In the dark side - part 4

Hey Supers, here's the song that I like for this chapter: Rise the midnight girl, from Gunship:

Commander Luthor POV

"WHAT A FUCKING JOKE IS THIS, ALEX?!" said the commander, taking control of the cognitive activities of the brunette's body.

"I look like a standup comedian, to make jokes of it? They detected them over Madagascar. We triangulated the position, and..."

"They are coming here?!" asked her sister, and the thought froze Luthor's spine. No happy ending in a meeting like this, not with the super so weak.

"If you coud keep your mouth shut, and let me finish, I tell where they go. The triangulation shows that their destination is the coast of South Africa," finished the redhead.

"How they are here?" Supergirl asked the wrong question.

"It doesn't matter. The question is, what they are going to do here?" The commander, always colder-blooded than a lizard, able to lock herself in an ice dome for the world. But that was the impression on the outside. Inside, her heart constricted, crushed by the oppressive walls of a garbage truck. Every time she looked at Supergirl, and the possibility of something so terrible happens. "Any scan from the last 24 hours? They can't have come out of nowhere."

"There were at least five peaks of electromagnetic ripple, but we couldn't trace the origin. How, or who, brought a company from other universes." Explained the redhead, talking to someone beside her in the fort. "Yes, we have it. Jena is all yours. We have the line from Mustafar fort." said Alex, moving aside.

Luthor looked at the screen with a raised eyebrow and a wan smile, knowing well the antics of a redhead in the pilot's seat in which he sat.

"Don't look at me with that face, commander. I saw the lipstick mark, and the fourth seat is right there, and I'm not saying anything," said through gritted teeth, pinching a certain recording of that jet's security cameras and the... super. "Besides, Jena our best at hacking broadcast signals."

"Got it. We'll see all the four. And what story this fourth chair is? I thought only us had used the jet." asked Jena, with only part of her hair in the video. The commander changed color, and she could swear the super wasn't much different.

Four screens with loading bar opened. And once completed, they gave the four supers eye view over the clouds of the Cape of Good Hope. They saw the most beautiful dark sky full of clouds. Three were decreasing in altitude, the other went up. Supergirl was the eyes that went alone. From the other three one stayed behind, Daughter Red watched Power and Over go alone into the clouds.

But what the hell were they doing?

Like a jump scare in a cheap horror movie, the nightmare appeared in Power's vision, but quickly something happened between the pompous clouds, and from there the demon came out immobilized, placed horizontally, with Over holding her arm in the rear naked choke, and the legs pulled by Power in a tug of war.

From above, Supergirl's vision turned to the ocean, fists in front, in free fall towards the belly of the demon of the light.

"SHE IS GOING TO ESCAPE, YOU ARE HOLDING TOO SLIGHT, TIGHT IT UP, OR SHE'S GOING TO MAKE A DRILL!!!" The blonde despaired, jumping from the chair beside the commander.

And in a single violent movement, Krugger spun her body, freeing herself, and hurling Power at Supergirl. The young woman's screen turned completely red as she crossed the other. Over looked into the nightmare eyes and shot out the heat vision. Krugger imitated her before the air tensed and a tornado erupted around her, but before she could finish the attack, she took a full punch from Red Daughter.

The commander's emergency call-beep sounded beside Alex, and she took aim in the commander's eyes.

"Not a word about us." ordered the brunette, and the redhead nodded. No one should know your Supergirl outside the fort's walls.

The transmission ended, and Luthor sprawled in her seat, resting face in one hand. This was a nightmare. All the mess of her absence at the Warhammer. The council that would love to rip her out of its position and dissolve the corporation, dividing it among the remaining world powers. Each would close in its bunker and leave everything else to the glowing apocalypse of the demon of the light. And they would dissect Supergirl to study a stupid way to pass on her powers.

The last barrier was her, the Luthor commander. Fighting on all possible fronts, including:

"Let's go. They have zero experience with Krugger," said the blonde. Was this woman crazy, or did some bolt fall out of her head while having sex? So many screws got lost in six years.

No, she couldn't let her go, couldn't sign her death warrant like that.

"There's no way, even if I take you there, you can't fight." Replied the commander, her heart struggling inside that metal box, thirsty to hold the super against her chest and disappear from the cruel world, one she didn't have to fight. "You are in no condition."

"You won't help me then?"

Why this question? For what? As if they were enemies.

With me or against me. The sentence punched her heart.

