chapter twenty nine
A chocolate easter egg sat in her hands as she stared at words of a History of Magic book that rested on her lap. It was nearly five o'clock on a Saturday evening, granted it was a Saturday she had spent mostly with her nose buried away in a book and cramping study after study in her head. With the looming doom of exams hanging over her head, Winnie realized just how much she was falling behind on studies with everything else happening in her life, she could already hear Hermione's lectures in the near future.
She sighed, slamming the book shut as she threw it down on the couch beside her, her hand reaching up to break apart the chocolate in her hands, and popping it in her mouth.
Easter had come and gone with little to no excitement, at least all besides Apollo who swarmed into her window early in the morning with a letter and a chocolate bar from Honeydukes tied to his leg from both Sirius and Remus. She had smiled and written back a thank you note in rather messy writing due to her lack of sleep, it wasn't until she had laid back down in bed when she remembered she had forgotten to tell them she'd be accepting Sirius' offer.
It seemed rather foolish to not accept it, though, the biggest push she had needed was Cordelia telling her to take it. The brumette was the only family she had truly left, her approval and understanding meant everything to her. ( Winnie had made a mental note to remind herself to write Sirius a letter before O.W.L's snuck up on her, but anytime she went to do so, she was distracted by school or something else. )
"What time is it?" Harry questioned suddenly from his space on the floor. His head leaned back against her knees that was covered with a throw blanket. Glasses smudged up against his forehead as she grinned, leaning her hand down to fix his crooked glasses softly before she sighed. Looking towards the clock that sat above the furnace, her eyes narrowed, reading the black numbers.
"It's four fifty, why?" She questioned, but as soon as the words left her lips, the boy popped up like a jack in the box. Eyes wide and hair sprouting up every which way, alarmed, her own legs swung out from underneath her blanket, feet planting against the ground and pushing herself up. "What in Godric's name is the matter?" She asked quickly, as the boy started towards the staircase. She quickly followed in step with him, feet kicking against the stairs as she disappeared into his room. Just as she raised her hand to push open the door, he returned to it. Knocking his head with hers as she groaned, placing her hand against her forehead and spotting his invisibility cloak in his hands.
"I'm going to speak to Sirius," Harry whispered urgently, before slipping past her and heading down the steps. Blinking, she ignored the pain in her head as she turned and followed after him. This would solve her whole problem of always forgetting to write him a letter if she could just go with Harry!
'Wait! Harry, wait!" She called, running after him as her hand went out to catch his wrist just as he made it to the portrait hole.
"I don't have time for this Winnie, what is it?" He snapped, irriaration radiating off him like fumes as she narrowed her eyes. It was the urgency in the situation that made her understand his tone, the reason behind her biting her tongue rather than snapping back at him.
"Can I speak to him as well? If you don't mind, I'd rather like to tell him about my-" the boy huffed, rolling his eyes before allowing a nod to trickle through his neck.
"Well, come on then. We gotta be quick about it," he inclined his head towards the door before he slipped out of it. Not taking any chances of being left behind, Winnie's feet quickly carried after him. Dirt filled converse smacking against the floor as she scurried into step with the ebony haired boy, there were tiny sounds of shouts and what distinctively sounded like sparks of fireworks in the distance. Her eyebrows furrowed deeper as they approached the familiar classroom that was held with Umbridge's office. Her foot went to take a step closer, throwing a group of students that were scurrying out of the room when Harry's hand snuck out around her wrist.
He tugged her back against the wall, their backs squared up against the rough stone as Winnie narrowed her eyes at him. Opening her mouth to ask him what the bloody hell he thought he was doing, just when the familiar shrieks of Umbridge's shrill voice followed by her pink outfitted body stormed out of the room they were about to enter. Clamping her mouth shut, she was suddenly grateful to be covered by a group of students as she watched the smaller women barrel off in search of all the mayhem.
Winnie had an inkling that the twins were the meaning behind it all.
"Okay, let's go," Harry whispered, nudging her forward with hurried movements as the blonde nodded. Her feet quickly carried her into the classroom again, slipping past the group of students bundled at the door. Once again, Harry dashed them in under a suit of armour, their shoulders smudged together as he tossed the Invisibility cloak over them. The shimmering sheet of magic concealing them from any wandering eyes. In his right hand he held a knife, which made her hand come out to grasp his arm, earning her an annoyed gaze which she simply dismissed with a wrinkle of her nose.
