"So... How are we gonna do this? Do we just drive out and go from there? Or are we just gonna wing it? Shouldn't we have some kind of plan?" Bryce sits next to Ryan on his bed, the box from Luke's closet in his hands. When Ryan doesn't answer his questions, Bryce nudges him to get his attention. "Are you even listening to me?"
"Yeah," Ryan mumbles. "I'm just... I'm just trying to think of an answer, sorry."
He falls silent, staring down at his phone. He had typed the address in, and was now staring at a map. It wouldn't be that long of a drive, only an hour away. That was pretty short considering all the other places Luke had gone to, apparently.
And since Ryan had school, the drive couldn't take all day. But since Bryce's mother was a bit protective, or at the very least didn't like Ryan, they would probably have to leave at night, or when she wasn't around.
"Man, this is hard. Can't we just drive out right now and see what happens?" Ryan looks over at Bryce, who shrugs and continues digging through the box.
"I guess we can, I mean. We should probably take some stuff, though, in case anything goes wrong." Bryce mumbles. He pulls out a few papers, handing them to Ryan.
"This is the one with the address, so we don't forget, and this is a torn up drawing of a really cool dragon. Bryce, we don't need these." Ryan puts the papers back into the box, ignoring Bryce's pout the best he could.
Bryce huffs, then looks over at Ryan's phone. "How long of a drive is it?"
Ryan looks down at his phone, and frowns. "An hour or so. It's just some old apartment, I mean. I doubt Luke is even there anymore."
They both looked at each other, then nodded. They had a place to go, and they didn't have much time, sadly.
.
Ryan and Bryce were in the car now, listening to the radio as they drove. It had been silent for a while, the two preferring the music over actually talking. Though, honestly, Ryan just didn't know what to say.
Every now and again, he would find himself looking over at Bryce, who was just nervously playing with the hem of his sweater. Was he really that worried about Jon and Luke? It was such a drastic change from his happy disposition, and Ryan wasn't sure whether he should bring it up or not.
Instead he turns into a parking lot, checking his phone for the address. "We're here," he announces, looking around at the place they were at.
Bryce looks up, seeming startled. "We- we are?"
Ryan nods, and turns off the car. "It said apartment 264, right? So it should be right over here. Second floor, though," Ryan says thoughtfully. He gets out of the car, shivering and pulling up his hood as cold air rushes around him.
Bryce is right behind him, following him up some stairs to where the apartment should be. The two looks across all the doors, scanning the numbers as they both walk along. There's not much to say, though, so they're both dead silent.
The silence continues, even as they both come up to the door. To their surprise, it's unlocked. They push the door open, quickly shutting it behind them. "I guess nobody's home," Ryan notes.
"Where's the switch? I can't find it and it's dark," Bryce whines. He's not lying when he says it's dark- the living room only had one window, and it wasn't much help at all.
Ryan decides that any light is better than none, though, and decides to pull the curtains out of the way. It revealed that the room was an absolute mess, though, and that was good enough for now. At least neither of them would worry about tripping over anything now. Bryce gives a small smile as thanks, making Ryan smile back. Looking around the living room, he then sighs. "Still can't find the stupid light switch."
Bryce responds by flicking on the kitchen light. "This is good enough, I guess. Why is it that we can't- oh." Bryce cuts himself off as he notices a small hole in the wall, where a light switch easily could've been.
"That's weird. What the fuck happened to the switch?" Ryan finds himself going over to it, examining it the best he could. The hole in the wall was circular, almost, like something slammed into it.
But then something about the hole catches his eye, and he feels a bit uneasy at what he sees.
Blood. There's very clearly dried blood on the wall, and inside the hole. It's barely noticeable with the poor lighting on this side of the room, but it's there.
He was about to call out to Bryce, but instead Bryce is the one calling for him. Bryce sounds scared, something that concerned Ryan. Ignoring the uneasiness within him, he then jogs over to a bedroom Bryce had wandered into.
He immediately sees what threw Bryce into a panic. Thrown across the bed is Jonathan's favorite blue hoodie, covered in splotches of blood.
