Cubs
"Come on Satren! You're such a slow poke!" Aspyn giggled as she looked behind to see Satren tripping over his own two front paws.
"I'm trying, I'm trying! It's hard to run in a rocky cliff!" Satren complained to her.
"Well try harder bro." Rayon said boldly to Satren, giving him a smile. He continued onward up the mountain pass.
"Why are we even going up here guys?" Satren asked as he tripped over a rock and landed on his face.
"Because there's food up here!
And it's an adventure!" Rayon replied happily.
"Let's hope there's no bear like last time, remember?" Aspyn said, rolling her eyes towards Rayon.
"Hey, you can't blame me! My nose was stuffed up that day," he dropped his ears.
They all fell silent for a second. They burst out laughing. Rayon perked up and laughed along.
"The thing that I love about memories like that is you can laugh about it, if you survive."
Satren said and laughed to himself. The others weren't amused.
"Oh come on! You know that was funny guys!" Satren complained again.
"It's not . . . That's hilarious!" The two busted out laughing and rolling on the rocks.
"That joke was lame, I got an even better-"
"Shh! I heard something move.
Come on, maybe it's a deer or something edible." Rayon said as he snuck up the pass.
"Man, it was a good one too!" Satren complained another time.
They crept closer to the peak of the pass and looked over the corner. Rayon ducked back as fast as he looked around the corner. He looked frightened.
"Is it a bear?" Aspyn asked concernedly.
"No, it's a baby deer! Easy pickings! Three cubs against one baby deer!" Rayon said happily.
"That seems a bit too good to be true . . ." Satren said."Maybe we should go get something else."
"No way! There's no way in check I'm missing this opportunity for food! Let's go!" Rayon said bravely.
"Um Rayon . . . Behind you." Aspyn stuttered.
Rayon looked behind him and saw a giant deer looking him straight in the eyes. He stepped back. The deer stepped forward.
He stepped back even more.
The deer stared at the cubs for a long time.
"Any ideas guys?" Rayon asked his friends.
"One." Satren said as he flung dirt into the deers eyes.
The deer snorted and stood on it's hind legs trying to get the dirt out if it's eyes. The cubs ran between its legs and dashed towards the baby deer. They tackled the deer down and all three smiled at each other. That is until the deer came and stomped in the peak. The rock below them crumbled as it started to fall.
"Uh oh . . . Ahhhhhh!" They yelled in unison as the rock gave out and slid on the side of the mountain.
"This is like one of these rides two legs ride on those giant monsters!" Rayon said excited.
"Except this one is a life or death one!" Satren yelled in horror.
The three cubs looked to their side and saw the deer they flung dirt at tumbling down, breaking all bones and one antler. The cubs winced as they watched the deer land at the bottom, crunching everything in its body.
They looked forward and saw a rock curving upwards. They exchanged looks and braced themselves. The rock flew straight up into the air and the cubs flew off. The baby deer was launched over the trees and disappeared from sight. Satren reached for Aspyn and Rayon, but blacked out as he impacted.
Minutes later, he woke up in the cave he lived in. He got up and fell down instantly, for his paw was twisted. He looked around and saw Aspyn and Rayon eating the deer they witnessed die.
"What happened to the baby deer we caught?" He asked them.
"It flew over the trees and we lost it, so we just took the grown one. Loss for win right?" Aspyn replied. "Come eat some!"
"My paw is twisted because of the crash. Can you help me get over there?" Satren asked her.
"Here, I got you bro!" Rayon said coming to his rescue.
Satren smiled. He didn't know what he would do without Rayon.
"Thanks." Satren complimented Rayon.
"No problem, what would you do without me?" Rayon grinned to Satren.
"Let's hope it never comes to that . . ." Satren chuckled.
