Hiccup Haddock x Male Reader
Storyline: After a long day of attempting to track Dragur, Hiccup goes home exhausted. His best friend is there to cheer him up..and maybe ease his tension.
(after rereading this I realizes the name is spelled DRAGO. just dont mind me forgetting how to spell smh)

- Readers POV -

I watched as Hiccup sat beside me, Toothless' head in his lap as he scratched away at the dragons sensitive chin, the Dragon of which was purring constantly throughout the session. He seemed tired.. they both did. And while nobody spoke a word the silence was incredibly loud.

" How did... it g- "

" TERRIBLE! "

He threw his arms up as if in defeat and flopped backwards against my side, Toothless opening one of his eyes to signal his discontent with the lack of affection he was no longer receiving. Hiccup sighed, relaxing into me and petting the dragons head again. I could feel his matted hair against my nose.. itchy but fragrant. His round eyes squinting. I could tell that brute was all he was thinking about. His body was so tense that the littlest snap of the fire startled him a bit.

" It seems like you need to relax.. how about a picnic? "

I questioned him, giving him a closed eyed smile of reassurance. I could sense his hesitation.

" A picnic?... Y/N Its late and I don't have the energy and- woAh!- "

He yelped as I suddenly stood, his lack of well...me...causing him to fall off the chair. He groaned and rubbed his head; still collecting himself after the sudden fall.

" Come on Hiccup... you need this. And you know that you do.. "

Hiccup glanced up at me from the floor, lips curled in a pout. He hated when I was right. But nevertheless, he sighed and stood up, giving me a feeble nod of agreement.

" Great! I'll grab some bread from the pantry and you can pop down by the dock with Tooth- "

As I spoke a particularly loud snore was emitted as if on cue. Toothless had made himself comfortable onto the now smothered charcoal that fueled the fire, and was snoring away.

" --less... nevermind then. Berries and bread it is. And grab a bottle of mead! "

I piled a few stacks of bread in my hands, and held a basket close to chest for berry picking on the way. Hiccup just stared with his signature are you serious face before sighing and following after me, as I was already out the door. I had no time for arguing when there was picnics to be had and relaxation to be done!

" Come on Y/N... I don't want to walk all the way to the usual spot.. "

Hiccup whined, following after me as I bounded up the grassy hill. It was a semi chilly night, one you'd expect from early autumn. The moon was full and silhouetted the land in an angelic lullaby from Valhalla. The stars were shining so bright I figured the gods were extra excited. Just as I. The view of the reflection of the land on the water made the trip worth it every time. Semi worth it... I turned back to look at Hiccup just as he collapsed on the blanket that had been set out. I snickered and sat beside him.

" Sometimes I think I should just push you off that cliff instead of sit here with you.. "

I heard him groan as he sat up, leaning on one of his palms.

" But then who would drag you to bed after you guzzle down one pint of mead and somehow get drunk!- "

We shared a laugh for a moment, recalling the many times just how much of a lightweight he was was made clear. After that laughter faded it was just sort a comfortable silence. I glanced over at him to find his gaze already dead set on me. We both reeled back in shock before chuckling awkwardly. I felt the grass between my fingerblades and fidgeted with it. I bit my lip harshly and chewed.

Why am I so nervous.. It's only Hiccup afterall..

I glanced back once more, and this time, thankfully, his eyes were ensnared by the hypnotizing view of the moon reflected on the waters surface. As he watched... I just.. examined him. It was a face is seen a million times over ever since we were wee babes. But it seemed so different now. He had grown up so much. His once so squishy and round looking face has grown more rugged over the years... faint scars littered that stoic visage of passion and drive. His brilliant green eyes, sporting heavy eye bags, were so entraping.

" Y/N?... "

I snapped away from my thoughts, blinking and catching a breath I didn't know I was holding. His nose was almost touching mine. His body was turned ever so slightly towards mine. When did we get so close?

" Welcome back soldier... you looked so zoned out I was scared you were gonna suck my soul from my body. "

He chuckled, leaning away. His smile was back now.. that gap toothed smile...

" Yea sorry. Got that classy dead eyed Berk stare. Runs in... The island yknow? "

He rolled his eyes playfully at me as I giggled at my own joke, turning my head away from him and towards the ocean.

" Remember how we met? "

" How could I forget.. you only ask me the question every time we come here. "

Hiccup remarked back sarcastically, sitting up and readjusting to a criss crossed position.

" Jussstt making sure you don't forget how we came to be best friends! "

I nudged him with my elbow and he shoved my shoulder. Had his hands always been so rough and weathered? They're as textured as dry leather and as gentle as the breeze in spring.

" So.. Had a nice talk with my dad today. "

He spoke in a mumble, the classic Hiccup sarcasm still, in his voice. I smirked at him.

" Oh yeah?... How did that go for you? "

" Get this.. He said 'Son, as heir to the title of chief it's your job to ensure that this villages legacy continues. You should produce and their son'- "

My eyes widened. I knew Hiccup would be married one day, and have a family and our adventures would end but.. so soon? Why was I so upset? I should be happy! He'll be a father soon He continued on with his rant for a few minutes, but to me it sounded like he was underwater. All I could focus on were my own thoughts. An heir...

