Lunar dimness - part 1
Supergirl POV
"Kara," called Lena's tender voice. "Kara, babe."
Supergirl looked around. Once again in her apartment, with that light of late afternoon or early morning. The curtains swayed in the simple damp breeze of temperature change. Her hands clenched tightly on the seat. And Luthor digging through the freezer behind the counter. In her coat, with that embroidered suit underneath, and heels in the same color.
God, she was wore that darkest red lipstick!
"Daydreaming again? Here, put it on your neck." She handed over a rubberized ice pack with green polka dots.
"For what? I don't get hurt easily." Replied, not sure what situation she was.
"I know, but put this behind your neck, and let me see the cut."
What cut?
Her back burned, and suddenly she was curled up in Lena's arms in front of the seat.
"I'm not feeling okay," moaned the blonde, hiding her eyes on the brunette's shoulders. A slight feeling of weakness overtaking her body.
"I know. I'm sorry, I should have told you about Doloris. Not that it matter, you come and go as you please, always have done and always will." Luthor tugged at the back of the Kryptonian's blue sweater, leaving her with only the pale blue bra. "Keep the ice on the back of your head." Lena moved out and examined her back.
"Warn me of an alien carnivorous plant at the entrance to my girlfriend's lab?" She said, but not knowing where such information came from. In a flash, she remembered that she'd bought a pink box of donuts with colorful candies, and she'd surprise her busy girlfriend, who hadn't left that underground dungeon lab in a week.
Wait a second.
The jet?
The storm, the nightmare.
It clutched her chest.
"Lena," she called fearful, because of all that, even Lena.
Her back burned, and Lena quickly apologized for the pinched climb, of the cotton soaked in serum.
"Just a little longer. Was a slight cut. You won't need stitches." It relieved the brunette. And her fingers crept up from her waist, to the middle of the Kryptonian's back. Spreading the icy drops from the bag. Cold as ice, burning like fire in her fingertips. When she felt Lena press her body from behind. The softness of her breasts, her arms encircling, lips boiling on her neck, against the chill at the back of her neck.
"Thanks for the surprise today. I loved it, babe," whispered Lena, hugging her from behind. Resting her forehead on her shoulders, tired from a week of uninterrupted work.
Supergirl's only impulse was to take her in her arms and deposit her on the bed, to sleep next to her, or almost. But she didn't want to let go of the tender embrace, allowing herself to close her eyes, and lean her head back on Lena's shoulders, fitting into the contact. Feeling the heat pass between them, not only; the feeling that surrounded them without many words, just them.
"I wanted to be stronger. I can't stand to see you hurt." muttered into her shoulders. "And I know there's no way like that, but promise me you'll take care when I'm not around? You going to eat the salad and vegetables with French fries, and you'll always take care of yourself. Even when you look at Earth from far away. Always." Lena tightened the hug around her waist.
"If you were stronger, you would be a Kryptonian, and I would be your Kryptonite, as well you're mine." Said the blonde, when Luthor's arms loosened, and turned on the seat, facing her. "Lena," she called out through the brunette's teary gaze. "And I promise to eat lots of vegetables fried in the tempura."
"Fried doesn't count, you idiot." Lena ended up laughing. Wrapping her arms around her neck.
Supergirl dropped the ice pack on the bench, but when she went to hug back, her neck throbbed, her arms dangling down, not responding. Her back thundered a thousand times worse than before. Lena's warmth disappeared, and she awoke facedown on the medical bed on the jet's wall.
Back to the nightmare. Back to the worst of them, in a world burned to ashes; by her fault.
She buried her face in the hard, dark upholstery, and locked her jaw, trying to lessen the sensation of shrapnel threatening to cut her heart inside out. Heavy shoulders, and arms... her fingers didn't move, nor her wrists, but there was some mobility on the elbows, and the simple movement made her howl in pain, jerking her upper back roughly.
"Calm down, don't move!" Lena jumped, standing beside the bed. Holding her by the hip so she doesn't fall to the ground. "Calm down, your arms are hurt, don't move or you'll mess everything."
