CASSIDY GOT A TEXT MESSAGE FROM THE TEMPLE MAGUS TELLING HER TO GET TO THE TEMPLE, OR ELSE. she sighed and quickly left lilith and headed towards the front door.

when she got outside, only hamish was there so she turned to him, "you have babysitting duty, i have to go to something for the order, or else."

hamish nodded and cassidy was off.

when she made it, she saw randall standing outside the building and went up to him, "hey, what are you doing here?"

he smiled at her, "jack went in to get dusted so i'm
here for when he comes back. what about you?" cassidy nodded, "well, i'm still technically in the order so vera said i had to get down here or else."

randall nodded, "well, have fun! and tell us all about it later." cassidy saluted him, "of course! now i bid you a due."

randall laughed and waved as she walked into the building. she went down the stairs of the temple before spotting everyone changing into their robes.

cassidy looked forward and spotted jack and alyssa going next to the temple magus' rooms door. she quickly went over, "what are you two doing?"

alyssa looked at cassidy as jack continued to walk forward, "cassidy? what are you doing here?" cassidy shrugged and came closer, "last time i checked i was still in the order. what is that damn ringing doing here?"

cassidy looked at the door to see some paper slip through and then slide back into the room. "jack, you can't go... jack!" freaked alyssa and both girls looked at the new mark on jacks hand.

"it's like it stung me." mumbled jack and cassidy quickly put a hand on his back. alyssa looked at him, "you need to get out of here. right now."

the three turned at the sound of gabrielle, "is everything all right, alyssa?" alyssa didn't say anything and gabrielle questioned, "alyssa?"

alyssa looked at jack before grabbing jacks arm and one of cassidys hands, "you're the worst acolyte ever! first, you're late, and then you tell me you're sick? and cassidy, he's your responsibility! how could you be so careless?" alyssa moved close to jack as the three walked past gabrielle, "pretend that you're sick."

"oh, that won't be hard." replied jack as the three quickly left the room and up the stairs. alyssa continued, "seriously, what were you thinking? you could've sneezed on the altar in an incantation! you'd ruin everything!"

once they were in the clear, cassidy smiled at alyssa, "i'm so proud of you right now."

alyssa smiled back before they walked out and she caught sight of randall, "randall! somethings wrong."

jack was bent down as alyssa helped him over to randall and cassidy walked on his other side making sure he didn't fall over.

"did you wipe too much of his memory? does he think he's a baby?"

cassidy scrunched up her nose, "that's not how it works." randall shrugged and went to jack, "hey." jack put his arm on randall's shoulder, "no."

"what happened to you?" questioned randall and jack gasped out, "it's silverback. somethings wrong. he's fighting me."

alyssa looked at randall and cassidy, "you need to get him out of here. hurry!" cassidy quickly looked at alyssa, "wait what spell are you guys doing?"

"the vade maecum infernal." replied alyssa and cassidys eyes went wide in knowledge but before she could say anything randall pulled her away, "we don't have time for witch talk, cass! we have to get him back home."

cassidy nodded and wrapped one of jacks arms around her, "also i'm not a witch." randall looked at her, "sure you're not hermione granger."

jack groaned, "can you two flirt another time?"

"yeah sure."

"we weren't- okay."

THE THREE QUICKLY BURSTED INTO THE HOUSE. lilith and hamish were by the bar when randall grunted, "guys, somethings wrong. somethings wrong with jack."

cassidy and randall continued to try to pull jack towards the beanbag chair as he cried out, "my skin it's on fire."

he laid down on the beanbag chair and randall stated, "guys, guys, look." randall moved jacks arm making jack scream out in pain and randall reply, "sorry."

they all looked at jacks arm to see that it looked like something was trying to get out of him. hamish looked at it shocked, "that's silverback."

"who did this to him? was it that bitch, alyssa? whom i loved, once." everyone gave lilith a look before she looked back at them, "like a sister, you perverts."

hamish looked at jack, "what were they doing at that temple?" jack groaned, "they're preparing for something called the... the vade maecum."

"oh, fuck. i really wish you hadn't returned my memory." mumbled lilith before jack began screaming again as silverback tried to get out of him.

jacks phone dinged and lilith and cassidy quickly ran over. it was from alyssa and lilith quickly typed her responses.

IT WAS THE NEXT MORNING AND LILITH AND CASSIDY WERE WORKING ON A POTION THEY THOUGHT MIGHT HELP JACK. randall walked over to jack before pulling up his sleeve and looking back at the girls, "you've been making that stuff all night, isn't it ready yet?"

"do you want it made fast, or made right?" responded lilith as cassidy read off the instructions in her head. hamish looked at the girls, "you two sure you know what you're doing?"

"you're the one who found my stupid memories, so shut up and let me use them." replied lilith and cassidy looked at hamish with a tired smile, "we know what we're doing."

