4 | Girl in New Orleans

——— SELINA WATCHED AS DAVINA KNELT OVER ELIJAH'S BODY, removing the dagger, staring at it. Selina sighed. After a moment, Davina plunged the dagger back into Elijah's heart, making him dead. Selina turned to see Marcel watching her. Selina faded away to the bayou, where she watched as Thomas, Nathaniel and Jackson was surrounded by other wolves, enjoying the fire, and the food that an elder had made. They were in wolf forms, except Thomas, who stayed human, except during full moons where he was a wolf then. Selina turned to Nathaniel, watching him sadly. She knew his family was dead, along with his brother. Soon enough, Haley would be in his life. Forever.

Haley was wiping down the bar, when she noticed Klaus entering. She noticed Cami looking around, then up to him. "How is it that when you come up to me now, and no one is around besides Haley, I suddenly remember that you just told me you're a vampire, and you're mind-controlling me? And then you leave, and then I go back to thinking you're just some hot guy with a cute accent and money to burn on your sprawling memoir?" Haley giggled at her friend's words. Cami smiled softly at her friend. "I feel you, because I feel the same. Elijah compelled me not to say anything outside the plantation, unless I'm with a Mikaelson, or Hayley." She added in, with a frown. She turned to Klaus. Klaus looked at them in amusement, leaning closer to answer in a low voice. "Well, that's how compulsion works, love." He told Cami, but also telling Haley. Although, Haley was off limits, he tolerated her for Elijah's sake. "Yeah, but what's happening?" Cami asked, tilting her head. "Is it hypnosis? Are my neurons being shut down somehow?" Haley wanted to know, having being in the same major as Cami, with Art as her secondary. Haley shook her head. "No, it's actually opposite, my theory is that when Klaus compelled us, we have no control over what we do or say. Elijah compelled me, I know he was protecting me somehow. But my body couldn't say no. It's like I had to." Haley told her softly, glancing at Klaus, who was amused. "You're always the curious scholar." He told Cami. "Let's talk about Marcel." He gestured to the bar. "You said you have a little information for me." Haley took that cue to walk away from their conversation as she went elsewhere, with a small smile, picturing the two getting together in the future.

Hayley sat on the couch, flipping through a book. Agnes was sitting across from her. Haley walked into the living room, seeing Rebekah drinking from a bottle. Athena was typing on a laptop, at a table. Hayley turned to Athena. "For a girl who was in a coffin, you can handle a laptop fairly well." Athena glanced up, narrowing her eyes. "Lizzie taught me." She shrugged. It was true, Haley had taught Athena how to use one back in Mystic Falls. "Hayley, stop changing the subject." Agnes told her. Haley frowned, turning towards the wolf and the witch. "I told you, Agnes, I feel great." Hayley responded to Agnes. "You are overdue for a checkup." Haley had to agree with the witch. "What am I gonna do?" Hayley asked. "Pop into the Quarter for a quick ultrasound? A pregnant werewolf escorted by a witch. Nothing to see here." Haley rose an eyebrow, looking at Hayley with a curious brow. "A lot of women would kill to have a child." Rebekah told Hayley. "It strikes me as odd than you're not taking better care of yours." Haley bit her lip, hesitantly as she watched Athena and Rebekah. She wanted to ask a dumb question. "I know a doctor in the bayou." Agnes cut in, interrupting Haley's thought. "Off the beaten path. Now, I took the liberty of making an appointment for you. Tonight, after-hours, just us. Vampires will never get word of it." Haley glanced at Hayley. Hayley considered for a moment, rolling her eyes. "Okay, fine. Bayou-baby-doctor it is. But Lizzie tags along." Hayley told her. Hayley has a sense of familiarity around her, like she would be protected. Haley nodded. "Of course, I wouldn't leave you alone by yourself." Haley added in. Athena narrowed her eyes at the Gilbert girl. Although, she didn't trust the witch. "Hm, I shall tag along, if you don't mind?" Athena more-of asked than stated. Like Hayley, Athena felt a familiar sense of comfort. Athena knew Haley from Mystic Falls, and Athena remembered that Haley never really tried to harm her or her family. Hayley, Athena and Haley followed Agnes out of the room. Rebekah sighed, looking at photos of the French Quarter.

