Chapter 22- Faith and Tato
After a long and cold walk back to their den, everyone seemed cheerful and grateful that they could be home again. One by one, they thanked Angel, Arius, and Keighley and walked back to their old rooms. Keighley seemed especially happy now that she had met Jake. They were mates, and it looked as if Keighley forgot about Miles.
Angel, Arius, Keighley, and Jake all walked back to the Alpha den room. Angel and Arius laid down next to each other on the Mattress while Keighley and Angel sat at the foot of the bed.
Angel happily sighed. "I'm glad all of this is over." She said.
"We all are." Arius agreed.
"Excuse me?" A gold fur wolf had just walked in. "Sorry to interrupt you, Alpha's." He said, with a bow.
"Don't worry about the bowing." Arius said.
"Yes sir." He said, rising from his bow. "You need to come see this."
Angel and Arius exchanged looks and got up. They followed the wolf out of the room. Outside the Alpha den room, they quickly realized that their den was trashed. Bones and scraps everywhere. They checked the food supply, barely anything was left. In the medical room, all of the herbs and leaf bandaged had been taken or scattered.
"It's a huge mess." Arius pointed out.
"I guess before we can enjoy being back we need to fix the old place up." Jake said. They all agreed and decided to begin working on the den over the next few weeks.
The next day, they began hunting for food, collecting medicine, herbs, and making bandages. Jake offered to watch all of the young while the parents worked. He ended up with too much work and Keighley had to sign off to help him. Any other wolves worked on attempting to hang up curtains that had fallen. Not many were successful.
They repeated this everyday for about two months, until everything was finished. Angel and Arius were walking back to their new Alpha den room that day when Angel heard a wolf calling her name. She turned and saw Naomi running after her.
"Excuse me." Naomi said.
"Yes?" Angel replied.
"Angel. I'm sorry about the past. During the big fight after you ran off, I saw you were mad and stressed, and I felt bad about the way I acted towards you." Angel was shocked. An apology was usually not expected from Naomi. "I hope we can settle our differences." And with that, Naomi was trotting off into her old room.
"Do you think she meant that?" Angel asked Arius as they entered their den room.
"I don't know." Arius said. Angel laid down on her side on the mattress. She had started to feel dizzy the last couple of days and had to stop working. She suspected it was being pregnant,
"Hey Arius." Angel said, looking at Arius. "What if we have a larger litter?"
"So?" He asked. "Just more pups, that's all."
"No, but what to name them..." Angel thought.
"Well, you have Faith, and those four other names you mentioned a long time ago."
"Tato." Angel said, completely ignoring Arius.
"You mean the story of the great warrior?" Arius asked. "The warrior himself?"
Angel nodded. "But the word, for us wolves, got itself the meaning, 'Brave.' I bet one hundred percent that if it's a boy, he will be brave. Like you." Angel said, looking at Arius and smiling. Keighley and Jake walked in a few moment later.
"Hey Keighley, Miles- I mean... Jake..." Arius stammered. He had the problem of calling Jake Miles, but Keighley and Jake had both gotten used to it by now.
"Hey Angel, Arius- er, I mean Dontas..." Jake joked. Arius did a fake laugh, causing everyone to really laugh.
"You feeling OK?" Keighley asked, looking at Angel's stomach.
"Yeah, just a bit dizzy." Angel replied.
Keighley nodded, and they started carrying on a conversation. Angel had zoned out and was thinking about what had happened. Angel switched jobs and saw one of her fellow wolves die. She met Sierra, the wolf trapped in the dream realm. She learned about the dream realm itself. She found her inner beast, met a spirit. Became pregnant and fought off a pack of Coyotes. So much had happened since the rabbit she failed to catch. She felt herself falling asleep when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach.
"Ow, Arius, don't kick me!" She yelled. She quickly realized Arius was sitting on the floor, not on the mattress.
"Angel, I'm not on the-"
"I can tell now, I'm- Ow!" She felt another pain in her stomach.
"Arius..." Keighley mumbled.
"Oh, my God." Arius said, beginning to shake. "K-Keighley, go get Baylee!"
Keighley nodded and quickly left the room, Jake behind her. Arius laid down next to Angel and soothed her. The pain just continued for Angel, but after a few minutes, Keighley, Jake, and Baylee ran in. Jake walked to the corner, Keighley at Arius's side, and Baylee at her stomach.
"Alright, Angel, take deep breaths." Angel heard Arius say behind her. Baylee sat and waited for the pups.
"C'mon Angel, you need to pitch in." Baylee said. Angel simply whined and tried her best. Even after thirty minutes, the pain still continued for Angel. She heard gasping and looked down. There laid a small, light gray, almost white pup, a little tounge hanging out of tiny, cute snout. She felt more pain and closed her eyes, waiting for it to be over. She eventually felt the pain die down and opened her eyes again, to see another pup, this time a normal gray. They both laid next to each other and made cute noises, and eventually, Baylee rolled the light gray pup over onto its back.
"Boy." She said softly rolling it back over. Baylee walked over to the next one and rolled it over. "Girl." She said, putting the pup on its stomach. "Congratulation, Angel!" Baylee exclaimed, walking out of the room.
Keighley looked at the pups. "I'll leave you two alone. I mean, you four." She said with a smile, exiting with Jake.
"They're so cute." Angel said, watching them crawl towards Angel. "I think Tato and Faith are their names. I mean, if you like it too." Angel said, looking at Arius.
"Sweetie, you went through all of that trouble to have them, you get to name them." Arius said, with a smile. "Plus, I like those two names."
"Ok, then." Angel confirmed, watching the two pups nurse. "Faith and Tato. Our two sweet pups."