" Y/N?.. Hey are you feeling okay? That's the second time you've looked so dazed. "

" Oh yeah! Had some yaks milk today so maybe that's why I'm so uh.. yknow. "

Hiccup hummed, not seeming to buy it but shrugged.

" He wants me to marry Astrid. She's strong and beautiful afterall..."

I shrugged, to which he tilted his head at.

" What do you want? Do you want her? "

I asked as sincerely I could without letting unknown emotions crack my voice. He sighed, staring off into space for a moment before letting out yet another sigh; this one more aggressive as he flopped into my lap. We typically sat like this, but it made my heart race anyways.

" I don't know honestly. I never really thought about getting married. I always thought I'd just keep adventuring with you and Toothless. If I get married though... that'll be over.."

He muttered the last bit, brows furrowed as he nuzzled I to my leg in search of comfort. I patted his head.

" Suppose so. But we both knew this day would come Cupcup. "

A grunt came in response to the nickname he dreaded. His eyes scanned up to mine. There was a glint of hesitation.

" I hoped it wouldn't. I never want to be apart from you. "

His upperhalf still in my lap, he lifted himself up, forehead slumped upon my chest.

" Hiccup?...- "

HICCUPS POV

I slumped my weight against him- arms coiling around his waist in a tight hug as he flopped backwards from the new weight. Y/N grunted as we made impact with the grassy ground, but dared not make another sound. He just allowed me to cling to him. His head stroking my hair.

" Hiccup... We have to grow up. Set our priorities straight. Dragur is still out there and we need to play the defense. Marriage can wait.. so can our adventures. Even if they're ending.. "

I flinched when he blatantly said our time was ending. I wasn't ready. My hands bunched up and gripped at his tunic.

" Y/N... "

He slowly released me as I sat up, essentially holding myself above him as we were both laid out upon the grass. The cold dew was just enough to keep me from feeling tired at all. Though physically I was exhausted. Those curious E/C eyes stares back at me, confused but happy. There was longing there. A strange sadness if you would

" You're my priority. I don't want to marry Astrid or hunt down Dragur. I just want us to be together. I'd even give up Toothless if we could stay like this. "

Those hypnotizing eyes of his widened, in realization and shock. I scrunched up my expression from both the thing to the cold and trying to hold back tears. Y/N's face held an array of emotions for me to decipher. Illuminated by moonlight I could see his worry and compassion...his adoration and sorrow. But most of all.. I could see his smile. A soft exasperated smile. And without a word I felt his arms rope around my torso, pulling me down and flush against his warm body. Wether from the escape of the cold morning air or his embrace.. i melted.

" Oh Hiccup.. you had worried over this?... I thought Dragur had like done something to you. "

He snuggled into my hair, petting it gently. I could hear how fast his heart was beating. Crickets and the melody of nocturnal drsbosm bidding each other good night made up for lack of words. There was noise all around, frm the chirping of awakening terrible terrors to the waves crashing against the beach below, there was no silence to be heard, and yet all felt still.

" Lets go inside.. As much as I'd like to continue this it's getting chilly. "

I spoke finally, lifting myself off of him and allowing him to sit up and stretch. He hastily agreed and began to pack without another word. The walk back to my home was completely barren in dialogue. Neither of us spoke. Just walked a few yards apart. I assume we were both processing in our own way. When we got inside relief hit me... As did a Dragon with the soul of a cat. Toothless clambered onto of me chirping with energy.

" N-Not now bud. We can play later. "

When I managed to get him off, Y/N was already making his way towards my room, rustling his hair slightly. It wasn't uncommon for him to sleepover, and we usually just slept in the same bed. It was pretty much protocol. But it felt....different.

" Y/N?.. "

I entered the room slowly, finding him taking off hid boots by the fire. Probably just warming up.

" Hiccup.. "

He stood to attention as I approached. I wanted to speak so badly but no words could explain my feelings.

Growing up I admired Y/N.. He was ruthless in combat and kinder to everybody than needs be. Sure he was scatter brained and kind of unaware of his surroundings most the time.. He was brilliant nonetheless. We grew from babies to who we are now together. He'd get me out of trouble... or get me in it. We defeated the mother Dragon together. We found Toothless together.. And here we are now. Together still. I couldn't imagine not being by his side and hearing that ridiculous nickname every morning.

" Y/N I- "

" Hiccup I- "

We both froze before chuckling softly. I waited for him to carry on first, but it seemed he was waiting for the same. He stepped a bit closer.. scarred hands hesitant to touch me in any way. But he landed a gentle caress on my cheek. His uncertainess was growing as he leaned forward slightly. I waited for him to finally just do it but.. nothing happened. I peaked open an eye to see his conflicted expression. Okay.. I'll do it myself. I pushed a hand behind his head, tangling my fingers into his hair and closing that oh so painful gap. He let out a startled yip shot first but eases into it, placing his hands on my shoulders and leaning in further. He deepened the kiss, hands sliding down from shoulders and over my chest, gliding gracefully down to my hips where he kept a firm hold. I leaned back, dragging him with me; pressing my back to the wall. A shiver traveled through my body. Exhilarated by a new sense.

" Hiccup?.. "

" Yeah?... "

" Lets do this instead of picnics from now on. "

" ......yeah. "