Later that night, Haley had brought her bow and arrow, after explaining it was her protection. Athena had let this go, seeing as she would be there. She was slowly starting to warm up to the fact Haley would be around, but she didn't trust her entirely. Haley glanced around the bayou the clinic. "This is the doctor's office?" Hayley asked. Agnes smiled. "Dr. Paige is only this far out because Marcel's men kept terrorizing her patients. Go! She won't bite!" Hayley, Haley and Athena nervously exited the car, walking towards the clinic. Haley kept an a warily eye, her bow ready to aim and shoot. Athena was listening. She didn't hear Agnes calling someone on the phone. "Guys, I sense someone." Haley called out. She didn't know how, or why. Athena knew this wasn't the time to ask or explain, because she heard something. Athena turned to see Thomas, Nathaniel and Jackson in their wolf forms. Athena noticed Nathaniel watching Haley curiously. The chocolate brown wolf tilted its head, as if scrutinizing her. Athena rose an eyebrow, turning to Thomas who shook its head. "It's okay, it's the wolves." Athena assured Haley. Haley nodded. "I sensed them, but I sensed something else." She spoke softly, but she followed Athena and Hayley inside. She slowly put her bow down.

Dr. Paige was giving Hayley an ultrasound, hearing the fetal heartbeat. Haley stood by the door, not once wavering her gaze, or her bow. She was cautious. And Athena seemed to have questions running through her mind, but she wouldn't admit, witches did creep her out, hence the experiences with some when she woke up. "Your baby's heart rate is perfect." Haley smiled softly. "I knew it." Hayley told her. "She's a tough one, like her mom." Dr. Paige chuckled, handing her a tissue to wipe the ultrasound gel off of her abdomen. Hayley wipes the ultrasound gel off of her torso, sitting up. Dr. Paige noticed Hayley's crescent-moon shaped birthmark on her shoulder." That's a unique birthmark." Hayley pulled on her sweater. Haley and Athena watched, curious to why Dr. Paige would speak of it. "We're pretty much done here, right?" Athena stepped forward, raising an eyebrow. Haley held her bow in a tight grip, watching the witch with an intense gaze. Athena noticed that her sister had texted Hayley. 'Where are you?' It had read. "Your blood pressure is a bit high, I've got something for it." Dr. Paige told her, walking away, where Agnes was waiting in the next room. While Hayley replied to Rebekah, Haley sensed something. "Guys." She spoke, alert. They heard a wolf howling. Haley sensed two of them. Hayley, startled, stood, walking to the window, looking out and seeing the car's headlights approaching, making her suspicious and anxious. Haley turned to see Dr. Paige. "Hayley, run." She spoke, her voice tense with anxious and worry. "Ah, you know, I'm—I'm actually not that good with pills." Hayley told her. Haley turned to Hayley, with a serious look. "Heh, neither am I, truth be told." Dr. Paige told her, nervous, setting the medicine cup on the table, starting to prepare something. "Hayley, when I say run, I mean it." Haley warned her, preparing her bow and arrow, aiming towards the door, her eyes flashed golden unconsciously, Athena noticed it immediately, but now wasn't the time, seeing they were prepared to be attacked. Haley noticed a group of intimidating-looking men walked into the clinic, whispering something unintelligible to Agnes. Athena glowed her eyes violet, her veins appeared. "Can't we have some sort of privacy and peace to get an ultrasound without witches killing an innocent baby?" Athena scoffed, flashing to one of the men, snapping its neck, and stared at Haley. "I'm trusting you, Gilbert." Haley nodded quickly. Hayley turned around to see Dr. Paige preparing a syringe. Haley noticed. "Not on my watch." Haley hissed. She let go of the arrow, making the syringe fall to the ground. Hayley grabbed her arm and pushed it away from her, stabbing the syringe into the doctor's neck, after picking it up from the ground. Haley flew more arrows towards the men, backing away to cover Hayley. "Run!" She yelled at Hayley, releasing more arrows she had left. Hayley managed to shut and lock it before they could enter. One of the men grabbed Haley from behind. Athena raced to her, snapping the man's neck. One of the men rattled the doorknob. Hayley shrugged to open the window to escape. When they finally got in, Hayley had already escaped and began running away. Haley shot an arrow to a man's chest, killing him instantly. Haley turned around, running towards the front door, while shooting arrows that were running towards her. Athena checked the bathroom, before running after Haley. "We need to find her!" Athena yelled at Haley. "On it!" She yelled. She knew Athena would be strong enough to get the rest of the men. She wrapped the bow into its place, and began to run, taking off towards the bayou. She heard wolves growling and howling, but somehow, she knew they wouldn't harm her. "Hayley!" She yelled, worried for her friend. She dialed Rebekah's number. "Hey, we've got a problem. Athena's handling one part, but Hayley's missing." She told her, sighing as she heard her, and hung up. Haley ran a hand through her hair, looking in whichever direction she may have ran to.