"Supergirl, you can't..." Without her permission, she squeaked out a yelp at the end, but kept the hard, stony expression outward, when inside everything was shaking in an earthquake.

"I will go there, with or without you." The blonde got to her feet and headed for the ramp.

As enemies, between the cross, the sword, and a slip.

Supergirl POV

Have you ever had a stupid idea? It was what the super mind repeated every minute of the trip. Sitting in the copilot's seat, pretending to sleep. She needed to rest. Her body was a wreck, but it was impossible to catch the elusive sleep, with her heart and breath threatening to jump without a parachute, and without being able to fly. Since the only thing she wanted to cling on was less than three feet to the right.

She glanced sideways at the brunette. The commander kept her eyes steady on the distant sea horizon, while the apparatus danced to her touch on the machine. The stick firmly between her fingers, in a stiff posture that would certainly give her back pain. So focused, with that beautiful braid over her shoulder. So distant, serious, cold...

A total contrast to the radiant Lena she knew. Vivid, full of light and strength. A huge heart capable of carrying the world on its back, almost as much as herself, the super that, with all her inhuman strength, was no match for those eyes.

Silence roared between them, ripping through her chest at the fresh memory of the beach.

"Much long till we get there?" asked her, with little interest in the answer. Who wants to know the time of their own death?

"I don't fly that well, but if we continue without problems, we arrive in about four or five hours." Answered the brunette, without even looking back.

"Didn't you learn anything in the three months at Jaw?" said with a little angry dropping her mouth. The jet shook.

"Alex took classes. I didn't go there to learn to fly." replied Luthor, evidently angry too, with her eyes glued to the clouds.

"I see. I'm gonna put something on." Said, went fast to the back of the cabin, pulling the drawers out of the compartments on the walls, before she lost the ability to hold the roar trapped in her throat. But unable to guide her own eyes, which assaulted the back of the amateur pilot. And though a tiny tail of anger locked her jaw, she couldn't help but crave that look. And for a few seconds, she found herself waiting for it, hoping that in the end, even though it was that ending now, they could look at each other one last time, as they always had years ago; before the flight to certain death.

Among the boxes she found a blue uniform, similar to her first one, except for the pants, she would never fly in a miniskirt again, I mean, she would wear one if she went to... RAO RIPOUT THAT DAMN BRAIN FROM ME!!! She growled inside. And she donned the costume before more memories invaded her, and once again craved that look on hers. She forced herself to aim the ground, and her ability to let go from it, but, maybe the commander was right. Every muscle in her screamed as she gave a slight upward thrust. Something climbed her nose, just like when she fled.

She turned her head toward the ceiling to prevent the leak and braced herself against the wall, before her legs gave out in a tumble. She put her hands over her face, trying to free herself from the grip of the inevitable feeling of anguish brushing her throat. When she heard the click of the belt, and hurried footsteps, until a pair of warm hands took her from the cold floor. Resting your head against that chest.

"You're not okay, you can't go." exasperated said the brunette.

"Why?" questioned what was the difference to the world, a worthless hero alive or dead?

"Because..." Those eyes darkened, filled with unexplained anguish. "You are a very important article for Supercorp, we can't lose you."

Again, it wasn't the question, but was the answer she got.

"What's the difference if I go, Lena?" That question seemed like a bullet, because the commander opened eyes wide in her direction, as if they were both shot through. "Tell me, what I, what we..." she sighed, going to her, with the smell of rain invading her.

Alarms went off, all instruments screamed, flashing, and the jet banked downward. The brunette ran to the pilot's seat, pulling the stick, but the sudden drop didn't budge. Which made the super overlap the commander's hands, and together they pulled the aircraft's nose back to the horizon.

"What was that?!" The brunette pulled levers and pressed buttons, trying to find out what the hell had caused the outbreak in the appliances.

Ahead of the jet, the South America's coast, the distant sun painted with monstrous storm clouds. As if the night devoured the day. The alarms didn't go away. Something was way wrong. Apprehensively, she grabbed Luthor's chair, belting it, attentive to the treacherous horizon, with a scent that brought up a memory.

NO, NOT NOW! She roared in her mind.

"Lena," called, just before a gust of air knocked the jet to the side. And from there they saw the wild sea turning like a drain, and from the sky the arm of a hurricane descending. "Krugger." She growled.

Supergirl ran to the back of the aircraft, opening part of the ramp just enough to go out, ignoring the commander's protests.