"What exactly is that?" She questioned through a whisper shout, finger pointing down to the silver blade as the ebony haired boy breathed out a heavy sigh through his nose.
"It's a gift from Sirius, it'll unlock any door," he explained, their bodies moving in unison towards the locked door of Umbridge's office. Winnie hummed, choosing not to question how Sirius managed to get his hands on that, coming from a pure blood family herself; it's better not knowing what lay hidden in the rooms of your house. She watched, his shoulder pressed into her side as he moved the knife in between the crack, her breath halting in her chest, briefly wondering if it would fail completely. But finally, a click sliced through the silence that twisted around them.
They ducked into the office, shutting it behind them in a swift action. Harry pulled the cloak off of them, her eyes trickling around the room and spotting several kittens placed in the walls. Licking themselves or staring at the sudden introducers like they were the ones in the wrong. Winnie wrinkled her nose, deciding she possibly could dislike these cats as much as their owner.
Her vision floated to Harry, who was already crouched in front of the fireplace with a handful of green Floo Powder. "Shite," she muttered, moving quickly and crouching down beside him. Her knees hitting the pink carpet below her as he glanced over at her. She smiled, nodding before he dropped the powder into the logs in the open crate. They both took a deep breath as it exploded in a green smoke, before sticking their heads inside of it.
"Number Twelve, Grimmauld Place!" Harry screamed, loudly and clearly. Winnie blinked, her head feeling as if it was spinning through time and space at a quicken place. While her knees stayed glued to the floor in Umbridge's office, she spun a million times per minute. She had gotten used to the spinning of her entire body during Floo, but this was a far more peculiar feeling all together.
Until it halted completely.
Winnie's eyes blinked open, she hadn't realized she had squeezed them shut since she shoved her head into the smoke. She could feel her shoulder squeeze against Harry's on the outside, while her face felt as free as feathers floating in the wind. She recognized the long, wooden table of the kitchen instantly. After days of sitting on those peculiar uncomfortable chairs, she was afraid she'll never forget them.
A man sat on one of the many chairs, in his hand sat a parchment while a light green mug sat beside him. Shaggy hair falling in front of his face with red, and white scars scratching parts of his exposed skin. Winnie realized this man was Remus Lupin instantly, and not for the scars that traced his face, but for the knitted sweater that covered his body.
"Sirius?" Harry on the other hand not so much. Winnie's eyes rolled as Remus looked up from the parchment, startled as his eyes traced back to the fireplace.
"Where's Sirius?" She questioned, her voice sounding weird and hollow to her ears, but seemingly fine to Remus who stood from his spot.
"Harry! Winnie!" He spoke, looking thoroughly shocked as his eyes continued to move between each of them. "What are you — what's happened, is everything alright?" He questioned quickly, worry tricking through his face as he continued to stand staring at their faces.
"Yeah," Harry spoke, pausing for a moment as Winnie wished she could look over and see him. "I just wondered — I mean, I just fancied a — a chat with Sirius." He explained, stumbling over his words as Winnie grinned, watching as Remus ran out of the room. They were left with nothing to stare at but chairs and legs of tables, her knees cracking painfully from her hunched over position.
"This is incredibly uncomfortable," she sighed, breaking the silence as she heard Harry snort from beside, his shoulder bumping into hers from in Umbridge's office.
"Really? I thought it was quite relaxing," he drawled, causing her to roll her eyes. Oh yeah, definitely the most relaxing thing in the world, definitely won't make her back feel as if a thousand boulders had fallen upon her.
"What is it?" Sirius' voice boomed around them, a moment later he drifted into the room with Lupin hot in his heels. His long hair sweeped out of his face as he dropped to the ground in front of them, his eyes pierced on Harry as Remus knelt down too. His eyes flicked to Winnie as he offered her a small smile, one she returned as Sirius spoke again. "Are you guys alright? Do you need help?" Sirius questioned, looking between them too.
"No," Harry replied almost instantly, "it's nothing like that ... I just wanted to talk about my dad, and well Winnie just—"
"I'm accepting your offer to move in, I figured you guys aren't totally bloody horrible," she joked, cutting Harry off with a grin. Realizing she hadn't actually known what Harry needed to speak to Sirius about, finding out that it was his father was probably the worst situation for her to rudely push herself into.
"Good choice Poppin's, I'll teach you the ways of life," Sirius grinned, his lips pulled into a smile against his weary face. Winnie thought he looked far better than he did during Yule, his eyes weren't as sunk in, nor were his cheeks as pointed out.
