Torn Anniversary Contest- Chapter 17: The Longest Day

*Adam's POV*

I lay awake in my bed, staring at the ceiling unable to sleep. With everything that had been going on it was amazing I got any sleep anymore. However, tonight was a little better, now that I had Ty back.

But, who knew how long it would truly last? Deep down a part of me was afraid of Ty being ripped away from me again. It could be tomorrow, it could be years from now. Who knows. Another part of me was hopeful. Hopeful that this would work, that Ty and I would be together forever, safe. Some people would say it's false hope, but hope is hope. Is it not?

I was about to drift to sleep when I heard a yell from Ty's room. "I'm sorry!"

He must've had a nightmare. I threw off my covers and tiptoed toward his room, gently pushing open the door with a creak. "Ty?" I whispered into the darkness. I saw him look over at me, his eyes full of tears threatening to spill. I walked over and sat down beside him, wrapping my arms around him. He leaned into the embrace and cried into my chest.

"They were killing them Adam, they're going to die." He said between hiccups.

"Shush, it's okay, it's only a nightmare." I replied gently, rocking him back and forth to soothe his shaking body. He cried and hiccuped for a while longer, until he couldn't cry anymore. I looked over at the clock. It was 2 am. "It's 2 am, I won't wake you in the morning. You wake up when you want to." I told him. He looked up at me with a lil smile, that precious smile of his that I love so much. I couldn't help myself, I gently kissed the top of his head.

"Thank you." He whispered. I gave him a comforting smile, standing up and gently ruffling his hair.

"Get some rest, okay?"

He rolled his eyes. "Yes mom." He replied in a childish voice which made me chuckle. "Night Adam."

"Night Ty." I said, exiting the room, gently closing the door behind me. I went back to my room and laid down, might as well get a few hours of sleep. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

I woke up early the next morning. Checking on Ty before going downstairs to make some breakfast. He slept peacefully and cutely curled up in the covers. Good, sleep was something he desperately needed.

I made my way downstairs and to the kitchen. It had frosted outside and it was covering the windows, trees and grass. Even though it was cold, the frost sparkled beautifully and the birds were singing their morning song. I made myself some breakfast, quickly ate it and then began making some for Ty. I put some toast into the toaster and got out a knife and some butter, and while I waited for the toast to pop up I made some hot chocolate. One of his favorites, setting the dishes on the try along with a lil note to say good morning.

I didn't want to wake you up.

Bon appetite.

Adam xx

The toast popped up, filling the room with the smell. I spread some butter on the toast, set it on a plate and quietly carried it upstairs to Ty's room. He was still asleep, so I set it on the bedside table and went back downstairs to begin making myself some coffee when there was a knock at the door. My heart stopped for a moment and I tiptoed over and peeked out the peep hole and sighed in relief when I saw it was only Jason. I opened the door and gave him a smile. "Hey," I greeted.

"Hiya." He replied with a small smile of his own.

"Come on in." I said, stepping aside letting him in.

He stepped in, gently shutting the door behind him. "I'm not gonna stay long, I just came to ask how he's doing."

"He had a nightmare last night..." I trailed off. "But after some comfort he slept soundly through the night, he's still asleep right now actually. Did you want to go see him?"

"No, that's okay. He needs the sleep, let him be for now." He said.

I nodded, gently rubbing the back of my neck.

"There's uh, another thing I wanted to inform you about. For this to work, Ty is gonna have to change his identity. I've made one for him and I need you to pass the information on to him when he wakes up. Okay?" He said, his voice was a bit stern but it still had his friendly tone. He just really wanted this to work for us, and I was grateful for that.

"Yeah, no problem." I replied.

"Alright, his name is Matt Parker. He has no relation to Tyler Ellis and as far as everyone is concerned Tyler Ellis doesn't exist. Also, he has to wear a colored contact lenses to hide his eyes."

I nodded. "Matt Parker, got it."

Jason gave me a small smile and patted my head. "Alright, I have to head to my post. Tell him that," he turned around to leave. Opening the door and pausing before leaving, he looked back at me. "Be careful, Adam. And the best of luck to both of you. I'll keep tabs on you to make sure everything is going alright."

"Thank you, Jason. Thank you for everything."

He gave a small smile and a salute and headed off, closing the door behind him. I went back to the kitchen and back to making myself some coffee.

