CH/5
He stopped the water and looked at me before huffing and pouring hydrogen peroxide all over my arm. Little white bubbles covered my arm, making it look like I was foaming. The two deep fang marks were making the most bubbles and hurt like crazy. He poked at it and only made things worse.
“Would you stop, that really does hurt.” Pulling my arm, only to have it pulled back.
“I said quiet whining. It needs stitches.” Frowning and sending me a plenty glare.
“Yea, well that’s not happening.” Laughing it off.
“Stubborn woman, your gonna get sick if this isn’t taken care of.” He got a little to close to my face for comfort.
“I don’t get sick from wolf bites.” standing up and grabbing a fresh bandage.
He was about to take it away from me, when he saw all the other bite marks on my arm. I had a normal t-shirt on so it wasn’t really hard to see them all. I had been bitten at least a dozen or so times, before this one.
“How many times have you been bitten by a wolf?” Looking a little worried.
“Aww a few.” Wrapping my arms again.
“Looks like more then a few.” folding his arms.
“I guess.” walking out of the bathroom, he followed closer than usual.
“Don’t you think that’s a bit to many?”
I sat back down at the table and realized my meal had gone cold, my appetite was gone anyways.
“No, not really.” Opening my book again.
He growled and glared at me till I stopped reading.
“What? What’s your problem now?” huffing.
“Why are you doing this?” waving his arms around.
“Doing what? Taking care of wolves?” I had been asked this question a thousand times. Maybe more.
“Yea that, this isn’t a normal life style for a woman.” pounding his hand on the table.
“Normal? Who’s to say what’s normal anymore?” resting my wrapped arm on the table. He didn’t like my answer.
“Do your parents know you do this kind of thing?”
Now there was a new one, never hear those words come out of an Alpha before. I couldn’t help it I let out a good laugh.
“Your kidding right, what am I twelve?” Laughing harder. Snarling at me and pushing the table a little to make me quit.
“Yea my parents know I do this, and they’re fine with it. Would you like to call them and make sure?” grinning wildly at him.
“Oh so your just stupid then! Figures most humans are.” Here we go again, he’s gonna start trying to pick a fight with me.
“You think whatever you want Alpha, but I do this because I love it! Not because it’s fun or because I have to or even for the money…which there isn’t any. Just because I love it.” Taking my book and moving away from the table. I was calling it a night when I heard the light pad of four paws trailing behind me, guessing he’s sleeping in tonight. Instead of making me sleep all twisted, he kept to his side of the bed.
It felt weird since most wolves I take in have a problem, so this is a vacation for them. It’s like having a roommate to me who doesn’t pay anything and eats everything, but with this Alpha everything besides his attitude seemed normal. I’ve had the crazy wolves before, I mean hell one ate through my living room and into the kitchen. Another tore down the ceiling fans cause he said and I quote. “They’re mocking me” Having said that this just didn’t seem right. He did the normal things when he first arrived here, which I had expected. Time will tell I guess, no sense in asking him, cause he won’t tell me till he’s ready.
The following morning I woke with a yawn and a stretch, till my nose caught the smell of bacon and eggs. Changing into normal clothes I headed for my kitchen. Alpha was cooking and seemed to be completely at ease doing so. He saw me and stopped to snarl, oh how perfect! Looking away and leaving him alone. My cell rang as I sat on the sofa, it was Sam.
“Hey Sam.”
“Morning, how’s everything going with…”
“Fine, he shifted.” Sam was good at getting short handed words.
“Really, that was fast.”
“Yeah, I’m thinking there isn’t anything wrong, just bored.” I glanced over at the Alpha who snorted at me.
“Bored, huh didn’t think that was possible, wanna send him my way. I got way to many females to handle and Marlene is having a fit.” He laughed, but was serious.
“I’ll ask, but I doubt it. How’s our boy doing?”
“Ohh he’s doing better, you should come by and see him. Bet he’d perk up even more at the sight of you.” You could feel his smile.
“I just might, don’t have anything else going on today.”
“Alright we’ll be here.”
“Okay bye.”
We hung up. I was startled by the sound of a plate hitting the table.
“Eat.” He barked turning away from my eyes.
“Seriously?” Getting up and looking at the food, if you took a look in the trash can you could see the sad souls of the eggs that didn’t make it. This worried me greatly, I took a bite and could feel my mouth dry out with the amount of salt he added.
I hurried quickly and finished all of it before opening a can of soda and chugging it. If those eggs didn’t stop my heart nothing will. Leaving him inside and going out to my shed to mess around. He finished his and sat down, taking a bite of bacon and then a folk full of eggs only to spit them out.
“Damn…Huh!” Looking at my cleaned plate, then out the kitchen window towards my shed.
The spiders had just about taken over, so it was time to give them their walking papers. The shed was where I kept my riding lawn mower and some gardening tools. A few spare tires for my truck for winter time would have to be pulled out and put back on. I let out a shrill scream as a huge rat ran across my foot and out the door. The screen door to the house burst open and the Alpha came out in a heap of fury.