The men who raided the clinic were still looking for Hayley; and they passed her, not seeing that she was hiding behind a tree. Haley turned around; and climbing up a tree, a habit she had practiced as a child, when hunting. She reached on a high branch. Her bow and arrow was ready to aim. She noticed Hayley below her, running to them, kicking the Man 1 in the gut, making him fall to the ground. Haley shot an arrow to his chest, killing him instantly. She jumped, kicking Man 2 down as well, snapping his neck. Haley noticed Man 3 tried to attack her. Hayley grabbed a knife from his hands, using it to cut his neck, spinning in the air. Man 4 attacked her. Haley shot an arrow to his arm, which Hayley used to grab his handgun using it to push him to the ground, kicking him. Haley let another arrow fly to his head, killing him instantly. Hayley crouched on the ground, letting her eyes glow werewolf-gold, looking for any more threats. A large, burly man approached upon her. Haley noticed Rebekah, but released an arrow into his chest. Rebekah snapped his neck as well. She looked around. "Have to say, I'm impressed." Haley jumped down from the tree. Athena rushed to the girls, raising an eyebrow, seeing arrows, dead men, and a blood covered werewolf, crouched. Hayley turned to see Haley beside Rebekah. "How did you find me?" Hayley asked Rebekah. "Your text got me halfway, Lizzie's phone call, and camp hearing did the rest." Rebekah answered. "Who are they?" She asked. Haley sighed. "Witches, warlocks, whatever. I told Hayley to run, Athena and I tried to hold them off." Haley replied to her question. Rebekah rose an eyebrow, turning to Athena, who nodded. Rebekah noticed more men with flashlights in the distance. "There's more of them." She looked at Hayley. "Run!" Hayley reluctantly started to run away. "Gilbert, aim your arrows." Rebekah spoke, thankful for the Gilbert girl for once. Haley readied her bow, climbing back into the same tree, high enough the witches couldn't get to her. Rebekah turned toward the witches, muttering to herself. "If I had a dollar for every mess my family has got me into..." Haley's eyes widen when Rebekah was shot in the heart with two arrows, which temporarily neutralized her. She fell to the ground. Haley narrowed her eyes, starting to fire the arrows. "Athena!" She screamed when she noticed the witches neutralized her with arrows to her chest. Haley continued to fire arrows at the witches, which some were dead by this point. Hayley was shot in the shoulder with an arrow, which seemed to be coated in something that caused her to pass out and fall to the ground. Haley's eyes glowed brighter. She cursed in Italian, shooting arrows, and standing up. For a huntress, she was very light as she climbed higher, and shot more arrows to the witches and warlocks. She heard wolves howling. She sensed two wolves watching her.