Ty emerged a little while later with the dishes and a smile on his face. I was sitting on top the counter sipping the coffee I had made, while Milton and Bailey were curled up asleep next to the burning fire. I smiled at Ty, his hair looked ridiculous and I couldn't help myself. "You look gorgeous as always." He looked into the window and quickly fixed up his hair and gave me a peck on the cheek. "Jason came round earlier, asking if you were okay." I said, following him to the lounge. He crouched down and scratched Bailey and Milton.

"Well, I'm alright I guess." He replied, looking up at the fire.

I decided to bring up the identity thing. "You have to change you're whole identity. Your name is now Matt Parker, you have no connections to Tyler Ellis and Tyler Ellis no longer exists." I told him, repeating as Jason had said.

He was quiet for a moment, probably letting it sink in. "Am I still your boyfriend though?" He asked.

"Well, I guess. Jason didn't say anything about that, so I guess we're safe for now." I saw his smile fade a little.

"We are different, we can never be together for long. When they finally catch us, we will be torn like paper." He said sadly.

I frowned and shuffled over to him. Sitting next to him by the warm fire. "We've just got to look to the future now. The past is history, tomorrow is a mystery." I said, putting my arm around his shoulders. I smiled at him. "Jason also said you have to wear colored contact lenses."

He groaned loudly. "Well, if it's going to help me blend in then I guess I have to." I let out a laugh at his groan. Then there was silence for awhile before he spoke again. "I feel bad for the others. Seto, Brice, Ian, Ant and Preston. Not to mention my family, I just abandoned them." He stated. I didn't reply, I didn't know how. "What methods of torture does Hughes have up his sleeves now I wonder."

"That guy is a cheat." I told him. "He shouldn't deserve to be in power."

"Neither does his friend Aceti."

"Who's Aceti?" I asked confused.

"General, Jerome Aceti, Hughes right hand man."

"Oh him."

"He's got a crush on Mitch." He mumbled. I rolled my eyes. "He did this." Ty pointed to the scar on his eye.

"That gives me another reason for me to kick his butt." I growled.

"Please don't, I don't want anymore people to get hurt." Ty whispered so quietly I almost didn't hear him. I bit my tongue and calmed myself down.

For the rest of the day, we just stayed inside, soaking it what had happened the past few days. Hughes did a radio message saying that the Lox were being treated properly. Ty and I knew they were all lies though. You could hear it in his stupid voice. There was no excitement or happiness. He was trying to seem serious, he also sounded kinda angry. After that we just watched a bunch of trashy television and ate junk food, it was the most food Ty had probably eaten in awhile, so it felt nice to spoil him after everything he'd been through. We started watching Attack on Titan and Ty passed out around the fifth episode. Awhile later he woke up, he looked a little on edge but I didn't bother him. It started snowing as the sun began to set. I yawned and stretched, and a wave of panic rushed through me as my hoodie sleeve fell down revealing something I'm not proud of. I quickly brought my arms down hoping Ty didn't see it, but he was way to observant for that.

"Adam?" He asked. I tried to play it off but he rolled up my sleeve revealing the cuts. Three scars going across my wrist. "Why? When did you do this?" He said starting panicked. My mood dropped, this is something I had been hoping he wouldn't find out about.

"I blamed myself for what happened, when they took you away." I said. Ty shook his head.

"I don't understand, you're always so happy, I would never imagine you doing something like that." He said sadly.

I sighed, pulling my sleeve back down. "You know I thought about it when Sky passed away." I said softly. Sky was my sister, who died of terminal cancer 2 years ago. I blamed myself for her death because I thought I could've done more for her. I had told Ty I thought about cutting but I never actually did it. I did because of Ty because I just couldn't handle it. "When you left, I just broke. Tyler helped me a little, but not much." I replied.

We were silent for awhile, until finally he hugged me. "Promise me you will never do it again?" He whispered.

I hugged back, pulling him closer. "Promise."

A/N: I wrote this for an Anniversary contest for the book Torn by: EmmoyDino_FTW

It's an amazing story and is so fudging sad, so if you like that kind of feelsy story I highly recommend it. It will break your heart, a lot. Anyway Emmoy here is my entry, I hope you enjoyed! (My sister and I joked about writing this through Milton's POV but I felt it was to serious to do that.)

By the way I also do not condone cutting! If you cut or know someone who cuts, please talk to someone for help... Don't suffer or let someone suffer alone.
