one of his legs and as he ran towards one of his friends, he stabbed them while knocking them over with his force. Her face lit up with a grin as she saw the other boy on the ground complaining of the pain his friend caused to his knee. It was a nice view, Delia thought.

The sun was just above the voluptuous and tall hills, the bright colour of an eggs yoke was swept across the plains. From her position, Delia placed her elbow on the frame of the pane and had her chin on the palm of her left hand.

"Del! Get down here, Love! Supper's ready!" Delia's mother yelled from the feet of the stairs. A growl followed her mother's call and she knew it came from her stomach. The blonde girl beamed happily, grasping her stomach and rushing down the spiral, wooden stairs like a kid on Christmas Day.

"Goodness me!" Her mother said in surprise when she saw Delia covered in dirt, dust and tea stains.

"I'm sorry, Mother. I couldn't help but spectate the lovely games that were happened just outside the door." She apologized, making her voice hoarse. She knew her sisters saw through her act.

"I bet she was looking at the little boys, if one of them were rich then you could marry them." Charlotte, one of her sisters giggled at her own joke. Mother hushed her to silence and asked for Delia to sit.

"There couldn't be much for you to see out there, my Dear. The world is much greater than this small town." Her mother explained but Delia didn't care, she just nodded in agreement and stopped when her mom started talking again. "If you'd like, I'll send you to a real place to experience the world much bigger than us." Her mothers hazel eyes met with hers and suddenly, Delia felt her heart start racing.

"I-I, what did you just say, Mother?" The sweet girl asked, "I'll send you off, of course! There's a big world you need to see! Charlotte and Harriet have been begging me to let them."

"Dang right we have! And now you can just go off and be happy! What's the point?" Charlotte sat back in her seat, grumpily picking at her food while Harriet mumbled something underneath her breath that Delia couldn't hear.

Her sisters were disappointed with the news, she knew that they couldn't go until a few more years pass but Delia couldn't help wonder why.

"Where would I go?" Delia asked with curiosity, "Somewhere fair and beautiful but full of kindness and—"

"Handsome men." Charlotte cut mother off, her and Harriet laughed wickedly while Delia and their mother stared at the two little girls like they were mad.

"What about Massachusetts?" Delia's face burned bright red as she remembered her first visit there where she spilt her tea all over her borrowed dress. "What?" She said out of shock, her lips mumbled no but luckily no one heard her. She felt as though her life had come to this moment and her Mother suggested Massachusetts for a reason.

"I... I'll go."
