The four of them continued on towards their pack. It was evening, and the sun was starting to set. Angel and Keighley walked close to their mates to keep warm. The freezing water hadn't helped much warming them up after swimming in the icy cold river. They walked back the way they had come in silence. Keighley, who was apparently dying to know what happened, broke the quiet.
"What all happened, Miles?" She asked. Miles looked up in thought.
"Well, it started late last night. Me and Keighley were sleeping, and a noise woke me up. I quietly got up and saw the entire pack moving with food, herbs, pups, everything towards the den exit. I asked what was going on, but no one answered me. So, I dedcided to go to a guard about it."
"The guard looked at me, and he said, 'Evacuating.' So I tried to come tell you, Keighley, but the guard grabbed me. I struggled, but he didn't want to let go."
"So you didn't forget Keighley," Arius said. "They just kept you from telling her."
Miles nodded. "Apparently, they wanted to leave all four of us. I had thought Keighley would've woken up, too."
"I was in the dream realm." Keighley answered. "I won't wake up naturally when I'm there."
"Ah." Miles said. "So, they took me. As we were leaving, we saw another pack traveling away from us. So one of the guards told me to run to them. So, I asked why, and they replied with they stole a pup. So I sprinted towards them, and they attacked me. Freaking bit me."
"Oh, Miles... That must've been hard." Keighley said, leaning her head against her mate. They walked on on silence some more.
"What job do you have Miles?" Angel asked out of the blue.
"Scout." He replied.
"Scout?" Angel said. "They're usually gone for weeks at a time! I saw you here two days in a row."
"I have to come back every month for two or three days to see my mate. It would be wrong not to." Keighley blushed and looked down, smiling.
"Well, you picked the perfect time to come back." Arius said.
"Agreed." They all walked in silence for a while longer. Later on, the sun had set. Miles suggested they all stop and sleep at the den for the night. They agreed and slipped in the dark shadow of their past home. Angel looked around when they entered. She saw what was once a happy, bustling crowd of happy wolves, now a dark empty remenant of memories. Everything was gone.
They all split up to check the den for anything useful. Angel had found some herbs and a small bundle of leaf bandages. Keighley brought a buck. Miles hauled the mattress from the Alpha den into the main room. Arius came back with a few brown packs. He gave one to each of them.
Angel felt something inside of her pack. She put it down and opened it up. Inside was Kade's red ball. Angel felt a storm of anger followed by a horrible wave of sadness. Why had this even happened to them? She started crying, laying down on the mattress and burying her head in her paws. Arius layed down next to her and whispered comforting words. Keighley sat down and yawned. Miles sat next to her and licked her fur. Angel continued to cry for a while. After a bit, she spoke up.
"Why did this have to h-happen to us?" She asked shakily. She was still softly crying. She could feel the tears run down her face.
"I don't know, my Angel..." Arius said, nuzzling against his mate, who still breathed heavily.
"Maybe they think we're a threat. Being they know you're a roamer and all." Keighley observed.
"Why did I trust that horrible wolf?" Angel said, ignoring the Arius and Keighley. "Dontas had no room to be knowing about what I did... Dang it... Why am I even here..."
Arius sighed. "Don't say that, sweetie. You are everything to me. I don't know what we all could do without you. I would be dead if you never existed."
"Well, its not like I would be alive to care..." Angel mumbled.
"Don't say that." Miles said.
"It's true!" Angel screamed. "If I had never existed we wouldn't be in this place! I don't care if Arius would have been dead! I don't care if I was ever a healer! I wouldn't care! Because everything that has happened is MY FAULT!" Angel took a breath. Arius was looking at her shocked. Keighley looked the same. Miles just glared at her.
"OK." Arius said, getting up. "If you truly feel that way...?" He walked off to the den rooms in silence.
"No- Arius! I was just angry..."
"I'll give you some time to calm down..." He said. Angel felt horrified. Why on earth did she do that? She looked at Keighley. "I- I-"
"Angel... You are important to all of us..."
"I know..." Angel said. She felt tears well up in her eyes again, but she pushed them back.
"Go to him. He needs you, Angel. He loves you." Keighley said. Angel nodded and walked back towards the den rooms.
Angel peered into her past bedroom. She expected Arius to be there, and sure enough, he was. He had his head down, and he faced the opposite direction. Angel slowly walked in and sat down next to him.
"Hi." Arius said nothing. "I'm sorry, y'know..." Arius still remained silent. "Arius... Listen, I made a mistake. I shouldn't have said those things. I got angry, Ok? I never wanted to hurt you..."
There was a grunt from Arius. Angel continued. "I want to tell you the truth. Never would I mean anything I said that could hurt you. I love you, and when you said I was everything to you, the same goes for you. Without you I would've never made it this far. You keep me happy. You comfort me even when you are tired, stressed, and hurt. I don't know how, but even when I am angry and sad, you always manage to cheer me up. Arius you are my everything. I dont know what I'd do without you."
Arius looked up. His eyes looked into Angels. "I love you."
"I love you too." Angel said. They fell asleep together, smiling. Like nothing had went wrong. It was the happiest moment of Angels life, one she would never forget.