“What! What is it?” Looking around for something large I guessed.
“Stinken Rat, hell damn thing gave me a heart attack.” Shaking my leg and clearing the spider webs from my ponytail.
“A rat! That’s why I came out here?” He was mad.
“Huh! Oh no one told you to come out here.” Closing the shed door and heading back inside. My answer didn’t please him in the least.
“Stupid human” I ignored him and grabbed my keys, noticing he tossed his food out. He blocked the doorway with his body and wouldn’t let me pass.
“Could you move please?” Waiting for him.
“Where are you going?”
“To see Sam and the wolf male. Why?” There was a silence like no other. I broke it.
“Would you like to come?” His scowling face made it hard to read him.
“Fine.” As if he didn’t have a choice. I waited for him to change, which didn’t take very long. Blue jeans and a black tee with sneakers. The only thing odd about him was the collar, but most people would be to busy looking at his face to even notice it. Sam lived a few miles from me and also down a dead end road, his was paved. He had twice as many acres and a swimming pool, this made his female wolves very happy. Marlene lived a few houses down and was in easy walking distance.
We pulled up and parked behind the bright red “toy” as Sam called it. You could tell just by looking at Sam that he was Native American. Thick black hair braided in the back, heavy eyebrows and tanned skin. He had a beaded necklace and black tattoo over his arms. His ripped sleeveless red plaid shirt and knee holed jeans with moccasins completely suited him.
“Luna.” He shouted from his doorway and came out to greet me.
“Hey Sam.” Smiling as my passenger door closed. Sam took one look at the Alpha and stopped, but a second later he was bear hugging me and lifting me off the ground.
“Sam I can’t breathe.” Gasping.
“Aww you gave me a scare girl, local PD said it was a case of drunken stupidity.” He peered at me.
“Huh go figure.” Smiling.
“You better be careful, you know it’s dangerous.” Looking more worried.
“Its fine Sam, let it go. No one messes with my wolves.”
“Alright, wanna come in for a bit?” Moving to the side.
“Aww no…remember what happened last time?”
The last time I walked into Sam’s house when he had a small pack of female wolves was not pretty. They got so mad that Sam was being nice to me, they tried to rip my arm off. Sam sighed and nodded.
“Oh that reminds me, Marlene said the male has been down and not wanting to eat.”
“I’ll head over now and see him.” Looking over at the Alpha.
“Alpha, you can do as you please. There’s a pool and some female wolves inside, hang out if you like.” Walking away. The door to Sam’s place burst open with three female wolves standing in the door way.
“I knew I smelt Alpha blood.” A tall blonde burst out first. The other two looked like twins with their brown hair and blue eyes. There usually isn’t a homely looking female wolf. Most are model material, and men find them irresistible. They flooded to him, he just stood there. Neither pleased or annoyed, they asked tons of questions and touched him all over. I used this to my advantage and walked away.
A few houses down Marlene was just walking out of a large barn.
“Hey Marlene.” Waving at her. She smiled.
“Luna.”
We talked about the wolf and she took me to him. Laying on what looked like a very comfortable bed he looked pitiful. Slowly moving to his side and sitting down next to him.
“Hey handsome.” Rubbing his head and trying to get a response out of him. His eyes opened and he whined to me.
“When did he stop eating?” Looking at her.
“Yesterday night.”
“Okay, what did you give him?”
“Chicken.”
“Umm, okay can we try steak, but only cook it for a few minutes.” She nodded and left me alone with him.
“There boy, well get you something other then chicken.” Touching his nose, it was cold and wet. I carefully lifted his lip seeing what color his gums were. Pink.
“Well you look okay, you wanna go for a walk?”
He lifted his head and I stood up, he did the same following me outside. We walked through the yard and around to the back, a few cherry trees were set in a row. He was still pretty skinny, but had gain a few pounds and seemed stronger. He had a sweet smell to him, which made it clear what he was. Marlene came out with a steak and handed it to me.
“Thanks, you got a brush on him yet?”
“No, he wouldn’t let me.”
“Could I try?” ripping a piece of steak and letting it dangle to my side.
“Sure.” She left again.
Sniffing the meat he carefully took it from my hand and chewed. I ripped another piece. When she returned the steak was gone.
“Yea he likes those better.”
“Ohh good.” Handing me the brush.
Without so much as a hesitation he let me brush his coat. It was a salt and pepper color, his ears were almost white along with his muzzle. He looked so much better after I removed some of the tangles and his coat could now breathe properly.
“He’s stunning.” Marlene smiled.
“Yeah.” Handing her the brush back.
“Is he an Alpha?”
“No, he’s a little small for that, but still with a few more pounds on him, he’ll be a hell of a match.” Standing up and brushing the loose fur off my pants. Looking him over, I frowned.
“Hey Marlene you got some men’s clothes?”
“Yea why?”
“Can I have a set for him”
“Ah okay.” She looked confused but left and came back with some clothes.
“Thanks I’m gonna take him for a walk.”