"Merlin, help us all if he teaches you anything," Remus sighed, grinning as Sirius looked over at him with his lips falling open. Despite herself, Winnie caught herself smiling, watching as Sirius nudged him with his shoulder.
"Oi! I'll tell her everything she needs to learn Moony, what would she learn from you? 101 on how to be a complete swat?" He teased, wrinkling his nose while Remus rolled his eyes, looking over at Winnie and sharing a peculiar 'can you believe this guy?' look, making her chew down on the inside of her cheek to stop herself from laughing. Deciding to change the subject, suddenly being brought back to the reason she was there, she directed her words towards Harry, which was quite a weird thing to do considering she couldn't even look at him.
"Harry, I can leave. I didn't ask before deciding to join you, but you know ..." she trailed off, glancing at both Sirius and Remus who were both watching Harry. Shifting on her knees, she waited patiently for him to respond, feeling as if her skin was crawling. There was a certain type of anxiety that filled your insides while you waited for an answer when you couldn't see that person.
"No you can stay, I don't mind. You're my friend," she didn't have to see his face to know that he meant it, and showed how strong he felt their friendship was to allow her to stay and listen to anything about his father. She felt the tiniest bit of emotion for the boy with the ebony locks, the boy who gave her willingly to the family he had left, the boy who helped her without any questions or asking for anything back. She realized then and there that she would follow Harry to the ends of the earth, and even that wouldn't pay back the friendship he had shown her since that first day they had detention together.
"Okay," she replied, shifting on her aching knees once again and letting her lips fall shut. Harry started instantly by answering one of the few questions that trickled on her mind over the past month, Snape was teaching Harry Occlumency. Which meant that it was true that Voldymoldy could get into his mind, her heart squeezed painfully in her chest at the idea. Fingers curling into fist from where they laid on the floor in Umbridge's office.
Harry threw them into a story about how he stumbled upon one of Snape's memories and — of course — he dove into it rather than simply leaving it be. Winnie's lips twisted into a frown, listening quietly from beside him as he retold how his father and his friends ( Sirius, Remus and Peter ) had started being quite annoying prats — in her mind — to Snape back when they were in school after their O.W.L's. How Lily ( Harry's mother ) came to defend him. Which resulted in Snape calling Lily a mudblood. ( Which Winnie couldn't help but feel as if it was expected from the king of terrorizing kids himself )
Once Harry finished, the tension in the air that trickled through the room and the fireplace could be summoned up in one word; guilt. It choked her dry and made her skin crawl in discomfort, she knew guilt well. She saw the face of its unforgiving glare everytime she glanced in the mirror, it was a state of being she wouldn't put on anyone.
"What's a toe rag?" She questioned, desperate to break the silence that pierced the four of them. The memory of Harry retelling how his mother had yelled at his father about how he was a toe rag and she hated him more than anything. It made her wonder how they could ever manage to fall in love after that, but she supposed that wasn't the best question. So toe rag was second best.
Luckily it did the best to break the tension, an awkward laugh leaving Remus' lips as a faraway look glazed over his eyes. Sirius, however, grimaced, looking down at his hands that laid in his lap.
"I wouldn't like you to judge your father on what you saw there, Harry. He was only fifteen—" Remus started, his voice quiet.
"I'm fifteen!" Harry cut in loudly, making her jump and collide with his shoulder rather harshly. She cursed in under her breath, silently glaring at the boy she couldn't see.
"Look, Harry," Sirius cut in, speaking placatingly as his lips pulled into a line. "James and Snape hated each other from the moment they set eyes on each other, so it was one of those things, you can understand that, can't you? I think James was everything Snape wanted to be - he was popular, he was good at Quidditch - good at pretty much everything. And Snape was just this little oddball who was up to his eyes in Dark Arts, and James - whatever else he may have appeared to you Harry - always hated the Dark Arts."
"Yeah," Harry muttered from beside her, Winnie's lips twisting into a frown. Winnie couldn't help but secretly see Sirius' side. They were both kids, and kids can be awfully cruel to one another, she's had her many moments in being particularly rude to others. Zacharias Smith coming out to the top. "But he just attacked Snape for no good reason just because — well, just because you said you were bored," he added, an apologetic tone to his voice.
"I'm not proud of it," Sirius replied quickly, and Winnie knew instantly by the hardened look in his eyes that he did mean it.