The super felt her heart beating, preparing her for war. Floating, she took aim at the unusual storm ahead, thunder roaring, lightning dancing with the raging wind taking shape in whirls. It wasn't an ordinary storm, nor an ordinary hurricane.

Drops of water hit her chest, trickled down her face, dripping from her fists. The cloak, though heavy with rain, moved wildly in the violent wind. Tornado arms descended from the skies to meet the sea, and in a flash she saw the demon disappear behind a wind wheel. She flew to the fight, but a tornado engulfed her, throwing Supergirl across but with no sign of Krugger. Her hair plastered to her face, her head focused on everything but what she should focus.

Thinking about, her, and not about the duty.

She closed her eyes, letting the adrenaline rush do its work. Allowing as night seemed to swallow up the day, she let the fury of a thousand storms fill her heart, and pump lightning and thunder to her muscles. All the combats she had as a collection to be against the enemy.

There!

Caught her sight, but as soon as she reached there, she's gone.

FUCK, FUCK, A THOUSAND TIMES FUCK!!!

Heart ready for war, but her body didn't, couldn't fly that fast. And something red climbed her nose, mingling with the rain on her face. Making her stagger in the air.

NO, NOT NOW, NOW SHE HAD TO BE STRONG, NOW....

She wiped the blood away with the back of her hand.

That damn water in her eyes.

And that night.

NO! FIGHT, KILL, ONLY THAT MATTER NOW!

But from the far reaches of that storm, she heard the familiar thud of the sonic punch. The echo went far, and in contact with people, it caused a horrible death. Anyone inside its range could suffer from a bleeding death. But a desperation took her internal struggle like a great whale jumping to swallow an entire shoal, nothing and no one could erase from her mind what she felt, realizing how close they were to the focus of the powerful attacks, how close Lena was. It would take just two seconds for the mess from the African coast to migrate to the South American coast.

In a second, her arms were filled with that little girl, fading out because of her.

And when she saw the jet being taken over by one of the tornado arms, her heart plummeted to the bottom of the hungry whale. Supergirl flitted to the aircraft. Her fingers dug into the metal to pull it from the wind wheel, but the movement only tore off a twisted metal sheet.

Despair was nothing for what was going on, nor was that storm greater than the chaos inside the super. She flew under the metal bird, locking her hands and forcing it against her back. More crimson dropped from her nose.

SHIT!!!

Lena. Her mind called, but not only, as the image of the brunette in the rain invaded her. The sneaky memory of that rainy night...

"Supergirl!" called the commander, coming out on the ramp.

"Get back inside now!!! Inside you have some protection!" begged the super, but the sight of her in the rain only sparked more memory of her. "PLEASE LENA!!! I WILL GET YOU OUT OF HERE, I WILL SAVE YOU, I PROMISE, BUT GET BACK IN!!!"

As if the commander was going to take orders from her. Supergirl pushed her and closed the ramp by force. Returning to the jet's belly, she forced it with her back, her fingers buried in the monstrosity, trying to take it off the course of the tornado.

She would make it, she would save her.

Her arms thundered in pain as more red dropped from her nose, and suddenly it burst from her mouth. The nightmare mark throbbed, like dogs biting her belly and pulling in all directions. The force required for the maneuver was much greater, as she had to balance the grip with the thrust of the back, otherwise it would only break in half, and she needed the hull in order to guard the commander's eardrums.

Thinking of that little girl fainting, and her face painted in crimson, made her scream, and scream desperately, furious. Wouldn't allow that end for her, no, but unfortunately her brain went faster and gave her the gift by putting Lena in the little girl's place, fading away in her arms, with red tears, by her fault.

"NOOOOOO!!!" roared, straining her arms further, hearing the metal creak and deform from the wrong pressure. She drew back, and again pressed slowly, even though it made her vomit up all the blood she had. She would do right, she would save her.

Her bulging veins throbbed, maddened with exertion, and even the rain began to hurt.

The sneaky memory of that rainy night assailed her as crimson left her lips. The rain in the eyes confused her, while the outsized effort drained her mind, and her uninvited feelings torn her heart apart.

Lena's bloodied face flashed, switched to her smile, and her hair plastered to her wet face.

Supergirl roared, pushing the jet away from the danger. Her arms thundered, every muscle consumed in agony. The storm subsided, the pain slowly ebbed, and the vision blurred. No longer able to distinguish memory from the present. From when rained in National City, and they didn't have an umbrella. The sneaky memory of that night took her, when for the first time; they said:

"I LOVE YOU"
