Heal
~Chapter Three~ ((Long overdue))
Heal
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nate was tending to Noah as bet he could without supplies as I rummaged through the small brown drawers under our bathroom sink. The medical kit had to be in here all Noah needed were pain meds and bandages. Opening the last possible drawer and coming up with nothing I dropped to the cold tile floor in defeat and rested my head on my palm, and began a small prayer in Cherokee.
o gi do da - ga lv la di he hi
Our Father, heaven dweller,
ga lv quo di yu - ge se s di - de tsa do v i
My loving will be (to) Thy name.
tsa gv wi yu hi - ge sv - wi ga na nu go i
Your Lordship let it make its appearance.
After I was finished I open my eyes and slowly rose from the floor. If only my E-du-du Grandfather could see me now. I favored him now as I was getting older I had his brown small slanted eyes and his defined jaw my skin lightly tan as his always used to be. He always told me nothing was stronger than my heritage he gave me pride in my Cherokee bloodline. I hovered above the sink staring into the mirror taking in these features once more and I swear it almost felt as if my E-du-du were actually looking back at me. Don't be ridiculous. I mentally argued my self and exited the small bathroom I didn't enjoy the fact I was coming back empty handed but things were tight around here now. We had limited supplies since there was always someone getting hurt I guess we'd just lost track. My stomach grumbled as I made it back into the living room. We'd forget to eat if bellies didn't do that.
Noah was still on the coach writhing in pain and Nate was still by his side like a mother hen. heh mother hen. A smile spread across my face at my own childish pun but when I looked back to the situation it quickly faded. "He's got a fever that's the only reason he isn't on his feet by now" Nate said his voice came out sounding deep and rumbley is that a word? Nate was the mother hen of our little gang I guess you could call it, they all liked to call me 'runt' it sounds better in cherokee Usdi (ous-dee) . Noah is the most serious out of all us I mean dude is intens-
Nate's voice pulled me out of my own thoughts and I stared at his mouth focusing back in on the conversation "...If we do all that we'll probably be able to be worry free tonight" Fuck. I didn't hear a word he said. I put on my best poker face and nodded pretending I got any of what was said, I'd just end up following his lead anyway. That seemed to convince him and he focused back onto Noah.
I took this time to see if there was anything to eat upon entering the kitchen my eyes fell on our olive green refrigerator it looked like a beautiful light was shining from it a true angel if I've ever seen one. I swung open the door and it's radiant light flashed onto my face. A packet of raw meat was sitting right on the second shelf my hands greedily reached for it and set it on the counter top near a gas stove. Now pan to cook it, it was going to pretty much be rare but i still liked to sear it a bit. I reached above my head grabbed a pan and ignited the stove all in one motion. Enjoying the sizzling noise the steak made as it cooked. I inhaled its smell as the smoke rose up from the pan gracing my nose with its presence "Mmm...." I grinned at the food.
