Chapter 4 - Truth ✔️
Hi ._. Thanks for reading, I guess.... back to the story!
Truth looked at her mother impatiently. As a punishment for doing something, well, stupid, as her mother called it, she had to clean the hut for two weeks, doing five chores each day. It was very frustrating for her. MistTalons looked back at her with a glare, but she could tell that it was not what she really felt like. They had just left the hut and were now flying towards the field where most of the Envy meetings were called to see if she can pass The Test. Her mother was taking ages to get there because she kept trying to rearrange the red fur tufts on her neck to make it look the best. They were going to be doing The Test in front of the queen, after all. The privilege came because of being an important individuals dragonet. Her father was already there, sitting in the counselors chair. He gave the slightest wave to them then continued to look ahead to nowhere in particular, with a straight business face on like all of the other counselors. They always looked like this, trying to spread their power and reputation among the dragons of Envy so that not that many rumors would spread. It was too late for her father anyhow, so it didn't really matter.
They began to land and her mother ushered her to where the other dragonets were, all from her classes. There were seven dragonets total, including her, all in a row. She slowly walked up and sat next to the last in line. She remembered all of the dragonets names, thankfully, so she didn't have to ask if they started a conversation with her. The first dragon in the front was Fierce. The name tells you everything about her. The next was Typhoon, then Storm, Grace, (who she was best friends with) Tooth, Vigilant, and Rust.
Right as the Queen started to get up, a dragonet dive bombed into the seat behind Truth. He wore a crescent moon erring and a gold armband. His underbelly and spikes were a dark turquoise color. He was sky blue with a navy dark blue on his fur and wings. He was also annoyingly tall with a short tail and a smug face. His eyes were a deep blue color unlike her families purple eyes, which were a very rare color for WindWings. He sat down and wore a serious expression as if he planned for that to happen all along. She held in a snort as the queen gave him a death glare.
CloudRider then motioned for the Tests to start. The first three dragonets went up to the three different teachers. They then quietly began to talk, starting the Test. The late dragonet behind Truth gave her the slightest frown that they queen makes every once in a while that almost made her laugh out loud. The Queen growled and did a deeper frown that matched perfectly like the one the late dragonet had given her, making her want to laughter even more. By miracle she held in the tears and gave a quiet snort. Rust looked at her and stepped on her talon, making her almost howl with pain. She stepped on his tail in response and he made just the slightest wail, causing the queen to swoop down and stand in front of the three, snarling. She was big before, sure, but now in front of them she was more than two of Truth stacked up, and the queen was still very young. She had the famous pink eyes that meant that she was a girl from the royal family and a long neck along with long legs and a short tail. She was massive. She also had dark blue and red scales and fur, making quite a mixture of colors.
"And just what do you think your doing?! I command you to be silent at once. One more peep out of one of you and with personally tie you up over a fire next to the StoneWings city!" She howled at them, leaving the three of them petrified. The Queen had the strongest WindWing accent (other words known as an Irish accent 😏)she had ever heard for any dragon. CloudRider flew up quietly back to her throne in the shocked silence. This Queen never made death threats to anybody!
Rust began to quietly tap his fingers and the ground that broke the silence and low whispers spread among the dragons and dragonets. He then looked back and gave a death glare to Truth and the other male dragonet.
"If any one of you ever come near me again, I will snap your necks, ya hear me?" He said in a low barely audible whisper. It was funny because of his size to the other taller male dragonet. I soon realized that Grace, Tooth, and Vigilant were being called up, leaving just her, Rust, and the other guy. The next couple minutes felt like a lifetime without the other dragonet dorking around, which she realized that she already missed. She silently growled at herself to stop wishing that a guy you met for two minutes would keep being an idiot and almost get her kicked from the tribe.
She then realized that Rust was gone, leaving her and the other dude. She saw a dragon motioning her towards him and Truth followed, anxiety slowly creeping up on her. This dragon was yellow and white with red eyes. He also was short with half circle glasses and looked deathly old for a dragon. His voice a barely counted as a whisper, and more of a hum.
"So tell. Me.... what is your name-young soul?" He creaked out.
"Truth.. I'm Truth." She replied, looking anxious. He cracked a smile.
"Clearly you are overwhelming yourself. Eh, her.e we-er go........ hmmm.... have yui ever had..er.. fried chicken...-FIRST QUESTION!" He howled, making her flinch. He laughed maniacally and pointed his talon at her. "GOTCHYOU! Right... er-" his face then became dead serious, or as serious as a wrinkled frowning stubborn grandpa-vibes face can get.
"First question. Answer from the heart and how you truly feel....er... who are you, how do you truly describe yourself as a WindWing. The only thing most important in this test and for your tribe is what you truly think. Don't lie."
He stared at her intently. Truth gulped. She realized that she didn't think of StoneWings as the ' bad guys'. They are just like them, covering and fearing WindWings because they fear them. Fear has driven both of the tribes mad, and they just need a dragon to blame. She decided to tell the truth, yes, but not the whole truth, being careful with her words.
