Chapter 17- The Woods
"M-Miles?" Angel stammered.
"Yes I am M-Miles." Miles teased.
"Why you?" Angel asked
"Why not?"
Angel stepped forward and growled, baring her teeth. "Shut up, you fat fleabag."
"I can explain everything, but if you want me to stop talking, that's fine with me-"
"No!" Keighley had shaken off her muzzle. "Tell me! Tell me now!" She looked heartbroken. Weak, sad. It was horrible to see Keighley looking like this.
"The lady wants to know." Miles said. "She will figure out now."
"I'm apart of an evil organization, I guess is what you so-called hero's call it. I am one of the henchman for our bosses. You were right about Dontas, he is in the group. I am his boss. Anyways, our goal is to strive to find an important object, in fact, three of them."
"Had any luck?" Keighley said sarcastically. Sierra made a muffled laugh under her muzzle. Keighley walked over and bapped it off.
"Well, I'm glad you asked." Miles said in a fake happy voice. "We do know the location of all three of the items. They are three gems. All three have extraordinary power, which can be used for good or bad. We plan to use them to control all of the wolves."
"What are the gems called?" Sierra asked.
"Do I have to explain everything?" Miles sighed. "The first one is the Spirit gem. It lets you see, talk, and even be one of the wolf spirits. The second one is the Nature gem. It lets you change snow, sun, rain, and any weather formation you can think of. The third is the most powerful. It is the Time gem. That one is self explanatory. When the three's power are combined, it can bring power to the beholder. We plan to take over the wolf species with it. We can control who lives or not. We can control everything you fools do."
"If you know where the gems are, why don't you have them?" Angel said.
"They are vastly spread out. One among the dream realm. One among the earth. One..."
Angel waited for the answer, but it never came. Just a wide, evil smile across Miles's face. "Well?" Angel said after a while.
Miles laughed. "Angel, one of your pups contains the Time gem."
Angel looked down. "So that's why you try to kill me, eh?" Angel said, a smile of her own appearing on her face.
"What do you think, you simpleton?" Miles said dryly.
"I think you're gonna have to catch me. Keighley, Sierra, get out now!" Angel called. They both nodded and dissapeared, leaving the ropes and muzzles on the floor. Angel turned to face miles, who sat with a shocked look on his face. "I will kill you." Angel said before forcing herself to wake up.
Angel opened her eyes in a flash and stood up. She was in the same spot she had fallen asleep last night. She looked ast her surroundings. Which way had she come? She looked at the steep hill she had stumbled down, and she decided to head that way. She half jumped, half crawled up the small dirt ledge and looked ahead. The sunshine glowed through the trees, and Angel suspected she was going East. There was no way she could've slept through the entire day. She started that way, confused as to whether this was the right way or not.
She had been walking for about fifteen minutes when she came to a stream calmly flowing through the dirt. Small fish swam around the shallow waters, sliding in and out beneath rocks. Angel found a decent sized one and caught it. She put it on the ground before her, and took a bite out of the fish, ceasing its movement. She finished the fish and took a drink of the water. She swallowed and continued towards the rising sun.
Angel was completely lost after a while. She didn't recognize any of the scents or sights, and she felt like she kept walking in circles. She moaned and set down, frustrated. Angel looked down at the ground in thought. How was she supposed to find the way out and find Arius, Keighley, and... Well, she didn't want to see Miles. But it hit her. She has Arius's scent. Mates are supposed to know their mates scent. She sniffed around for a while until it came to her senses- Arius lost his scent. They had been laying down in the snow, which is water. Water washes away scents. Angel cursed loudly and continued walking.
She had been walking for what seemed like eternity when she heard a rustling in the trees. She whipped around and looked up, but saw nothing. She grunted and turned back to walk. She heard the rustling again and ignored it. "Just a raccoon." Angel said, ignoring the rustle again.
"So I'm a raccoon?" Angel shrieked and jumped, turning around and looking up. A white wolf sat up in the branches, looking down at Angel.
"Keighley!" Angel said. "You scared- I..." Angel looked up at Keighley, who was bloodshot and tired. She jumped out of the tree and landed in front of Angel. Her fur was covered in mud, she looked like she hadn't slept in days, and she was slightly shaking. "Are you OK?" Angel asked out of instinct, suddenly wishing she hadn't.
"What do you think?" Keighley growled. "Come on, we need to get out of here."
Angel only nodded and followed pursuit. They turned and walked North, following the river downstream.
"Keighley, I'm sorry about Miles..." Angel said, breaking the silence.
Keighley merely grunted, causing Angel to fall silent again. They walked a little longer until Angel was tired of them being silent.
"Listen, Keighley." Angel began. "Do you think what Miles said was true? About one of my pups containing the Time gem?" Keighley sighed and ignored her question. "Keighley, can you answer me, please?"
"No." Keighley said.
"Keighley!" Angel yelled. Keighley turned around and glared at Angel. She looked like she had been crying when Angel couldn't see her face. "Listen, I know you're ticked."
"Ticked?" Keighley exclaimed, with a sarcastic laugh. "That doesn't even begin to describe it!"
"Just hear me out!" Yelled Angel. "I know everything for us has been rough. And I'm sorry. OK? But I don't think that is the real Miles. I think something is changing him."
"Like?" Keighley retorted.
"A spirit. Maybe, by some chance, the Spirit gem could affect him." Keighley looked angry. She suddenly looked down and began to cry.
"I don't get it..." She said, sobbing.
"Nor I." Angel said, nudging Keighley with her snout. "But I know that we will be OK together. All three of us."
Keighley looked back up at Angel, her eyes more red than ever. "I think so." She replied, a small smile spreading across her face. "Let's go."
