Black Roses
Zelda
Spring was in the air and yet I still felt the bitter cold of winter.
How could my den tell me that I had to marry a scoundrel like Zane Blake?
The trifling, misguided council members who thought it was best for a vampire princess to settle down, I suppose, had run a muck—telling all of those who would listen that I needed a proper king.
I needed a vacation, not a king.
I loved to be around the new birth of the season, but I felt so empty now that my arrangement had happened—and without my consent or my knowledge.
Wanting it all to fade away, I ran as fast as I could from the village, our safe haven, and kept on going until I could go no further.
I was entering their territory and I loathed them more than I did Zane Blake.
But why?
Well, I was supposed to!
My mother and father had warned me never to mingle with the wolves.
They were mutts, rogues, below us..
I didn't truly believe that, but...
I spied him before he saw me and made my way behind a large oak so I wouldn't be seen and hid my scent from the Alpha.
I knew the ways of the wolves, or so I thought. My parents would have killed me if they'd known I had traipsed into their territory—the Fiddler's Den.
Musical wolves...
I used to listen to their music all of the time until my father fetched me one day and pulled me back to our side.
Now?
Now I cared not what they wanted from me.
Princess vampires...
Vampiress...
I thought being the heir to the throne would be nicer than being a servant, but at least they had their own rules—and it wasn't arranged marriages.
I watched the Alpha look around.
He'd heard me!
I couldn't be seen so I crouched even lower and lower until I was belly flat to the ground.
I was all of 18—practically an elder in our world.
My powers were just then coming through and I tried desperately to use them, but I could hear footsteps getting closer, then a low growl and some sniffing.
He'd found me.