The chocolate one who was drawn to Haley watched with a nervous, but wary glance. The black wolf knew Haley was protecting Athena, Hayley and Rebekah. The smaller black wolf was gazing at Hayley's body, but suddenly it disappeared. The wolf blinked its eyes, and hidden further into the shadows. The bigger wolf hid as well, seeing Athena was unconscious, but he knew Haley was there. Selina watched this all unfold; and she was not very happy. She folded her arms. "Damned witches and their witchy tricks." She mumbled, her British accent strong. Selina sighed, turning to the wolves who was watching Haley in the tree.

After a long while. Haley had hopped down beside Rebekah, with her bow behind her back. She had went and picked up every arrow she shot. Rebekah was just waking, Haley pulling the arrows out of her heart. Rebekah groaned, sitting up to see dead bodies of witches, torn apart and ripped to shreds. Most of them also had arrows impaled, whether it was their head or their heart. Rebekah looked around in confusion. "What the hell?" She stood up, with Haley's help. "You tell me. I didn't even know, all I was doing was shooting arrows, and I was high in the tree." She added in, confused and a bit lost. Rebekah nodded, understanding her words. "Thank you." Rebekah spoke. "Just because you helped us, doesn't mean we fully trust you, I, however, trust you a teeny tiny bit." She used her fingers together to empathize how little. Haley smiled. "It's okay, trust is earned, not given." She spoke softly. Rebekah nodded. Both Haley and Rebekah looked around. "Hayley? Hayley!" They both called out, but Hayley was gone. Haley's eyes subconsciously moved to where she had felt a gaze, but the brown wolf was hidden in the trees, relief in his features.

Rebekah, Haley and Athena were walking around, looking for clues as to where Hayley could be. They saw the doctor passed out on the floor next to the used syringe, with an arrow in her chest. Haley bent down and pulled the arrow, without a blink and placed it in her satchel, having needing to wash them. Rebekah rose an eyebrow as she saw many arrows. Klaus suddenly appeared, making Haley aim her bow, on instinct. She sighed when Athena gently placed a hand on Haley's bow, lowering it. "Sorry." She mumbled, blushing in embarrassment. Athena assumes since the whole witch chaos thing, Haley was on alert. Klaus seemed to sense the same, so he let it go. "Wow." Rebekah told him sarcastically. "You abandoned your quest for power to help out your family. Having an off day?" Klaus looked at Rebekah calmly. "Who took her, Rebekah?" He asked. Haley frowned. "I don't know." Rebekah told him. "What do you mean, you don't know?" Klaus asked. "And who killed her attackers, aside from Haley, I assume." He gestured to the Gilbert girl, who waved. "I don't know. We know that Haley used her bow to kill most of them." Rebekah told him. "I had an arrow in my heart, if it wasn't Hayley who killed them, then—." Rebekah was cut off by a wolf howling in the distance. Haley turned her head immediately towards the sound, furrowing her eyebrows as she walked outside the clinic. Klaus looked at them and raised his eyebrows. "Lovely." Athena told them. "Maybe her cousins would know where she is." Athena led the way, following Haley towards the door. Rebekah followed,

