Chapter 13: Progress All Around

Blake's house is huge.

It's not nearly the same size as Michael's, but it's gigantic, nonetheless.

I step up to the door and raise a fist to knock, but it's yanked open before I can connect with it.

"Hey, guys," Blake greets, leaning against the doorframe.

I grin back at him. "Hey," I greet as Michael comes up behind me.

"Follow me," he tells us, leading us into the house and up a twirling spiral staircase in the corner of the main entrance. It's like it's in a little tower, the staircase, reminding me of those ancient castles my mother told me about.

We exit to the second floor, walking down the long hallway. Doors line one side and the banister lines the other, looking out onto the main entrance.

Michael whistles. "Nice place, man," he comments, craning his neck to look around.

"Thanks," Blake says kindly before opening one of the doors. Inside is a large bedroom with red walls and plush black carpeting. A California King Bed is against the wall to the left and two doors, which I assume to be the bathroom and closet, are on the right. Beanbag chairs, that hold the rest of our friends, dot the floor.

"Heylo," Austin greets, showing off his dimples as his head hangs upside down.

Alex nods politely at us whilst Damien tries to chat up Blake. He succeeds and makes the redhead giggle with some joke or another. The dark eyed boy grins in victory. I feel like I'm watching animal planet, and it's the mating ritual between two mammals.

"They need to sleep together already," Michael murmurs into my ear, "their sexual tension is overwhelming." I laugh at that and gently elbow him, making him grin playfully.

"Alright," Blake interrupts, clapping his hands together. "Let's get started."

He stands in the middle of the room as we step out of his way. Dimming the lights, he pulls up some holograms and summons a keyboard. He begins typing away, making codes of data slide across the screens, confusing us all except for him. We all watch in awe as he spins around, going from screen to screen, typing something before spinning away again. His eyes move rapidly, like someone who's reading, but they move so much faster. How he can comprehend everything so quickly baffles me.

"Wow," Damien mutters under his breath, his eyebrows raised, obviously impressed.

The blue lights paint the usual redness of the room purple, casting bright blue rays and shadows across Blake's features.

"I'm in," he says after a long while of typing and scanning. "I've just got to download their alien-related files for reviewing." He types a few more buttons and then stands back in relief, letting his shoulders sag.

A downloading bar appears and the line slowly begins to inch forward. Blake minimizes the screen and turns to us as the lights return to their normal setting. "Now we wait."

"That was, surprisingly, pretty anticlimactic," Austin comments, laying down on the large bed, lazily staring up at the ceiling.

Alex tries to subtly lay next to him, but I'm pretty sure he's too obvious about it.

Blake shrugs and plops down in a beanbag. "What do you guys wanna do?" He asks, cleaning his glasses.

I sit down on the bed, and Michael does the same. "What is there to do?" I ask, tiredly leaning against Michael.

"I kinda wanna take a nap," Damien admits, sitting in a beanbag next to Blake.

I nod in agreement and let loose a rather well timed yawn. "Yeah."

Michael lays back on the side of the bed that's unoccupied and drags me down with him. Thank God, the bed is humongous.

"Aw, dude, that's my bed," Blake whines. I guess we aren't the only tired ones.

"Sleep down here with me," Damien suggests, stretching out on the floor.

"Fine." Blake huffs, pretending to be mad, but he rather eagerly moves to the floor with Damien.

How weird are we? What teenagers take naps in the middle of the day while they're hanging out with friends?

I curl up against Michael's chest as his arms wrap around me comfortingly. My eyes slowly flutter shut and I fall asleep.

*TIME SKIP TO BE WOKEN UP BECAUSE I DON'T WANNA TYPE SHITE FOR THE DREAM*

"Hey," someone murmurs softly, waking me up.

My eyes flutter open and connect with an entrancing pair of chocolate eyes. I feel a tired smile grace my lips as I slowly take in his appearance. He has messy hair and is no longer wearing his jacket, making him look adorable.