"Look, Harry," Remus started after casting Sirius a particular sideways glance. "What you've got to understand is that your father and Sirius were the best in the school at whatever they did — everyone thought they were the height of cool — if they did sometimes got a little carried away—"
"Carried away sounds like they were complete arseholes," Winnie drawled, before instantly stiffening at the thought of both insulting someone who was literally dead as a door knob, and someone who is offering her a place to stay. Her face warmed, though she knew nobody would see the cherry redness of her cheeks.
"That and arrogant little berks," Sirius jokes, as Remus smiled from beside him. A soft twirl of relief trickled through her, glad they didn't get offended by her complete stupidness.
"He kept messing up his hair," Harry said suddenly, his voice twisting as if he was in pain. Winnie fought back twisted laughter by biting her lip, images of Harry running his hands through his hair out of habit filtered through her mind. She wondered if he knew just how much he was like his father. Her heart twisted at the thought that he probably knew very little.
"I'd forgotten he used to do that," Sirius sighed, an affectionate smile twisted into his face as he glanced upwards.
"Was he playing with the Snitch?" Remus asked eagerly, looking at Harry in earnest as Winnie felt the tiniest tilt of a sudden smile fought its way into her face. For a moment, she caught herself thinking of the pain they must feel in their heart, she couldn't help but think that would be the same pain she would feel if she ever lost Cordelia.
"Yeah," Harry replied softly, in her mind, Winnie pictured a fifteen year old James Potter with messy ebony locks, bright hazel eyes and rectangular glasses, messing with his hair and playing with a Snitch. Secretly, Winnie believed she would think he was the world's biggest tosser. "Well ... I thought he was a bit of an idiot."
At this, Winnie did laugh. Loudly, with her eyes crinkling and her shoulders shaking.
"Of course he was a bit of an idiot!" Sirius spoke loudly, his lips tilting into the widest smile she had ever seen on his face. "We were all idiots! Well — not Moony so much," he admitted, looking over at Remus who instantly shook his head, a grimace filtering across his face.
"Did I ever have the guts to tell you I thought you were out of order?" Remus questioned, his lips pulling into a frown as Sirius rolled his eyes.
"Yeah ... well," Sirius paused, sweeping locks of dark hair out of his face. Tattoos exposing from the sleeves of his dress shirt falling down. They were in lines of deep ebony, twisted in complicated circles to form the shape of a dragon on his forearm. "You made us feel ashamed of ourselves sometimes... that was something," Sirius grimaced, his face twisting in as if he was remembering a peculiarly awful memory.
"And," Harry spoke quickly, changing the subject again and aiming it back on his father. "He kept looking over at the girls by the lake, hoping they were watching him." Winnie twisted her nose up at the mention, yup, definitely would think he was a complete tosser.
"Oh, well, he always made a fool of himself whenever Lily was around," Sirius shrugged, picking a piece of dust off of Remus' shoulder. "He couldn't stop himself from showing off whenever he got near her."
"How come she married him?" Harry asked miserably, sounding as if he'd rather hear his parents fall terribly in love at the age of three than hear them yell and hate each other. "She hated him!"
"Nah, she didn't," Sirius snorted, as Remus looked up from his hands, a smile twisting across his scared gestures as he nodded in agreement.
"She started going out with him in seventh year," Remus explained further to Harry, who she suspected was still very confused. She on the other hand was starting to understand better, she could feel sympathy for little Lily Evans who hated a boy more than anything. A boy she despised, but then realized that perhaps he wasn't as awful as she thought.
"Once James had deflated his head a bit," Sirius jokes, grinning.
"And stopped hexing people just for the fun of it," Remus added, a little less joking and more serious with the tone of his words.
"Even Snape?" Harry questioned, as Remus and Sirius shared a pointed look. So clearly not.
"Well," Remus started, running a hand through his sandy hair. "Snape was a special one. I mean he never lost an opportunity to curse James so you couldn't really expect James to take that lying down, could you?"
Once again, Winnie believed he had a point. If someone randomly started hexing her, it wouldn't be long before she fought back.
"And my mum was okay with that?" Harry questioned quickly after, Winnie shifted on her knees, feeling uncomfortable from the prolonged kneeling position.
"She didn't know too much about it, to tell you the truth," Sirius shrugged, looking up from the floor. "I mean, James didn't take Snape on dates with her and jinx him in front of her, did he?" She watched as Sirius frowned, her own lips pulling into a frown. "Look, your father was the best friend I ever had and he was a good person. A lot of people are idiots at the age of fifteen. He grew out of it."
