Davick~

(This will be in the World of Little Lost Lamb)

*Nick's POV*

I sat in my rocking chair that was outside of my house. Wild David curled up asleep in my lap, his side gently raising and falling with his breathing. I gently strokes his bright turquoise fur absently, watching the trees sway in the breeze. It was a beautiful day; the sky was blue with not a cloud in it. The sun was shining brightly keeping it nice and warm, but with the cool breeze it was quite pleasant. Wild David was taking a nap after a nice lunch. I didn't have anything else to do that day and I didn't want to go for a walk with the chance of him waking up alone, that could be a disaster. So, instead I decided to join him. I closed my eyes and gently rocked in the chair, keeping my hand gently on him.

I had apparently fallen asleep whilst my eyes were closed because the next thing I knew, I was being awoken by something licking my cheek. I opened my eyes expecting it to be Wild David but it caught me off guard when I saw a creature that looked just like Wild David only brown and larger. Wild David had leapt off my lap and was quivering in fear under the chair at the larger creature. I gently picked up the brown one and set it down on the ground and scooped up Wild David and held his quivering form close to my chest. He curled up and nuzzled into my chest and looked down at the other fluffy creature. It looked up at me, eyes similar to Wild David's only without the blue outer rim. Perhaps it was a similar species? That would be wonderful, the species could be repopulated. If it was a female of course. Wild David hopped out of my arms and cautiously approached the larger creature and sniffed cautiously. The larger one sniffed back and made a small noise before trying to paw at him. I watched curiously as they interacted with each other. At first they were both cautious but soon they calmed down and played with each other. My heart leapt for joy that Wild David now had a play mate, but where did this one come from?

The brown one hopped off the porch and looked at Wild David as though to follow and play with him. He looked at me as though asking permission. I smiled and gently nudged him.
He let out a happy squeak and hopped down and chased the other creature around the yard. I sat on my porch and pondered, it appears my parenting job just doubled. I may have to give Cal a call and ask for assistance.

I went inside and talked to Cal on my phone, keeping the door open so Wild David could see me from the yard as he played with his new friend. We talked for a lil while about what to do with this new creature that I stopped paying attention to the two outside until it went quiet.
"One moment, Cal. It got quiet," I set the phone down and peeked outside and looked around the porch. Wild David had decided to take a nap in the sun, but the brown one was nowhere to be found. A part of my heart sunk. Our possibly only way to repopulate Wild David's kind was gone just like that. I let out a quiet sigh. Perhaps if I leave some food out for it it will come back. I grabbed a bowl and set some food in it and set it out on the porch. I gently scooped up my sleeping Wild David and went back inside. I explained to Cal what happened and she agreed that leaving food out for it was a wise idea. We talked for a little while longer till my stomach rumbled, startling Wild David awake. He looked at my stomach and pawed at it in confusion. I let out a small chuckle telling Cal goodbye and headed to the kitchen for some dinner. Wild David and I ate together but I noticed he kept gazing up at the window the showed the front porch. I guess he missed his new friend as well. I gently scratched behind his ears. "Don't worry. I'm sure they'll be back." I told him.

He murred quietly in response and nuzzled my hand. After dinner we headed off to bed. It's funny how napping can even make you tired. I was out a few seconds before my head even hit the pillow.

***

The next day I awoke to Wild David pawing at my nose eagerly. At first I made a noise in protest and rolled my face into my pillow to ignore him. However, the persistent buggar began licking the back of my neck and I couldn't help but burst into a fit of giggles and sat up. "Okay okay, I'm up," I said gently grabbing him and setting him in my lap. He looked up at me and mewled before bouncing around and finally off the bed. He then proceeded to run downstairs. I blinked in surprise. Maybe he was hungry. I made my way out of bed and down to the kitchen but to my surprise Wild David wasn't there. Instead, he was at the window, pawing at it frantically with his little paws. "You wanna go outside?" I walked over and opened up the door. Wild David ran through my legs and as I peeked out I saw the creature from yesterday eating out of the bowl I left out yesterday. It looked up at me and made a happy purr like noise before continuing to eat. Wild David bounced around it happily. I went back inside and made him some food so he could eat next to his new friend. Whilst the two ate, I made myself some toast and coffee.

The day from there was fairly similar to yesterday. Wild David spent all day playing with his new friend. They even went swimming in a small pond I have near my home. I watched them from the comfort of my porch and was happy to see them both so happy. After they're swim they decided to take a nap in the sun to dry their fur. I made them and myself some lunch in the mean time. Whilst they played I did some reading and some photography.