"The nightmare! KRUGGER, WHERE SHE?!" Another roar took her mouth, along with all the adrenaline to fight. God in heaven, what fucking hell, in these conditions, would Lena lose.
No, no way, wouldn't lose her to the nightmare, ever!
NEVER!
She would protect her, even if it took her life, but she wouldn't let take Lena's life.
The roof's hull crackled like thunder. Her muscles tensed, but whoever said the body could, everything ached, whining for mercy. Lena tried to keep her on the bed.
"It's okay, please don't do that, you're not supposed to get up!" She yelled at her, but hearing footsteps behind the door, threw her panic to the celling. When the door opened, something worse than the nightmare sprang out of it. She wore an open red jumpsuit knotted at the waist, matching boots, a blue tank top, and blonde as the super herself.
"WHERE?! I KILL THE COCKROACH!!!" screamed behind her glasses, with a cylinder of helium gas on her back, ready to exterminate the plague. "Hey, what happened? I heard screams."
"You call her?" Questioned the super, incredulous and undeniably angry. "What is she doing here?"
"I didn't call anyone." Snorted the brunette, before the other blonde opened her mouth.
"God in heaven, you know Lena?" said her voice drenched in sarcasm.
LENA?! What is this intimacy?!
"What you doing here?!" Supergirl growled, and if it weren't for Luthor there, she would have already skinned the red glasses.
"For starters, you're welcome to carry you. And if you knew Lena, you'd know she's too stubborn to ask for any help. Nobody called me hothead. I came on my free will to get lost in the middle of a hurricane storm. Excuse me now, but I have a jet full of finger marks to fix." she tossed the cylinder over her back, straightened her glasses, and disappeared through the door.
"Could you stop picking on her? She carried you here. And she came because she was worried..."
"Worried with you?" she growled, cutting off the brunette's speech.
"It makes a difference? The jet was damaged in the storm, nor the landing gear opened. Lucky she found us. Supercorp's best pilot and chief mechanic." The commander locked her scream behind her teeth and aimed at the ground. She sucked in a breath, then spoke calmly and languidly again. "Not only was the jet almost destroyed. Your tendons snapped, so you can't move your arms. It will recover, but it cannot move until there; please listen to me, and rest. You have to take care of yourself, Supergirl." said with a strange sadness at the end of her voice, just before leaving the small cabin.
Supergirl turned her face away, regretting the rough voice she'd let on. But what other response could she give? She regretted feeling what she fell, what she shouldn't, what she had wanted to give up for so long, and yet persisted, like the glowing ember, which continues to burn, even when the flame has gone out.

Commander Luthor POV
The commander passed the door of the medical cabin and planted her feet the first thirty centimeters after closing the same. Her knees stiffened, unable to take another step without collapsing. It wasn't her nightmare taking her strength, that she could manage, longer than she would admit, but Supergirl had always charged more fiber than breakfast cereal to digest.
Her body slumped forward, finding the warmth of an old friendship.
"Hey, got it, you need some sleep Lena." Anri whispered in her ear.
Damn, why did she have to be so stubborn? Why did she have to be so good at dragging her strength, her wits, her... So good at doing this, holding what her chest couldn't bear.
Luthor closed her eyes, wrapping her arms around the warm body, letting that heat pass through her tired bones. She missed it, a longing that could devour her icy heart and purge the boulder surrounding him. Anri circled her arms over her shoulders, deepening the contact as she allowed herself to be the brunette's support.
"I will not tell you to go back inside. I also know that it's no use offering the stretcher in my jet. So, even if it's in one armchair here, but get some sleep, please. I've been repairing the antenna board for over six hours. That's how long you've been with her. She will get better, I promise; So now, get some sleep, Lena." Whispered the blonde, entwined with her.
"Stay with her, don't leave her alone." Said with a voice slurred from sleep. And she hardly noticed her last steps to the armchair, and how sorry she was to let go of her. That sensation she provoked, leading to a rosy memory, warm in her arms, that she had not seen for a long time. Smell of donuts, coffee and hugs. Taste of smiles, bad jokes, and kisses; from her.
"I miss you..." Lena muttered into Anri's shoulders, before giving in to the sleep of exhaustion. "I missed you..."