"Hey," I whisper huskily, having just woken up.

He smiles down at me. "How'd ya sleep?"

"Good." I yawn widely. "I had a dream," I tell him sleepily.

"Really? What about?" Michael lays next to me on his side and looks down at me with a small smile.

With half lidded eyes, I trail my fingertips across his cheek and smile at the memory. "I was with my family." I blink slowly, fighting to keep my eyes open. "It was before they died." I yawn again and watch in dismay as his smile falls completely.

"Conrad..." he mutters quietly, sounding as if he were on the brink of tears.

I look up at him in confusion. "Why are you so sad?" I ask, accidentally slurring my words together.

I yawn again and curl up to him, nuzzling into his firm chest. "Never be sad," I order, my breath ghosting against his chest.

"Okay," I hear him answer softly. Slowly, he moves away from me, only to pick me up bridal style.

"Where are we going?" I ask as I start to really wake up and notice how dark it's gotten.

"Home, silly," he replies as I wrap my arms around his neck.

I look at him for a moment as we travel down the swirling staircase and smile.

"What?" He asks with a smile, catching my gaze.

"Nothing," I reply, grinning at him playfully.

You just look insanely beautiful right now.

"Uh huh," he retorts sarcastically, sticking his tongue out at me.

I return the gesture with a laugh as we exit the house, having said our goodbyes to the rest of the gang, who were watching some movie in the living room.

"Have I ever told you that you have really pretty eyes?" I mutter, still half asleep and not fully functioning.

He laughs deeply, gently setting me in the car before getting in himself. "You're eyes are prettier," he says softly, barely audible over the hum of the engine.

I laugh stupidly and lean forward on the arm rest between us. "You're prettier," I retort, giggling dumbly as I fight to stay awake.

He laughs and shakes his head. "It's almost like you're drunk."

"I'm drunk on life," I tell him sagely, pointing at him like a lecturer. He laughs heartily at that and throws his head back in amusement. "I should buy a donkey," I state seriously, gazing out the window. I could use one. Traveling around would be so much easier. It could carry my bags for school for me. "They like carrots, right?" He laughs uncontrollably, making me grin. "What?" I ask in confusion, letting loose another yawn.

"Do you always act like this when you're tired?"

I shrug. "I dunno." I look at his amused face, his kissable lips stretched into a grin, revealing perfect teeth. I hum quietly as I stare at him.

"What?" He asks with another laugh, raising his brows.

"I should kiss you," I tell him as the realization dawns on me. "I should."

His grin falters a little as he laughs nervously. "W-What?"

"I should kiss you," I repeat. Did he not hear me? I yawn again and blink slowly. "I want to."

"You do?" He sounds surprised. He turns towards me and leans against the armrest as well, propping his chin up on his palm.

He's so tall that the farthest I can reach is pressing my forehead on his nose, but I lean against him anyway. "Since I met you," I confirm, rubbing my cheek against his warm skin tiredly.

He stays silent.

I look up to him with half lidded eyes, curious about his refusal to speak. He's looking down at me with an unreadable expression. Throwing caution to the wind, I decide to go for it.

I gently grab his face between my hands, making his eyes widen. I pull him closer and close my eyes, softly pressing our lips together. His lips are soft and warm as I run my fingers through his hair, tangling them in his gold locks. I feel him tense, so I run my hands down to his shoulders, gently rubbing them as I move my lips against his. He's barely responding and the need to breathe becomes overwhelming, so I pull away, taking in quiet gulps of air.

Opening my eyes, I look up at him and grin. His eyes are wide, his hair is a mess, his cheeks are a fiery red color, and his mouth is open in surprise.

"Yay," I murmur, falling against his shoulder as my hold on consciousness weakens. I trail a finger along his lips gently and look up from his shoulder. "You should really kiss back. It'd make it better," I lecture before my eyes slip shut.

And I fall asleep.