"I am careful, persistent, and will punch you if you get on my nerves without warning. I will take risks if necessary to do what I believe is right for me, my family, and our tribe. I follow my heart, for decision making and also in battle. I like the Queen even though... sheisabityoungforthejob - and I hate homework." He slowly grinned at her, going through the rest of the questions with his creaky voice. Once they finally finished up he told her to sit down with the rest of the dragonets who looked very scared but excited. Truth slowly walked up to them and sat down next to the late dragonet who immediately started to tell her about how his aunt smells like a llama, and that she spit everywhere when she talked too. She then told him about a scroll she had read about how some dragons believe that small hairless things called Small Claws roamed the continent once. She then told him about the legend of the one who had a red hood and walked up to a wolf, who was plotting to eat her and her grandma. The most random out of this world story he had ever heard.
A loud tapping sound came from behind them and they turned to see the Queen sitting there. Truth flinched while the other dragonet got onto the floor and did the deepest bow she had ever seen.
"Your.....humble majesty...." he said with a droned voice. CloudRider looked as if she were holding back a Laugh, then went over and slapped him with her tail. He yelped and got up, giving her a small salute instead. The Queen and Truth grinned, but soon the fun ended as the other dragonets turned to face her, making her put back on her serious face.
"Dragonets, today will be a day that you will never forget. This is the day that you shall become dragons. If you pass this test, you shall earn the name dragon and be given your life duty, where you shall finally help your tribe defeat these StoneWing bastards and end this war once and for all! Because I feel it, like all of the other Queens of the past did. I feel the end of the seemingly, Endless War. I see it coming, just over the hill, like the sun shining a new light. No other Queen has been here to witness this, but this generation is the generation where one of you are going to stop this war, the spirits tell me.... they are here, right now, watching us."
A loud snort came from Truth's left. It belonged to Rust, of course. "As if. I mean, if they were really there, wouldn't they just show themselves? Like, how are all you idiots believing this?! This is quite possibly the stupidest, most idiotic thing I've ever seen you all..." He shut up as CloudRider stared at him. Her face clearly said one more word, mister, and I will murder you in front of everybody.
"This is not a joke. You are foolish to think that of the spirits. They will choose three to end this war. Two from the WindWings, and the other from a place unknown. Now, let us get back to the naming. Find SwiftRunner to get your ranks and living spaces, if necessary.
"Tooth! You are brave and snappy, sharp and ready for war, and an end to one. You have completed The Test, and your new name with be ToothBlade.
"Storm. You failed The Test. You lied and did not show your true feelings towards where we live. You will stay Storm for another year, and you shall still be called a dragonet. You do not get the award this year.
"Vigilant. You are Truthful, strong, and prepared. Also a bit of a bookworm. You are always awake and prepared for what is yet to come, also having the sharpest eyes some of us have seen. You passed, and you shall now be called Vigilant.... Breeze! VigilantBreeze.
"Grace. You are the purest and prideful soul in this group. You can keep yourself collected even in the hardest of times. You are a leader. You have passed, and your name will be GracePromise. I see it, they feel it. And so do you. You see the graceful and happy future that is just around the corner instead of seeing what is here now.
Typhoon, Fierce. Against all odds do you guys race into battle. I've seen Typhoon with his trident and Fierce with her throwing knives and archery to know that we need you two in this war. I've also seen Fierce's confidence and no hesitation killing for the sake of her tribe and loved ones. I've seen Typhoon with his fierce friendship with you and his compassion and bravery for what happened to his family, I've seen that he will fight to keep the rest of his family alive as well, including Fierce. We need your duo on the battlefield, fighting for each other. Duos like that will crush our enemies. You both have passed.
Fierce, your name is now FierceSpirit.
Typhoon. You will now be called TyphoonRage. Named after FierceSpirit, indicating how your friendship is unbreaking and angry.
"Rust. You are very, ah, ambitious. You also have great courage and wit. But you are disrespectful to your Queen and to our spirits, no less. You spoke enough from the heart to just nearly pass. There will be major consequences, however, for your actions and disrespectfulness.
Your new name is RustHeart, and you will be cleaning the palace for your job until you show respect for your ancestors and your Queen. You will keep your new name until then, and will still be given the Dragonet title instead of Dragon for your foolish behavior. You will be below the dragonet rank until you have learned you lesson, meaning that your younger sisters and anybody else can boss you around and make you do stuff. Do what is right next time.
"Truth, you have a very kind and adventurous personality. You have an outgoing mind that prefers to stay inside, not talking aloud. You are still trying to find the true meaning behind many things, curiousity that is overwhelming. You have a big heart for others around you, and are very snappy when need be.
Your new name is TruthSeeker. You have passed undoubtedly.
And finally Wave. My bro. You joke and stand up for your friends. You are always very late to class and piss off your sister.
You passed and your name will be WaveDrift, congratulations.
And that is all. Enjoy. Or don't."
I'm going to stop this chapter here. It is, ah, a bit longer than intended. It will continue in the next chapter. See ya!