Klaus followed his sisters outside, speechless. "Guys." Haley called out, staring at Hayley who was stumbling toward them, her clothes tattered and dirty. She looked dazed and exhausted. Athena scanned the area, seeing Thomas, Nathan and Jackson watching them. Athena gave them a small smile. Haley watched Hayley in confusion, and worry. "Hayley." Klaus told her. "What happened? Tell me what happened." Hayley shook her head, staring at them with a dazed look. "I can't remember." Hayley told him. Klaus examined Hayley for wounds. Haley noticed she was healed. "You've completely healed. There's not a scratch on you." Haley tilted her head. "One of the perks of being a werewolf, remember?" Hayley asked. "No, not that fast." Hayley seemed to faint, about to fall. Haley on one side and Rebekah on the other, put their arms around Hayley to keep her standing, looking at Klaus. "Leave her alone." Rebekah and Haley helped Hayley sit down on the steps. Haley rubbed her back. Haley bit her lip, Rebekah noticed. "It's the baby. The vampire blood, Klaus' vampire blood in your system, it can heal any wound." Haley spoke quietly, looking at him and Athena. Athena nodded in agreement. "That makes sense, Nik." She spoke softly, touching Klaus' arm. Klaus turned to face them, looking at them in shock. Rebekah and Haley turned to Haley. "Your own baby healed you." Rebekah told her softly. Klaus smiled at the thought. Athena looked at Hayley. "How did you escape? Outnumbered, unarmed? Those men were ripped to shreds." Hayley thought for a moment, thinking back to the the black wolf with golden eyes. "I think it was the wolf. I think it's trying to protect me." Athena smiled knowingly. Jackson saved her. Haley frowned. Klaus pointed at Hayley angrily, but the anger wasn't directed towards her. "The witches were supposed to protect you. When I get my hands on Sophie Deveraux—." Haley cut in. "It wasn't Sophie, Klaus." She spoke softly. "It was Agnes." Hayley told him, Haley nodded. "Fine." Klaus told them. "Agnes, Sophie, all the same to me, I'll slaughter the lot of them." Athena shook her head. "Not if Elijah gets there first." She told them. Haley and Rebekah glanced at Athena in shock. "Elijah?" Rebekah repeated. "Did you find him?" She asked. "He's been in touch, and he has a plan, and Haley led me to him, actually." Athena told her with a smile. She looked at Haley and Hayley. "All he asks is that we take care of both of you." Hayley and Haley smiled. "Hey, so... can we go home now? I'd like to sleep for a few days." Haley giggled, nodding. Hayley stood. Klaus nodded with a smile. When Hayley tried to walk, she stumbled and started to fall. Haley went to catch her, but Klaus rushed toward Hayley, catching her, picking her up in a cradle. "Ooh, I've got you, love. I've got you." Rebekah, Haley, Athena, walked towards their cars, Hayley still in Klaus' arms.

Later that night, Haley woke up with a gasp, like a tug pulling at her. She frowned as she got out of her bed, at her appointment. She didn't bother of changing from her pajamas. But she started to walk out the front door with her bag, and following the tug. Soon enough, she was at the St. Anne's Church. "What the...?" She trailed off, following her tug. Luckily, the door was unlocked, as she let herself in. She frowned as she followed the tug. She reached the attic. Seeing the door was closed, she knocked on it. Davina heard a floorboard creak, turning around. Davina walked towards Elijah's coffin. She heard Elijah's voice from behind her. "It's alright Davina." Davina turned to face him in surprise. "I don't mean you any harm, though, I do think it's time we had a talk. However, I have a friend waiting outside the room." He gestured towards the door. Davina frowned, walking to open it. Haley frowned in confusion. Haley noticed Elijah. "Elijah..." She breathed, relief, worry, concern, and confusion. Elijah smiled softly at the young Gilbert. "Come in." Davina spoke warily. Haley raised her hands in surrender, but stepped in, looking at Elijah with confusion, but she faced Davina with confusion and wonder.

•• And this chapter is up! Ah, for once, I completed this chapter in a short amount of time, because well, I was anxious to write this chapter.
•• Please excuse the shortness of this chapter, since Haley was with Athena and Hayley, I had no reason to write in the festival scenes, seeing Athena and Haley weren't there. Oops.
•• So a lot of things happened, you saw Haley Gilbert in action, and her instincts.
•• So, the wolves made another appearance, as well as Haley and Hayley bonding, yay.
•• Athena will have questions about Haley, since the whole witch issue thing, but she knew that they were busy, Haley isn't off the hook, yet.
•• Rebekah trusts her, a teeny, tiny bit, that's very little for an Original, but Athena's also warming up in a way as well.
•• Ding, ding, ding, Haley is being pulled to Elijah, ooh, what happens next?
•• Stay tuned for Sinners and Saints!
