Chapter 9
A/N: I was at my dad's house which has no Internet so I couldn't upload lol but now that I'm back at my mom's, here you go!
...................
Julia grabbed the door knob and turned it. The door opened and everything was dark. Feeling lost, she felt around the wall for some kind of light switch she had seen Jace use in their room. When she felt something like a switch, she flipped it up and the lights turned on.
The room was neat, but the bed was a mess! In the far corner Raina was wrapped up in her neon pink blanket. Her dark hair and black makeup running in streams of tears stood out in the bright room.
"Raina?" Julia carefully called out.
Raina's eyes were blank and she just stared off into space. More tears seem to run down her cheeks as Julia walked closer.
"Raina, are you okay?" Julia knelt down in front of her.
Raina's eyes didn't move. It was as if she was in a trance. Then when Julia wiped her tears and running black eyeliner and mascara away, Raina finally looked elsewhere.
"W-who are you?" Raina said confused. Then her face twisted in anguish.
"N-no!!" Raina screamed and buried her face into the blanket marking it black.
"Raina, it's ok, it's just me, Julia..." Julia wrapped her arms around the bundle of neon pink.
"No... Don't..." She said.
"Raina, you are usually so cheerful. I never seen you like this. I know we haven't known each other for long..." Julia began to get teary. "But, I still remember you telling me that we'll be close sisters when I'm able to turn human."
Julia gasped and cried for the first time in her life. It felt as if she had lost a part of her. Raina was the only one, other than Jace, that felt like someone she can truely trust.
"Here I am Raina... I'm here..." Julia muttered in tears and hugged Raina even tighter.
"J-Julia..." Raina seemed to come out of her trance.
Julia let go and Raina lifted her head. She looked terrible with red puffy eyes and black make-up all smeared on her face. The blanket was also smeared with black. When Raina smelled that it was really Julia she tried to see through her tear-filled eyes, she reached out with both her arms and pulled her into a hug.
"Julia... I'm so sorry you had to see me like this!" She started to sob onto Julia's shoulder.
"You finally turned human. Today should be a celebrating day for you and I just ruined it." Raina pulled away and looked at Julia closely.
"No, it's okay. It's also a day for the pack to remember their loved ones." Julia smiled and wiped away Raina's tears that were still running.
"I do this every year since then... I need to stop, but it's like it just happens all over again..." Raina began to shake.
Her pupils began to grow bigger and her fangs grew. Then, her pupils shrunk and her fangs did too. It was as if she was about to reenact something she did before.
"It just won't stop. The memory is still fresh in my mind and I live it over and over again." Raina put her hands over her ears and closed her eyes.
"It's ok Raina it's all in the past..." Julia said.
"You're right, but it hurts the present. It will hurt in the future."
"What..." Julia stopped herself from asking. She didn't want to force Raina to tell.
"Sometimes I still wonder where he is, but I know he's dead. I...I watched him die. The hunter attack started around lunch time on a Sunday." Raina wrapped herself up in her neon pink blanket again.
"My parents died when I was two. Atleast that's what they tell me. My parents were victims of hunters too. I just turned 16 a month before and was hoping that my mate was in the pack, but that wasn't the case. Then came the hunter attack... I was at the pack house because that's where orphans get to stay until they turn eighteen. I was in my room when I heard a noise..." Raina wiped her tears away.
"You don't have to tell me if it's painful..." Julia said, but Raina shook her head.
"I've never told anyone not Jace, nor Rei and Nate. They always just leave me alone on these days because they think I'm just mourning along with everyone else. They think that I lost someone dear to me in the pack, but that's not right. I think it's time for me to let it all out." She took a breath and closed her eyes.
"I looked out the window and four humans were already killing pack members. They were only using silver knifes. No guns with silver bullets. I guess they didn't want to make much noise. Anyways, my room was on the first floor of the pack house and so when the fifth hunter came in, he came into my room right away.
At first my instincts told me that he was my mate. He looked at me like he finally found what he was looking for, a soul mate. I ran to him for a hug, but I saw the silver knife in his left hand. He wouldn't have hurt me. I knew because I saw it in his eyes, but in a split second my motives changed without hesitation. He was a werewolf hunter and he was attacking my pack. Before I knew what I was doing, I was in wolf form and tearing his left arm off. I quickly turned back to my human. I was so scared. What did I do to my mate? I touched his cheeks with my shaking hands to feel the sparks, and that's when I knew that he was a vampire. I thought that werewolves only have werewolf mates, but I learned that sometimes, there are no rules or things don't always go according to the rules. Life is unpredictable."
When a vampire is bitten by a werewolf, they cannot heal like they would from any other bite. The saliva of a werewolf, at least a teaspoon, will make their blood boil if it goes into their wound. They will bleed out and die if they don't get treatment.
"While he bled out, he told me that- that I was even more beautiful in person than in his dreams. His skin started to warm up, it was as though his blood was boiling. Even so, he said that it made him feel more alive than he had for years... He touched me with his right hand and those sparks never ceased, not until his eyes grew lifeless. Julia, the worst part about all this is that I killed him because I was afraid to die! I'm such- such a coward..."
Julia pulled her into her harms and patted her back. She felt so horrible that she made Raina tell her story. But it was true that it would be best for Raina to let it out rather than keep it in.
"You're not a coward. Anyone would have done what you did. It is every living thing's instinct to do whatever to survive. Just let all your tears out today and hope that that tomorrow the pain goes away. If it doesn't then, you cry again. There's no shame or weakness in crying. Jace told me that one time when we heard a little girl crying in the city because her dog got hit by a car."
"Thank you for listening, Julia. Nate found me that day after the other hunters were wiped out. He was an orphan too you know, but he was always good friends with Rei. Nate was the only orphan I got along with. When we heard that Rei's parents were killed, Miranda agreed to let us stay here with them. they said it would be too lonely if it was just the two of them. A year after, she left for Hawaii in hopes of getting over the pain of losing both her mate and baby.
Anyways, they were the ones who made my room this bright. They told me that it would remind me to see the brighter side of life. But when ever I go out to buy clothing, I get dull colors because I couldn't forgive myself for what I did."
"People need to forgive themselves, sometimes it's the only way they can move on..." Julia was just saying what came to mind. She never really knew any kind if sorrow as humans do. She was raised and grew up in a regular wolf pack.
"You're right, it's been three years now, his soul has probably been reborn by now. That is why I wonder where he could be sometimes. I guess it's time to let go, but he will always be with me even though we only knew each other for a moment."
"Come on, let's join the others and wash away your tears."
"Okay."
As they walked to the living room, the voices of Jace, Rei, Nate, and Miranda grew louder. Nate was telling Jace and Miranda about how Rei told him that he was gay way before they knew they were mates. Nate didn't mind though mostly because he wasn't sure how he should feel about it.
They welcomed Raina and she smiled. She went to the bathroom to wash her face and then joined the group again. She felt lucky to have a group of friends, if she didn't, who knows what kind of dumb thing she would have attempted to do three years ago.