"this potion will cure him, right?" asked randall and cassidy shook her head no as lilith responded, "no, but it should buy us time to figure out what is happening."

lilith turned to hamish, "pour this into that... and shake it." hamish looked at lilith, "i remember when you'd have broken my arm for even suggesting we do magic."

"i'll break it if you don't shake faster."

cassidy smiled, "awe character development." lilith tried to hide her small smile before randall asked, "so, how could a spell book do this to him?"

lilith sighed, "i already told you. the vade maecum isn't just a spell book. it gives you absolute control over magic. no sacrifices, no potions, no spells. it's like you literally become magic."

"then why doesn't everyone do it?" wondered hamish and cassidy explained, "it's one book, one person. that's the deal. maybe have tried, and died, and so far in history only one has succeeded."

lilith grabbed the cup hamish was shaking, "we should be ready. sit him up."

hamish went over to help randall sit jack up as jack groaned and randall pepped, "all right, jack, up we go. up we go. up we go. here we go, buddy."

jacks head fell and randall cussed, "oh, shit."

cassidy turned around as lilith poured everything together, "be careful." the two girls walked over to the boys and lilith put the drink in jacks mouth while hamish and randall tried to pump jack up about it.

jack swallowed the drink and lilith put the cup back on the bar as the group watched silverback go away a bit.

hamish nodded, "i think it's working." suddenly silverback came back fast and jack groaned while cassidy glared at hamish, "you spoke too soon!"

"guys, i hate to sound so pre-med, but that looks like tissue rejection." informed randall and cassidy began to bite her thumb nail in anxiety.

"then what do we do?" questioned lilith and randall stared down at jack, "we have to remove silverback."

"the only way to get a hide off a knight is by death. that's the rule." reminded hamish and randall looked at him, "and it's not like us to ever break a rule."

lilith looked between the two boys, "it's not our call."

randall waved his arms, annoyed, "okay, fine, let's just ask him then. jack, buddy? you want us to save your life?"

jack groaned out a response and randall pointed at him as he looked at everyone else, "i'm taking that as a yes."

cassidy nodded, "works for me." lilith began searching through jacks pants before pulling out his phone making hamish question, "who are you calling?"

lilith stepped away from the group, "his grandfather. he deserves to know what's happening."

as lilith talked to jacks grandfather cassidy leaned against randall making him wrap an arm around her shoulders and lean towards her as she looked at him, "i'm worried."

randall sighed, "me too, cass. but, we have to be strong for jack." cassidy nodded before grabbing the hand that was around her shoulders and squeezing it for comfort.

randall turned cassidy around and pulled her into him for a hug, that she quickly took as she steadied her breathing.

cassidy laughed a bit, "if jack wasn't laying on that chair he'd roll his eyes and tell us to stop flirting." randall laughed, "yes he would. and then you'd say something about us not dating and i'd say something about how we can continue later."

cassidy smiled, "you would, wouldn't you." randall nodded his head as the two smiled at each other, each trying to calm their own nerves and the others.

"SHOULD WE MOVE HIM TO THE COUCH, OR..." wondered randall with one hand on his hip and the other linked together with cassidys. the two hadn't let the other go since lilith called jacks grandpa and weren't planning to until necessary.

there was a loud knock on the door and the sound of jacks grandfathers voice rang out, "jack! jack!" randall quickly pulled cassidy with him to open the door and once he did, jacks grandpa went right past the two.

"mr. morton, i'm hamish duke." spoke hamish but jacks grandfather walked right past him and went up to jack.

his grandpa began mumbling to jack and jack seemed to respond before his grandfather looked ya the group, "what's wrong?"

"i don't know what you know mr. morton, but you're gonna need to brace yourself." advised hamish before jacks grandpa spat out, "he's a werewolf, and he's been fucking by magic."

randall stared down, "he knows quite a bit." they all nodded to each other as jacks grandpa looked out, "tell me everything."

randall nodded, "jack went to the temple to quit the order." hamish continued, "they were preparing for a spell. somehow it infected him."

lilith added, "when he came back, he was like this. we think his hide is trying to separate from him." hamish sighed, "that's all we know."

jacks grandfather began to cry and pulled jack towards him, "okay. okay. we gotta get him to a hospital."

lilith bent down, "doctors can't help him." jacks grandfather began to cry again as he pulled jack closer into him.

cassidy squeezed randall's hand and randall sighed, "look, jacks grandpa. jacks body is under attack by his hide. he'll never heal as long as it keeps pulling off and reattaching."

"his hide? what?"

lilith continued, "it's what makes us werewolves." randall nodded, "we may be able to save him, if we can remove the hide."

"so- so... if you pull it off, that's good, right? i mean, he won't be a werewolf anymore?" questioned jacks grandpa with hope and everyone looked away making the older man angry, "you don't know."

hamish spoke up, "we do know that doing nothing is killing him."

it went silent for a moment before jacks grandpa mumbled out, "do it."
