Mikasa's Quest: Part One

A young wolf pup barely and slowly wandered through the tunnel. Her green eyes were barely open to see ahead, which was useless, considering she could still see nothing. The tunnel she walked through was somewhat thin, barely the size to fit an adult wolf, and though the tunnel itself was purely stone, the path through the tunnel was covered in lush dirt, which refreshed the pup's weary paws with every step.

The pup didn't know where she had come from, how she got where she was and why she was there. She didn't know when she'd give up her seemingly useless life to her thirst and hunger. She didn't know what her purpose on the cruel earth would be. She didn't know where she was. She didn't even know who she was herself; she only was familiar with her name.

Mikasa.

Mikasa had deep and dark green eyes, the shade of spruce leaves. Her stone-gray fur was medium-length and shagged up from her troublesome, useless trudging through the tunnel. "I should just give up," she barely muttered under her weakened panting. The tunnel was very hot and tiring. Her mouth was dry as a desert and her stomach was hollow as an abandoned mine that had been in service for decades.

No, A voice said in her throbbing head. You can't give up just yet. Mikasa didn't know where the voice came from. She looked behind her to see if anyone had been following her, but she was alone.

She had always been alone. No parents, no friends, not even enemies. Just loneliness. But Mikasa never felt the loneliness. It always felt like someone was never yet always be her side.

Mikasa asked out loud in a cracked voice, "Why shouldn't I just give up?" You can't give up. Mikasa was now unable to speak, so she just thought, tears in her dry eyes, "Why not?"

The voice seemed to disappear from her head. It stopped hurting for a second. All of a sudden, she felt a surge of energy go through her defeated body. It cooled her down a bit. Her eyes opened quickly to see the light at the end of the long tunnel she had not noticed until now.

Her legs felt stronger now, like they were trying to get her to move faster. Go! They seemed to shout as Mikasa began to speed up her pace. She only felt stronger in the movement, so she broke into a confident run. The light neared, and Mikasa could begin to see other healthy wolves outside, enjoying their seemingly purposeful lives. Trees could be seen, just as well as the sun, high in the sky.

She stumbled out of the tunnel... right when she felt the strength disappear from all of her as her headache returned and her eyes began to close. She fell pathetically to the ground, having fainted.

There you go, child, you will be fine.
