Impenetrable Armor - Part 3

Alex POV

Cold, hard, a pain in the ass. Let's just say her sister wasn't the only one to bury her sense of humor. It wasn't enough to be the bossy boss before. Now she was the dictator of the pizza's edge. Go to hell Lena, come on!

But deep down, Alex knew, perhaps the only one to know. From the greatest tragedy six years ago, and it wasn't Krugger, it wasn't the disasters that followed.

It was a night just before the pale demon came out. In Luthor's room.

"So, what do I need to see, that you had to open your mouth to talk about Anri?" asked the commander behind her. Already knowing the laboratory trip, and the Jaw fort commander, were pure bullshit, just to get rid of the blonde, who mustn't see what they were going to see.

"If I said that we would toast a bullfighter with her wearing the cape, she would come. I had to get rid of her. She's already under too much stress to put up with this one, too. And so are you, but you're the commander. You need to see even if you don't like it. Mara found it last night. In the north wing." She answered.

The commander's mouth curved downward.

"Better be good," she mumbled.

"Is this on account of Anri, or because I interrupted you two in the bedroom?" The redhead had fun at the end of the sentence. And if Luthor was just blushing, now she could camouflage herself among tomatoes.

"General, please. Let's maintain professionalism here."

"Professionalism, after that fire extinguisher?" she aimed for her eyes. But the brunette changed the conversation and stopped in the middle of the hallway.

"Look Alex, please, let's not talk about it." Asked, touching her shoulder and aiming at the ground.

The redhead reluctantly gave in. It wouldn't work to pull back the past, but as a sister and sister-in-law...

Holy shit, these two.

Alex turned on a flashlight and headed through the dark corridors of abandoned labs.

When they reached the spiral staircase, the commander hesitated, as if she didn't want to go, afraid.

"Are you sure it's this way?"

"Oh, come on, Lena, everyone knows Vodikello's shit is hidden behind the fourth floor door. The rest is on the flooded floor." The brunette sighed with relief. "And that you named the dog after my sister. I didn't say a word. Of people pissed off at you two, have already me."

A little longer and they arrived at the correct accommodation.

And the commander's eyes sparked at the sight of that makeshift altar. An office table with a bowl in the middle. Melted candles, a dagger, what else was missing?

But one item made both the general and the commander choke.

There was a piece of the Supergirl cape that hadn't been there the night before. Embroidered on it the winged omega, the devil's coat of arms.

The furious brunette kicked the altar, and Alex tried to hold her back. Not a good idea to know they were discovered.

"Calm down commander!" Asked Alex, holding Luthor from behind.

"Calm down, I'll be when I blow those bastards' brains out! Who do they think they are, GOD?! How can they want her to die if she's the one defending their asses!!!" There was no conversation, not now.

Even it wasn't smart to destroy everything, the redhead couldn't deny how pissed off she was about it, either. It was her sister that these idlers wanted to kill for a nonsense belief. Stupid is the one who does stupidity, ranking to bite the human species in its entirety.

Alex released Luthor once she let go of her aggression. The two repositioned the altar, but burned the cover piece with the omega.

"How did they get in here? Clandestines?" Asked the commander.

"We would notice. They must have infiltrated it another way." The general thought well about the next words. "It is difficult to say what each one wears under the uniform, inside the heart. They can wear the agency emblem. It means nothing. That's the explanation I have. They didn't come from outside, they were born inside." The redhead pointed to the middle of the commander's chest, who widened her eyes back.

A shot came from the door, and the brunette pulled it out and fired the pistol. The enemy fell face down into the room.

"Blastro," said Alex. "The first captain."

"Fall all of them, save us, god of the end, purge evil from the whole earth, knight of the heavens, of the apocalypse..." He prayed, "Death, death to all of them, death to the Supergirl."

His prayer ended with another shot from the commander's gun. The general looked a little astonished, but there wasn't much more to be done. He didn't hesitate to shoot her back. And didn't look like he regretted anything.

Was he the only Rainer in the fort?

Would be more?

How to know?

As before, what each person wears on their chest is one thing. Now inside, it's a mystery. Even the cold shooter tried, and she couldn't hold the water in her eyes after what she had done. And the general, she had never suspected the first captain, a man who vibrated with every Supergirl's punch on Krugger.

Alex hugged Luthor, who was about to fall apart because of the act, but a whisper whistled in the background. Getting closer and closer, the two drew their guns, and back to back, pointed to each side of the corridor.

And a bitterly familiar voice leapt into the air.

Krugger.

"Listen and listen well." Said calmly. "Because this is my ultimatum to everyone. Abandon Supergirl, she must be left alone. Anyone who refuses and insists on being on her side will be destroyed. That's my warning, heed it, and live a little longer, or suffer the consequences."

The two women dropped to their knees in a cold sweat, a ringing in their ear, and their chests strange. As if the voice hadn't come from outside into her ears, but from inside her racing heart. They looked at each other and, saying a word, agreed on what to do. The two went after Supergirl.

Had Krugger been there, had she discovered the location of the fort?

It was a real mess, all the agents back and forth, guns drawn, and with the same symptoms as the two women, cold sweat, and the feeling of invasion. The lab was empty, only the IV bag left behind.

"Mara must have gone back to the room with her." Said the commander.

"Mara? Captain Mara, do you copy?" No response. "All bridge agents, at their posts, I want a sweep of the entire fort and the surface now!!!" she yelled into her wrist communicator.

Truth be told, it's hard to say what's in each one's heart.