Around dinner time the other creature disappeared again. I left food out for it as I did the day before and I took Wild David inside for our own dinner. As he ate he kept glancing over at the window, as though hoping his new friend would return. After he ate he sat at the window and watched for awhile before giving up and rubbing himself against my leg letting out a sleepy mewl. I yawned and gently scooped him. "Me too bud," and I took him upstairs and we went to bed.

The next couple days were basically the same. The creature would come over. It and Wild David would play until it disappeared and I got "work" done while they kept themselves busy. Honestly, being a bachelor in the middle of the woods the only work I had to do was clean and kind of whatever I wanted. Still, this new creature was a big help with taking care of Wild David. I'd watch them play sometimes just to see how they acted naturally. I took notes as well for future reference. I remained cautious around the creature however. I didn't want to scare it away and leave Wild David without a playmate. It seemed pretty okay with my presence though, so I wasn't terribly worried. That reminded me, I wasn't sure if this creature was a boy or a girl yet. I should find that out tomorrow next time it's over. I bathed Wild David and by the time he had dried off he was already passed out asleep on my lap as I did some reading. Let's say I either read the whole night or passed out half way through the book, I don't quite remember.

***

During the night there had been a heavy storm. How do I know? Some thunder spooked my lil buddy and he clawed my leg waking me up. I stayed up comforting him till he fell back asleep which took a long while. We both mutually decided to sleep in that morning. When we did finally wake up and head downstairs, we were greeted by frantic crying at the door. I quickly opened the front door thinking the creature had gotten hurt but it was perfectly healthy. It ran in and pulled on my pants leg with its teeth as it let out frantic cries of worry.

"Whoa whoa," I said picking it up and trying to calm it down. It made a noise in protest before squirming out of my grasp and bouncing at the door. It looked at Wild David and made a noise.  Wild David's nose twitched and his eyes dilated before looking at me and also making a worried noise. "Do you want me to follow you?" I asked looking at the bigger creature. It stared at me before giving me a slight nod of its head and it and David took off into the woods. I quickly grabbed a pack at my door and slung it over my back as I followed after them. I took out my machete and slashed through overgrow and bushes, careful not to trip on roots as I followed the surprisingly fast creatures. I also had to be careful of slippery mud and the mud that acted like quick sand, kinda. It wasn't as quick but if you get stuck and you don't get help... I shuddered at the thought. We followed the creature to the creek where it made a sharp turn and began running down it. The rain had caused the water level to rise a good level and the current was quicker than normal. You would not want to get caught in that, even as a strong swimmer. We followed it down aways when I heard a voice that sounded in distress. "Nicolas! Nicolas!!" It was male, slightly gravelly, and it somehow knew my name?

The brown creature let out a noise in response and ran faster toward the voice. Wild David and I following close behind. We came to a part in the creek where a young man was standing in the middle of the creek, the only visible feature his head which was barely poking out of the water. He must've been trying to wade across but got stuck in the mud. His hair was a sanely blonde, his eyes a similar blue to Wild David's rim and his nose and cheeks were dotted with freckles. He was flailing his arms, desperately trying to keep his head above the water, however in the mud just himself was no match. I couldn't lie he was dashing.

The male looked up at me, his eyes wide in panic and I was suddenly struck with the realization, oh shit he needs help. I unzipped my pack and pulled out a rope. I tied one end around my waist and threw the other end toward the male. "Grab ahold! I'll pull you out!" I yelled to him. He grabbed his end and wrapped it around his wrists, coughing as a small wave went over his face. I tightened the remaining slack around my arms and I pulled. The male also seemed to be trying to pull himself out. His teeth were gritted and he seemed to be squirming. Wild David and the creature, who I think was Nicolas, also grabbed hold of the rope and pulled as well. Eventually, the mud gave way and we pulled him out of the creek. The male wore a red flannel and jeans that were soaking wet and covered in mud. The male coughed and looked up at me. "Th-thanks,"

"Yeah... no problem..." I replied helping him to his feet. His whole body trembled, he must've been there a long time. "My name is Nick. What's yours?"

"D-David. Hehe you have the same name as my little friend here."

My eyes widened slightly in surprise. Did we actually name our creatures after each other, kinda. That's really weird. "Um you too actually, my lil buddy's name is David."

Wild David perked up and hopped on my shoulder, looking at the smaller male. David actually let out a small laugh. "That's hilarious."

"Let's take you back to my place. You'll catch your death if you have a long journey. Plus your lil buddy has been coming to my house for like the past week."

"Is that where you've been sneaking off too? You little buggar, well at least you made a friend." Nicolas murred in response. Snuggling up to David's neck. I gently picked him up bridal style, he would fall if he tried to walk so I'd carry him back. It wasn't far. He looked up at me in surprise but didn't say anything, and I carried him back to my place.