"Yeah okay, I just never thought I'd feel sorry for Snape," Harry snorted, as Winnie's lips titled into a story.
"Well that's something I never thought you would say," she sighed, lips twisting into a small grin.
"Now you mention it," Remus started, shifting on the floor in Grimmauld Place. "How did Snape react when he found out you'd seen all this?"
"He told me he'd never teach me Occlumency again," Harry spoke from beside her, "like that's a big disappointment—"
"He what?" Shouted Sirius from in front of them, Winnie jumped, startled only to start heaving as she inhaled a mouth full of ash.
"Are you serious, Harry?" Remus questioned quickly, eyes wide as if he wouldn't have imagined Snape quitting his job at teaching Harry. Winnie, ( through drags of inhales from her smoke clogged lungs ) couldn't help but not be surprised at all. "He stopped giving you lessons."
"Yeah," Harry spoke rather quickly, his tone trailing between both surprised and confused. "But it's okay, I don't care, it's a bit of a relief to tell you the—"
"I really don't see why it wouldn't be a relief," Winnie muttered, finally managing to breath without feeling as if her throat was scorching and dried.
"I'm coming up there to have a word with Snape!" Sirius' tone borderlined on a deranged parent after finding out their kid was blamed for stealing a bar from a candy store. "But Harry, first of all, you're to go back to Snape and tell him that on no account is he to stop giving you lessons — when Dumbledore hears—"
"I can't tell him that! He'd kill me!" Harry cried as Winnie snorted, shifting on her knees again and wondering how long they've been kneeling there for. "You didn't see him when we got out of the Pensieve."
"He would probably kill him, have you seen him teaching Potions? Merlin," Winnie drawled, rolling her eyes though nobody seemed to be amused by her words. In fact, it was quite the opposite.
"Harry, there is nothing so important as you learning Occlumency," Remus spoke sternly, his tone making the hairs on her neck stand up on edge. Her lips clamped shut, twisting into a line, the urgency and sternness of their faces hitting her square in the gut. It seemed as if everyone's life depended on whether or not Harry knew Occlumency. "Do you understand me? Nothing."
"Okay, Okay," she could feel the movement of his shoulders as he nodded his head. "I'll ... I'll try and say something to him ... but it won't be—" As he was speaking, the sounds of distant footsteps grew closer towards them, causing Winnie's body to stiffen.
"Shush, Harry," she spoke quickly, causing him to cut off and the two elderly males to look over at her. "Do you hear that?" She questioned, hearing the footsteps grow closer.
"Is that Kreacher coming downstairs?" Harry questioned, his tone weary as Winnie looked at both males with wide eyes. If it wasn't, then they just might be in big fucking shite.
"No," Sirius replied, shaking his head as he reclined his head towards the doorway then back at them. "Must be someone at your end..." Winnie's face fell, her heart skipping a beat several different times in her chest.
"We'd better go!" Harry spoke hastily, she felt his hand clamp down on her elbow from the outside, and before she knew it, she was swirling through time and space once again before she landed harshly on the floor in Umbridge's office. Groaning, her eyes squeezed shut the exact time she heard a wheezy voice outside the door.
"Quickly, quickly... ah, she's left it open!" Winnie dove towards the invisibility cloak the exact same time Harry did, their heads banging together as the female bit down on her lip, holding back a groan as Harry squeezed his eyes shut, pulling the cloak over them both. Filch burst into the office at the same time, Winnie's hand clambering around her mouth as she watched him furiously walk around the room, talking to himself feverishly. She watched Harry's elbow digging into her stomach at a very painful angle, as Filch opened Umbridge's drawer in her desk.
"Approval for Whipping ... Approval for Whipping ... I can do it at last ... they've had it coming to them for years," her lips twisted into a scowl from beyond her hand, wondering why in Godric, Filch was still working at Hogwarts. Especially since his eyes glowed with a sickening smile across his pattered face at the idea of being able to whip a child.
He pulled out a piece of parchment, kissed it, then shuffled rapidly out of the room. For a moment, they both laid there in silence, elbow pressed in her stomach and hand clasped around her mouth. Waiting for footsteps to come back, and eventually after a few minutes, nothing greeted them. Harry instantly leapt to her feet, pulling her with him as she collided with the back of his chest, cloak still over them both.
