Chapter 20- The Plan
Arius, Angel, and Keighley ate all of the deer they could while Arius went over the plan and backup plans once more. After the doe was reduced to bones, they set out to begin. Keighley ran off to the edge of the woods and jumped into the branch of a small tree, then slowly made her way higher up as she disappeared in the forest. Angel got behind a bush and waited. Arius started walking forward at a quick pace towards the pack.
At the moment, all the guards in the circle were facing forward, so Arius snuck up behind one and bit into his neck, not killing him, but causing him to yelp and make noise. He then moved back a few feet and waited. One of the guards left his position to get the injured one, while Miles called out an order for five guards to get Arius. He then began running off at a strangely slow speed, while the guards shot after him. He waited until they were close to dart left, causing them to fly right by them. Miles sent another guard that went behind him, while the other five spread around in a circle. Angel saw her cue and fell asleep.
Angel woke up in a dark room, most likely a meeting room. There she transported to Keighley's realm and met her there.
"Ok. Time to do it." Angel said. Keighley nodded and Angel fell back asleep.
Angel woke up behind the bush and watched. Arius was watching every guard around him. After a few seconds, two of the guards surrounding Arius and about eight of the guards in the circle started whining and whimpering. The loud noise, Angel thought. But something different happened after that. The guards who had just been targeted were now on the ground screaming. Dontas and Miles looked in surprise at what was happening to their guards. Eventually, the struggling wolves all fainted.
Keighley then jumped out of the tree as Arius fought off two guards. Angel thought she saw Keighley and Miles' eyes meet for half a second, but then Keighley continued on with the plan. She went and quickly swiped a guard, then she gracefully jumped out of the way and waited. Sure enough, a few guards ran after her. Keighley jumped back up in a tree and taunted them, knocking acorns on their head or just swearing at them and calling them rude things. The guards could only just try to get up the tree or bark worthlessly at her. After all the guards fainted, moved, or fighting, there were only four guards around the pack, one of them injured and the other three pointlessly trying to save his life.
Angel saw her cue and ran behind one of the guards barking at Keighley and bit into his stomach. Arius, who had apparently just killed both of the guards he was fighting, came to help. Keighley pounced on the injured wolves head and knocked him to the ground as she leapt off gracefully and watched their backs. The three guards laid dead after a few moments, and the three of them turned to face Dontas and Miles. But before they could do anything, the other guards began waking up and turning to Angel and the others.
"Kill them." Dontas said with an evil grin. The other three wolves that were helping the injured one left him to die and turned to fight Angel. Thirteen guards. The plan A had been working up until now.
"Beta!" Arius yelled. A few of the guards stopped for a second confused, but then returned to advancing towards the group. Arius, followed by Angel and Keighley, barged through two of the guards surrounding them and ran off, circling the pack. They ran to the opposite side, away from Dontas, Miles, and the guards, and waited. Like they had expected, nobody chased them.
"Ready?" Angel whispered.
"Go for it." Arius replied quietly.
Angel watched Keighley fall asleep as the two of them waited for the guards to strike. No one moved, until Angel spotted Miles falling asleep too. Angel took this as her cue and focused on the dream realm.
Angel felt herself in a corner of a black room. She looked and saw Keighley talking to Miles.
"Nice to see you." Keighley said, looking Miles in the eye.
Miles said nothing, but continued looking at Keighley.
"What brings you here?" Keighley said. That was Angels cue to begin. She felt toward slowly and soundlessly, advancing towards Miles.
"I must ask the same to you." Miles mocked. Angel was about twenty feet away.
"Why did you want to kill me, abandon me?" Keighley said, fake tears coming to her eyes. Angel was about fifteen feet away.
"What does it matter to you?" Miles questioned, his voice cracking.
"I loved you!" Keighley screamed. Angel had to admit: Keighley is a good actor. She was about seven feet away.
"I never asked for any of this!" Miles yelled back. Angel stopped three feet away from Miles. What did that mean?
"Don't lie!" Keighley said.
"I'm not, OK? I can't help the fact that I was dragged into this mess."
Angel looked at Keighley, who looked shocked. "Tell me." Keighley said.
"No, OK?" Miles said. "I don't care anymore."
Keighley looked at Miles with sadness. "Fine, then." She said. Angel saw opportunity, but something wasn't right. It didn't feel right to kill Miles. But, she wasn't going to let him go with all he and Dontas had done. Angel jumped and bit into his neck. There was a scream of pain and Miles disappeared.
"Wake up!" Keighley said, disappearing as well.
Angel woke, her snout buried in snow. She stood up and looked at what happened. There were two more dead guards, Arius next to them with a bloody wound on his back. He stood panting, and he nodded towards Miles. He was on the ground, gasping for air. Dontas stood by his side, looking frightened.
Miles stood up weakly, and walked slowly and wobbly towards Keighley. He collapsed at her paws and said something in a mumble.
"Speak up." Keighley said.
Miles looked up at Keighley, tears in his eyes. "I'm sorry."
Keighley's eyes widened. "What?"
"I'm sorry." Miles repeated. "I never meant to cause harm. He scared me. I was helpless."
Keighley looked at Miles, tears in her eyes. Angel sat confused at what was going on. "Who?" Keighley said. "Who scared you?"
Miles looked up at Keighley and smiled weakly. He took another gasp for air and said, "I love you, Keighley." And with that, there was complete silence from Miles as Keighley's soft crying filled the air.