***

We all eventually made it back, and I sat David down and got him some blankets and a new set of clothes to wear so his could dry off. Whilst he got changed I set some food out for Wild David and Nicolas. They ate together and eventually fell asleep in the sun next to each other. I was working on some tea when David came back down in my clothes which were big on him which was really cute. "So, I'm thinking you should stay here for a day or two so I can make sure you don't get sick. I don't know how long you were stuck in the mud in the creek."

"Heh... thanks..."

I finished making the tea and gave it to him. "You live around here?"

"Eh, you could say that. Nicolas and I are kind of nomadic. Don't really stay in one place. We just kind make shelters out of whatever we can." He took a sip out of his tea. His hair was still damp as I also made him take a warm shower.

"Well, you're welcome to stay here. I have an extra bedroom so there's plenty of space."

"Thank you."

I nodded. After his tea I took David upstairs and put him to bed. He was clearly exhausted. I decided to leave Nicolas and Wild David though, they were at peace. While everyone except me slept, I sat in my rocking chair and pondered. About a lot. David, Wild David and Nicolas, my sexuality. Wait. Yeah. My sexuality. I actually thought David was good looking, and the fact that he had nowhere to go kinda tugged at my heart strings. Although I didn't know anything about him, he might not even be gay! Stop being so stupid Nick, you can't just meet a guy and like him like that. This isn't a fairy tail. But, was it perhaps destiny. I mean our creatures have the same name has each other. Is that just a coincidence? Part of me hoped so. The other part of me wasn't sure.

***

David had stayed over a couple days and I found that the longer he stayed the more in love I fell with him. I'm pretty sure our little friends felt the same way. They snuggled more and groomed each other's fur. It was strange, I didn't think these creatures would be gay. Maybe it was a sign.

Eventually I couldn't take it anymore. I had to tell him. But what if it scared him away? I continued pondering till I realized I poured too much coffee in my cup and made a mess. I exhaled and moved my cup so I could wipe up the spill.

"You okay, Nick?" David asks, he must've snuck up on me.

"Huh? Oh... yeah. Just lost in thought."

"I see that." He walked up behind me and wrapped his arms around my waist as he stood on his tip toes to see my mess. I felt my face heat up extremely. He stepped back and began making himself some breakfast as I finished wiping my mess. "Hey David, do you plan on leaving with Nicolas? Going back to your nomadic ways?"

"Hm... I thought about it... but I don't think I will. If it's alright... I thought about possibly moving in...? It would break Nicolas' heart if I took him away from his new friend."

My heart leapt. I might actually have a chance. "Of course your welcome to stay. I have no issue with it at all."

"Again thank you. You've done so much for us."

"It's no problem. I'm actually liking the company, I lived alone prior to Wild David and it got, well, lonely."

"Yeah, l know the feeling."

~a few months later~

I sat in my chair reading the newspaper of the town nearby. Things appeared to be going well for my brother. Any disputes there were he was able to calm and talk down very easily. That was just the kind of person he was. Maybe I should visit him and Cal sometime. I sighed and set the paper down.

"Nick!! Come quick!!" I heard David yell from inside. I quickly jumped to my feet.

"What is it?!" I called.

"It's little David! Get in here!" My heart raced slightly. Lil David had been acting weird for awhile and I wasn't sure why. I figured it was him just growing up. I hoped I was right and that he wasn't sick or something awful. I quickly ran inside up to my bedroom where I had made him his own little bed. There, David stood over him. "I-I-is he okay?! Is he dying! Do I--"

"What? No. Shush and look."

I blinked in confusion and slowly walked over and looked at the bed. Nicolas was curled up around lil David and David was curled around... Kits?! Eight tiny versions of David and Nicolas. My heart almost stopped.

"B-b-but...!"

"Yeah, I was pretty shocked too. Turns out because these guys are so rare now, they're born with both reproducing features, it just so happens that David was the one who took responsibility in having the kits. It's kinda sweet. This is eight more to their population Nick. Isn't it amazing?"

I nodded. Guess my- no our parenting job just got a whole lot bigger. I gently pulled David close, it was no or never to tell him my feelings. I hadn't all this time, and it was killing me. "I guess this makes us grandparents." He let out a laugh and then thought about it for a moment before looking at me, his beautiful eyes swimming with thoughts and wonder. "I think I've fallen in love with you David. Will you cure me of my loneliness and bachelor life style...?"

His eyes widened slightly but then he smirked in amusement and placed a kiss on my nose. "Yes, yes I will Nick."