"Bloody hell, Harry. I'm not a rag doll," she grumbled, rubbing her collarbone that had smacked against his shoulder a little too roughly. He sent her a sheepish smile, as she rolled her eyes, sighing and grasping the crook of his elbow to move them towards the door. "Wonder who is getting whipped," she murmured, nose wrinkling at the sentence that just left her mouth.
"I have a feeling it has something to do with the twins," Harry replied quietly as they made their way down the marble staircase. They halted a few steps before the main entrance, where screams and shouts erupting from everywhere around them. The pair moved behind an alcove, quickly removing the cloak. She helped Harry shove it into his bag, along with the knife that allowed them to sneak inside Umbridge's office.
Breathing in heavily, Winnie nodded her head before moving out of the alcove with the ebony haired boy. Their feet carried them towards the noise that took over the castle. It was much like when Trelawney had been sacked. Students stood all around the walls in a great ring, all stood watching the scene. Sticking out like a sore thumb, we're the members of Umbridge's beloved children, aka prissy squad. Winnie ran down the line of students, almost everyone looking particularly pleased with themselves. At least, all besides Cordelia who had a frown plastered across her ivory features. She stood in between Marcus and Millie, with her arms across her chest.
Peeves bobbled around the air around them, staring down at Fred and George who stood in the middle of the floor, looking unbelievably like they were just cornered.
"Told you so," Harry whispered from beside her, ducking down a bit as she rolled her eyes. Reaching up and pushing his face away with her hand, while he grinned.
"So!" Umbridge spoke triumphantly. Winnie spotted her standing just a few steps above them, looking quite smug as she stood a few feet above her prey. "So — you think it's amusing to turn a school corridor into a swamp, do you?" Winnie snorted slightly, because she thought it was rather amusing.
"Pretty amusing, yeah?" Fred questioned, looking as if she was simply a butterfly. Winnie secretly thought that having a mother like Molly Weasley made everyone else seem like nothing. Filch elbowed his way closer to Umbridge, nearly docking Winnie herself, which was fortunate for him. She wouldn't have hesitated punching him, especially with the near joyful look he had on his features.
"I've got the form, Headmistress," his voice was hoarse as he waved the parchment in front of his face. "I've got the form, and I've got the whips waiting ... oh let me do it now ..."
"This is disgusting," Winnie muttered, a scowl tracing her features as she glanced up at Harry, who's own face twisted into a rather painful expression. He nodded, agreeing with her as she turned her attention back towards the scene in front of them.
"Very good, Argus," Umbridge said, smiling delightedly before looking back at the twins. "You two are about to learn what happens to wrongdoers in my school."
"You know what?" Fred tapped the tip of his chin, before he smiled widely. "I don't think we are." He turned to George, who was standing beside him with an equally smug expression. "George, I think we've outgrown full - education."
"Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," George grinned lightly. Winnie's eyebrow raised, wondering just what exactly they had up their sleeve.
"Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" Fred questioned, grinning.
"Definitely," George agreed, and before anyone could even blink, they both yelled ''accio brooms. Somewhere through the air came a loud crash, everyone looking towards the sound with wide eyes and opened mouths. Harry's hand came out to clasp around her shoulder, pushing her downwards just as the twins' brooms came soaring right where their heads were. The brooms haltered right in front of their owners, still wrapped in chains that Umbridge had used to tie them down with.
"We won't be seeing you," Fred grinned, swinging his leg over his broomstick as Winnie stood up, her eyes wide in surprise. They were actually leaving!
"Yeah, don't bother to keep in touch," George added, mounting his broom as well. Fred, meanwhile, glanced around at the assembled students, looking at them all with a rather pleased expression.
"If anyone fancies buying a Portable Swamp, as demonstrated upstairs, come to number ninety-three, Diagon Alley — Weasleys' Wizards Wheezes," he announced in a loud voice, it boomed over the students as Winnie cracked her lips into a wide smile. "Our new premises!"
"Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat," added George, pointing at Professor Umbridge who was nearly brimming at the point of explosion.
"Stop them!" Shrieked Umbridge, pointing up at them with all her might, but it was far too late. Fred and George kicked off from the floor below, soaring high into the air, as Fred looked around the air towards Peeve.
"Give her hell from us, Peeves," he yelled, smirking from ear to ear. Winnie watched, cheering along with the other students with wide eyed grins, as Peeves swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as Fred and George sped out of the front doors into a glorious sunset.
"Well," Winnie grinned, looking over at Harry who was smiling widely with cheers erupting from around them. "That's how you make an exit!"
